My 1st Rooting of Galaxy TAB 2 '5113' 4.0.4 - Galaxy Tab 2 General

I have researched and followed the rooting guide and have found that even though I have 4.0.4 I did not need to do any work around. I just wanted to let others know what I have done in case they are still having problems.
I downloaded all files as the guide stated (on here, just search it) and then followed the steps. I at first missed the work around due to it being on post 310 not 350 (due to deleted posts). Basically I never stopped the auto reboot inside Odin.
I tried a basic root check and no root access was found. Instead of starting over I downloaded 'superuser' and 'superuser elite' (bought with other devices).
After installing these from the play store, I rechecked and had a rooted device. I tested also Rom Toolbox, which is limited on functionality due to the Galaxy software. I have been able to remove bloat as well as freeze it with Titanium Backup.
I hope this helps anyone still having problems, also my tablet never did the 'blue flash'. I let go of power at logo and counted to 10 then released power button, went to recovery.
I want to say thanks to all the devs out there with your help and knowledge I have rooted an SGS4G, HTC Amaze, Acer A200, Toshiba Thrive, and now my Galaxy tab 2 10.1. I have never had a hard brick or soft brick, the HTC people know what I'm talking about especially.
Just remember to read and reread before you go at it and always make back ups. Thanks again to every developer and for everyone else if you can donate to these people or at least say thanks and donate to to this forum, they all work hard to help everyone.
This is why I am here loving android devices over others.

[Q] Intro for Galaxy Tab falshing?

Hi guys
I have had my Tab for about a week now and have succesfuly rooted( z4root) and installed One Click Lag Fix. I want to start flashing, but I have been bombarded with new things I never encountered during my desire rooting process. First there is this stuff about 'euro' 'tmob' and so on. I know that sprint and vzn use cdma, but what should i aim to use on my australian vodafone tab (have been trying to use euro and tmo so far)? Thos brings me to my second question, how do i unlock it. I tried twice to use the method posted here on xda, but it just rebooted and asked for a network unlock code. Lastly, what do i have to do to start flashing roms on this thing (and what roms should i use- euro?). On the desire, just boot into clockwork and flash away. I cant get cwm working on this ( tried the tmobile one in rom manager- just reverts to stock. Bootloader patch app says my bootloader isnt locked...). Even then, all the roms seem to reccomend Odin (which, from what i can tell, is a desktop mounter flasher) or heimdal.
Huge thanks in advance
PS. If i can get all this sorted out, i will organize it all and hopefuly make it a sticky for future noobs to stop them asking thos stuff again

[Q] Boot Loop Frustration

I have searched around and can't seem to find a similar problem with a solution that I can understand. I used superoneclick to root my Verizon Galaxy 7" tablet. Everything seemed to go fine, but I really didn't have time to do anything "techy" with it. After a couple of weeks the tablet was acting kind of glitchy, nothing terrible, so I should have just left it alone. Instead I tried to do a complete factory reset. I tried several times, but it would never completely reset. My personalized wallpaper would show up, then all my apps were still there, settings didn't appear to change, etc.
I tried using Hemdall and loading new cache, param, system & zImage files. Now I am stuck in a boot loop. The machine will power up to the setup wizard, but every step generates multiple FCs until the setup wizard itself FC. Then it powers down and starts all over again. "Wipe data/factory reset" produces no change to the problem.
At this point I just want to restore my tablet to stock. No root, nothing fancy.
Can someone recommend a clear, easy to follow, current tutorial for me. I have downloaded Odin, but am uncertain which ROM I need to use. I really don't care which method you recommend as long as it is detailed (ie. written for a complete idiot to follow).
Thanks for any help.
2 things. Are you talking about a regular 7" galaxy or the 7.7? And this will most likely be moved because its a question and questions go in the general section.

7 or 7.7
Regarding the 7 or 7.7 question: I don't know which it is because I can't get it to boot up long enough to go into settings. According to the label it is an SCH-i800. It was purchased from Verizon in March 2011. I am pretty sure that it is a 7. Is there any way to tell just by looking at it?
Just determined it is a 7.0 per the Samsung webpage.
I guess I am in the wrong forum again. I am going to post in the General Galaxy Tablet forum.
Googled your model # you listed and stock rom and found this tutorial. Hope this helps you.
Thanks. I have tried that one a couple of times. It is close, but no cigar. I appreciate you thinking of me.
Some boot loop problems can be solved by letting the battery go flat overnight to get out of the loop, recharging then booting normally and doing a factory reset. If that doesn't work then re-flashing using Odin followed by a factory reset is worth trying.
You can get the firmware for flashing here:
http://www.samfirmware.com/
and a guide how to do the flashing here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469635
I hope this helps and good luck

Verizon only sells the silver version of the 7.7, for which the model number is SCH-I815. If you have a plastic back, it's the 7, and an aluminum back is the 7.7. Of course, since posted your model I can tell you for sure it's the 7, so you might have better luck posting in the appropriate forum.
Depending on how SuperOneClick works for the tab (I have no idea personally), you might just be best taking it to Verizon and asking for a replacement. I find it unlikely that they'd be able to detect that it has been rooted if it's totally fubar'd.

Rooting HTC Desire Z (step-by-step)

Hi guys,
I'm an idiot. That's nothing new, but here it looks that I'm double one I tried to root my wife's HTC Desire Z, but without success. I tried to use CWM Super-Su v0.96, HTC Quick Root and few others. But I'm not able to do it.
Can you please explain me somebody step-by-step, what I have to download exactly, what to copy where, what to run, to do and so on.... For example HTC Quick Root - after initial reboot to recovery mode I had to run 1st option "phone reboot" or something like that, but before reboot that I received some error message regarding rights to folder structure....So I wasn't able to install Superuser or SuperSU. I also tried to run Superuser.apk but of cousre I have no rights to System/xbin to copy there su file...
Her Android ver is 2.3.3 , HTC Sense ver 2.1 , SW number: 2.42.405.4
PS: During this process I need my data untouched in the phone (pictures, contacts, SMS). I don't want to upgrade Android ver, I just need root access to install Titanium Backup and delete 90% of useless apps.
Thank you very much,
idiot Rado77 :cyclops:
PS: I'm adding answer also here. As you can see below, there are few ways how to do the same thing, but for example in my case worked only this way:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Firmware_Downgrade_(Gingerbread)
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Rooting
Try this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835777
Thank you very much Marquin. I spent appr. 6 hours and read whole internet, but I couldn't root that crazy phone I used almost every type of rooting method, but I allways receive some error message regarding rights, or it repeatedly freezes on some concrete step... I don't underdstand because I sucessfuly rooted my Xperia U and LG P690 during 15 minutes. But this HTC really shocked me. I'm an idiot, I said that...
The only way to truley root your phone will be following the xda wiki, the cyanogen wiki, or strawmetals PDF guide. Don't use any other method or you will have issues, some could brick your phone some could just make things more difficult later.
You will need to downgrade first, yes this will wipe your phone. You can use apps like sms backup + to save call logs and messages, link account to google to store contacts, have pictures on sd so you don't loose them.

Ahaaaaaa, so it looks that downgrade is necessary part of root process. Thank you very much for info. I think that this could be the right way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261
When I was rooting my DZ I used that:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Firmware_Downgrade_(Gingerbread)
for downgrading...
Finally I used pages on WIKI:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Firmware_Downgrade_(Gingerbread)
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Rooting
and I can say that rooting of this phone was the heaviest what I did  I had to chat with some guy named GUHL who helps me with whole process step-by-step, he checked outputs wiht error messages in my cmd and as final he gaves me the link with beautifull 2.3 Sense with available root.
Ufffff...that was really interesting way!
PS: I'll never root any HTC phone !!!!
Hey all!
I finally decided to root my phone after having it for about two years or so. I don't know why I never bothered, but decided to do so today. It was a bit of a hassle, even with the instructions that I found (the same ones I found in this thread), but I finally got it to work! I just flashed my first rom (Gen.Y VisionX R2 ) and so far I'm liking it, but I don't really know what's out there in terms of what I can do (customizing options, speed/performance, overclocking, and all that).
But anyways, great links in this thread
without downgrading to 2.2 Froyo, there's no way to Root desire z 2.3.3, if you are already on 2.2 and you can continue rooting procedure. make sure to follow the instructions correctly and (copy past the command do not type it>> IMPORTANT) :cowboy
Ahmedrzvi
Recently got my vision on 2.3.3 and already soff . Now I'm not sure what to do.
Which root method could be the best option now
The rooting page on XDA links to the PDFs that have step by step guides, but the tools that are used/referenced are no longer available for download. This is a step above the Cyan page which is just plain gone.
Can anyone point to currently active steps in rooting the phone? I have it downgraded, I just need to root it.

Im in a similar situation, bought a Desire Z from Ebay, already has bootloader unlocked and s-ff (was like this when I got it). Unfortunately, I upgraded to Gingerbread before I realised this was an issue with rooting.
Have tried a few different guides, but it appears as though the fr3yo file is no longer available.
thank you im rooted
Hi.
I purchase desire z from ebay. From the first time i have some issues with the phone. Touchscreen was pressing by itself etc. I asked for help and told me that was digitizer fault. Before that i thought that may be they didn't flash the ROM corectly so i returned to stock froyo but i don't think i'm rooted.
I gave it for repair and after some days they gave me the phone back and told me that it is ok. To tell you then truth the problem it wasn't so intense so take it from there. I turn it on, played al little and turn it of. I made a charge for 5 hours. After that device turn on, go to menu and after some seconds reboot and reboot and reboot.
I have tried to install CWM with this method but i can't. At first step says "sending file" but after i got message "failed"
I know here are the most experienced guys that will try to suggest me a solution before sell it for parts.
Thank you very much
Antonis
Changing ROM
Hello,
I rooted my DZ a few weeks ago, without any issue; I did everything which was mentioned in the instructions, so I suppose I have S-off, rooting, and whatever. Of course I don't remember anything at all.
Now I'd like to change ROM, mainly because, in spite of using CM 7.2, which is widely recognized as one of the fastest, I am having several issues with performance. I read around that a "superwipe" may be useful, yet I don't remember having done it last time. So, my question is: what are the steps I should perform? I should maybe mention that I have ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.2.4 installed.
I hope this is a correct 3D to post into, if it isn't please take into account that I am new in this forum

[ROOT] Kindle Fire HD 7" fix for 7.3.1

If you are having issues rooting your kindle with guides online the reason behind it is that you are using an outdated version of "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v*" Currently most of the guides all have you downloading and using Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v17. You want to use a version of Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v version 21 or above. I did mine with version 21 and my gf's with version 28. I just wanted to make sure that it would work with a latest i could find.
Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v21 can be found with the link provided below. You can also google other Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v and try them out until you get your kindle rooted.
apparently i can't link outside
d -h.st /dm9
just copy it and paste it then backspace on the spaces to make it a usable url

hi, thanks for the above.
as a total noob to this, i sppent most of thursday researching how to do this, then carried it out eventually successfully too, only to wanke up on friday morning to see my device had updated to 7.3.1.
ive now downloaded binary v28, root with restore - how do i use this version? i used this guide -
androidforums com/kindle-fire-hd-all-things-root/669366-idiots-guide-rooting-kindle-fire-hd-7-7-2-3-a.html
to carry out my rooting, so i now need to know how to do it using the v28 version, and if there is any differences to the process linked above.
also, i downloaded droidwall, and thought i had blocked the updating app, but it obviously hadnt. then i noticed at the top it said "firewall disabled" how do i enable this?
and finally, how do i get to change the launcher / user interface/ how can i change this to a one similar to the galaxy tab or something else like this?
yes, i am a noob, and all help is welcome guys. many thanks in advance.

Yeah the only difference is that you are using an upgraded version of program they have so instead of using v17 use newer version. I think once you install the new google play store all you have to do is find GO Launcher in the market place.

Download DroidWall from the googplaystore, that app disables updates. I don't know much about golauncher. If you follow the guide and have googleplaystore then you should be able to download everything.
I have confirmed that Bin4ry (I used v26) method works fine for both 7.3.0 and the new 7.3.1 update that is just rolling out. Here are some instructions that hopefully is clear for everyone (link). Obviously the main credit goes to the root method.
Was having trouble getting root again after my kindle went to 7.3.1. This worked for me. Thanks for the help!
Problems with attempting to root on 7.3.1
Hello-
I have used the "Root with Restore by Bin4ry_v29" to no avail and I am extremely perplexed as to whats going wrong. I have followed all the instructions outlined and during the process I do see multiple instances within the application saying "permissions denied" yet it continues as if everything is ok. Well, once it says everything is finished and I have rebooted the device multiple times, its EXTREMELY sluggish and borderline unresponsive. It also doesn't have root access as Superuser isn't on the device. So I am asking for any advice/guidance anyone can provide that maybe knows whats up or has had this happen and knows what the problem is.
Please help!
ps: Not new to rooting either as I have rooted all the android phones I have ever had with no problems but I know the Kindle is a different beast.
Thanks!
I'm on my phone so I can't post the link but if you search you'll find it, but I just rooted a new KFHD four days ago by using prokenexus how to root for noon guide. I followed it from start to finish and was completely successful. Took a total of about 45 minutes. He has two ways to root in his thread, automated and manual. I always like doing manual so I can see everything that is going on. But it worked like a charm. So might want to give that a look.

I can't find anything else on the web atm on 7.4.1 so either I've been hacked or I'm one of the first to get it.
I just did mine a second ago. Second time Ive done this, but I cant rememeber what i did last time to remedy the issue. Once I did it, it fixed the lag. hmmm... someone please help me remember....

Super slow after boot solved!
Ok even though this guide stated that if you are on version 7.2.3, you don't need to run rootqemu. Bat method, that was not true in my case. After running through the runme phase in cmnd prompt, choosing normal root, and letting the process finish and reboot, my device was ridiculously slow, and not rooted might I add. Here's the trick though, immediately after that process finishes, you need to run the Rootqemu method also. But when you try to run Rootqemu.bat by right clicking and running as administrator, it doesn't recognize the device. What I had to do was left click on ONLY the folder that contained the Rootqemu files, and while only that folder is highlighted, you hold down the shift key and right click on the folder. Then you are going to click on "run command prompt here". Once the command prompt opens, you are going to type Rootqemu.bat and press enter. Then you can press 1 to root, let the program run through its few stages, and after it reboots several times and finishes it's process, voila no more lag, and you should be finally rooted. Also after that process, download a program called Kindlefree. It's an absolutely amazing, and simple way to install all the essential Google apps "aka" Gapps to your rooted Kindle fire hd. I hope this helps everyone like it did me!

For future referencef any further visitors
Hello fellow users and visitors. I've been following this site for a while now, yes I'm considered a "noob" here but I have my experiences well beyond the level of a "noob." This is my first post, and I indeed have a KF HD 7. Since there is so much confusion as far as CLEAR NEWBIES INSTRUCTIONS, I've decided to give everyone the guide I used to root my Kindle, which was derived from a guide here at XDA itself. You can find it here at
androidcowboy (DOT) com /2013/04/root-kindle-fire-hd-7-3-0-firmware/
This DOES indeed work for 7.3.1 as mine was, it took me two tries. But heed my warning, rooting this beauty MAY cause some issues as it has to mine such as randomly shutting off, battery showing up as 0% on some occasions when it is turned on, and sometimes refusing to charge more frequently than it used to. Those issues eventually happen without root, some people have these problems the first week of having a fresh new KFHD7, and I have friends with the same Kindle, rooted, and theirs do not present same issue, so I guess some do some don't.
Good luck and happy rooting. Now you can revive Google Play!
Another confirmation for 7.3.1. I followed Android Cowboy's procedures for both rooting and installing Google Play. Very easy. Thanks Cowboy!

If you have issues rooting, please go to my thread in my signature. I addressed the issue of rooting on 7.3.1, and have written quick explanation for rooting with Bin4ry's method. The guide goes on to help you flash a custom ROM, should you so desire to get rid of that nasty Amazon OS interface.

Samsung GalaxyNote 2 AT&T - Always Stuck On Galaxy Note II Screen

Hey all,
I have read all over the place but I honestly get more confused the more I read. I wanted to switch to another OS since my phone was starting to become bogged down (too many pictures, videos, old files, etc etc etc; My phone is my work tool since I'm a field sales engineer)
So I went ahead and rooted it with ODIN 3 v1.85 and I317-UCUBMK6.tar.md5. I also installed TWRP although I have no clue which version it is. I suppose it's the latest one. My bootloader is 4.3 (I think; I go to About Device and I see the android version 4.3)
I always do the full swipe and a NANDROID back up. However, when I flash a custom ROM, I always end up stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Note II screen. It won't go.
I have tried to install the following ROM's:
DN3 - Always says "Failed" when I try to flash, even when following instructions of reboot recovery and flash again.
JEDI X 20 - Go through the entire aroma installer - it installs - asks for reboot - when rebooting, stuck as Samsung Galaxy Note 2 screen
and it pretty much happens with all of them. I have decided to back to stock (because I was a retard and accidentally deleted my NANDROID backup) and now I find my WIFI is broken.
I pretty sure this has all been discussed in various threads but I rather bring it all into one so that all that are having the same issue as me (I read a lot of people complaining about this issue with very scattered replies) can have a single thread that addresses how to fix this.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
