I have been looking at the few available ROMs but figured I'd ask those who have already flashed them.
The N10 sits at 1gb of usage after a fresh boot leavjng 400-500gb free for everything else. This is normally more than enough...but I like to hook it up to my TV and play games with six axis. This automatically shoots the usage up to 1.3-1.4gb of memory, sometimes leaving me with 50mb free...causing crashes.
Just curious if any app has lowered the ram usage on startup? I disabled everything I could and only use one home screen and minimal widgets so ive done all I can :-/.

Is 350MB low? Does it affect the phone's performance at all?
C'mon! If the device works well, it doesn't matter if you have 350MB or 800MB free. By the way, 350MB is way too much RAM. I have a Milestone and I usually get 35 to 45MB out of 256MB after reboot. The phone works like a charm.
So, why should you bother for this insignificance?
android is not windows 98

why you want more free ram ?

Seeing thus aswell. If your phone is rooted freeze all the crappy moto things that you don't use. And that should help a little bit.
I updated so I cannot freeze any apps at the moment. But I uninstall all the apps that constantly reset/start, this makes more ram and better battery. Also my zg ran super fast with only 10-20 ram and it works flawless.
It seems that stock rom goes smooth for the first months after buying the phone or wiping, but as you get a handful of apps installed soon you'll get LOTS of lag, especially on UIs, even when overclocked at 2 GHz on performance governor. Currently got 60 mbs left on internal memory and usually got 100 mbs of 'free' memory on average (cached memory fills it almost fully). Anyone?

Use Link2SD to free up internal storage. Also, stop unnecessary services from starting on boot with Autostarts. Voila

Tried that, and that. Even supercharged it. The problem is that the UIs often drop below, say 20 fps, like it's struggling to do something. For example, the Go Launcher's app drawer almost literally struggles when sliding your finger, and when taking a photo it may take up to 20 seconds to load it up, even when the microsd card I use is a class ten and I've made the sdcard cache speed tweak thingy. It only runs smooth when I don't have many apps installed, currently 9 4x4 pages of apps (about 136 apps)

Maybe it's just your phone. Mine's running just fine, and I've installed plenty of apps.
Also, I highly advise against running at 2GHz

I guess I'm going to wipe and enjoy smoothness for another few months. If it is just my phone, I would burst into rage.

My phone does the same thing, and I always thought it might have been an issue with the 2.3.3 .ftf I was using

Really? I'm on stock with 280 apps and an alt UI with no tweaks and it seems my entire YouTube channel thinks my Xperia Play's on drugs for being so smooth.
When I was running stock, I was using about high 300-400MB.
After unlocked, rooted & installed AOKP with Nova launcher + Franco kernal, I'm at high 500-600MB, even with all the tasks killed.
Just wondering if this is normal?
Unlike a computer, android using a high amount of memory is a good thing.

Unused RAM is wasted RAM ...
Android is freeing the memory as soon as it needs it for more important tasks, so it's OK to see almost all RAM occupied.

Thanks for sharing. Helps alot. Do we need to clear recent apps too? Am always on 450mb-520mb of RAM and 4xxmb of free RAM in my Nexus 7...
About 50% with 92 apps installed
100% of RAM is always in use. Save for processor cache, it's the fastest storage media in the device.
Pages not mapped into process VM address space or reserved by the kernel are used for file cache.
Because read-only shared libraries can be mapped into many processes, and the entire dalvik engine is supported by hundreds of shared native libraries, having them pre-loaded into at least one process address space decreases new app loading time. Additionally, it makes computing a "memory used" statistic a little bit odd. (See for example the definition of "PSS" used by the procrank utility).
Which brings up a germane question for all participants in this thread: what are you using to report the so-called "memory used" value?
I'll bet it's not something from /proc/meminfo ...
Is anyone else experiencing high ram usage on their s4? I'm down to only about 450 mb of free memory. I barely have anything running, too.

"Free ram is wasted ram" this is android not windows...you dont need to worry about low ram, amdroid handles ram difderntly than computers...and more efficiently. If the ram ever becomes too loaded to function smoothly android os will automatically clear the least ysed applications freeing up some ram.

Under settings, application manager...one of the tabs allows you to clear apps from ram
However there is no benefits on doing this...in fact only disadvantages. Clearing apps will jot improve overall device speed, it will however require those apps that were cleared to take longer to reopen as they are no longer stored in the ram.
If a specific app is slow or not running as it usually does than it may be wise to force stop it under settings application manager

Hello,
I just got my T-Mobile G2 a couple of days ago. I don't have a lot of experience yet but I'm curious if this is the normal RAM usage vs availability. If so do you have any problems running high end games, apps, etc? I am presently on 4.4.2. I have used Titanium Backup to freeze a lot of system apps. This just seems like it could be an issue. I also use Greenify to hibernate some apps as well. Any thoughts on this?

I would love to get an expert answer on this. I recently changed it PAC Man Rom and now it appears I have even less available memory. I'm not noticing any lag or anything but it just bugs me. I added up everything cached and running and it totalled like 364mb not even half a gig of ram. This phone has 2GB of ram. So I dunno just seems weird to me. I guess as long as it's not all laggy then that's what matters.

Yes that's normal use I usually have around 300-400 mb ram and another note that everyone makes unused ram is useless ram

I guess my confusion is what happens if I've got 400 mb of ram and I go to play GTA San Andreas... Lol. Will it pull it off? Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah, the more RAM used the better. I'm using PA3.99RC2 with a kernel (I forget where I got it; just says d800 custom 5 cm) that doesn't use enough RAM. I always have 700-800MB free. I don't know what sysctl changes I can make to increase RAM use. I hope my phone isn't using a swap on its slow mobile phone NAND .
You can use Greenify which now doesn't require root. You can disable apps/system apps running on background that you don't use.

I have Greenify. But nevertheless I played Riptide GP2 earlier with full graphics. Smooth as butter. Good enough for me.
