Playstation Suite - Epic 4G General

Anyone following the Sony liveblog from Engadget? I really recommend you guys check it out, as there are some things being announced which are going to impact Android in amazing ways.
http://www.engadget.com/liveblog/live-from-sonys-tokyo-event/
Update: Basically, Sony just dropped a bombshell that brought an amazing amount of games to Android, obviously to compete against both Windows Phone 7 having Xbox integration and against Apple's formidable App Store. How, UNLIKE Sony to be thinking ahead.

What I am really wondering is if any current generation devices are going to get this. On one hand they say its hardware nuetral, but they also said that they are going to:

What if this was the new Sprint device being announced on the 7th? I'm crossing my fingers!

We need GB! But other than that... I don't see why we wouldn't get it, pending an upgrade to 2.3.

I'm sure we will get it, 2 years from now when the 2.3 update comes out... :/

This has the potential to be enormous for Android, and for handheld gaming in general. The only concerns I have are:
1) The number of handsets that will have access, and if Cyanogenmod will count among them.
2) Piracy. As rampant as it was on the PSP and NDS (and yes, it was rampant), there is no doubt pressure within SCEA to take more advanced measures in combatting it. Android isn't the most securable platform at the moment (see: Netflix), and though I too am weak to 'unlimited' trial periods on games (hah), for this to really drive Android, it NEEDS to be profitable.
Hopefully the cost of games will be more in line with existing digital downloads than with past off-the-shelf prices.

I think it's great the Sony is supporting Android to such a degree. But, the PSX emulator is already out in the market. It's been out for quite some time now. Some of the roms don't work though. Hopefully, with official Sony support, all of the roms will work.

I would buy an official psx emu straigh from sony than anyone made by a third party (I don't mean offense, I have the emulator and enjoy), even though I paid for one already. I'd even buy the games straight from the sony store if they're priced good enough

PSx emulator is not hardware accelerated. You can be sure than an official emulator will be.

Very cool. Hopefully sony also has a controller peripheral in the works as well. Maybe some PS3 integration as too.

+1 to that ..... I'm sure there'll be an unofficial GB 2.3 soon, so we should be able to have if we really want it

I feel bad for idiots... -.-

I was just browsing the ATT site cause I'm due for an upgrade. The only phone running android other than the aria worth getting is the captivate, but I still love my aria and its gonna take one monster of a phone to get me away from it. Anyway, I stumbled on the aria's product page and read a few 1 star reviews from the "average" person... They generally hate this phone, they don't understand simple concepts... like using the phone correctly... It's so depressing, I'd hate to be such a primitive minded person in these technology driven times, I'd post a link to a guide to root the phone if I didn't already know att would delete it, and possibly punish me for breach of contract.

Fo Sho! My friend is pretty excited about it! The HTC guy said that there are going to be some pretty amazing phones at CES. There was a post a while back on a website, and the guy said that he was testing a 4" screen HTC model with front and rear camera. Wish I could find the link, I have been searching for hrs.
Look man, I am just telling you what I have heard, take it as you will!
Does XDA have an ignore feature? This forum would be much more enjoyable without Kaschenberg.
Oh man, yeah, I can't wait for a dual core android... portable n64 anyone? lol, prolly won't go THAT far, but it certainly will before you know it, now... if only I could connect my ps3 controller with bluetooth...

While it's very l33t and in line with this forum in general to root your phone, in no way does the Aria require rooting. Anyone giving it a 1 star rating probably should just stick to Razr's.
My wife's Aria is stock and she loves it. It's fast, smooth, and besides her seemingly ALWAYS getting "select vs dial" confused in the dialer, she has zero problems with it. Only minor problem she has is seemingly inconsistent battery life.. Sometimes she'll get 2 days, sometimes it's 12 hours, even with her fairly constant type of usage.

oh yeah, I completely agree, the only reason I finally rooted MY aria was for the overclock kernel so I could fully enjoy the SNES emu I paid for. I was so reluctant to root originally cause stock was just so enjoyable for me.
Also, please don't dis the Razr :'( My last phone was a gold Razr V3xx which had bookworm on it with a game scoring over 28 mil, and the sickest tower defense game ever put on a phone via .jar files... But I do get your point

Yeah, it will. There's some super bulky prototype models you can go buy from personal sellers that run you about 300 bucks and is basically an N64 just with a custom plastic molded case for handheld use. But I bet a hacked 3DS will be around much sooner than a phone with native N64 support... Hopefully, I'm wrong, but the best part is, doesn't matter if I am!

To the untrained eye the graphics of a PS1 and N64 may LOOK to be very similar. But there are WAY more factors involved other than how the graphics may appear to look from each system. An N64 emulator as I've read to believe requires almost 5 times the power of the hardware required to run a PS1 emulator. Possibly even MORE hardware power is required depending on the game you want to play (like games that used the expansion pack). The N64 portable emu (short of a modified N64) is a little further off than you may think... But I wouldn't be surprised if some betas spring up sometime this year.
i agree.. its the most simple interface you can possibly get. menu/settings

I hope this will make it to our Vibrants. Seems silly to make it exclusive when they could stand to make a lot more money selling these games to all high end phones.
EDIT: I read in an interview with Jack Tretton (on engadget I believe) that Playstation Suite is only for Gingerbread, and that it will come to the only phone available right now with Gingerbread, the Nexus S. So I don't think they'll limit it to SE phones, but we will need Gingerbread if we wanna get in on the fun.

yeah I read about this on cent or engadget a little while ago but from my understanding the it's only going to be able to run on Nexus S phones and the new dual core phones that are coming out. But either way it's rad and I hope they do end up making it work on the Vibrant
abd how come nexus s is different from my vibrant besides camera flash and lack of external sd ? if it runs on nexus runs on vibrant
The Nexus S runs Gingerbread while the vibrant officially does not. That's what people are getting at unfortunately. So unless GB is in the works by Samsung and carriers are actually going to push it through to the devices we may not officially see it. But we all have things like CyanogenMod which makes everything a bit simpler in the long run.

My thoughts exactly when I saw the PSPhone. I would much rather have a dedicated game pad than a keyboard.
My only problem with convergence devices is that if it breaks, you lose your phone, your game player, your music/media player all at the same time.

Agreed. Most games I play work, but not flawlessly.
As far as I was aware it was only going to *start* with PSOne games, but it also provided a hardware-neutral API. I think Sony is gonna market this to developers as the framework for gaming on Google's Android as well as their own PSP/NGP platform.

Actually the issue at hand has more to do with the production companies who would love any reason to back out of their contracts with Netflix and sue them. Essentially they won't let Netflix release anything if it even has a chance of being pirated and given Android's open source nature they need hardware DRM since they can't bake in the software DRM as in iOS and WP7.
Hope that provided some clarity.
i would think there would be someway hide the fact that you are accessing it with an android phone, make it think you are on a laptop or something using silverlight. i really have no idea how this works, or what it is that tells them you are on a android device, but with all the different types of emulators seems like someone could emulate that.
I would love to blame Apple as it is so much fun, but unfortunately this is a DRM (digital rights management) issue. There is a feeling that Android devices are too open source. (laughable since the pc is the #1 route for violating that with access to torrents and p2p). The windows based phones also have netflix. Netflix itself would love to get their app on Android phones as it can only increase business, but they must get past the issue of DRM. I'm waiting patiently as well.
How ironic is it that there was an ad for Netflix in my view of this thread
Anyways, we will get Netflix. I think the demand is too high for them to ignore.

So you cant just buy a USB gamepad? They are just as good as the Play gamepad. I also find it very hard to believe that at 28 years old you cannot buy a console for your home.
Sorry to break it to you but what company would release a follow-up to a commercial failure? Nokia failed on the N-Gage then decided to revamp the N-Gage brand in the N95 series. It FAILED AGAIN. The mobile market is advancing faster than most other things right now so a "gaming optimised" device will only be top-of-the-line for a few months before being surpassed. It reminds me of the PC market. A New PC is outdated the second its made.
People need to drop the "Play 2" thing as its really getting old now.

More than expected? They mustnt have expected to shift very many then. Dont get me wrong, I love the Play but it was still a failure. I remember asking not long after the Play came out in my local Carphone Warehouse store and 3 months after launch they had shifted 1 Play. A similar story can be read here http://m.mobot.net/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-sales-figures
With absolutely piss poor sales there will not be a Play 2 and Sony would have to be absolutely retarded if they made one

Sony is split into different divisions. The Console/Handheld division is the side plagued with idiocy. Removing features from PS3 such as OtherOS install and lack off cross-game chat. The Vita is failing already due to Nintendo pretty much holding monopoly of the market.
The mobile division is doing ok though. I know quite a few happy Xperia series users. Sony were smart not releasing ICS on the Play due to the gamepad messing up. Some people have this thought that they are entitled to every single update that is released by Android. It comes down to peoples stupid buying ideas of buying for what the device can do in the future instead of buying it for what it can do at the time of release.

You got a PS3 and Xbox360 in you house. It's enough, at the office you should be working :fingers-crossed:
Really said i can't hear this **** theme any longer.
Enjoy the Play, how it is and what it is and better enjoy it now than to discuss this endless **it.

Dude, you're like the only other person on this forum who also doesn't believe his crap. I said it directly to him in his thread about how so many files are byte-identical to Arc S firmware, among other things I've caught him out on; he just ignores me.
This thread should be locked, it's complete balderdash and a preconception of the 50/50 obvious. *Nobody* knows if Sony will release another Android gaming phone except for High-up Sony staff, which Mark is *not* in contact with.

Haha so true if theyed stop the bullcrap the could be more of a competitor to nintendo but like you said they just keep up the bull the main problem is there lack of sofware for the hardware. The best example of this is the xperia play aka psm disaster lol psm actually disgusts me now ps1 was ok but what in the flying hell is on there now talk about. GARBAGE same reason the vita is failing just no games. Nintendo on the other hand has games out the assssss

I for one am 25 and a seperate gamepad is out of the question. First off im a delivery driver and bust it out for quick sessions between deliverys, I already have to bring a gps(i go where theres no cell data) a work phone, and my phone. Im not going to carry around another item just to play a quick round IIF I have time. Sometimes I just want to try a save state once or twice literally 20secs.
Same with when I go mountain biking, or snowboarding I already have multiple items I dont want or may not even remember a seperate controller. And I may not have time or even want to get a little emulation time in. Same with surfing if I by chance am waiting in the car, these things are relatable to many other times your outside.
A phone with a slide out is always nthing else to remember, not to mention at 26 and most my friends arent into emulation or gaming really so im not about to start busting put a gamepad and akwardly having my phone clipped or on my lap and pretend its not pretty odd. I would never do that at waiting rooms like the dmv either, I dont mind people know im a gamer but that just seems rediculous to me unless your at home or in a car. Seems like it would draw attention when I for one am trying to chill blend in.
Meanwhile with a slideout it just looks like im texting like a regular person non fanatic gamer.
