my red battery cover showed up today. I love the ballistic nylon, but the fraying was sending my OCD into overdrive lol case anybody was wondering, as most would figure that fits the 64 gig version perfectly. With the black power and volume keys it actually looks better than the factory version I think. I'll post some pics later when I have a second camera available.
Nice! Did the adhesive make it difficult to remove the original back?
Where did you buy it?
I trust you're going to share a pic or two with us... Congrats!
Yes I would like to see some pictures. Was it hard to get the back off? Does it adhere to the back alright? Did it come with led's for the flash?
I don't get threads like this. Why even start the thread if you have no pictures or information to share?! It's like when someone says they got something great to tell you and then says, "hey, I'll call you back". #epicthreadfail.
Take phone into bathroom. Use mirror. Done.

Lol ya. I got over excited. I'll post some tonight with my Wifes phone .
So about the adhesive. No its not to hard. The top corner clips are the hardest part. Its hard to get them to pop loss and I was worried about damaging the frame.
I ordered it from eBay. Google droid turbo battery cover, it should pop up in shopping. Mine was 25 but I saw one for 19 yesterday.
The fit is really tight and clean. I have to admit, I never looked at the mgf models because I wanted 64 gigs. But wow it feels great in the hand. I am so pleased with it! My only concern is how it holds up. The bn is pretty much scratch proof. The mfg model is basically Kevlar with a soft touch clear coat. But that's OK, I ordered another one as a backup. I also ordered a second bn back to experiment with. I want to try and remove the bn and try leather! But that's a another project.

I might be interested in this but I'd have to see your pics. I kinda like the black ballistic nylon, but your description sounds cool.
Speaking of battery covers, I never knew there's a blue nylon one.

There's a lot of them for around $22USD on aliexpress.

Fun fact! The bn turbo is also made of Kevlar... Interesting...

If you talking about that black rubber pad in the teardown video. That's just a guard to protect the charging coil from the battery cover. In the tear down video the guy made it seem like you have to be very careful with that. It's just a piece of rubber. And I actually detact the side of it facing the back plate. So that it only stuck to the phone. I used lint lol
That's actually a good point. So, if you end up doing this. When you take the back plate off, That black piece of rubber that's protecting the coil. You're going to want to make sure that not sticky on the part facing the battery cover. Once you remove the back plate the adhesive strength of it is going to be weaker. So if you don't make it not sticky, when you put the phone back together everytime you touch that spot it could make a noise and be quite irritating. Plus I'm not sure if the curvature between the two battery covers is the exact same.

Not possible. There is no international red version, so therefore there is no red version without the Verizon logo. I don't know how hard it would be to remove. I think its laser etched. I was actually giving that a thought.. How I can remove it lol

Your BN was fraying? That's not giving me the warm fuzzies. Maybe I should get the red back instead of the blue BN. Something so I can tell my phone from my wife's.

I'd love to go to the red cover so I can use one of the magnetic car mounts. Are there instructions on taking the back off?
Edit: I picked up the red one for $19 on eBay. after I saw the teardown video. Seems stupidly easy to replace. Can't wait to get this so I can install a ProClip car mount for the Turbo. I love the BN back, but the fact very little works with it makes it useless IMO.

This is going to be basically a review, not a tutorial, of what I experienced after I re housed my R800x in white and the steps I went through to get it done, I have no prior knowledge on the process, I simple "went for it" and had success.
~~ Please Note: Performing this can seriously damage your phone and if done wrong will possibly permanently destroy your device, please read everything and do everything slowly, Please understand you may attempt this at your own risk, you have been warned! ~~
For a good understanding on how to tear your Play apart and not break anything check this video out, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3n5ZfkqhzE
You can find the White Housing I purchased in these 2 links
The outside of the screen (digitizer) as seen in First photo
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Touch-Scree...&otn=2&po=LVI&ps=63&clkid=7007674525043897251
The White Housing Top , Middle plate, Control pad plate and Back as seen in the Second and Third photos
(I have seen a cheaper one since I bought mine, but this is the one I bought)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FULL-Housin...500747?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item27bf9d978b
This link is another R800x thats branded Verizon but I doubt it having the service ribbon sticker (for lack of better words which comes into play later) because they dont show a back view of the Middle plate
http://cnn.cn/shop/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-cdma-black-housing-verizon-branded-p-12588.html
After getting your parts and watching the video you should be where I was at in Photo Four, my phone torn down and the new pieces ready to make this r800x look great.
Photos Five and Six -are close ups reviewing it all.
Photo Seven - is where I started, the touch joy stick pcb ribbon. It was kinda scary thinking if i rip this thing or pull to much that the touch pads wouldnt work anymore, and thanks to ShadowGun I was able to verify they still did. I used the blue tool for prying the phone , to help peal back the ribbon as you see it, you can give it a decent pull with your fingers as you get enough pealed up, try to pull as close to the glued end as possible so you dont risk tearing or something.
Photos Eight and Nine - I had finished moving the touch pad ribbon to the new white control pad plate and started removing the Menu, Start and Select buttons and transferring them to the white plate. Using the blue tool again sorta scrap up the backing to each of the; Menu and Start and Select buttons, it helps to push from the other side on the button a little. You need to try and not to deform the sticker/glue piece that holds the buttons in place or it might Not stick to good on the new plate, a sweat gripping moment that I first thought would just never work but patience does pay off in this step.
Photo Ten - it was all done, that piece at least.
From there I moved onto the the Middle Plate, which required a few steps if you decide you want to swap these out. One in particular that left me clueless for a few days without service, bare with me on this part..
There is a black Antenna sticker on the Bottom half of the Middle plate on your R800X, which has a gold ribbon on its opposite side that finishes a circuit, without this circuit completed your phone will Not have service and dialing *228 will not work your phone will tell you, in a mans voice "The code you have entered is in-correct please check you code and try again" - The first time I heard that I was thinking hmm thats probably not good and Verizon told me "thats not programmed in our system, you should Never get a msg like that or a mans voice" So I had them send me a replacement ( Of course I didnt mention this was all my fault and I re housed it, and thats the real reason I wouldnt go to the store to have it checked out, but that shouldnt matter right )
Upon getting the replacement phone I, for somehow the first time, Noticed the black sticker antenna on the back of the Middle plate. I grabbed my original housing and noticed the sticker antenna on it as well, so I pealed that off and revealed, to me which was previously unseen, this gold ribbon connects a circuit with two terminals on the phones mother board. The gold ribbons two ends slide into a slot on the Middle plate, underneath it to make the connection. I replaced this black sticker onto the new White Middle plate because the back of the L1 and R1 triggers are White and they are Black on the original Vz housing.
Photo Eleven-Shows the back of the New white trigger Middle plate, no black sticker antenna
Photo Twelve-The Middle plate from the Verizon replacement
Photos Antenna 2 and Antenna 3-These are the other 2 antennas also needed for service, be sure to pull those off and place them onto the new middle housing of your new phone.
For the r800i and r800a they have another antenna on the middle plate (I just dont have a photo :crying: I have an r800x) I can tell you at least that if your holding the middle housing and the Antenna 2 is on your right, the r800i/r800a other antenna will be on the left side of the housing.
Photo Thirteen- I wanted the White triggers so I super glued the black sticker antenna back on, worked out pretty good if you ask me, minus my thumb print of course. .
Photo Fourteen- I circled the inside area of the Middle plate where the you can see the opposite side of the gold ribbon that makes the connection with the mother board of the phone in the top half and you can see its not on the New Middle plate in the bottom half of the photo.
If you decide to go ahead and swap the Middle plate, you will need to remove the speakers as well and I cracked my original plate removing the left speaker, they are in there pretty tight, I basically pryed up on them in anyway that I wasn't destroying any part of them. As seen in Photo Fourteen
In Photo Fifteen I was now ready to replace the Top half of the phone and put the new Digitizer on. You wont need any extra glue here, the New White Half of the housing comes with a clear plastic film on it (sorry I had already removed before I took the photo) that was protecting some glue, thats seems to be holding up pretty good a week later and I dont think it will ever come off. Once you have replace you new Digitizer on the new Top half of the White housing, you are ready to reverse the steps seen in the Video linked at the beginning , once you have completed that you will be enjoying your newly housed in luxurious White and Silver Xperia Play as I am in the Final Photos.
I hope this helps, this was the first time I tore a phone apart physically and might have my "names of pieces" wrong but I tried to explain it in a way that makes sense and simple to look at. I do wanna make a video or something because I think anyone looking to do this would benefit more from a better "visual tutorial" but I dont have much time as id like to and this should serve good.
I hope in anyone who decides to go through with this, and enjoys having a white Xperia Play like I have
That looks awesome!!! Mind taking a couple photos of the screen and with it powered on to see how good this after market screen is? Awesome job and the white looks nice and clean.

The black sticker completes a circuit that is needed for service. Idk exactly what circuit it completes but the sticker has a gold pcb type ribbon on it that makes contact with two pins on the motherboard. Without the black sticker in place your phone will boot with no service. I didn't find out until after the fact and if you look in my photo where I glued the sticker back on you can see its a little mangled but glued it down flat and my service is just as good as it always was . Well as good as 3g can be lol .. But to answer your last question as long as you pull the sticker off slowly and don't rip it you should be fine. The gold ribbon on the bottom half just can't be torn in half or the circuit won't complete. But it peeled off without tearing for me, just take your time and you should be good to go.

Okay, so on the back of the ballistic phone. If you're looking at the back, on the upper right side. Almost directly across from where the camera is is there a small indentation or change in the curve? I'm wondering if I have a defective phone. Or if that's normal. You don't notice it until you notice it then you can't un notice it lol

I went back to Verizon and had them pull out another 64 gig. It didn't have it. But there display model did. Non the less it bothered me so I had them replace it.
I just received my 64 GB Black Nylon from vzw.com and after taking it out of the packaging, the back had been making a cracking noise when I press down, especially on the bottom by the droid logo. I'm assuming it's because there's a space between the nylon and the internals? Possibly wasn't glued correctly? Will it go away? I don't know if this warrants getting a replacement though, but I don't want something to happen in the future and then get stuck with a CLN Device

Not making any noise on mine.
lol, I can actually replicate that sound. I think its because the logo thingy is probably just glued on there. It aint a Ferrari, It a Camaro.. that stuff is going to happen
---------- Post added at 10:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:19 PM ----------
You have to press on the "DR" the "OID" will not make the sound
I have the red one and mine does it when I clean off the back. Just sounds like when you press on somthing glued or taped down. I think there is probably just a layer of glue in there that is sticking and unsticking. I dont think its somthing to be concerned over. It doesnt visibly move and I dont think it would ever fully unstick. It might even go away after the phone heats and cools a few times.
Part of the wireless charging coil is adhered to the back of the case. I suspect that you are hearing some adhesive making weak contact and then snapping away after you release pressure. Like a touching a piece of packing tape on a smooth surface and then pulling it off.
Mine is making the sound on the droid logo at the bottom. I'm just gunna go into the store and have them replace it. A customer should be 100% satisfied. It absolutely warrants an exchange if you are still in the 14 day return period. I'll go into Verizon tomorrow and let you guys know if they exchange my device.

mine does it too. i may have started the whole online chatter about this because i was posting about it immediately after i bought mine last week thursday. i took this video and shared it with a motorola rep and they seem to think its a defect, but the guy at the verizon store (who was a total ****) said it was normal.
I have the same noise as well, right when you press on the "DR" like others stated. I also have a similar noise that happens when I pick up the phone; It seems to be focused towards the bottom sides of the phone. This particular issue didn't happen the first few days I had the phone (got it on release day) but I do notice it now. Just a very slight "creak" noise.
I am wondering how the nylon is applied to the back of the phone and how far it tucks in under the soft touch border. Maybe that is just how the nylon is and it may make noise where it meets other materials since it is not completely flat and there is some texture to it.

I agree, but I would be careful. There have been a few horror stories with people trying to exchange devices. You might end up with a much worse problem and Verizon giving you crap for wanting to exchange again.
Here is one case of this http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/general/4-days-3-droid-turbos-journey-verizon-t2929086
It sounds like the ballistic nylon models have a slightly different problem than what I'm hearing with mine, specifically around the droid logo at the bottom. But I know on mine its just a very minor thing that only happens if your pushing around. If its not affecting the operation of the phone or falling apart it might not be worth the hassle.
Had an extra red back cover. Decided to take the risk and see if I could remove the logos. Used 5000 grit wet sand paper (used for headlights) and a lot of patience. And wallah no logo. I made sure to go real light on it so I don't affect the soft touch coating. Turned out way better than I expected. I thought there would actually be some marks left or a change in the texture. But nope, looks and feels the same just no logo
Nice job! Looks great! :good:
That's what I like about the ballistic nylon. No Verizon logos.
Well done. :good:
I can't stand how far Verizon goes with slapping their logo all over. Especially the poor phones that suffer the fate of a Verizon logo under the display.
I saw someone that suggested using clear tape and granulated sugar to remove logos, never tried it, but seems like it could work.

Interesting. Can you elaborate a little? Do you just put the sugar on it and tape it on? And he eats the laser etching away? Lol or do you treat it more like a sandpaper.
Looked like he used it as sandpaper. Sugar was aggressive enough to remove the painted logo, but not harsh enough to damage the plastic.
I don't understand why the Logo is so maddening to some people.

It bothers people because of bad placement and also if u bought the phone out right you should have say on what is on it or not. verizon being the way they are is the reason so many are leaving to go to another provider.

This is my personally reason. Let's say you bought a BMW m5. So you expect the BMW logo. You expect the m5 logo. Now imagine, smack dab in the center of your hood is the dealership you bought the car from logo. Verizon is the dealer. They provide a service I pay for. I don't feel they have the right to advertise on something they didn't build.
And besides all that..I think it looks cleaner.

Exactly!
At least they didn't try this on the turbo! I don't think anything can top the note 2

Ha ha ha. My respects for your bravery!
Hey everyone.. Just stopping in with a quick question. Have been searching for an answer and found this discussion...
I have the Turbo BN 32GB and it has the VZW logo directly above the metal Droid logo on the back.
I have seen quite a few other BN versions without the VZW logo so I'm wondering how I go about removing it?
It appears to be applied to the BN similar to the way an iron-on patch is applied to a shirt. I would say it is certainly removable, just no idea how to attack this project. I obviously do not want to damage the nylon in the process.
The main reasons I am wanting to remove it are I believe the BN backing looks phenomenal without it and I am using a PureGear clear case which puts the BN on prominent and permanent display. Would look so much more slick without the VZW sticker plastered on the back. (Tried including a picture but that is a no-go)
Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!
So, I received my MXP yesterday... In all the joy of playing with the software and updating it, I didn't notice this until this morning? The top speaker grill is sticking up on the right side? It's not loose, but still sticking up. Anyone else have this issues or other QC issues?
I felt funny requesting a replacement for something this minor, but Amazon is sending me one .....But it's gonna take 2 weeks to get it I just don't think my OCD can handle this, so glad it's getting replaced.
Sorry for the blurry pic, I only have a cheap pre-paid phone to take the pic with.
Ooh, yeah I couldn't deal with that either. Seem so Ike's or might be the first to post something like this, so hopefully it's not very common. Glad you're getting a replacement though!
On the Nexus 6 and the 2nd gen Moto X, those grills were removable since they were one of the parts that could be customized in Moto Maker. It may have just popped loose. You should be able to snap it back in. Might take a bit of force, but it should go back in.
Both mine are sticking out they don't seem evenly meaning top vs bottom, I wouldn't worry to much they will prob get pushed in just from being in ur pocket or what ever as long sound still works its all good

Well crap!
I tried snapping it back in (didn't push hard at all) and I heard it snap, took my finger off it and the part fell on the floor. I sat it back in there, but it's really loose now and probably will fall out if I bump it or hit it on my pocket when pulling it out.
The replacement can't get here soon enough
Is that piece plastic or metal?

Also good to hear that Moto seems to be OK with replacing stuff like this. Hope mine comes in looking straight, I can't stand build quality issues like that.
In the mean time, I put a REALLY SMALL drop of super glue on it to hold it in so I don't lose it/doesn't fall out....It's still lop-sided though. Hope this doesn't mess up my return when they get it back!?!?!
