Its actually http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/phone , watch the video.
And as I thought I posted earlier, I like some of the features but some seem like they could be annoying.

Theres also an app called Complete Linux Installer or something that lets you install an ISO on your Android
Its very good though, I've used it to install Backtrack for a forensics competition.
Thats pretty cool though, a desktop on the go

My shift will probably end up there as a handheld pc. I moved to a country of incompatible transmission standards anyhow, so it is basically that now. I only use a few apps and the wifi. It'd be nice to turn it into a true little computer. So there's one person in the excited column. :good:
While I am on the forum. I wanted to send a huge thanks to all the Rom developers, that continue to tinker for us, shift owners.

We have had alot of different mobile OS announced/released in the last few years(tizen, firefox, sailboat, fedora, even webOS) and all of them have still yet to make any type of splash. Windows has partners and phones on the market yet still struggles to make a large impact. It's going to be insanely hard for Ubuntu to do anything note worthy at this point.

Can't wait to fork it.

I'd really like to give it a go!

I can see it dying very quickly. Ubuntu is in the perfect spot to take over a large chunk of the desktop and instead they try to take away from Google .....

I see this actually getting popular, and let me tell you why. Assuming I haven't misunderstood anything, they are also releasing Ubuntu for Android as well. Now Google will likely update Android to match Ubuntu's features (which is essentially much better multi-tasking), this is a given. However, there are so many phones that are stuck on outdated versions of Android (or install not always stable/complete custom roms). As long as your phone (or tablet) is a dual core, you'll be able to install Ubuntu for Android and voila, you now have a proper multi-tasking OS.
That's all you'll need, you'll become accustom to Ubuntu on your phone and you will consider an Ubuntu phone as your next purchase. I am excited to see how this unfolds and I am very anxious to install Ubuntu for Android on my Android phone and tablet.

I'm actually excited for this. The OS itself looks nice, and not like any other thus far. I honestly think this will be a contender in the smartphone world. How many of us use ubuntu for developing? And anyone into custom android stuff would probably be excited to try it since it is new and different. I feel like even if it isnt going to be the next big thing, dev's and people that like simplicity are going to love this.

ubuntu?
yes! very excited, it will be awesome to see how it all plays out after it is out there!

I can't see Ubuntu phones taking a noticeable share of the market. Even I, a Ubuntu fan and early adopter, am not so keen to abandon Android to use a Ubuntu phone. However, it would be cool to try something new.

Anyone following the Sony liveblog from Engadget? I really recommend you guys check it out, as there are some things being announced which are going to impact Android in amazing ways.
http://www.engadget.com/liveblog/live-from-sonys-tokyo-event/
Update: Basically, Sony just dropped a bombshell that brought an amazing amount of games to Android, obviously to compete against both Windows Phone 7 having Xbox integration and against Apple's formidable App Store. How, UNLIKE Sony to be thinking ahead.

I'm sure we will get it, 2 years from now when the 2.3 update comes out... :/
This has the potential to be enormous for Android, and for handheld gaming in general. The only concerns I have are:
1) The number of handsets that will have access, and if Cyanogenmod will count among them.
2) Piracy. As rampant as it was on the PSP and NDS (and yes, it was rampant), there is no doubt pressure within SCEA to take more advanced measures in combatting it. Android isn't the most securable platform at the moment (see: Netflix), and though I too am weak to 'unlimited' trial periods on games (hah), for this to really drive Android, it NEEDS to be profitable.
Hopefully the cost of games will be more in line with existing digital downloads than with past off-the-shelf prices.
I think it's great the Sony is supporting Android to such a degree. But, the PSX emulator is already out in the market. It's been out for quite some time now. Some of the roms don't work though. Hopefully, with official Sony support, all of the roms will work.
I would buy an official psx emu straigh from sony than anyone made by a third party (I don't mean offense, I have the emulator and enjoy), even though I paid for one already. I'd even buy the games straight from the sony store if they're priced good enough

Can I ask seriously why would you want to go from open source to so locked down you can't even wipe your butt without bill gates' permission??? My son has a wm7 phone and there is absolutely crap apps, no true personalization options (ringtones, themes). Android is the future, that's why apple and Microsoft are trying to stop google in court.

AFAIK the only non-WP7 phone to run WP7 is the HTC HD2, and I belive thats because of similarities with the HD7. It wont run on the Atrix. Ever.
Not one person on this forum would Ever put WP7 on this phone. So asking is slightly funny to say the least. No one who owns an Android would go through the hassle of putting dated crap software on their fast running Android Phone. It would be like Apple coming out and saying Hey by the way we are going to load all of our computers with Windows Vista from now on lmao.

Huh? Since when was MS trying to stop Android?
http://gizmodo.com/5845047/microsoft-gets-444-million-a-year-from-android-patents-says-analysts
Think at this point, Android is to Microsoft as Halo/Gears is to Microsoft..... one massive cash cow.
My Dell Venue Pro runs nearly just as smooth and fast as my OC Atrix. I know WP7 will never run on this (and I don't want it to), but it's not that bad really and yes you can load ringtones and notifications thru Zune but it's a pain. Given all the money Microsoft is throwing at it and the fact that almost 40% of HTC devices sold are running it...it's not going anywhere and will only get better. It'll never be Android but that's kinda the point...we already have Android.
Microsoft isn't trying to stop Android...they're gonna make $480 million a year from it as is lol.

I would. I feel that WP7 is THE best OS out there now. Why did I not get it? Lack of apps and i caught the "flashing disease"
It would certainly be fun to try out mango on the atrix. Actually the OS is very fast and stable, but its rather imposible to make it work on a hardwarewise non-standard wp7 phone. Id say one might have more luck with win8/wp8, since that one apparently has tegra2 driver support etc.
Well many ROM junkies like myself would try it out if it was available. But I would definitely not switch to WM7 on permanent basis.
Having said that, there is to little demand and too much effort needed into porting it, so it won't be available on the atrix ever.

Hmm, I wonder if Google might change it's mind about flash now, they might go back with Apple and Microsoft and replace flash
Sent from my Synergized Evo with aggressive Freedom using the XDA app
Flash is old hat though....
Technology is moving forward. We have things like HTML5 replacing the need for flash.
Flash is slow, clunky, and a battery and resource hog. Good riddance!
I dunno, I personally love having flash. I like my web pages to render exactly like a desktop, cuz my phone IS my desktop.

I have always hated Flash but it's the best we have and everyone uses it unfortunately. Losing this ability on our phones is a bad thing no matter how you slice it. If we had something better that was more universal that's a different story but we don't.

It does not....No one I know bought an Android for the sole reason that it plays Flash, and if anyone did, they're an idiot. I bought one because I could customize it, root it, and a boatload of other things that I can't do with an iPhone. HTML5 is way better than Flash anyway. We'll all be better off because of this.
^^^^^^^^^
Ummm, actually, Flash is one of the main things I was excited about when I moved to android on June 4th 2010 (evo launch).
I came from WinMo. The skyfire browser on WinMo supported flash, and finally provided a desktop experience on my phone.
Reading the comments on the article I linked to seemed to support the argument that HTML5 could be great, if it was developed a lot further than its current state. Which means, as OstrichSak said, what until then?
And hopefully google DOES have something up their sleeve

What the Atrix 4G first promised, it looks like the folks at Canonical may deliver.

Ubuntu's full desktop OS coming to multi-core Android devices
What the Atrix 4G first promised, it looks like the folks at Canonical may deliver. Think back to CES 2011, when Motorola showed us a future where our phone was the only computing device we would need -- only to leave us wanting when its webtop app didn't deliver the requisite functionality for such a future. Well, it turns out Ubuntu now runs on multi-core Android devices and your handset can grant a full desktop experience when docked with a display and a keyboard. It's a customized version of Ubuntu that plays nice with Android, the two OS's sharing data and services while running simultaneously. So, you can still access telephony and texts from the Ubuntu environment while enjoying all the computing capabilities it has to offer, including: Ubuntu TV, virtualization tools for running Windows applications, desktop web browsers, and Ubuntu apps built for ARM. It isn't clear exactly what hardware you'll need to run Ubuntu on a handset, but Canonical has said it works on multi-core devices with HDMI and USB connections.
