Hey all-
Just got the Razr M and am loving it so far. On a side to note to this topic, I have to give a shout to the CyanogenMod team. I was using CM7 on my old Incredible and it really gave the phone new life. One of the reasons I picked the Motorola was the fact that they seemed to have the closest to 'stock' android out there. I have noticed that a lot of the things I loved about CM7 are included in the new JB operating system in the new Razr. I'm not as much of an expert at many of you, so I don't know who was talking to whom there, but it really seems like Android got the best bits of the CM7 release installed stock in my new phone. I'm sure I'll find gripes and get the urge to root this one after a while, but I had to give credit to the CM team for a great product.
Anyway, here's the reason for my post. I was stuck trying to transfer files between the phone and PC to no avail, much like many other people I came across on the net while researching the problem. I ran across a solution at another forum that worked for me (I don't know why, but there it is...). I went to the development tab and chose 'allow USB debugging' and 'allow mock locations'. For some reason that got the Motorola connect software (which I installed out of desperation and takes me to Verizon's unwanted backup website) to realize my phone was there, and also gave me full access to file transfers.
If this is old news, please disregard, but at the risk of sounding like a noob I'll post it in case it helps anyone else.
Cheers!
Ryan
I have tried that numerous times and even reinstalled the drivers a few times and my phone still won't show up in my computer, what os are you running? I'm running XP pro still no dice..

I'm running Vista 64 bit. You may mock me now!
I just let Motorola install the drivers, didn't go to the website and add extras or anything like that. Sorry about the issues, good luck!
Another thought?
You know, I forgot about this, but it bears mentioning. I have one USB port on my PC that operates at 1.1 speeds (or whatever it was before 2.0). It was one of those fancy cases where there were all kinds of extra goodies on it, but for some reason just this one lone port wouldn't take anything at 2.0 or better speeds for the life of me. When I plugged my data cable into that by accident, it timed out with an error. When I used a proper USB 2.0 port, everything went find\e. So, it may be a long shot, but you might want to check that you're on a fast USB port; otherwise, the timeout error sort of looks like a complete hang/crash...
I am pretty sure all my USB Ports are 2.0 I could be wrong tho, I installed the drivers with the software from the site that maybe my problem actually, I'll try again tonight
::Edit:: ok so I found out my USB Ports are not 2.0 I had my EVO 4g plugged in charging and when I got home my PC had a dialog stating that my device would perform better on a hi-speed USB port, that's a bummer cuz it is the only port I have

Is there a newer version I should be using? Anyone else having these problems? I have tried installing it on 2 separate computers and still get the same problem. I am trying to root my phone and can't even get pass the first step! Please help!
Check in "General" - this is not really a development question - good luck!

Try plugging the phone into the usb ports on your mobo. Other ports didn't work for me
Some people have trouble with front posts. In my case the cable sucks ass for anything besides charging and my kindle micro usb worked great.

What exactly is going on when you plug in your phone?
You need to odin or redbend to install the hacked recovery for clockwork to work.

I am having a similar issue suddenly. My original cable began having intermittant connection problems while charging right after I spent 3 days charging my phone from my laptop due to a massive power outage. I recalibrated my battery stats but the physical connection from the cable is flaky during charging and now during data too. My laptop sees it as drive e but it wont let me access it, it tells me to insert a disk into drive e, however pdanet works fine. I did perform the hack to reprogram the 3g hotspot app to bypass the dun setting prior to this happening. Did qpst change something else or did mess something up? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Update: The intermittant connection from the cable seems to have corrupted the USB mass storage driver. Had to uninstall/reinstall it & everything worked. BTW the vzw store replaced my cable with a Motorola micro-usb and it works great; the plug end is about 1mm longer and it fits in the socket much better.

OK here is my situation.
I have ver 1.3 samsung focus. It has been upgraded to mango beta.
I have the revision folder from the zune app that up graded it.
I am not the orig owner I have done a hard rest twice.
I have down loaded the samsung drivers and installed them.
I have downloaded the 2 roms listed in this forum.
No matter what i do I can not get this phone to be seen by my computer.
it is windows 7 64 bit pro.
I want to go back to NoDo so when mango realy comes out I can upgrade.
I have zune 4.8 with all the upgrades and it has never been able to see the phone.
I went to the device manager and it has nothing listed under portable devices or other devices??
I have searched but there are so many htreads with lots of words that match i spent hours reading things that did not pertain to this exact situation.
and I am willing to DONATE to get me back on track.
please help.
thanks
Did you try on another computer? Preferably on a 32 bit machine.
will try that right now and post feed back.
thanks
Good chance it could be the USB cable you are using if it is not the original USB cable that was shipped with the phone. I had same problem initially using another USB cable that I had. As soon as I used the cable that came with the Focus, it work right away.
My phone is a huge POS and I am ready to throw it through t-mobile's window. I have been getting a lot of hangs and crashes on my phone so I decided it was time to finally upgrade it. Well I have tried both my work and home PC's and my laptop. And the phone never shows up on the computer. When I plug it in, the phone beeps and asks me if I want to use Kies, Mass Storage, or Media Player. No matter what I select the phone is never seen by windows explorer, disk manager, or Kies. I have tried a few different cables and still no dice. I know the connection is good as it charges and asks if I want to mount the device. I figured it was software so I decided to factory wipe the phone, but that didn't help at all. I am at a loss, T-Mobile probably won't do anything for me. I am ready to jump ship and go back to iPhone, Android has not been a very good experience for me.
Ye sorry you had to get the vibrant dude. I would have gone with the nexus s on tmobile. Maybe try to enable USB debug. I don't know for a fact if it might help. Otherwise if you're willing to deal with it and put in a little time you could root it and run bionic 1.3.1 and just do the basics with it. With rooting you can go much farther but I dont think you care for much more than the basics. This phone is a great hardware unfortunately the software is not upto par. This isn't so much android as it is Samsung for crippling it with their touchwiz overlay and rfs format.

First, download your phone usb driver from Samsung and install on your PC or laptop.
Try these steps:
1. Click the menu
2. Click Setting
3. Click Wireless and Network
4. Unplug USB
5. Click USB Setting
6. Select the last option
Good luck

I know what you are going through. I have had to uninstall and reinstall the drivers so many times.
If you are able to get the phone updated to Froyo it will be much better. If you are willing to get your hands a little dirty, look into installing the famous Voodoo lagfix. It makes a night and day difference!
if you wanna update to froyo 2.2 i would suggest using kies mini
Going to bump this. Phone still is not recognized by any PC. It's not a driver issue. It charges, but does not allow me to transfer files or anything.
I have the two vibrant and one with your problem. The one with the problem was bought used and I'm sure that the seller had no intention of ripping me off because the from was the factory stock . Anyways it doesn't open as a mass storage or is detected in Odin. The best thing I could do was flash cyanogen or miui on it and that's how I keep up to date. I believe that this Is a hardware problem. Perhaps by water, dust, or who knows what. Nothing I can do about it.

If you had a Linux box to plug it into, you could probably find out more of what is going on. You could try putting the phone into download mode and see if Odin can see it. It could well be a bad USB port. You could take it into T-Mobile and ask them to try.
It's not an android problem, but it could be cheap Samsung hardware or bad software.
All three comps using the same os?
Same driver version for all three?
Is it recognized in device manager when plugged in?
If all you need to do is transfer files, then use Samba

I have had this problem before, make sure the USB cable your using is a data usb cable, and not just a charge cable, yes they do exist.
Look this might sound stupid, but try different cables, even a new one if possible, and ask them to test it for you. I had the same problem and I had a working cable (or so I thought), one day a friend lend me his cable so I tried once more, expecting the usual, but it was recognized by my pc. It was a bad cable all along.

This is possible, I was using a Generic cable and could not get Odin to recognize it until I used the official Sony cable at one time a few months ago.
Hi, I'm new around here although I check in periodically to see if you guys have anything cool that I can put on my Continuum My phone's usb broke recently, but luckily I still have one from my old phone from like 2/3 years ago, the LG Chocolate Touch. Anyways, I want to install a ROM on my phone, but I can't seem to connect the data. It has let me connect the data before, just at random times. Like, it charges fine but I can't access the contents of my sdcard. Is there any way to fix this? (Sorry if this is the wrong forum, as I said, I'm new here, and I'm in a bit of a rush.)

I'm almost positive I did.
I've used USB cables from both LG and Palm to transfer data and even install roms on my Continuum. Most cables are built exactly the same, except for some Motorola and Blackberry cables I think. So I would think it has to be your drivers, try unistalling and reinstalling if they are already on your computer.
Edit: Also, my computer seems to recognize my phone faster if USB Debugging is turned on.
