[Q] Nexus 7 is suddenly very slowly charged - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My 3 months old Nexus 7 initially used around 3-5 hours to fully charged which is not that fast as it should be but acceptable. I use Battery Monitoring Widget (3c) and it showed that N7 was charged at around 500-1,300 mA per hour.
However, 3 days ago, my N7 was suddenly very very slowly charged. It took more than 8 hours to fully charged from just 50%. The app shows it is now charged at around 200-300 mA per hour which may take up to 20 hours to get fully charged from 0%!!! Until then, it keep charging at this speed for more than 4-5 cycles.
I did a factory reset and the problem persist.
I don't think it is because the charger/cable since I try them with other device and have no problem.
It has nothing to do with Android version since my N7 is never rooted and has been update to 4.2.1 since it came out.
I am thinking of sending it to service center. but I am very curious why it can happen.
Any idea why???

Could be some dust or lint in the micro-usb port, or the battery connector not fully seated. Both easily remedied.

I have noticed it charges slower when Daydream is enabled. Also charging from usb ports or from the non asus charger will be slower. I have a third party dock also and I noticed despite charging, if streaming music, the nexus 7 will only charge 4-5% in 2-3 hours.
Were you using the Asus charger or another charger? Were there apps running in the background you were not aware of?

Hi! I've recently experienced this. I've been using my 32GB N7 for 2 months now and everything works great. Until recently that I noticed that it charged so slowly. I plugged it last time for about 2 hours from 45% and when I got back it was still at 55%!!! I was shocked and worried. I thought maybe it was the charger, but I tried different chargers and even the one came with it, it still charges very slow. The last changes I did (but not sure if it contributed) was I changed the date and time on the settings several times in a day. Now I'm tempted to hard reset it but realized that it doesn't support mem card expansion.
Anyway, sir TS, have you solved this problem already?

Average charge time?

How long is it taking you guys to charge your N7? At first I had the sleep of death and once it finally turned on after a slight charge, it stays at charging 0% for quite some time now. But before that, it always seemed to slow charge.

No idea. I plug it in when I go to bed and it's good to go the next day...lasts me the whole day. I also don't know how many licks it takes to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop.
At I/O they said the tablet takes about 3 hours to charge from 0-100% but it may be faster. Whenever I get the 15% alert I throw it on the charger for about an hour and it's past 50%
charge times will vary depending on the charger as well, best charge time will occur from the wall charger that came with it, USB trickle charge will take a month of sundays
that is of course unless you have a magical USB controller that outputs 2A from each port (highly unlikely)
I wonder if its something wrong with my battery. Been on charger for more than three hours and nowhere near 100%. It was at maybe 48%. Drainage seems reasonable..its just the charge seems rather long to reach full charge. This is all from using the stock charger too...

Typically 3 to 4 hours for me using OEM charger
Via my HTC Rezound
Between 2-3 hours on charger, around 7-9 hours on usb.
My battery app says 3 hours and 40 minutes on average. That includes charge times when I am using it at the same time so I guess about 3 hours.

I don't know what happened, but with me, when I first got it it was 3 hours on the dot to a full charge. Then one day it said it needed to be plugged in to charge getting below 14%. Then I plugged it in and got the sleep of death, and plugged it in the wall and the battery icon came up, then I turned it on. Now it's been charging for about 6 hours and its only 85% :crying:
Mines generally around 40% at the end of the day, it takes less than 2 hours to get to fully charged.
Mine takes about 3.5 hours but I noticed my 10 foot micro USB cable doesn't charge fast at all. Takes about 12 hours on my 10 foot cable
Yeah I'm with the rest, mine's in the 2.5 - 3.5 range. But as stated, which charger you use makes a huge difference. Charging off the computer (USB to PC) is waaaay slow. Using the OEM wall-charger is what should give you 2.5 - 3.5.
3-4 hours for me depending on what percent I wait till, usually 5-15% battery, haven't tried with anything other than the OEM charger though.
From about 10% ie when the warning to charge came up, to 100%, took mine about 2-3 hours only last night using the supplied charger. Much longer on USB, haven't timed that.
Should I get mine exchanged ? I'm still within the 14 day policy of Mac mall. Its been an hour and its only 14%. Usually it takes 3-4+ to charge fully.

Make sure you're using the supplied charger. I believe the ones for smartphones charge at a different rate? I made the same mistake when I first got my Nexus 7 by charging it with my SGSII charger. It was VERY slow. Then I switched back to the supplied charger and everything was normal.
Usually takes me just 2 hours, and it is full. I usually start charging at around 15%. Using OEM Charger too. :good:
I used my Gnote charger but left it overnight (about 5hrs). I'd say that normally it takes around 3 hours. The battery life is awesome I have to say.

I found this while searching for an answer, my Nexus has been taking 12-15 hours to charge fully, using the factory charger. I also tried my powered USB hub (using a charging port, rated at 1.5 amp), and my Galaxy Nexus charger, same thing. Called Google today and they said it's the device, and I need to return it. Luckily I bought it locally, so I can just exchange it at the store.

charge times?

i ran the battery dead and put the phone on charge from 11.30pm when i went to bed at 1.40am it was only 85ish% charged =\
i did not use the phone when it was charging, had wifi on and im running dark jelly n4 version 7 at the time
so what are the standard charge time for this phone?
i am also using lg charger that came with the phone and its plugged into the wall.

It takes me about 2.5 hours to 3 hours for fully charged. It depends on amperage/voltage.
yeah. mine took about 3 hours++ as well. Initially, i got enabled the Live wallpaper, it took me ages (nearly 5-6 hours) to get 100%. The live wallpaper also draining my battery super fast. So i got fed up and disable the live wallpaper, it seems charging time is shorter and battery life is dramatically increase from 14 hours to 20 hours++.
takes me about 3 hours to charge wired, and about 3.5-4 hours to fully charge on Qi

[Q] Nexus 4 Charge time

Hello Experts,
I received a new nexus 4 and noticed that it takes around 3.5 to 4 hrs for complete charging from 5% to 100%.... is it normal? my other sony xperia seems to be charge in about 1..5 hr
since i am new to Nexus 4, not sure what is the avg charge time and should i call for RMA? Please let me know what is the avg time for charging.
thx
Ganu
Perfectly normal. You want a nice slow steady charge, especially in a sealed phone. The battery needs to last as long as possible. Fast charging batteries significantly reduces their lifespan. My old Nexus S takes the same amount of time to charge from 5%.. 3-4hrs or so give or take.. I still have the two year old original battery and it holds a charge just as well as it did the day I bought it. Meanwhile my 15 minute charge AA batteries I bought last year lose their charge in a week just sitting on the desk.
Mine is just about the same, but that's under use. If I don't touch the phone, it typically charges to 100% in about an hour.
And if it's through USB.. um.. more like 8 hours to fully charge.
Battery widget reborn (awesome app btw) says my phone usually charges in about 2.5 hours. This is on Qi though not sure about the regular wall charger.
2-2.5 hours for me on usb wall charger and Qi Orb.

From 2 hr 45 min (from around 12-15% juice left), my charge time has reached to 3 hr 30 mins now (i.e. from 1% juice left)... 14% juice wouldn't make such a huge difference so don't really know why it increased..

yes, this is one of the reasons i started this thread to understand what everyone is experiencing.... i called up the google customer support and they are ready to send in a RMA as it appears to be a higher side...
so let me know your thoughts guys...should 3.5 hrs charge time considered high and warrant a RMA? share your thoughts.
^ Hmmm.. I doubt if this would mean anything serious or worth RMA-ing. I can but I won't RMA my device because it's been exceptional so far. I am fairly happy with it and wouldn't want to get it replaced with a defected one.
Its perfectly normal especially from around 5% to 100%.. In my experience if you dont let it get below 20% it usually charges faster. I wouldnt RMA it especially if your phone is perfectly fine in other aspects.
I tried with a different charger yesterday and it took similar time. The charger has same voltage input levels.
You charge 3 hours, for only double the lifetime. How pathetic, actually. I didn't thought that the battery life would be that bad. I can hardly make trough 1 day, if I play some games, make some calls, and use a little bit of internet. On the last charge I got 4Hours of screen on time with 15% left.
Gosh, at least it's fun to use it. :/

Doubts On Turbo Charging and Battery Life on the MOTO X FORCE

Hey Folks...
I had bought the Droid turbo 2.. or MOTO X Force as known in India 2 days back.
The first time I charged the Phone - Switched it off - Connected the turbocharger ( that comes along with the Device) it took me approximately 1.30 - 2 Hours to full charge it from 5% to 100% .. It did show turbo charging on the screen.
What was strange is next instance I plugged it in at 35% it took 1 hour and charged only up to 65%. This charging was done with the phone ON unlike the first charge where I had switched it OFF. It took about 2-3 hrs to full charge the device. Though it did show turbo charging when plugging in.
I felt this was strange. I again did a charge yesterday where it took 3 hrs to charge from 27% to 65% though it showed turbo charging.
In the night I switched the device off at 28% and plugged it in.. it was fully charged in probably 1-1.10 hrs max.
Am I to understand that the phone actually turbo charges only when switched off?
I have read in a couple of places that beyond 80% it charges at the normal rate. But I noticed this slow charge way before that Threshold.
Also I get a screen ontime of roughly 4.30 to 5.30 as of now.
also I noticed that last night when I went to sleep I had switched the WIFI off and Data, But I woke upto a 8% drop in the battery.
Could you guys share your thoughts and experience with the device.
This turbo charging issue is it the device or the Charger which is at fault here? I will need to replace if any of them are at fault.
Also what is the average SOT you guys get? and does your device hit temperatures of 45 deg C?
Do help out..
Thank you in Advance.
BUMP...
Mine will turbocharge regardless if it's on or off. Start with trying another charger since it's the cheaper option.

Quick charge gone

Last few days I've noticed my 6P is not quick charging. I used to be able to charge from 15% or lower to full in under an hour. Now it takes 2hrs+ to charge from any %. Today it told me it would take 2 hours to charge from 45%! WTF!? I didn't change any settings and have not flashed a new room or anything since I'm stock not rooted. I am on the O preview but I've been on it for months and this just started happening. Any help would be appreciated, tia
I'd probably try unenrolling from the beta and reverting to 7.1.2

Taking a long time to charge and not rapid charging are two different things. Does your display say "Charging rapidly"? I assume you are using the same stock USB-C to USB-C cable and charger that came with the phone. If you install Accubattery you will be able to monitor two important things: 1) charging rate in mA- the charging rate will confirm (or not) you are charging close to 3 Amps when your battery is discharged below 20% . I usually see ~2.7 A, but only when when fully discharged. -and- 2) your estimated battery capacity. In short, when your battery starts to take a dump you will see long charging times and more heat. Charge the phone a few times from fully discharged until the APP tells you the phone is full- not the phone. After fully charging a few times, go to the health page and report your battery's estimated capacity.
Ok thanks. Sometimes I get the charging rapidly message, sometimes it just says charging. Guess I might have to look to upgrade soon. Maybe a Pixel 2 is in my future
