No. You won't receive OTA updates if your phone is rooted.

Rooting have no concern regarding update
Update depends on
Your CSC And installed ROM, if your CSC is set to your region, Your ROM is same as official released version for your region, then you will get update.
BUT
Update with Kies/OTA will erase root.
so forget OTA/Kies, if you want to enjoy your device rooted, you are always safer in hands of XDA, thn kies/OTA. Whenever any update available, you will find it on XDA too.
Here is thread for all stock ROMs

That is the normal phenomenon when you play with flashing N modding without reading N understanding properly.
I had a poll earliear, N nobody was there who have brick device, when they follow instructions to the letter for rooting/updating.
After rooting and installing rocket rom I cannot update google search and a and market.
Otherwise all other apps update.
I wonder why google search app and market app won't upgrade.

1) Should I root or not?
A) The very fact that you asked this question means you should not root.
2) will rooting void warranty?
a) yes.
3) Can I unroot?
a) yes.
4) what are the benefits of rooting?
a) when you want a benefit that your stock phone cannot provide, then you root. so the benefits are on need to know basis.
5) Which is better S3 or GN?
You ask this question on a GN forum?
Read this and do your research before you mess up your phone. Yes, you can root and unroot.

Rooting is not necessarily the problem. The problem will be if you flash a custom ROM you will get a triangle and it will increase your binary counter.
If you flash the ICS official LPY rom with PC Odin it will NOT cause a triangle because it is stock.
Please do your research more before you start flashing things because it sounds like you are very new to android development and I do not want to see you brick your Note.

hahahaha lol... and with long crying wall of text with that style of writing.. my head already got hurt from reading his post
1) start writing correct and full english: this is a forum and not a chat or an sms
2) all your questions are already answered, if you only had searched before posting: new to android does not mean that you are the first that have these problems
3) you are offensive and violent, i reported your post to the board moderators and suggest that others to the same

So I just got a new n7 and im looking to root it. Im new to rooting tablets I hace rooted severl tbolts and am currently waiting on a mathod for the note . But anyway im just wondering witch is the best method to root the n7? It has 4.1.1 on it and keeps asking me to update and just wanna make sure there's a way to root with the new software b4 I update? Like I said I know very lil bout rooting tablets but im sure its not to dif from a phone n sorry for the noob?s and thanks for the help
You can use the nexus 7 toolkit v 3.2.0. It helps you install all the drivers needed. Just use the option number 8 for full rooting and unlock. WARNING Unlocking the bootloader might void your warranty and will wipe all your data. I think this utility is better because it has an easy interface and clear instructions.

its the same thing as rooting phones, just follow the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
its as easy as pressing a button that says unlock and root
Thanks for the replys n does it work for the newer software or should I stay on 4.1.1 to root
It will work with any version. I'd upgrade to 4.1.2 then unlock, root, and flash a rooted 4.2 custom ROM.
The toolkit helps for first timers. Pretty simple process.
Make a backup of all your stuff cause everything will be deleted during the process. I recommend DataSync. It backs up data to Dropbox or Box.net. Does a bunch of other cool stuff.
Getting drivers installed is the big part. After that it just clicks.
I'm using Paranoid Android beta6 cause its 4.2.1 with tablet mode.

hello!
i just got my N4 a few days ago...
didnt even change a ringtone yet... just downloaded some apps, and costumized the phone a-bit.
i do want to root, because some advanced actions such as recording calls (legal in my country) require root.
i was about to root using the Nexus 4 ToolKit posted here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995688
but when i run it it always says its tookit ver v1.3.0, and a 1.6.0 is avilable, i update but when i re-run it, it says its 1.3 again...
and even if i go past this step and get to the "What build do you have?
the only answer i can pic is 4.2 (JOP24C)
and i own JOP24D (2.4.1) - will this be an issue?
and also - if i root my phone, and lets say androud 4.2.2 comes out a day later, does the phone still update? or do i stop getting updates as soon as im rooted?
TY!

If you get the donate version it will update it so that you can do the 4.2.1 build. I think it was like $5. Well worth supporting the dev

alright cool i don't mind paying 5USD...
but what about the most important things?
does rooting 100% erase evetyhing?
Do i keep getting updates to my phone? or when a new version comes out i have to re-root or something?
It will erase EVERYTHING and you would have to go back to stock to get the OTA or wait for a build to be flashable

If the ROM got OTA (over the air) you can update i guess, not really populair with OTA, but you can download 4.2.2 stock ROM or custom ROM when it comes out.

Why don't you unlock and root using fastboot. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018179

if i root now, at 4.2.1, the above will not happen? meaning in order to update to 4.3 i will have to lose all my data again?

If you are only rooted and having modified any system files you can OTA successfully.

ashamed to say i didnt really get it.. lol.
you said OTA is "Over the Air", right?
so if i rooted at 4.2.1 (just rooted, no rom or anything), and 4.3 came out do i
1. Have to delete everything AGAIN and re-root on 4.3 to get the update
2. have to find the 4.3 file online and install it somehow
3. do nothing, the phone automatically gets updated
ty =)

Getting root on your device does not delete anything. What deletes everything is unlocking the bootloader (which, at the present time, is required to obtain root). You only have to unlock the bootloader once. Once it is unlocked, getting root is trivial.
Every time you receive an over-the-air update, it will remove your root access, BUT, as I mentioned earlier, getting it back is trivial when your bootloader is unlocked.

Have you read the stickies in the General and Q&A sections? There is a couple of stickies by me in the General section (the "Basics" and "Root" links in my signature), and there is also a sticky by Jubakuba in the Q&A section.

The easiest way is to wait for the OTA notification to appear on your device. Then just accept it, and then root again.
I've written up something for the Galaxy Nexus (sticky in the GNex General section), but nothing yet for the N4. The basic premise (and most of the commands) are the same. You can browse through it for some background info.
Hello everyone,
I just got me new AT&T S4 today, connected to wifi, and update installed on my phone. So now I'm on 4.3 mk2. Is there a way that I can still root, install cwm, and so forth? I tried factory reset and still ended on the same 4.3 mk2.
Thanks in advance, and I can't wait for root, root, root. Otherwise this phone will be for sale. Sad

There's already an answer to this question. I don't want to come off as rude but you need to search first. The answer is root is attainable but not through any means here on XDA. also no CWM and so forth on MK2.
That was nicer than I could have said it.
