So if I remember correctly T-Mobiles upcoming LTE network slated for a mid 2013 rollout, this network will use LTE band 4 the only band that works on our phone will they only be using band 4? And what frequency will they use, will it improve indoor coverage?
Also do you think we can use it on their monthly 4G prepaid plans? I hate signing contracts and paying out my ass per month.

Yes they will be using Band 4 so that they will have their own LTE modified with their antenna which is easier for them, strange that they invested a lot but since iphone will be in tmobile, it might be worth it.
When LTE starts, there will an option if you are still in contract to pay an extra fee to gain this benefit.prepaid? don't think about LTE with prepaid, the strategy is to make you bind into a contract.
oh and about improvement on indoor coverage, it still depends how far you are within their antennas.
No coverage will likely not improve. They are using the same frequencies that their current HSPAP uses, so if your coverage sucks now, it will probably suck after LTE. You will not get LTE with prepaid. They will probably only use band 4, but LTE on this phone sucks anyways due to the battery drain.

No LTE. It'll be a year at least until there's any solid LTE coverage so I'm not worried about it.
Just as the title implies, I am curious if the free LTE upgrade offered by motorola will be compatible with ATT's future LTE network.
I am one of the lucky ones that got the 25% off deal and a contract free $600 xoom (if it ever gets here!!!). I have a family plan through ATT and would rather just add to that then have to pay multiple carriers for another data service.
Actually I mostly plan on tethering it to my cappy but would love to have an iPad like data plan through ATT that i could activate/deactivate as needed...
So anyone have a clue if the upgrade will be compatible with ATT LTE network?

Verizon's LTE setup is entirely 700mhz, and as such the verizon xoom will only support 700mhz LTE. Verizon has nation wide 700mhz coverage.
AT&T has a fairly large 700mhz spectrum but not over the entire country.. in some places it may be 1700mhz instead which will not work. I am unsure if the xoom is unlocked, but if it is, an AT&T sim card should work in 700mhz areas.

You have to check from provider to provider.. 700mhz is a fairly recent USA only thing due to the spectrum sales.

There are actually three xoom SKUs one verizon uses, one GSM (international 3G, basically) and one WiFi only
I know T- mobile is rolling out their 1900mhz band across the US this year, and in the last few days I've noticed much better signal strength and I just ran a speedtest and was very impressed by the results. I've had better upload results but this is by far the fastest upload speeds I've seen on the mobile data network.
Showed the 'H' icon next to the signal bars, I wonder if our phones will ever show 'LTE'?
I know I'm getting 4G but never says 4G. Always just 'H'.

Haha, I, as well as many others in this forum have been getting 20-25 off HSPA 42. There is an internal setting in the Nexus 4 to enable LTE, and if you connect to LTE, it shows the appropriate symbol, too. Currently, the flavor of LTE that the Nexus likes is only available in Canada (and maybe other places, but not US yet as far as I know), but it's starting to get deployed in the US via T-Mobile. It started off in Las Vegas and Kansas, or will be starting off, so if you're not in either of those places, you probably don't have LTE.

Its always gonna say h. There are ROMS that replace the icon with a 4g icon but most of them leave them as is. That doesnt mean your not getting 4g , plus those speeds look very good to me

Those speeds are excellent for 4g, but with lte you're going to see upload speeds as fast as your download speeds.

T-Mobile isn't rolling out LTE on 1900mhz. That's just 3G.

Interesting, I've received different information. I've spoken with level 3 tech support numerous times about the roll out of their 1900mhz band during 2013 across the US, and they confirmed that their version of LTE will use the 1900mhz frequency (which, incidentally is the most highly used global frequency for high speed data - I'm a British and Australian Citizen as well as US Citizen and use my phones worldwide). The 700mhz frequency is for Verizon LTE phones, so T-Mobiles decision to run 1900mhz will mean that AT&T customers can move to T-Mobile with their existing phones
Their current 3G and 4G runs on 1700mhz - of course your phone will only get 4G if it's hardware capable of 4G.

I don't need an article.. T-Mobile is deploying band 4 LTE over 1700/2100mhz frequencies. The 1900mhz band is being refarmed to HSPAP which will allow AT&T users to use HSPAP on T-Mobile. This also allows T-Mobile to stop using 1700/2100 for HSPAP since they will be using it for LTE.
If you are calling T-Mobile and expecting their "level 3 tech support" to know anything, you're doing it wrong.

Thanks for your clarification. Good to know that we will get LTE regardless as the phone supports all those bands.
And, yes their tech support had been I'll informed before.... I was hoping that since several different people had said the same thing that there was consistency... Seems consistently crap information. However, 1700mhz currently is 4G, so moving it to 1900mhz is to improve signal strength through buildings etc right?
I've since looked at comparisons between HSPA+ and LTE... seems that LTE has a significant edge uploading, not that great of a difference download (especially as download speeds are often limited by the site you visit, regardless of how fast your carrier speed).
I'm sure I'll be happy with HSPS+ as I rarely upload much more than photos I take on my phone camera, and current 4G is plenty sufficient as it is..

I did a search in the q&a forums and didn't find anything about this. Is it possible for me to get 4g lte using an att sim card through straight talk? Just today 4g was activated in my area and it would be great to use that instead of my crappy internet connection which is like 3mb download. I know i would need to use either an older radio or a hybrid one for the nexus 4 to have lte functionality, but would it work on straight talk att?

I don't know about about LTE on AT&T but if you go into Settings-More-Mobile Networks and enable Data Roaming then go to Access Point Names and hit Menu then reset to default you should see a slight increase in a good coverage area. I went from averaging 3 Mbps to 6 Mbps.

1) Straight Talk has no LTE, AIO (owned by AT&T and available in limited markets) is the only MVNO with LTE. Otherwise you need Go Phone (AT&T prepaid).
2) It only connects to LTE on 1700 MHz Band 4. Most of AT&T uses 700 MHz Band 17, but there are some Band 4 areas (Puerto Rico and Oklahoma City have been reported).
Best advice is to check if T-Mobile has good coverage in your area (I average 15 Mbps down just on HSPA+), and all of T-Mobile's LTE is on Band 4.

I meant my actual internet connection lol. I have centurylink in the middle of nowhere and their highest speed
is 6mb, but im lucky if i get 4mb. Having 4g would be a godsend because i could use a wireless hotspot for everything.

Unfortunately I dont think i get t-mobile coverage where I am. Only ATT. So there's no hope then huh?

I would beg for 3Mbps download on my Nexus4 on Straight Talk AT&T. The highest speed I every got was 1.06 Mbps.
If you live out in the middle of nowhere then you won't be getting LTE form any carrier any time soon. Best you will get is HSPA+ from AT&T. Also Chicago is another area where AT&T is using band 4 as they don't have enough band 17 coverage in that area to serve it properly.

I know there is 4g in my area now. Other phones in the house are getting 4g. I was just hoping there was some hope for my wife and I to be able to get 4g as well through ATT. How would i test which band my area is using and assuming I were able to get 4g what would be the steps to getting it on my nexus 4?

Just noticed LTE on my wife's HTC One on straighttalk using an AT&T mvno here in Hawaii.
I only did one speed test 7mbs up and down. Pleasantly surprised.
1) Is US Cellular using LTE Band 12 up here in Maine?
2) Is Nexus 6P "certified" for Band 12 on T-Mobile?
3) What is (or where do I find out) the T-Mobile/US Cellular roaming agreement here in Maine?
When my Nexus 6P signs onto US Cellular, I am lucky to get "edge" coverage (but it does not seem to actually know how to use it). I understand that USC has LTE band 12 and am wondering why I cannot access it. There are no TMO towers in my area. I get great LTE coverage using Canadian (Bell/Telus) towers, but nothing useful for a huge area here in Maine as I travel south towards Augusta. Is the Nexus 6P a bad choice for TMO? Should I be using something else or is nothing going to actually utilize USC's LTE network? Hoping to resolve this because I need the Canada coverage TMO provides, but I also need coverage here in Maine. Is the USC LTE deployment actually band 12 here?

US Cellular is a CDMA provider. They are not GSM so there is no edge to be used. The only part of their network you'd be able to possibly use is LTE, But I highly doubt you could roam on them due to if LTE did work, they're would be no way for SMS/Phone calls to work as you'd only be able to get a data only connection.

US Cellular has shifted to GSM as well as the LTE. My iPad Pro does roam on their Edge network with no issues. The Nexus 6P does not like their network, but it can and does use CDMA where it is.

US Cellular is still CDMA as stated on there website along with every phone they sell is CDMA/LTE. Yeah the 6P can use CDMA but there is no GSM carrier that has agreements with CDMA roaming except for Project Fi which uses Sprint, T-Mobile, and recently now U.S.Cellular for the nexus devices.
I was doing some digging and U.S.Cellular does have a few GSM towers up were your at but its for roaming purposes ONLY (it's technically not really uscellular though) it's just them to make a few dollars from Gsm carriers like T-Mobile haha. so that would explain why you can get edge not sure why your 6P won't roam on it correctly though.
