Dear Nicholas.
May I recommend you where to start from?
Personally I thought that it would be best if you'd be able to distinguish between I9100 and S3...

Specially for the S III, we will be building kernel 3.4.

Great news can be a test man if needed.
Much live or love?

Are there beta testers for devices or android systems?
If not I am not sure why pc apps use beta testing and not android

I'll be more than happy to try out any alpha & beta releases of any Android products
just being able to play with the latest and greatest is more than enough joy for me
Moved to General forum. The development forum is only for development threads. (Threads with actual development happening.)
Questions should always be in the General forums (or Q&A if your device has a Q&A forum.)
I would be very interested in testing for free devices
Add me to the list.
I'd love to do some beta testing!!!

Seriously? Please? I think this thread needs a pretty epic dose of it.
It would be great if there was an employee of Samsung / HTC / other phone manufacturers as a contact point between the dev community and the manufacturers themselves.
Eg: to look through forums such as this, see what everyone's saying, keep us posted on news and dates and seek honest feedback from us.
The only people who look through XDA are those interested in modding and installing custom firmwares anyway, so regular consumers would gain the benefit of us testing the stuff out without them having to be aware of it.
Plus, one of the deciding factors of many enthusiasts when buying a new Android phone is the dev community and support, so you can guarantee they would gain at least a few more sales from those interested.

That will make them way too vurnerable and the benefits will never justify the costs. The game they play is how to make as much as profit as one can. From that perspective things are good if and only if the sales figures are good. So, for them, sales figures are all the feedback they need
If they did do such a scheme, it would be in Korea.

Said this in one of the other posts.... NVIDIA is not going opensource; just willing to provide some documentation to the opensource community.
As stated in my other post
"This is not kernel module source they are releasing; they are just saying they are willing to provide more information to the opensource community. NVIDIA has recently indicated they may provide documentation to those working on the nouveau drivers (opensource NVIDIA PC drivers); under an NDA. Meaning that they will provide the documentation to those that work on the opensource driver but not allow the information to be shared. For this to be helpful we would need the documentation provided to someone who is working on opensource Tegra drivers; which I do not believe there is anyone. So this would probably be picked up by those working on the nouveau drivers. Best case if all the information is provided and they decide to work on it it would probably be at least a year before we would have anything stable for use."

Atrix Re-Birth Project

This page is dedicated to make a stable ICS-JB for the Motorola Atrix
Brief history about the project:
- Un unstable ICS for Motorola Atrix was leaked
- Developers worked on integrating kernel and drivers into existing build
- Kernel was found to be very unstable and new kernel is being ported to Atrix
- While we wait for the kernel, an ICS CM9 build is ready for anyone willing to join the challenge
Next step:
- Developers should get involved in fixing/enhancing the current build
- Code submission is done by forwarding the changes to the head development team for inclusion
Build source code is all available to anyone willing to participate. The build process follows CyanogenMOD builds.
Source Code location: https://github.com/MROM/android/tree/ics

Dear fellow Atrix owners,
We all know by now that Motorola has cancelled the plans for upgrading to ICS, I was hoping myself to get the new drivers to update my own rom to ICS or JB. Well, this is not going to happen...
What do we do now?
We can either assume this is the death of this revolutionary device, or work on the Re-Birth. You probably know, but there are a group of developers working on upgrading the current Gingerbread version to ICS or JB. I am personally one of them...
We all need your help... we are donating our precious time and resources to make the Atrix 4G a better device that could last for another year or two, however, alone, we cannot continue with this...
WE NEED YOUR HELP...
If you are still reading this message, good, now it's time to decide if the Atrix is going to die in the couple of months or live for some time. We are looking for:
- People that can write code and troubleshoot (Android Java and C/C++)
- Testers
- Project managers (believe it ICS or JB is a full SDLC project)
- Android Advanced users not too scared of trying something new on their phones
- Donate Atrix Devices that you no longer need
- Of course, donations to at least justify the amount if time we spend on this
- If I forgot something, please reply to this thread with suggections
Again, you decide DEATH or RE-BIRTH
Take Care

It is certainly great to see commitment of this kind. I'm no DEV nor do i possess programming skills which could assist you. But please feel free to count me in as a tester and advanced user, more than willing to get his feet wet .
I will glady donate, as should others who wish to revive this device that surely isnt really outdated
I would love to be a tester and advanced user. I have 2 atrixes, so I can test to any extent on one of them. I would donate one but I need to have my main atrix as a backup to the s2 I am in the process of buying. So my backup backup is there for testing anything and everything needed.
I would have no problem in donating except I don't see anyone claiming that it is at all realistically possible to get the full ICS experience in our phones (meaning hardware acceleration and working camcorder). If that changes, I'd be happy to donate to keep my phone alive, but if it's just going to be another dissapointing waiting game with no outcome...
PS: Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to rain on your parade or be an ungrateful bastard as I do really appreciate the work all of you devs put on this. I'd be happy to give money for a bounty.
i'd personally donate 50 dollars to the cause of keeping our phones alive. probably more as time went on as well, just to keep the project alive.
i would also be willing to test ANYTHING on my Atrix, as i have plans of replacing it soon anyways. the fingerprint scanner doesn't work anymore, and the touchscreen is dying.
I'm JUST NOW getting an Atrix and a Lapdock, a little late I know But count me as an advanced user willing to test anything. I hope to get webtop (In non-blur roms) working above all else, unfortunately since moto isn't willing to comply, that is also the most difficult task.

If there is something i can do that doesn't take me a very lot of time (because of the for-a-life work)
This is possible but requires more than a couple of devs working close together to make it come true. And ofcourse, it will spend us certain time for fix the problem of Nvidia named Tegra2 by re-developing a brandnew driver for our device.
Once this mission completed, we can completely go further ahead to open up other attractive projects on this worth device

Push Samsung to release Exynos Source Code! [Update 25.11.13]

EDIT 25.11.13
The experimental Build with the new exynos sources works fine on the S3 and improves on graphics related stuff. There are some things that are broken but I hope those issues can be ironed out.
XpLoDWilD said:
In collaboration with geecko, here's a test build with the updated graphics stuff.
======== Don't expect it to be working 100% correctly that's not the goal. This build is exclusively to get your feedback on graphics and overall performance of the ROM. It is known that Camera and video playback might be both broken partially in this build.

EDIT 19.11.13
Samsung dropped an insignal Update for the Exynos 4412 devices which can be used with AOSP. It's hard to implement but thanks to the brilliant developers at XDA there is hope. Check this out from the Omni Thread:

What's with the insignal exynos4 update? Does it actually do any good? (I would be very surprised if Samsung would actually do something positive for the developer community ^^)
And also will the second commit when implemented enable tv-out on the I9100? Will this be usable on other Exynos devices especially the I9300?

I have been too busy with other stuff to mess with them. In theory - actual working hwcomposer and maybe TV-out. More than 6 months after when they promised, Insignal finally dropped an update, but it proved extremely difficult to integrate at that time plus none of the "old" crew had much motivation to mess with it. Clement seems to have gained motivation and has done some great stuff so far.
The initial Insignal drop was actually for Exynos 4412 devices. 4412 and 4210 are nearly identical, main differences are regarding JPEG compression and the camera interfaces.

Ok, so now hwcomposer isn't complaining anymore. Screen is completely black now because fences are timing out (surfaces are ready to be displayed when the fence is firing). dmesg is full of derp, looks like Mali driver is complaining. That's another progress... getting closer

The Test build is going to be for the I9300 but since the S2 has an almost identical SoC it's not far behind if everything works out for the I9300. It's great news and that's what we need

This thread is the equivalent to the one in the SIII Forums and not my idea. AntonLiv92 started the thread to inform people where they can write personal concerns to Samsung, so they will release the source code and proper documentation for Exynos based devices and as you probably all know our SII is based on Samsung`s Exynos 4210 processor.
This thread will inform you people where to contact Samsung, so that we get their attention or as codeworkx said:

So our goal is to get Samsung`s attention by writing as many concerns as possible of missing source code to Samsung. Of course it`s also important what you write, so it`s not just a big noob campaign asking for the Source Code. Codeworkx made a list of what is needed:

Message: Copy & Paste the following...
Dear Samsung,
without a doubt you build the best phones on the market and I really enjoy using the Galaxy SII I9100 but there is a problem. A lot of people like to use mods like the popular CyanogenMod on your flagship
devices. Without the source code and proper documentation great developers like codeworkx who is a device maintainer for Samsung phones at XDA-Developers.com start to turn their back on Samsung
phones like the Galaxy SIII because they are based on the Exynos processor due to the fact that there is a lack of source code and proper documentation. Since developers are the lifeblood of Android it`s
not a good sign to see them leave to other companies who provide proper source code and documentation. Qualcomm and Texas Instruments understand that and they released their source code and
developers are using it to do great things.
With this letter I ask you to release Source code and proper documentation for the Exynos 4210 and the Exynos 4412 and in the best case it should include the following:
- git repos
- commit history
- release patches if ready as single commits and not as big messed up tarballs
- up2date reference code for their video interfaces
- up2date reference camera hal to work with these interfaces
- up2date reference audio hal
- up2date reference hardwarecomposer
- patches needed for android framework (platform support)
- gralloc if possible
- maybe hdmi?
- maybe fmradio?
Thank you for your great phones and I really hope that you will release the above stated things.

both the s3 and s2 use exynos 4.. so it should be fine i guess with the documentation. but let them say a yes.. they usually just keeps the hopes high and say no later. need to push them more!!
From Entropy's post in the CM10 thread they changed too many things between S3 Exynos and the S2 for it to be useful. Let's hope they release source code for both. Scarface you should make a thread in the I777 and N7000 general sections since they use the same chips and will be affected by this news or eventual developments, I'm a I777 user and only use my own ported i9100 ROMS
the audio maybe is the problem, s3 and s2 have totally differente chip...

without a doubt you build the best phones on the market and I really enjoy using the Galaxy SII I9100 but there is a problem.
