[Q] I lost storage on my Nexus 4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 16 GB Nexus 4 from the play store, however, it is now displaying 5.7 GB total on the phone. I have used the phone for about a month now and it has always had a total of about 13 GB of storage in that time. This happened after I did a full wipe of my phone and flashed Cyanogenmod 10.1 (12/31/12) nightly build on my device. I have since erased everything completely and reverted back to stock JB (4.2.1) following these directions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36068405 . However, I still only have 5.7 GB of storage. Has anyone else experienced this and is there any way to figure out what happened or how to get my storage back? Thanks in advance.

The OS is on that 8gb too taking up space. That's why you're only left with 6.

This, and the fact you don't get exactly 8gb. It's like when you buy a 1TB hard drive and when you are done partitioning and formatting it, you get like 928gb or whatever... (I didn't do the math, but you get it)
But this is a 16gb model......

You must have just recently tried going back to stock..
Grab the stock image and
fastboot -w update image-nakasi-jzo54k.zip and it will repartition and format everything correctly.
or boot into stock recovery and do a factory reset. it wipes sdcard back to normal.

Unless they sold you an 8GB and said it was 16GB.
How about provide a screenshot of your storage info.
Ok, call me Douchebag, cause I haven't seen the screenshot in the first post.
I think you got 8GB model
i guess ill have to get a replacement becuase i have factory rested in just about every way you can and i know FOR SURE I HAD A 16GB DEVICE, so any idea on where to get a replacement?
The place you got it from.

No my device is just really stupid and only wants me to use 6gb of his 13gb he just doesn't like me right now maybe he will later.....

I've had that problem this morning, just flashed the zip of GlazedJB, I think, but any ROM.zip should do the work, as it flashes system partiton. Have you tried that?
Yeah I was on the ubuntu build then went back to pa then it had the issue so I flashed the stock factory image then it still had it but maybe I still have 13gb It just doesn't tell me?

I got it while returning to stock, then it didn't want to boot so I installed AOSP and when booted I saw there was only 6gb. Must have been bad download of factory image...
Try not to flash stock-based roms, use any cm or aokp. It won't hurt, the worst thing that can happen is to stay at 6gb.
And, as it's hardware problem, can you claim warranty for a replacement?
The Same works only for img jzo54k ...

That works only for img jzo54k ...
if you put that to img jop40d it will screw the Nexus 7 and all has to be done again.
waste of time

Anyone?
How did you install? Ota or manual flashing? I had that issue when I first went to stock with the n7. A simple factory reset solved it

Yea I'd say that it probably just needs a factory reset to clear unneeded files. I find it good practice to clean up my SD storage occasionally too. Between old backups and app data, you can usually free up lots of wasted space.

Nexus 4 internal memory issue

Since I rooted my phone and installed some custom ROMS. I've noticed that I've only been able to access about 4gigs of my internal memory on my 16gb Nexus 4. I deleted all the files from my phone to see if a phantom file was holding my space hostage. But nothing I've found works. I'm still checking around to see if there's anything I can do without destroying my phone. I'm currently running Paranoid droid 2.99 Jan 03.

No backups at all. I copied off all of my backups and deleted all the files and folders from my root.

It only is showing 4gbsnof space available.

i would unroot and back to stock then call google and tell them to send you new one
You already tried formating everything using recovery and reinstalling an already made backup(system only) stored in your pc using the toolkit?
No but I will later

I have this EXACT SAME problem... Flashing to stock makes no difference basically looks like the 16gb has been formatted to an 8gb phone with the memory being 5.6gb space... I basically have Learned to live with it now such a shame but not surprised others have come across this problem

I'll check this out and let you know how it worked for me. Thanks.
Thanks El Daddy your guide worked perfectly. I'm back to normal and will proceed from here. Anybody else with a internal memory issue please follow El Daddy's link to correct your issue. All you need to know is basically having an understanding of fastboot.

Help! :( Internal storage shows 6GB instead of 16GB

Hi guys,
Since the 4.3 update, I have only 6GB of internal space on my Nexus 7 device, even though I have the 16GB version
Do you guys now what can be the source of this problem and how can I solve it?
Thanks!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2382756
Total space 6gb, tells me the partition size is wrong. What would cause that, I dunno. I'd have to guess you played with more than just updating to 4.3. Anymore more to tell us?
Mine did this. I ended up formatting everything and flashing a new ROM.

No backup all stuff first than completely reset and flash a new rom. (backing up just like you normally would via MTP)

I had to pull everything I wanted to keep then formatted every partition clockwork had to offer, flashed a ROM through adb sideload then moved it all back.

Well, I'm sure op knows if it's an 8 or 16gb tablet lol. Mine is a 32gb tablet, and had been for over a year. When I upgraded to 4.4.4, mine did the same thing, it showed 6gb free, usable space. I formatted & reflashed everything but it didn't help.
What did help was locking & unlocking the bootloader. I also updated the bootloader but that wasn't necessary. For some reason, re-locking & then unlocking the bootloader reset the available computed space. I'd recommend anyone facing a similar problem on a nexus 7 after an update try the same thing, because for some unknown reason, the device defaults to thinking & reporting it's an 8gb tablet when it's really not.

Cm 10.2 nightly, usable space on 16gb version.

Hi guys, I have flashed latest nightly, everything is OK but I have only 10.62Gb of storage (I have 16gb version) . Is this OK? Shouldn't be more? Can you check on your phones please?
Thanks

Hi,
It's normal, same thing for all G2 16 Gb users... A "huge" part is used for the system.
Thanks, it looks like I have to set up a camera sync with Mega.
Sent from my LG-V500 using xda app-developers app
It's normal. Just like any hard drive a portion of it is lost when formatting and the rest is used for system files and the ROM itself.
