Nexus 4 back not sparkling? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The back of my Nexus 4 is not sparkling AT ALL. When you look in the light you can see the individual dots but there is no sparkle, they are all the same muted color hidden beneath the glass. Anyone else having this problem?
androidcentral (dot) com/another-new-wave-nexus-4s-shipping
That's exactly what it looks like, no sparkle, no nothing.
I got this today in the second wave of Nexus 4 coming in.

this thread is probably going to get locked, but it has to catch the light just right for it to "sparkle"

Why would it be locked? Because of my external links for pictures since they thought it might be spam?
Well anyways it doesn't. I've looked for a good minute in the out side light but i got nothing.
And i have to wait five minutes between posts...
God this forum has a lot of anti-spam, first the captcha to sign up and then another to post a comment and you can't link or post often.

It's only because you're a brand new member. All that will stop after awhile.
Do you think you could take pictures of what you are describing? It is a little difficult to imagine the problem without pictures.

Well the picture is showed by that thread that i provided on another site but okay I guess.
As you can see you saw the dots but they aren't different colors and don't sparkle. The second picture is in the sunlight.

I have the same "issue" as TC, it doesn't sparkle like in the videos or pictures I've seen. The effect is very weak but perhaps it does require strong light like sun rays.

That does seem rather dull imo. Have you contacted service about the matter?

It does require strong light at the right angles to "sparkle." I'm sure still having the glass protection on doesn't help either.

is the plastic that i ripped off of the charger cable and the traveler output thing going to cost me money? :/
that's the only thing I changed on the phone since I've received it and I really don't want to pay for this.

..why would they charge you for removing the plastic?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

No, it's a good thing you posted pictures. It is definitely because you still have the factory plastic on the back. It really, really dulls the effect. I had the same disappointment when I first got my N4. I was actually going to post a topic about it but then my full body protector arrived and I peeled off the factory protector and applied the new one and now it sparkles beautifully. Peel that plastic off and then report back.

LOL he got a replacement phone anyway? you can just keep your charger, then you have 2! 2 usb cables are nice for a usb car charger or something
anyway, if your phone is flawless, you might be better off cancelling that replacement because what if your new phone has issues? You are unable to send the new phone back because then you will be charged again. Always that fear... then you'll have to deal with another RMA but this time you have a faulty phone in your hands.
also remove that plastic on the back as suggested.

Edit: Also, this is an abortion of a thread topic.

Permanent smudge on screen

I recently noticed a rather large smudge at the bottom of my screen
http://i.imgur.com/9lbMd.jpg
It does not go away no matter how much I wipe the screen.
Not sure if I caused this or if it came like that.
It is only noticeable when I use the device outside or shine light on it.
Does anyone else have anything like this?
I believe thats the oleophobic coating coming off. Have seen it a few times on here. Did you buy it from the play store or a retailer. Regardless they should let you swap it out for this issue. Use a screen protector on the new one.
It's the coating, it looks bad though. What have you been using to clean the screen? Cleaners with ammonia aren't good for the screen and if you're constantly using a sleeve it can wear through it as well.
Thanks, guys

---------- Post added at 05:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:21 PM ----------
those lines you see without the spots are just were the finger passed and cause some light refraction that doesn't enable to see spots in there but THEY ARE THERE ALSO! After you clean the tablet they are there also..
And when you clean your tablet you don't see no spots at all, only with a strong light pointed at it.. But the thing is.. the tablet can be like this from the factory/shop and you won't notice when you open the box.. just a few days later.. Be carefull with that..
---------- Post added at 06:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:47 PM ----------
As you can see, when the tablet is clean...
theres was no chance to see the spots when unboxing.
I'm having the same problem. The spot will not go away with any amount cleaning but it's not annoying enough to replace.

If it is the protective coating coming off then aggressive cleaning would only make it worse over time. I would suggest getting a screen protector to try and prevent it from getting worse, it's a good idea to use one anyway.

Pretty sure ASUS repair are morons

So I had this annoying light leak on my N7, a circle of light on my screen. I tell ASUS about it, they tell me to send the unit back to them for a new LCD.
Okay then.
I get it back today, and there's this massive light leak on the right of my screen, pressing down on that part of the screen sends ripples though the display.
I am not impressed. Looks like I'm sending my device back to them for a second time?
Hey Macmee. Where are you located? Canada? If so, shoot me a PM with your RMA number and let me see if I can look into this for you. Maybe we can find out exactly what they did.

I've sent a PM with my RMA. If it helps, the light leak last time was more white and circular, this one is a large yellow stain of sorts, that looks like it's coming from the right of my screen.
That's unfortunate that you had problems with your repair. I was experiencing the screen separation on my N7 and they fixed it in about a week for me.
Its nice that someone from Asus is watching these forums IMO.

I have to say, I've been delightfully impressed by HTC this time around. Not only did they make a great piece of hardware, they also didn't make it too much of a pain to customize it software size it. Between HTC Dev and not having to manually flash a boot.img through fastboot, I'm definitely pleased with my phone. The ONLY let down I have is a couple of dead pixels on my rear camera. Then again, I'm not one to take many pictures!

Here's a picture of a white bed sheet. Notice the small black dot. That is the cluster if dead pixels. It isn't too noticeable, but it drives my OCD crazy. The ONLY reason I don't return it for a replacement is that I'll most likely end up with an even more faulty device than the one I currently have.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it. I've had mine since launch (in the States) and I'm absolutely in love with it. In fact, this week I'm finally pulling the trigger on selling my iPhone 5 64GB - I'm now 100% sure I won't be going back (but lets not make this an Apple bashing thread lol)!
I'll also add, I've always had black phones (see my signature) and I'm incredibly pleased I did something different this time around and went with Silver/White. Such a beautiful device.

This is really strange. I've also never heard of this. Some DSLR's can have "stuck" pixels in their sensor. Most Canon's have what they call a "Manual Sensor Cleaning" in their menu options to help alleviate that issue.
I would imagine it's simply a defect in the sensor itself - thus not being able to capture that group of pixels. In all honesty, I would send it back. But that's just me, I wouldn't be able to live with that.
My device battery went faulty right in the middle of my vacation, but I don't think I will change to SG4 for any reason. This phone rocks.

Why? Why take the chance of returning it and receiving a device in worst conditions just because of a nano spec on the lens or screen? You can't even see it unless you search for it. That would be ridiculous. He's device is in great conditions besides that one spec that you cant even see.

I see your point of view and I understand. However, I guess some of us just don't want to settle for something that does have a flaw... even if it is that small.
Granted, I will admit some of these guys around here get a little carried away... like the guy that returned his device 8 times. I would have given up after 3 personally.
I paid $650 for my One. And replaced iPhone 5. For that kind of money I'd expect everything to work and be pristine. That's from my point of view.

Red 64 gig turbo!

my red battery cover showed up today. I love the ballistic nylon, but the fraying was sending my OCD into overdrive lol case anybody was wondering, as most would figure that fits the 64 gig version perfectly. With the black power and volume keys it actually looks better than the factory version I think. I'll post some pics later when I have a second camera available.
Nice! Did the adhesive make it difficult to remove the original back?
Where did you buy it?
I trust you're going to share a pic or two with us... Congrats!
Yes I would like to see some pictures. Was it hard to get the back off? Does it adhere to the back alright? Did it come with led's for the flash?

Lol ya. I got over excited. I'll post some tonight with my Wifes phone .
So about the adhesive. No its not to hard. The top corner clips are the hardest part. Its hard to get them to pop loss and I was worried about damaging the frame.
I ordered it from eBay. Google droid turbo battery cover, it should pop up in shopping. Mine was 25 but I saw one for 19 yesterday.
The fit is really tight and clean. I have to admit, I never looked at the mgf models because I wanted 64 gigs. But wow it feels great in the hand. I am so pleased with it! My only concern is how it holds up. The bn is pretty much scratch proof. The mfg model is basically Kevlar with a soft touch clear coat. But that's OK, I ordered another one as a backup. I also ordered a second bn back to experiment with. I want to try and remove the bn and try leather! But that's a another project.

If you talking about that black rubber pad in the teardown video. That's just a guard to protect the charging coil from the battery cover. In the tear down video the guy made it seem like you have to be very careful with that. It's just a piece of rubber. And I actually detact the side of it facing the back plate. So that it only stuck to the phone. I used lint lol
That's actually a good point. So, if you end up doing this. When you take the back plate off, That black piece of rubber that's protecting the coil. You're going to want to make sure that not sticky on the part facing the battery cover. Once you remove the back plate the adhesive strength of it is going to be weaker. So if you don't make it not sticky, when you put the phone back together everytime you touch that spot it could make a noise and be quite irritating. Plus I'm not sure if the curvature between the two battery covers is the exact same.

I'd love to go to the red cover so I can use one of the magnetic car mounts. Are there instructions on taking the back off?
Edit: I picked up the red one for $19 on eBay. after I saw the teardown video. Seems stupidly easy to replace. Can't wait to get this so I can install a ProClip car mount for the Turbo. I love the BN back, but the fact very little works with it makes it useless IMO.

Note 20 Ultra: Dust / Fogging issues in camera lens in some review units

Looks like some people with review units are reporting that their Note 20 Ultra cameras are fogging up, there is moisture in the lens that was not there out of the box. Also some are saying there are dust particles in the camera lens. Hopefully these are isolated issues in review units.
Samsung's response in the attached thumbnail is not very encouraging though.

-50 with bare hands/thin gloves for pics must mean a lot of frost bite for you. Tell your company to get you a point and shoot camera rather than risking your $1800+ phone. They're dirt cheap now and you could leave your big mitts on.

-50C... that's super common. And I bet you'd be whipping your phone out all over the place to take pics and make calls too.

Probably for a week a year, and I keep it with me for music while I'm at work and yes, I take pictures for reports on what I've inspected pretty often

Lol not that remote, just northern Alberta. But for a week or 2 a year it gets real cold. I need my phone with me anyways, hopefully I don't wreck the phone that they partially pay for lol.

I'm in the Winnipeg area, so I feel ya.
Even with them covering part of the phone I'd be scared.
This honestly does not seem like a big issue at all. Every where there is some freak out about the devices that does not carry on. I live in Japan. It gets absolutely muggy here during the summer. People take a device that is built of metal and glass from a cold, air conditioned environment of 20C with little humidity and then suddenly step outside in temperatures in the 30C's with humidity near 80%, then expect this cooled glass and metal sandwich to ignore the laws of physics?? It has been rainy in Seoul, Korea the past week.
It is good to note any issues that a newly launched phone may have, yet I think people take things to the extreme these days. Every new phone is going to have a specific number of units with failures and defects.
Or they rushed out a product and released it before fully testing
Err that’s one user? Hardly an issue.
Do you think they done something to camera glass due to the incidents that happened with the s20 ultra
I mean they did something related to pressure as some s20U was broken with no reason as if they where under pressure
I saw people comment that this was an issue on older samsungs too when moving from extreme temperatures. Doesn't seem like too big of an issue as long as it returns to normal after the device warms up. This is an issue with camera lenses for real cameras as well.
Over 8k people in the Facebook group I'm in, and not one person has the issue.

That means the issue is not widespread, which is good. Someone on Samsung reddit posted they had this issue in USA I believe.
Code:

I am in France and bought from Orange unlocked 256gb Exynos Mystic Bronze, and I have dust in the middle camera. Mail sent to Samsung to see what they will do. It wasn't there when I bought it, its the first thing I checked when I got it out of the box.
With the fogging issues in Camera some other issues over there to
I was suspected of some other issues in my Note 20 Ultra the many times 20ffp delay while using a smartpen. usually, I was using my Ipad for designing ULM Diagram For Assignment but this time I was using my new note so I suspected this delay.
