Hey all
I had rooted my phone and installed CM
While i was doing my rooting process. After downgrading to 1.3 i checked the system updates to check if any OTA updates are available ...
Did any one tried unrooting using the method described here
and still the OTA update is working ... ??
I just need to confirm that the above process is working ....
so no one tried unrooting... ?
brother yesterday i unrooted my mobile to 1.31 ROM ........but update is not working.....i downloaded the ROM from shipped ROM.....i finally come into conclusion that all the Roms in shipped ROM is baned by htc......

Not true, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=800588
1.31.405.5 however do in fact have no OTA update
Edit: How come your signature isn't actually in the signature section??
Any one tried that?

I have posted a link for unrooted Rom and how to use it.. look in "Legend General"
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
can u give me the link .. i tried searching but nothing found ..
first give me your software number and your buildnumber !
I am guessing this might be coming from someone once it's released, but it's been a while since I played with my phone and I'm not that tech savy on the latest on these as things are constantly moving/changing.
I'm running a 2.2 Custom ROM and would like to upgrade to the stock generic 2.3 GB once it's released and I have no clue as to the best way to do this. So once it's out, if we can get a decent step by step how to, that would be great.
Thank you.
i would say use the flashtool thread in the dev section, flash a world generic rom and the corresponding baseband. don't root it or anything like that.
sign in, then connect to pc companion and see if the update hits.
Flash stock 2.1 firmware
update your x10 thru SE software
ensure your phone is rooted and xrecovery installed then wait for pre-rooted gb update to come out on here. It will be almost certainly simply bea case of flashing kernal and baseband using flashtool and custom update using xrecovery.
i certainly would not recommend flashing your phone back to stock 2.1 roms at this point in time - if you update to stock gingerbread then rooting may become more tricky and you may well have to go back to 2.1 rooted before you can get a rooted gingerbread - we simply dont know what security fixes will be included in the gingerbread update - so we dont know how easy it will be to root it once you have updated to stock 2.3
step 1. wait for the rom to launch
step 2. go to the gingerbread thread and read!!
step 3. read before posting the same question that's been asked thousands of times already!!
Do you guys know 2.3 update is out?

I'm going for this route as well, wait for a flashtools rootable 2.3. But i don't think it will take much long, the x10 gingerbread rom is based on the one SE worked for the Arc and that was rooted pretty quickly, no?
For those still with stock 2.1 i can understand all the excitement, but for me, i've been using a custom rom with basically the same UI and features for a while, I can wait a little longer.
They were only able to root arc/play/neo 2.3.2 they are still working on a way to root 2.3.3 so far no luck.

If you are referring to using an easy one-click method to root, then yes you are correct.
But there are other ways to achieve root on 2.3.3 which involves flashing.

Yeah, I was reading the post 2 above this one swearing & shaking my fists, because I'm running j's 2.3.3 rooted rom right now....2.3.3 can be rooted, it's just gonna be a little while before it's a one-click. That's always how it goes
Now that arc, neo, play & x10 are all gonna be 2.3.3, maybe it'll get the ball rolling a little faster on one-click solutions. We do have the largest Xperia dev community in the X10 section, afterall

maybe, but only with an unrooted, unbranded generic 2.1 rom SE says to use PCC, which means it will most likely be available for SEUS, too (IIRC, they use the exact same database for the rom updates)
Good info so far. I might sell my phone (or lend it to a friend) and it would obviously sell best with an OEM 2.3 unlocked ROM which is assumingly bug-free for the most part.
So SEUS looks at what is currently on the phone and repairs it to that?

is this the official stock UK 2.3.3 rom?
check the dev section, everyone
doomlord uploaded a flashable pre-rooted GB, not as easy as one-click-root but it's here
Look at the following description and choose the right one.
(1) Flash back to stock rom and stock recovery via easy unroot.
(2) Re-root via nachoroot
(3) Install OTA rootkeeper.
(4) Wait for ICS. Call in sick everyday if you have to. Keep mashing the check for update button.
That seems like a lot of pain when the devs are certain to adopt the ICS Asus rom as base to their custom roms.

Because if you rooted via nvflash then you won't be able to do an OTA update even if you have ota rootkeeper. Trust me, I've already tried it all.

Well sure. That might be. But that will take time.
Some people want the ICS update the very second it is out. Reverting to stock allows them to get it the second it is out without waiting for ROM developers to update and retweak their ROMs for a new major Android-version, a process which most likely will take some time.
Besides. I like to know how the stock experience is before going for something different. If stock is good enough, I see no reason to rely on custom ROMs.

I'm confused as to why anyone would say that. OTA updates from asus are implimented through the stock recovery.

The OTA update will not automatically install if CWM is installed like it is the case on a completely stock TF.
Therefore some people adjust the OTA update (remove recovery and add root) and publish this so you can install this with CWM. See developer forum.
The original OTA update also include recovery update (where CWM is installed) and remove root. You can use OTA rootkeeper to avoid loosing root.
Summary:
- root with stock rom and stock recovery will allow OTA update from Asus but you loose root; use OTA rootkeeper to avoid loosing root
- root with stock rom and CWM recovery will not allow OTA update from Asus; use adjusted OTA update and install with CWM (keeps root and CWM)
- custom rom, then no OTA update possible; just wait for update of developer custom rom

Well, stock has gone a long way from back in May. Back then, I went with custom roms because they were more stable and smoother to work with. Recently, I flashed back to stock and have been using it daily. Could not tell the difference between stock and custom rom anymore. Asus, or google, has done a good job at stabilizing and improving the original stock rom.
When ICS comes out, I will at first use stock. Then I will try out custom ICS roms. I'll evaluate them on a regular day to day usage. I don't care much for all the tests that people do. I'm a realistic guy. I believe in reality.

Sorry that just made me laugh. A stock rom being good enough would mean no need for custom roms and so far, not one single device has had one. Not even vanilla rom's from Google themselves.
why go to all this hassle, when its out the devs will release a stock rom that doesnt remove root, then with in about 24/48 hrs dev tweaked roms will appear

i just got my N4 a few days ago...

but when i run it it always says its tookit ver v1.3.0, and a 1.6.0 is avilable, i update but when i re-run it, it says its 1.3 again...
and even if i go past this step and get to the "What build do you have?
the only answer i can pic is 4.2 (JOP24C)
and i own JOP24D (2.4.1) - will this be an issue?
and also - if i root my phone, and lets say androud 4.2.2 comes out a day later, does the phone still update? or do i stop getting updates as soon as im rooted?

but what about the most important things?
does rooting 100% erase evetyhing?
Do i keep getting updates to my phone? or when a new version comes out i have to re-root or something?
It will erase EVERYTHING and you would have to go back to stock to get the OTA or wait for a build to be flashable

you said OTA is "Over the Air", right?
so if i rooted at 4.2.1 (just rooted, no rom or anything), and 4.3 came out do i
1. Have to delete everything AGAIN and re-root on 4.3 to get the update
2. have to find the 4.3 file online and install it somehow
3. do nothing, the phone automatically gets updated

Getting root on your device does not delete anything. What deletes everything is unlocking the bootloader (which, at the present time, is required to obtain root). You only have to unlock the bootloader once. Once it is unlocked, getting root is trivial.
Every time you receive an over-the-air update, it will remove your root access, BUT, as I mentioned earlier, getting it back is trivial when your bootloader is unlocked.

The easiest way is to wait for the OTA notification to appear on your device. Then just accept it, and then root again.
I've written up something for the Galaxy Nexus (sticky in the GNex General section), but nothing yet for the N4. The basic premise (and most of the commands) are the same. You can browse through it for some background info.

well, it seems to update most apps by a little bit, but what the updates are i am not sure. The thing thats confusing me is that the date stamps are all "wrong". this is dated for september 1st 2008, but if it was new it would be 2014 or similar. best guess is that this was an update for your old rom that you never got before you flashed a custom rom but i dont think its "new" as such. If you wanted to flash it you would need to flash the stock recovery from a ruu as i suspect it wont be compatiable with our edify recovery versions.
