[Q]ICS ROM clarification - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Now am using 2.3.7 version and kernal 2.6.32.9-gb in my defy,
Am planing to install ICS 4.0.3.What kernal should download?
Becoz i already tried Mar 3 build but its stucked many times and getting restarted again so pls tel the correct methods and kernal.GApps.
Can any one help me?

If you have gingerbread kernel you need to install a Defy+ build. If you have a normal defy, I think you need to install batery fix as well. I'll try to find it. Defy+ builds work well with red lense defys, but I don't think camera works for green lense users.

Thanks...so shall I install defy + build...and kernal link available separately....what is the use of those kernal...how. and wat should be install

You already have a kernel. Or else you wouldn't be able to use the phone. You've already told me that you have a gingerbread kernel. So don't bother flashing a new one.
Gapps is on first page for main CM9 thread. Battery fix is somewhere in the thread :-/ Look around page 300

CM9 Kernel gives bootloader error. It's for froyo kernel users only (as far as i've understood)
DON'T flash it! It will soft brick your phone!

I hope all doubts over
CM9 builds, gapps & battery fix is enough to my phone to run ICS.
Have to flash above three things?
Am i right?

Yup, that should be it.

If you mean anything else to install, then no. Does charging work?

That is true. I have a Defy+ and I installed the CM9 kernel. It soft bricked my phone and I had to do a SBF flash, root CWM recovery and all things all over!! Flash the CM9 built for Defy+ by Quarx. It does restarts and freezes ocassionally but is okay otherwise for a beta version!!

Which lens red/green and which build you flashed quarx/eppy? For green use eppy froyo builds, for red you can use defy/defy+ builds with appropriate kernels.
Did you try wiping cache of camera app?

1. Well use GB Kernel (but as I know, there was issues with proximity. I'all need to confirm that)
2. Kernel first
3. JB. Faster than CM7.

Battery fix for defy red lense with kernel v2.6.32.9-ge281b6e

I am on the latest cm10 nightly (for defy+) and I am having a problem with battery - typical 1%+red led flashing+no charging. I have serached about 20 threads, but I am still not able to find a solution - all the battery fixes, procedures I have found yet don't work for me. (official cm10 thread, older fixes, etc). Since I accidently flashed sbf with bl7 version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595013), flashing kernels shown in official CM10 thread is impossible.
I have made my own from stock Rom DFP-231.
Try this one it should work for you too (only for defy+ battery 1700mAh).
For me is working in every rom i have tried (CM7,CM9 CM10, MS2GINGER ......).

Well try to make your own.
Extract the too files from your stock Rom(defy rom not defy+ rom) replace them in the zip provided by me then sign again with apksign or other app. And tada you have your own battery fix.

Defy (red lense) kernel?

I installed Epsylon3's "[ICS] CM9.1 Android 4.0.4 for the Defy - now with 2ndboot kernels" and i was wondering what kernel should i install:
kernel-froyo-222-179-4-signed.zip or kernel-gb-234-451-134-signed.zip?
And another problem: after installing the ICS my battery drains very quickly. What shall i do? Install the "ICS Defy Red Lense Battery fix"?
Try the battery fix. The 2nd boot kernel will be fine otherwise I'd use the gingerbread or defy green froyo kernel.

i will try the fix. what kernel do you have? i'd like to install the GB version, but i don't want to have problems. i read a lot on the forum and i understood that the GB is compatible with my Defy (red lens), but what are the advantages? will it work better?
I'm using GB kernel from fixed sbf and using CM7 (maniac) and it seems a little smoother than froyo kernel. *green soc defy*
Defy red lense is basically a defy+ with a 800MHz clock speed and a smaller battery. The RL defy can use the camera on stock gb builds.
