[Q] How do you delete nandroid backups? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use CWM recovery and when I go to the restore option I see that I have 4 different backups. When I go to delete these in a file manager or while hooked up to windows I cannot see the clockworkmod > backups folder at all. Anyone know how to get to this folder? I think the file system is messed up.
Edit: I found it finally, thanks to DowntownJeffBrown. It is in the data/media/clockworkmod folder if anyone is wondering.

They are in:
/mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup
You'll need rootexplorer or something so that you can view the filesstem

backup question

hello everyone,
i got a lot of backups made with CWM. but i dont know which one is which android version, so i want to name them now, but is there anyway to find that out without flashing all of them?
thanks in advance.
i think you will have to flash them all and dont rename them cause you will have md5 missmatch
Sent from my LG-GT540 using XDA
You can extract system.img one by one and chack build.prop, and about renaming, rom manager can rename cwm backup.
i cant rename them? well thats annoying.... guess ill have to keep track of which is which android version on my pc
Heres a tip. Dont directly rename the folders. However just create a folder like "Swiftdroid asis" and then put the clockworkmod backup folder thingy into it so it looks like
C:\Users\Jun Hui\Desktop\CWM backups\Swiftdroid Asis\2012-03-08.00.59.44
Red shows that its on my desktop
Green shows that this folder contains CWM backups
Blue shows that its a Swiftdroid Asis backup
Black finally shows that this backup was from this date (dont change this date and times as they will have errors later!)
and i can use the same system when i just leave them on my sd card?

Deleting CWM backups without CWM

I want to delete a few backups I did with CWM but I tried navigating to the location with ES File epxlorer and nothing. They are not saved to the 0\
Would another file manager do the trick? Astro?
You can't just manually delete 1 or 2 CWR backups anymore. You need the app to delete, then the next time it does a backup it will cleanup all the files. The new method CWR uses is to store all the files in one folder as blobs, so there isn't duplicate data. Then in the individual backup folders is probably just a few files that point to the blob files that pertain to that backup.
I know that doesn't answer your question as to where the files are in your file explorer app. But if you just want to delete select backups you're wasting your time for the above reasons. Just use that app if that's your goal.
Backups are saved in /data/media/clockworkmod, you can also set in recovery the way you want it to backup, the original way or the new blobs way.
And change the folder to copy the backup easier to the pc?

[Q] How to make EFS backup easily, without TWRP?

I've been lucky not to lose my EFS data so far. But now I really need to back that up.
I've been reading about problems with TWRP, and I allready have CWM, which I really like.
Is there an easy "noobproof" way to make EFS backup?
For Samsung, there is EFS Professional but I don't know if it works with LG G2.
Another way I found is from another Samsung thread: Backup your EFS IMMEDIATELY, but same thing, I don't know if that'll work with G2
Any help, anyone?

I was thinking, I'd install TWRP through goomanager, make EFS backup and go back to CWM.
But if something happens, I should have TWRP installed to restore EFS?

CWM backs them up. The problem is, they only seem accessible/viewable in CWM. I can not get to the folder in a file explorerexplorer, yet can see them in CWM.....?

What I've been reading, CWM doesn't backup EFS.
Where did you read it does?

I used the zips, and did it in CWM. The folders are present and viewable in recovery, not upon boot. They are created before emulation/0 in CWM. I'm gonna go check if I can somehow move them in CWM... and check files. I'll be back.
Edit: Use the one that makes the zip. CWM shows it created and there, but I can not access it past this to verify it and or it it works and is correct. I am not going to flash it and take that risk.

I used the efsbackup zips in CWM.
I initially encountered the same problem with not being able to find the files. From memory I was able to get to the by using a file browser with root capabilities (in my case solid explorer) go back to the root directory then Data\Media. In there I found my efs backup files as well as my CWM nandroid backup.

The zip and individual files are there in their respective folders, as well other backup data. You sir, are my hero of the day.
The zip method is extremely smaller than individual files...

That's great news, glad I could help!
I've been wanting to post it in the development thread as a few people had asked something similar but unfortunately I don't meet the post count requirements to help them out!
I quoted your post over there.
I'm not able to move "EFS_backup" anywhere. I try, but moved folder stays empty. It shows "efsbackupflashable.zip", "efs1.img" and "efs2.img"
But they all are 0kb.
I found EFS_backup from data/media, all 3mb large.
Whit root explorer, I copied Efs_backup folder, to another folder in my sdcard, with root explorer I can see it there, but I cant copy it or to my computer.
How do I get it to safe place???
The other zip works too for individual files. I used ZArchiver to zip them up. Sent a copy to my PC with ES File Explorer over lan and uploaded another copy to Google Drive. You should be able to grab anything from SD to PC when plugged in USB. I replaced su with SuperSU a while ago. Actually get prompt permissions now. The OG SU on this phone with root method didn't play well. Also, make sure you show hidden files, PC and Phone explorer.

Thanks!! Via Root Explorer I emailed this for me and uploaded to Google drive. Size looks fine.
Now i have my EFS backup and I can continue my search for best ROM for me!
sorry for being dumb but do i use the zip from EFS Partition Backup and More [All G2 Variants] *Fixed* link and just flash it in cwm for the efs backup
Yes
And what if I just root my g2, download ES-Explorer then go to the root of the internal and just copy and paste the efs folder?
Shouldn't that work too?

[Q] titanium backup

No matter what I do after flashing a ROM, I can't get TiBu to restore any app/data. After flashing the new ROM, I download TiBu from App Store and then hit menu then batch, go down to restore missing apps/missing apps+data but it shows NO apps or data as in zilch, nothing nada as if I have no apps backed up.
I know I have been using TiBu to back up my apps on a daily basis-blah blah blah. What gives?
I have tried to restore from a nandroid I made right before flashing the new ROM but it just hangs on analyzing data from backup???
Could it be folder issue? Open "menu" in TiBu, "preferences", scroll to "backup folder location", select "detect" and choose "whole device" and see what it comes back with.

I hope you were having TB back up to your external sdcard, if you weren't then when you factory reset you lose your backup. By default TB backs up to the internal sdcard and you have to set external in the preferences section.
Nope its definitely storing on the SD card, I know exactly where the folder and all the files are at. I can see the latest backup files in there.

Use preference to search for backup folder location (as mentioned) select the folder where your files actually are (ExternaSD).
Then go into batch and Run Verify all your backups. That should get them to show up correctly

It shows 0 for number of backups to verify. TiBu seems to not be very user friendly, especially for a noob. Very frustrating to say the least, I hate having to log in to every single application all over again, then rearrange my icons and desktop/screen.
It isn't as if I went from one ROM to a completely different ROM, I went from TriForce 5.0 to 5.2.

Open Titanium to search the entire phone for the backup directory.
If that doesnt find the directory specify it.
By default it looks at internal sd. You need it to look at the ExternalSd.
go into Titanium Backup
click your menu button
select preferences
scroll to Backup Location folder
click your back button on the phone and stop at the /storage folder
there you will see "extSdCard" and "sdcard0" under it.
select ExtSdCard
Then choose 'Use Current folder' IF it shows you backups in there.
It appears you are NOT finding the right folder.
[Now it is possible you backed up to the internal or some other folder I don't know but that should get you started.]
and HOPEFULLY you'll find your Titanium backup folder.

Yes it has found the folder on my extSDCard, it has some 432 backups in there(i believe individual files not backups) it for some reason doesn't restore my apps or data.

Try this Uninstall Titanium (and the Pro license) via apps manager.
Reboot to recovery and delete dalvik and cache then reboot.
Go into playstore and re-install TI and the Pro key then reboot the phone.
Then open TIb and you should be prompted for SU permissions; grant them. Then go to preferences>backup folder location and have it search the whole phone again. then when/if it finds the folder select it.
Then see how that goes - try and 'reverify all backups'. If it finds them you should be good to go.
There is also the 'Problems' button when you open the app which has some suggestions too.

Ok, standby, I'll do that right now. TIA
Oh and go to the Backup and restore tab, then 'search' and make sure you check on 'clear filters'!!
That will cause nothing to show up!

I've just done all that, I have a screen shot but have never uploaded a screenshot to the forum so I don't know how to do that. I know that may get us a little off topic for a bit but at least I could show you exactly what I'm encountering on my end.

That's exactly what mine looked like before and after I clicked on "click to edit filters" and then hit "clear" up at the top...essentially I didn't have any filters from the get go.
First on the filters make sure your's is checked like my pick above. If you've haven't selected anything nothing will show.
then if it doesn't work...
another crazy thing to try.
Create another Titanium folder using file explorer (myfiles or whatever) - Maybe named 'Titanium2' or something on the ExternalSD.
Open TiB >preferences>Select backup folder location.
Then navigate to the new folder (empty one you just created) and then 'Use Current folder'.
Then create a full backup (in batch>backup all user data and apps..).
After that is done go back to preferences>backup folder location and have the app search entire device.
Then see if your 'Real' backup folder location shows up. select it. Then see if you can restore.

Yes all of the filters are exactly as yours before and after clearing all the filters. I would post a screenshot but don't know how to do that. I even went one step further and downloaded the xda app instead of using the tapatalk app, that way I could hopefully mimic you more easily if possible.
Cool.
I have to sign off, got an east cost conf. call I have to be up for in a couple hours.
Please post screen caps of what your stuff looks like and I'll jump back in as soon as I can in the morning.

DING DING DING!!!! There is your problem! You never made a backup with Titanium Backup. The folder you are point to is the TWRP recovery nandroid backup file not the TB backup file. Your backups should be in this folder: /storage/extsdcard/titaniumbackup.
Now the pro TB version has the ability to extract backups from a nandroid backup. Load TB, select menu, scroll down to special backup/restore, and look for extract from nandroid. Good luck.

Thanks cruise350! I didn't see the twrp!!
That'll be the problem.
All the other things I suggest are solutions that have worked for me over the past few years when you actually do have the problem of TiB backups not showing - the filters things is the biggest, happened all the time with my E4GT and S3.
Hopefully he'll get it sorted out.

[Q] Clockworkmod Backup Location Change?

Hey everyone,
I'm using CWM recovery.
When I make a nandroid backup, it gets saved to /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod.
Is there a way to change this folder location? I would like it to be in sdcard0 so I can access it over USB easily. I know I can use ADB to pull from the existing location, but its more convenient to just plug in a USB cable and be good to go.
It used to be sdcard0 earlier, I'm not sure what changed it exactly. I think it happened when I installed ROM manager. I've uninstalled it since then.
Anyone?

since 4.2.2, backup is located there (or in data/media)
you can copy it to sdcard0 with a root explorer.
but dont move it from its original directory, to be able to restore it.
