[Q] Bricked Galaxy Y! Please help.. :) - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

First of all, sorry if this has allready been discussed, but i've searched everything and dont know what to do anymore.
I have a Galaxy Y S5360 of my lil brother but now i've bricked it because one user told to flash the kernel if you want to overclock to 1,2Ghz.
I have done:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679563
- Installed Jellyblast v3.0.0
- Updated the update to v3.0.3
Than i downloaded kuro8_1 kernel and flashed it just by the Recovery and it worked smoothly.
But than I found out i couldn't clock it over more than 800mhz, so i read from a user to just flash this kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32477657&postcount=4820
Ext4_Converter-signed.zip
So i did this also via the recovery, and it didnt work.
My phone does not boot up anymore, it gets stuck at the boot image.
If i convert it back to RFS, it still doesn't work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012003
The fault i read everything i do (like reboot or install a rom/kernel) is:
E:failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
etc..
What is just happend, and please help me through this.
I can not do something with odin or download mode, just because my laptop wont see the Galaxy Y, but it does see the Ace, S1 and S3.. :/
I can drop files on the SD
Thanks in advance, and please help..
Kaantjee.

I've installed the drivers at least 20 times, still nothing happens if i connect the phone to the laptop. My SGS3 and my fathers SGS1 and mothers Advance are seen immidiatly after connecting it.. :/
What can be the problem? The Phone can get charged, so there is nothing with the USB. What else can i do? I knew something like mobile odin exist, can i drop everything at the sd card and than fire it up? Or doesnt it go so simple as i think?
Thanks,

Mobile Odin doesn't support galaxy y but u should probably go ahead and boot into download mode like in the link earlier and see if your phone comes up in Odin

[Q] Help with rooting Verizon Stratophere

Hi xda community!
Today was the third time I failed trying to root my Verizon Stratosphere and I came here for some help.
Almost all guides I read require me to install the zagid driver and then run Heimdall, detect the phone and.... well, I never get pass that so I can't remember.
Zagid seems to install correctly the drivers. The device I select is named "Gadget Serial". After the driver installation I can see the device in Device Manager correctly under "libusb (WinUSB) devices".
After the driver installation, I plug in my Stratosphere and run Heimdall (either via command line or through the frontend). Heimdall always says "Failed to detect compatible download-mode device."
I tried uninstalling WinUSB and installing it again. Nope.
Unplugged and plugged my phone. Nope.
Rebooted my phone after driver installation. Nope.
Rebooted PC after driver installation. Nope.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

No.... the stratosphere has its own forum. We have a completely different phone. You will easily brick your phone and have a fancy paperweight if you try anything for the epic. I won't even start on the differences. If you are so interested in bricking your phone, enter download mode, Odin 'el30 prerooted' with repartition, and enjoy your paperweight.

I searched the forums for the Stratosphere and didn't find a dedicated forum. Could you please point me to the right direction?
I'm not implying that Stratosphere is better or not compared to EPIC 4G, I simply read somewhere that they are based on the same phone.
Why would I brick my phone? Is there a known problem with rooting it?

There is a known problem with using epic 4g methods as it is not the same phone. Just Google Samsung stratosphere forum. I'm not saying that one is better. I am saying that any epic root methods will brick your phone.

ROOT GALAXY SII - Another way to root Galaxy s2

Unlock Root Tools is a android root tool. Supports the Android 2.1,2.2 and 2.3Easy way to get root access Permissions!
the software can be found at : LINKS REMOVED
Try at your own risk but It worked like a charm for my SGS2,
How to Root Your SGS2:
To Root your phone you will have to download Unlock Roottool from the unlockroot.com. and install
1) Your device must be in USB Debugging mode.
2) If you have not installed Android SDK Driver , install it after installing the tool : Start Menu -> Programs -> Unlock root -> Install Driver
3) Connect your device to your PC, Run UnlockRoot.exe
4) Click “Unlock Root”, Enjoy
I did not test the "unroot" option of this tool yet.
Thanks
So rather than use CFRoot which takes all of two minutes, I run an exe in debug mode from a source that I have absolutely no idea about the credentials of ?
No thanks.

OK then I will remove the words "easiest and symplest"
No doubt CF-Root is the best and simplest for those who already started using the Odin.
CF Root method :
1) Get into Download mode
2) Open ODIN, select the file
3) Connect phone and select start
4) Done in under 30 secs
Much easier than this "unlockroot" method...
This may not be the easiest way to get root for us.
But for somebody who doesn't know what odin is, Windows user who doesn't even know there is a download and recovery mode on their phones.
Or for someone who doesn't want to mess up with jigs and flash counters.
For them, this could be the easiest way to root and unroot their phones.
That people will find this usefull, others should shut up.

Instant root via .apk using ExynosAbuse exploit

I'm quite surprised I didn't see a post for this already. There is a new exploit for Exynos4 based devices that works on the Note 10.1. The exploit page says N8000/N8010, but I just successfully used it on my N8013 (with the German JB update). Its as simple as installing an .apk linked from the thread.
More info at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297
Also noteworthy, it does not seem to have bumped my binary counter either so all the root-locked apps still work properly.
I think we should expect an patch for this exploit from Samsung soon, this is a major security hole that any app can gain full root access to our devices and install malware or who knows what. Needless to say, until there's a patch you should be VERY wary about installing apps of unknown origins (even from Google Play).
**Edit to make clear**
While I appreciate the thanks, I want people to know I have nothing to do with creating this exploit or app. I only saw it posted by +Chainfire on Google+ and passed it on here.
I just did this on my stock 4.0.4 8013. I have been wanting to root for a while but my PC is dead. This was really easy. Thanks for sharing this.

Please read everything regarding this. Yes, it's an easy way to root. But it uses a very dangerous vulnerability on our devices. The app has been updated to allow it to do more than just root, it also allows protection from the exploit.
The "disable exploit" option gives me the peace of mind now..
However now the camera app fails. I need to uncheck the option to run the camera again.

You only uncheck the option??? For me don't working in two ways
be aware that using an apk to block the exploit (In effect changing the permisssions on the /dev/exynos_mem/ )
won't stop something that gets in before the apk can run.
It helps but its not an entire solution, can change the permissions in uevent.rc to 660 or 600 but that breaks camera (as noted). there's another piece of kernel source that might work better.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35541696&postcount=61
I've tried it on the 8000 source, but I'm back to broken stuff on my 8010, like usb and hdmi so I could do with the 8010 jb source to test it on.
This is going to mess up things for everyone who are on different roms as Samsung is going to come out with an OTA
is it correct to assume that the safest available rooting method is from the Method 2 on zedomax' post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831152?

Like previous methods, there's always a risk. But this method. In OP, uses an exploit that's been talked about alot lately in tech news. It uses an exploit in our Exynos4 chipset/kernel to root device. While this roots our de ice very easily, it allows the possibility of our devices being open to attack by other malware. For ex. You download an app not in Google play or anywhere really. It might have a hidden permission/instruction to send all of your data off to somewhere else. Also basically allowing someone else root access to your device to do as they please. With whatever agenda they have.
I just read this method has been updated to attempt to block exploit. But its not 100% based on what the RD just said. So proceed with caution. Don't go downloading any and every app. Especially pirated ones. Those most susceptible. To having malware in them.
I'm tempted to try but I can wait. I have no need to root. My device been working so well out the box. Plus I'm waiting on JB OTA update and don't want anything to possibly to possibly cause it to fail.
Follow the links in this thread and read up on exploit. Plus there's articles in various popular android/tech sites.

there is very less risk in rooting with this method compared to other 20 click steps to root.
Even if u choose not to root, the exynos exploit remains and that is of concern irrespective of the fact you rooted or not.

True..good point.
Samsung needs to patch this asap. They might as well include it with JB update and release it before the week is out
Easiest root ever.. And the Asus had a one-step root using linux too.
Think people are getting themselves in knots a little.
Using this method to root does NOT open up the vulnerability. It only uses it to root and also attempts to patch it. The vulnerability is there whether you root or not.
The warnings regarding installing potentially unfriendly apps applies to everyone.

what is the best rom for my phone? can you give me some links..thx!!
It's not necessarily not hardware capable its just that it's a Low End phone do Samsung won't be releasing any official builds so it's yup to devs to save us but there job is hard because broadcom refuses to release drivers to assist in development and there is no best rom note good a Rom is depends on the user's preferences

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679563
Well that's up to you but jellyblast it's a stable rom but make sure u follow the instructions properly I've seen way to many people not following instructions and bricking there device (though it's easy to fix) and then asking how to fix it

Also since your new you might want to look into partitioning your sd card and linking apps with link2sd since our internal memory is very low and fills up fast
This link explains how to do it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1462418

when you flash with odin it reverts your phone to the default rom that came when you bought your phone

so odin takes care to download the stock rom and then it flashes it...right?
If you flash from doky tread it will unroot your phone then just hit wipe data factory reset just for good measure

you are wrong, if you flash stock WIPE package from doky thread it will unroot your phone

Wipe package? If your talking about the stock Roms on dokys tread I have flashed them many times and then flashed a Rom after without having to re-root my phone if you're taking about a special package on dokys tread my earlier comment still applies because he obviously wouldn't be flashing that

custom roms are pre-rooted, beside the stock roms from doky's thread that are completely clean, without root
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium
So what you're saying is I flashed a rom without having root access or is it the more likely dokys roms don't unroot your phone
I never said his roms were rooted I said they didn't remove root

they remove root; you can check easily, flash one on the stock roms and then install titanium backup and you will see that you don't have root
