backup question - GT540 Optimus General

hello everyone,
i got a lot of backups made with CWM. but i dont know which one is which android version, so i want to name them now, but is there anyway to find that out without flashing all of them?
thanks in advance.

i think you will have to flash them all and dont rename them cause you will have md5 missmatch
Sent from my LG-GT540 using XDA

You can extract system.img one by one and chack build.prop, and about renaming, rom manager can rename cwm backup.

i cant rename them? well thats annoying.... guess ill have to keep track of which is which android version on my pc

Heres a tip. Dont directly rename the folders. However just create a folder like "Swiftdroid asis" and then put the clockworkmod backup folder thingy into it so it looks like
C:\Users\Jun Hui\Desktop\CWM backups\Swiftdroid Asis\2012-03-08.00.59.44
Red shows that its on my desktop
Green shows that this folder contains CWM backups
Blue shows that its a Swiftdroid Asis backup
Black finally shows that this backup was from this date (dont change this date and times as they will have errors later!)

and i can use the same system when i just leave them on my sd card?

If You have installed Clockwork recovery.
Then u can backup ur entire rom.
For this boot into recovery then go to Backup and restore and select back up.
after completing all procedure reboot ur device.
Connect your device in PC through USB (Storage)
Go to clockworkmod folder\backup
u can see the file with the date name....copy it to ur PC folder and you r done.
Press help if I helped you....
Ok ihave cwd.Just if later something go wrong,i must install cwd again copy cotest of backup folder and restore? What this chieftec 450w backup?complate rom,os,settings?Example if i have another rom can i with this metod restore to this rom what i backuo it?
a nandroid back up takes an exact image of the whole phone. system, data, apps, contacts, everything. its then placed in the clockworkmod folder on the sd card.
when you restore the backup it will bring the phone back to the exact state it was in when you did the back up.
and as far as i know you cant just select parts of it. its all or none. also i think if you rename it it might mess up the m5d sum but dont quote me on it
I did it from boot menu.Turn on + volume down backup and restore, backup and thet is it,i just go to look where is file and save to my PC.
I use rom manager to rename the backups, and never had a problem.
Also you can extract things from nandroids, apps, data, sms settings etc with an app called app extractor, it's in the market and there's a thread on xda for it somewhere.

Lol,I happened to test the naming of nandroid last night and I used es file manager to name my nandroid "test(with original date name) and it worked perfect. I need to have little reminders of which backup is which nowadays.
" once its gone,its GONE."
Me too, I currently have 5 nandroids and 4 bootable roms in my boot manager folder, so glad I bought that 16gb card!

[Q] Could I install a new ROM, then return to my old backed up ROM?

I have a rooted Nexus 7 running the ROM aokp_grouper_jb_build-5. If I backed up this ROM in Clockworkmod recovery, then installed a new ROM, would I be able to restore back to my AOKP ROM if I didn't like the new ROM I installed?
Yep
It's not a problem. You can back up your new ROM too. Be sure to put something in the name of your backups to let you know which ROM it is. I usually leave the date & then put the ROM name in, such as 2012-10-28-AOKP.
No problem at all

When I back up my ROM it doesn't let me choose a name for the backup. How can I change the name of the backup?
I use TWRP and you have to set the name of the backup before you start the backup process

Just use your file explorer to find the file & rename it. If you are using Clockwork, there will be a folder on your sdcard called clockwork, and in that is a folder called backups. your backup file is in there, named something like 2012-10-28.12.10.3242, which is the date & time of the backup.

Pimp my rom rescue

I've looked all over but can't find a rescue.zip for pimp my rom. I didn't mess my device up, I just want a backup in case. There IS one in my SD card but it won't flash.
So, does anyone have a working rescue.zip?
(YES, I know I'm an idiot for not backing it up)
Why don't you just make a backup in TWRP or CWM?

Because I need to have it as it was, which I don't
So I need someone with an unpimped nexus 7 to download it, back up a rescue package and upload it here so I can download it.
Make a backup of your current ROM.
Install the factory ROM and root it.
Make a backup of that.
Restore your current ROM from the backup in the first step.
Get a copy of both of 'em off the tablet someplace safe.
Easy-peasy.

The rescue pack is not avaliable at the moment. It will be very simple to fix problems by that way, but the pimpmyrom apk has a button to revert changes but doesnt work if you fail in a bootloop.

Pimp my rom beta rescue package
Hey now,
Go to this link & download the rescue package I tweaked. Make sure you create a Rescue zip using the Pimp My Rom Beta.apk (Thanks to Androguide. You Rock Dude) and name that one Resuce(1).zip. Extract my Rescue.zip and make sure you switch the build.props out (You can add whatever build.prop mod you want to it) by Opening the Rescue(1).zip and dragging the file to the extracted Rescue.zip. Make sure you open the rm.sh and change the scripts that correspond to your init.d folder using notepad. Last thing go into sys/cpu/scaling_freq and change those numbers to your numbers or you can deleted that folder all together just make sure you delete (extract sys/cpu.....) out of the updater script. Rezip it and it's ready to flash. Hope that didn't confuse you. Yeah you right!

Huawei is weird

Ok so I used superoneclick to root my ladies u8800-51. Wow simple as ever coming from HTC let me say. Going to install the CWM recovery.img to it, screen was purple/Red. I accidentally renamed the folder that was there instead of just the original recovery image. So questions... What was the folders original name? now no recovery is coming up just a blue screen.. HElp me get her phone going again so i can flash some ROMS
The recovery.img is in .cust_backup\image at least in my u8800

So it having different colors n not going into recovery might b an issue right ? I might have not done something right even though I read instructions 4x n all. Lol my girl is now complaining she can't play candy crush either on it. Like I said huawei is odd n weird to me.

You had overwrite file recovery.img, no rename the folder. You are weird, no Huawei.
Now you have bricked phone.
You can try connect phone in bluescreen to pc, maybe you can see partitions.
If your phone is still visible as usb mass storage, rename the folder to "image". There will be only one folder in that partition.

You just haven't the recovery mode(for this the blue image). This doesn't mean that the phone isn't rooted. There are 2 separate things. You can use a file explorer with root option(e.g ES file explorer), to go the the "image" folder in which are all the system images(recovery.img, boot.img etc). The path is /.cust_backup/image and in this folder you will find the recovery.img. Probably this image haven't a different name or extension. It must be recovery.img, otherwise the system doesn't recognize it. To make changes in this folder you must previously mount it as Read/Write(is Read only by default). For this you can use Remount application(you can find it on google play), and then you can from ES file explorer(or any other root file manager) to rename the file or replace and whatever you want.
This is one from several ways. You can also boot again in pink screen mode and do these changes(without the need of remounting) from pc file explorer. You can also do something similar as the first way from pc via adb.

No...
Just hold +/- plus power buttons when the phone is off
Connect to computer and drag recovery.img to the folder
if it asks, overwrite.
Out of curiousity, what guide are you following?

Always store your backup file in a computer right after backing up, never just assume that you won't lose it after installing a new ROM.
Like JJEgan said, always backup using recovery.
I would just keep looking in your files (maybe you moved the file...?) or just plain leave it for dead.
A fresh start is sometimes the way to go
