I've had a Galaxy S but sold that for a BB for the keyboard! Now I just wanted something to browse the web/play some games/watch some movies.
I've been looking at tablets for a while, I refuse to get anything Apple so theres that one gone!
Now I know MWC is around the corner and I know Samsung are supposedly releasing the SAMOLED/Dual core model of the Tab (hence the price cuts in my eyes).
I just wanted to know, if you had to get a tablet now, would you get the same one? I've always though 7" is too small, but it means its great for being portable.
Anyway just want to hear your thoughts
Love my Tab and its worth every penny. Defo get another one as well.. Tesco sell them for around £360 Great work on some new roms now as well. Gingerbread will be ported very soon

+1 to this. I bought my Tab in early Decemver last year and I've loved every minute of it and it's a great bargin now with the UK price coming down to £360. I guess you have to ask yourself what you want a Tab for, if you want the very latest wizz bang tech, then wait for teh GT2 or the new Motorola on Gingerbread, but if you want a fantastic Tab at a great price thats got lots of development happening for, buy the current GT!
Not going to lie, I kicked myself a bit for buying the Tab. It's... good enough, I guess, but if nobody tries to port Honeycomb to it I'll be slashing my wrists. With my Tab. Which, seeing as it's a blunt thing, may take some work, but I'll get there.
I guess I should wait and see if Honeycomb makes it then. Whats the developers like for the Tab? Any chance they could do the work? At £360, I'd be willing to pay £20-30 for a stable port!
They will show the GT2 in February. But then it will probably take a bit of time before you can actually buy it, say April with shops like eXpansys. And then the typical carriers will take even more time before having them, say May or June (Not even talking about the US where it will take ages as usual)
So yeah if you don't mind waiting for the early summer then don't buy the Tab. Otherwise if you can't wait that long just jump and get one !
I just bought it yesterday, I was going to wait motorolla xoom tablet, but in my country australia maybe it'll be here next year sometimes.
So far I am happy with it.
No need to slit your wrists , Gingerbread is in Beta for the tab right now. So much development going on at the minute Honeycomb will come eventually one way or another , with over 2 million tabs out there already its bound to happen
We hope. Unless CyanogenMOD go some for supporting tablets we're gonna be stuck on whatever Sammy leave us with
Well I've gone a bought one with the Keyboard dock, case and TV-out.
Looking forward to it now! Been reading through the Dev forums and development seems good. Looks like we have a chance of MeeGo and Gingerbread so I can't wait for it to come!
I bought the T-Mobile Tab a few weeks ago and I love it. I've flahsed a number of different roms and each new one seems to make it a better device. Watching movies and reading ebooks on it is no problem for me. Some people think it's a bit small for that kind of use, but it's just a matter of personal likes and dislikes.
I like the 7 inch size for the ease of mobility. Fits in a jacket pocket nicely.
My wife has an iPad and while it's a great device in it's own right, it's a little too big for my taste. Besides that, unless you jailbreak it, the iPad is limited to what Apple feeds you as far as apps are concerned.
The GT2 will probably blow everything else out of the water, but so will the GT3, GT4....you get the idea.
I bought a Tab in early november and I wouldn't buy one now. Its been a great device but the price 2nd hand is falling quite quickly. I've seen a couple go on ebay for £250 or less, one even went for £175! But the real reason I wouldn't buy it is because tablets weren't a surefire investment so they didn't put everything they could into it 1st time around. Now tablets are the in thing they are sensibly coming out rather quickly with the 2nd gen that will probably last a bit longer. I know that "if you continue to wait you'll never buy anything" but the jump to dual core and a tablet friendly OS is worth waiting for as come MWC which is just 2 weeks from now you will see how far the "real" 1st gen of tablets is going to go
I bought the Verizon Tab a few weeks ago and it works just fine exactly as it is. The browser works well, I can watch baseball and hockey games streamed out with Flash, Slingplayer works fine, the email app works well with my Exchange server and the Verizon data is MUCH faster than it was with a laptop and Verizon modem I had a year or so ago. The iPad is better than the Tab at a handful of things and the Tab is better than the iPad at a handful of things. More important is that that Tab fits in a pocket of most of my pants and therefore it goes out with me while the iPad continues to sit at home to do nothing. The best tablet is the one you have with you!
I have to agree with most people in this forum. The tab is great! and worth every penny. I bought it about a weak ago and here is how I convinced myself waiting isn't necessarily going to really matter.
A. Galaxy Tab will browse the web (and so will every subsequent device)
B. Galaxy Tab will stream and or play music (and so will every subsequent device)
C. Galaxy Tab will stream and or play video (and so will every subsequent device)
D. Galaxy Tab will support the essential apps that matter & allow me to live day to day more efficiently (and so will every subsequent device)
E. Galaxy Tab has a development community that will allow me to exercise my "'hacking" bug (and so will every other device)
-------------
F. Prediction: DEVS will not sleep until each and every one of Google's near term future mobile OS-es are ported over up until the device is just completely obsolete. (ie gingerbread, honeycomb)
G. Even if the latest and greatest Tab will come out in a few months it will be priced at a premium. ($750.00 +)
So bottom line the basic functionality will be the same. Any functionality introduced beyond what in my mind the Tab is actually meant for is just excess and will come at a premium (near term). For me any functions outside the realm of the Tab are ran on my PC or Laptop
I paid $549.00 from AT&T & don't regret the purchase.
Just my two cents.
I bought one last week after selling my iPad and Advent Vega.
The rational behind buying it was similar to other people in this thread, HTC will soon launch their flyer with very similar specs so the hardware is not outdated, it will take until next christmas for the dust to settle around the true next gen tablets. Some will get dev support others probably not so much (just think how long it took for the motorola milestone to get custom roms!)
With the Galaxy Tab you get a device which is only a few months old thats just starting to gather momentum in the dev scene.
The price has dropped considetably in the U.K. so it made sense for me to get this device which will no doubt get gingerbread one way or another making it very similar to the flyer in terms of spec and features (I'm not a sense fan so wont miss it). I expect the flyer will initially cost more than the tab.
In short get one enjoy it and wait to see which of the next gen tablets gets support from cyan and co
One other thing...even if the updates and support aren't official, look at how many "old" Android devices are still being used every day and, by and large, they can still run the latest and greatest software. As far as I've read the G1 is capable of running Slingplayer which means it's capable of running the relatively recent OS that Slingplayer requires. Therefore, I wouldn't be too worried about the system becoming stale or outdated.
And here goes the debate: "Which would be your logical replacement for your Xperia X10"!
Of course we all know that we have a phone that was released some time ago, and in technological standards it is an "oldie but Goldie". I am thinking I had a fair deal with my X10, which is why I will probably use it for quite some time until my tech-bug hits the necessity of the newest available (and cheap) advances in smartphones. This is where all the ppl here which not only have one, but 2 or more smartphones, come in. You obvious better knowledge of the latest and greatest gives my room to confide in your opinion, and taking in consideration that the region I am at, has only recently been taking in the possibility of getting 4G through Claro, a latin provider of such technologies, maybe we can still settle for the sluggish 3.5G (although I admit it must be a thrill to have 100Mbit/s or even 1Gbit/s soaring on my handset), as long as what I have in hand is a Gargantuan of the Smartphone arena.
Things I would take in account:
Screen size: I like to scroll through music on my X10, which is fun, especially when it helps you with that unknown tune that you never studied, but since you sightread, might give you all you need to know before showtime. 3.7+ screens with the highest resolutions possible
Processing speed: THE MUST, the faster the merrier!
Software Support: Although that is settled with XDA (and other places that have great devs, sadly not working together with xda in some cases), the latest updates are magnificent to have
Connectivity: Because not only 4G (which in Panama might start being a bit expensive), but WIFI and BT, plus the connectables, you know!
Sturdiness: Yes, the X10 lacks it... today my mom let my x10 go to the ground... CONNECTED! I spent 2 hours trying to fix the microUSB to be able to charge, which finally happened... but some other models have Titanium/Vibranium/Adamantium/WillNotBreakium/Lastforeverium covering plus a protective 7-point Barrier Chakra enchantment and Harry Potter type seals, plus Legolas, Aragorn and Gandalf protecting it... what I mean is, Si vis pacem, parabellum (to seek peace, prepare for war), and maybe you are going to be super protective with your baby, but one can't be so sure!
Last but not least
Price: Hey, technology is getting cheaper every day, not saying flea-market prices, but at least affordable enough when buying without a data/call plan, since I work independently, is not going to put a hole in my economy, plus it will last a long time before getting outdated... yeah, too much to ask, but I'm putting it out there for analysis
Bring in your opinions and advices! All are welcome!
Is this really the right place for this discussion? if it's about replacing the X10, it's not about the X10.
I am getting a Nokia N9.
In the Android world, I'd get a Galaxy S II.

Yikes... is there a place for a post like GENERAL ANDROID PHONE? If so, I don't mind if my thread is put in the right place; just thought since I speak of the X10 as my CURRENT main phone, I was wondering the people's opinion on which would be the best replacement for it, me being a current happy user, only wanting to upgrade to something that would be mostly like it, only just... well... newer?
you forgot hdmi port
i think HTC Sensation 4G is probably best of wait for Sony's Dual core phone !! probably my next from ny 1 of those !!! :-D
well, i will probably get next Nexus phone ( if it's quadcore ) or Samsung galaxy 3
Presume Iphone 5 (4s), my contract with t-mobile ends in December, so I assume i'll be offered iphone
Already replaced mine with a sensation, thnx to SE for their broken Yang connectors. My usb broke 5 times till now
VIPER
I love Galaxy S2
IMO i'm not going to change the x10 until it dies. it provides me all the functionality i need from a phone (mind that, phone) for now. it has it's role to play, and it has delivered its purpose.
i'm going to get a tegra 3 tablet be it android/windows 8 for other demanding tasks and portable gaming. i can get all my connectivity from the phone, saving me the need for a 3G enabled tablet. saves a lot.
Samsung Galaxy S II, LG Optimus 3d.
Or just the SE Xperia X10, it is fabulous and lovely regardless of SE ****.
Samsung Galaxy S II but still loving Wolf's ROM so yeah gonna take a while before I change
he said a cheaper phone... the last time i checked it, the galaxy s 2 was the most expensive one...
The cheapest smartphone plan here in Canada is $50/month =(. Looks like imma be stuck with my X10 for a while.
Probably a Google phone so I would always get updates or the xperia arc of course. No one makes phones like Sony with all the social entertainment

I'd say dual-core is the bare minimum to settle for these days. Dual-core phones are still the minority, but they really are the way of the future, and it's immediately noticeable on system performance when you start having multiple things going at once.

As great as XDA is (it's been absolutely the saving grace for the X10), I'd say company history of timely updates is very important. That knocks anything from SE out for the running for me (their promises with their newer phones are good, but I'd take the wait-and-see approach before giving considering them after the mess they made of updating the X10).

Not sure what qualifies as affordable in Panama, but by your requirements you couldn't even buy a new X10 here in Canada for a "affordable" price without signing a new contract (it's $499.99 to buy one outright).
With all that said, I just got the HTC EVO 3D on Monday. It satisfies all my requirements - dual-core, full multi-touch, ample (1GB) RAM, Gingerbread. Only cost $149.99, but that was with a 3 years contract renewal.
well i already have the HTC HD2, which runs android flawlessly. The only thing is it doesn't look/feel as nice as the X10.
If the xperia DUO appears to be real i am concidering it, i always loved the stability in SE software, even if updates takes a little longer some times and i really like the camera quality of the X10 and Arc.

samsung galaxy s2 by far...
nothing else at the moment can compare
I remember the day I got my Xperia Play months back and thinking how many bugs and issues it had, it was a great device let down by buggy SE software.
Fast forward a few months to the latest SE update and the change is like night and day, it really is like using a new device!, fast, snappy, more features, fast booting, I really am happy with the support SE has been putting into the Play post launch.
Add to this the recent surge in Android Development here at XDA with CM7, DoomKernal, PSXperia, Overclocking, Recovery, Bootloader unlocking etc and it really is looking good for us Play owners!
And the games/Development support?
Since E3 and Gamesconn the Play has been going from strength to strength, lots of great new games from major developers such as Minecraft, Dead Space, Reckless Getaway, Need For Speed, Fifa and lots more still planned.
A few months ago the future wasn't looking that good for the Play, this has all changed thanks to the continued SE support, development support and the modding/hacking scene on XDA! I was very close to selling my device but now I honestly feel like this is the best phone out there specially for gaming, I will be keeping it well into next year now!
Everyone deserves a pat on the back for making the Play a success against all odds! lets make a toast!
What do you think?
I was skeptical about SE's ability to properly support their handsets due to the bad stories from 2010 but it really seems that they want to change their behavior now in 2011.
I bought my Xperia Play yesterday, being confident after seeing the same improvements that you mentioned.
I never lost faith in the device

Given the terrible records of Sony's support (e-readers in particular, PSN scandal, and so on) I'm surprised about the good job they're doing with the Play. And yes, Sony Ericsson is a division of Sony, so I consider them one and the same.
Its a good device. But for that kind of price i did expect a FEW better feautures (5MP HD atleast...or a HDMI port for all carriers)BUt its ok..i guess i'll without since the only thing i need is PSOne GAMES on a PORTABLE DEVICE DD
Which carriers have the HDMI out on Xperia Play...
Also USA totally got the best deal of the lot... Isn't it like $100 or $200 dollars on Verizon where is here in AU/NZ it is around 8 - 900 US.
I suppose we get the added bonus of:
-great customer service
-not being locked to any network
-not being on CDMA
-Updates on time
-Not having a branded phone
-Sony Ericsson actually answers our questions.
And I got my Xperia Play for free... So no complaints.

Its $99 with a 2 year contract on Verizon. Theres a couple little caveats one being that its still running 2.3.2 and Verizon is slow as crap to update. The other is they totally stripped the phone of SE's UI features and broke the facebook connectivity as well (remedied by downloading Fsync from Watto). So a lot of the cool stuff that it does besides gaming doesn't work and won't be available on Verizon unless you root it.
That said all the gaming features are there, and the games play perfect, so in the end its good enough and totally worth the price. The one thing about Verizon as well is it is by far the most reliable cell service in the US, so for the most basic feature that is most important, it always works.

I don't know about the US getting the best deal in my opinion, over here in the uk recent price drops let me pick up a xplay sim free for £260 from Expansys, personally I am willing to pay a bit more for being carrier free (plus at the moment no carrier over here are offering good contracts with the phone, ie. it actually works out cheaper to buy a sim free xplay and a sim only contract.).

I really like how the Verizon Play shipped without most of SE's UI. IMHO I think it makes it run faster and comes with less bloat than normal.
Now that we have root I have removed or frozen almost all of my unwanted processes and apps, leaving me with a close to vanilla version of Android with Xplay Launcher and store support.
If we are able to get a kernel to O/C CDMA stock, I would consider this the best "rom" out there for the Play

I agree; development on the Xperia Play is picking up, I didn't expect this phone to receive a lot of community/hacking attention because I thought it was supposed to target a very specific group of people, turns out I was wrong.
In Singapore now you can get the phone for free with a 2 year S$36 plan. That includes 12GB of data (never will you finish using). I bought it for $238 with plan 2 months ago *cries*

It probably does run faster but from what I hear the SE UI stuff actually doesn't sound bad. Plus theres new updates like xLoud and DLNA connectivity that we probably won't get. Just bothers me that I don't have a choice on it, if I didn't want choice I'd buy an iPhone .
I totally agree. When I first got the phone, just getting root access was a huge deal. Just a couple months later I have full fledged bootloader unlock, custom kernel, latest SE firmware and the choice of putting Cyanogenmod on there.
If Blagus manages to get sense working I'll pee myself
Definitely a great phone!

I paid 100 CAD for it with a contract. Rogers had it for $50 recently with a three year term. Best phone I've ever had, with the exception of my ultra reliable Nokia 6126. That phone was the bomb when it was still new.
Things just keep improving with the play. Very large contrast compared to my last SE phone years ago, which was a total piece of garbage and wouldn't even make calls properly brand new (I went through 3 replacements)

Don't be a pratt,
How is one of the most successful CEO's of recent times going to be forgotton even when he has gone? he will be remembered for many good things.
This isn't about android vs ios, put that to one side for a moment.
Hate him or love him he changed the whole mobile device market for the better, without ios/iphone there would not have been the huge shift in design and competition of smartphones, before the iphone the smartphone wasn't doing well, without ios/iphone there would be no android, no ios, no windows mobile 7, instead we would still be using our basic nokias and moto's!
You think back to 2007 before the iphone announcement, the range of "smartphones" out was a joke, I had a Nokia N95 which was considered one of the best and compared to todays devices it is a very basic smartphone.
Now think forward to six months after the release of the iphone, EVERY smartphone company totally shifted design to try and compete with the iphone, this is how it all started for the better, now look at today, we have amazing devices with a huge choice, Android devices are so smart and advanced, it's amazing to think about how those 4 years have made todays devices possible!
The same is happening with tablets.
But yeah, I have been following his condition on Neogaf and it seems like it could be anyday now

I decided to fund it earlier today and I haven't seen anything posted about it on here so I thought I would start a thread to get some more opinions on it.

I funded mine a couple of weeks ago. It's a nice looking watch, my only concern is that it did not get anywhere close to the funding of the pebble which might limit the amount of Apps that will get developed. Any thoughts?
You may be right about app development. That's one thing I didn't consider.
It does offer most everything I want in a smart watch and in my opinion it's the better looking of the ones that I have seen.
Which one did you place a order for? I put one in for the Curve.

I like them but I think I will wait as I reckon they will release one soon with the coloured e ink display like the Qualcomm Toq. I do like the idea of private calls though just wish they had used a coloured display that will give days before charging.
I ordered the Curve also, it looks more sleek than the others and you have to admit , at half the price of the newly released Galaxy Gear, it's worth it. The galaxy gear is very nice looking , does it all but with a charge that will only last 24 hr and a price tag of $300, I think the Hot watch will be more than a good purchase . I will definitely consider Apple's smart watch when it comes out. It will probably be the priciest of all the mainstream smart watches but hopefully it will last longer on a single charge and look great.Cant wait!! Should be interesting. Does anyone think this is just a fad or will smart watches be around for awhile. Smart phone display screens have been getting bigger, can we live with a smaller screen?
I originally funded the curve as well.
I reduced my pledge to no reward yesterday however.
I feel that the Qualcomm Toq is a better smartwatch, and will be getting that instead.
The color always-on Marisol display is superior to the black and white of the HOT. And the purported UI of the HOT looks primitive compared to the simple yet functional of the Toq's
And the private calling of the HOT feels more like a gimmick that a practical feature.
There appears to be better overall design thinking on the Toq; real practical features designed for real world use.
Wishing the HOT team the best of luck.

I think they are here to stay and will start catching on like wildfire over the next few years. Especially once the technology starts mature and we start seeing the flexible OLED screens make a appearance.
I don't see it ever completely replacing the smartphone phone, at least not in the near future. I think it will stay a device that merely compliments your smartphone.

This is my first Kickstarter funding and will be my first smartwatch. I'm getting the Edge. Being 8mm thick was the selling point for me. Most of the others are at least 20mm thick, which seems unwieldy. I hope the company pulls it off and the watch is what we want it to be.

Why would you say that the Hot watch is feature limited, it has more than the Pebble which has had huge success . Granted it is not a stand alone like Samsung which has its own disadvantages , and if you ask me, having a camera on your watch is just creepy !!

To me a smartwatch should be able it interact with your smart house, smart (insert appliance here) and various other host smart devices. Until it does it's a remote for your phone and not much else.

Where are you looking? I've been looking for months and none of the 2013 smartwatches are 20mm. I can say that if I was going for a feature limited device the Hot Watch does have a nice dress watch look to it.

You are right, I was way off about thickness. I was thinking of some of the ones that can make phone calls that are huge. Nevertheless, the Hot Watch is still the thinnest. Galaxy Gear is 11mm.

I did fund the Pebble on kickstarter and was one of the folks whose pebble got bricked after a firmware update.
Sure, they sent me a new one, and I gave that one to my boss.
I didn't consider the pebble a true smartwatch either. I have had lots of wearables through the years; Sony's LiveWatch, 5 Spot watches, 2 SonyEricsson Bluetooth watches.
The Toq is closer to being an all around smartwatch. Low power, daylight legible display, touchscreen, no gimmicks, and a phone companion.

Ok, IMO, if you are willing to pay $300 for a Toq, you might as well get the new Samsung. It is a stand alone smartwatch. It is said that Qualcomm is just putting its toe into smart watches to try to sell its reflective screen technology, which Ive read has been problematic. They are only introducing 10 000 units on the market whereas Samsung will be flooding the market with 500 000 units a much more serious player who plans on staying around for a while and will invest in their product. That's if you want to spend $300 for a smart watch. I believe that the Hot watches' nice style will be a wearable piece even after the smart watch fad is over, as per "them". Maybe " they " are right are right and it will be just a fad but no one can predict the future .

Now I've read the "stand alone" and "can make calls" about the Samsung in a ton of places. Has anybody seen anything official about this? You know, something like GSM/CDMA bands. I've been digging through every bit of info I can find (read- google search results page 20+) and have found nothing regarding GSM or CDMA support. That would be kind of key to be able to make calls and sync data on it's own.

IMO , I don't think it is so much of a smart watch issue as much as it is an App issue for the smart appliance people to put out to control their smart appliancets. We can control many appliances with our smart phones because the manufacturers have put out apps for them. When and if the smart watches get as popular as cell phones , then they will do what it takes to be compatible with their products, they will have to if they want to market their product properly

Apparently this was said at their release of the Samsung smart watch. I know of another smart watch that says in print that is is a stand alone, it will use 2g and 3g on American frequencies and European, it's called Omate.

I stand corrected , Samsung's Gear is not being marketed as a stand alone watch , but Omate is
Well, the Kickstarter campaign has ended and they raised more than 4 times as much as they sought, so it's been a success financially. Now we get to wait 3 months and see if they can really pull it off. My fingers are crossed.
I've already gave Samsung a piece of my mind on the topic, but one or a few persons isn't going to do it.
here's some facts to know beforehand:
SM-P600: Note 10.1 2014 Edition WIFI-ONLY (much older than Note Pro) received 5.1.1 update for various regions between early December 9th and January 16th
SM-T900: Tab Pro 12.2 WIFI-ONLY (same release date, cheaper product / lower paying customers) also received 5.1.1 updates Dec. 9 - Jan 16th
first, download the Samsung+ app if you don't have it already. go to the Support or Help Section, and start a Video Chat call (yes it works on Wi-Fi only). by default, the camera on your tab is off, if you wish for them to see you, you'll have to manually toggle it on during the call so don't worry about that. the video chat is U.S. based and almost always gets you a fluent English speaking agent capable of an intelligent conversation. the regular phone line is more likely to land you in India or Mexico and no speak ingles thank you for choose Samsung business appreciate come again byebye! or tangle you up in departments that either have no involvement in software support or have no way to pass along your thoughts.
next, proceed to complain either politely or passionately, whichever fits your fancy, about the lack of updates for (give the exact model number SM-P900) our tab.
be prepared, they will try in many ways to tell you there's nothing they can do or redirect the conversation to have you go check for newer software / how to check for newer software so they can get you off the call. we already know what the newest is and how to check. we're not stupid! ROUND TWO, FIGHT!
tell them how (use the model numbers and names) the older/cheaper devices already got 5.1.1 almost half a year ago. they will try to tell you that the carriers or some other entity are responsible for handling updates. WIFI ONLY devices get their updates from Samsung, not a 3rd party. don't let them end the call so easily! they may also try telling you that a 3rd party updated the other tabs. reassure them you're comparing apples-to-apples, Wi-Fi tabs to Wi-Fi tabs.
ROUND THREE! expect to hear something about their update support being designed to end at a time that encourages customers to purchase a new device. every new Wi-Fi tab Samsung has released after the Note Pro (and is planning to release through the end of the year 2016 http://tabletmonkeys.com/new-tablets/) are either 1. budget devices with lesser hardware in one category or another (which are for a different kind of customer), or 2. run different operating systems (windows, also for different kinds of customers), or 3. both
make it known how despicable it is to try and force us to new devices "even if the specs were better, which isn't the case" and that you insist your feedback gets noted and passed on to Relations and all other involved departments.
feel free to share if you have done this, you will have my thanks and that of many others
This won't work. The device is probably going to hit eol soon. But I tried anyway. I did a video call with Samsung support the through the Samsung+ app. The support agent was polite and gave me the same answers and I gave my response.
He also suggested to leave a bad review on the Samsung product page but that won't do anything. I'm pretty sure we are stuck with 5.0.1 or hopefully the developers can port other versions of Android to this device.
working or not, it's one of few avenues we got

We have unofficial Marshmallow builds. This one is works well if you don't care about the camera (which I've always found pointless on a giant tablet): http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t/rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-android-6-0-1-t3366834

Yes I saw that. However most of the time when I use CM I've always noticed that there are some issues. I might give this a try at some point.

What are the issues that you see? They can't be fixed unless the dev knows it is an issue.
Not particularly with this device but on other devices I've seen random reboots.

You know, I was looking for official updates for our SM-P900. And I came across this. My opinion is that we always have the best option: learn from our mistakes, never do it again and move on. With that said, we all paid good money for that "premium" tablet. And since day one I felt I was going to pay dearly for having to buy another Samsung product. And sure s**t, I did. Which happens to be my last Samsung device. I forced myself to look for other products and was actually pleasantly surprised to find others. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, maybe the market is more mature, maybe I spent my money more wisely.
Note 5 for my wife and this SM-P900 were last Samsung devices we bought so it was a while back. Without realizing it, we went with 2 Sony android TVs when we could have bought Samsung TVs. We bought Rokus for older TVs. I bought a Nexus 6P to replace my Note 3 last year. We bought LG washer and dryer. Also LG fridge. And it feels good to not give them any more money.
And every dog has its day: Note 7.
Don't get me wrong Sterist, I truly admire your enthusiasm. I have been there. I am an IT Director with 20 years of experience so I came across very expensive pieces of hardware for a very long time. But it's good that we start growing a spine and start to really stick to them and mean it. I'm not a fan of anything. I don't discriminate. And today I recommend people to buy what's reliable. Usually Apple. When you have employees who constantly ask you personal questions about what to buy and you don't want to hear they complain weeks later after they bought what you recommended, well, you get smart and recommend whatever is going to help so they don't come back to haunt you.
(deep inside I am pissed like you and others about the SM-P900 and lack of support or for Samsung to just sit around like they always do for the EOL of this device)
Except for maybe security updates, this device doesn't need updating. Updates usually screw something up like the last update that borked the external keyboard until they released another update to fix. It's is still a great product and does everything I want it to do. If you think apple stuff may be better then go ahead and buy their stuff but expect to pay more. Recommending apple products on a samsung tablet forum is not cool.

Not necessarily. There are some more tweaks and updates that this tablet could use. Or at least thats what I think.
I have to say that buying this tablet when I did I though it would at least get upgraded to v6. The device is capable of so much more. I am using the unofficial CM 14.1 and mostly its very good. But as previous people have mentioned there are a few things that don't seem to work. The Microphone is one of them. The screen resolution is awesome using CM14.1!!
The hardware was ahead of the capability of the OS so updates should of been worked on.
It was good value but without the updates the timescale of that value is too short, If I had shelled out a bit more for something else I would have an updated OS which could make better use of the hardware underneath and the value would have applied over a longer period in reality making it cheaper. This experience has change my view on Samsung products. When I can finally put down money for a new tablet, I will be definitively be looking elsewhere for a brand that supports their products for longer.
I recently bought this tablet second hand because I wanted a premium tablet with the S Pen but I wasn't willing to wait/spend on the Tab S3. At the time, I didn't realize how old the Note Pro actually was so I was disappointed to find out that it's stuck on Lollipop (granted, my fault for not researching this first). Like dstote above, I figured Samsung would at least support it until Marshmallow considering the hardware specs. What a shame.
Of course, this then brought me to xda. I immediately flashed Lineage 14 but realized I really wanted TouchWiz back (never thought I'd say that). Next I tried Carbon which is a modified stock ROM. It worked well and was much faster than stock but I lost 5GHz wifi access--presumably because it was intended for the P901. I then settled on the Bussybox build which has been working great. The only issue is the occasional random reboot which I'm hoping gets ironed out in future builds. Here's hoping someone puts together a TouchWiz Nougat build because I'm not holding my breath for Samsung to do it.
In my case I bought the SM-P900 because I travel a lot and wanted something to work on (including sketching/ drawing), watch movies on, keep in touch with family and friends on and something that, being a premium product, Samsung would support.
The hardware is far more capable than the OS and the unfortunate thing is the lack of S Pen support in most of the custom builds. Until this device I'd had a Galaxy S2,3,4 & 5 and a couple of Samsung TV's. I now have an LG phone, 2 LG TV's and LG fridge - Not because they are any better (you've only got to look at their track record with updates) but because they offer better value for money - We also have 2 Motorola and an Oppo phone in the house - All of the samsungs are stuck in a drawer with various flavours of lineage or CM on them as back ups. Apple - not for me - it's too locked down - but at least it's well supported.
Vote with your wallets, it's clearly the only thing Samsung understand.
