[Q] Intro for Galaxy Tab falshing? - Galaxy Tab General

Hi guys
I have had my Tab for about a week now and have succesfuly rooted( z4root) and installed One Click Lag Fix. I want to start flashing, but I have been bombarded with new things I never encountered during my desire rooting process. First there is this stuff about 'euro' 'tmob' and so on. I know that sprint and vzn use cdma, but what should i aim to use on my australian vodafone tab (have been trying to use euro and tmo so far)? Thos brings me to my second question, how do i unlock it. I tried twice to use the method posted here on xda, but it just rebooted and asked for a network unlock code. Lastly, what do i have to do to start flashing roms on this thing (and what roms should i use- euro?). On the desire, just boot into clockwork and flash away. I cant get cwm working on this ( tried the tmobile one in rom manager- just reverts to stock. Bootloader patch app says my bootloader isnt locked...). Even then, all the roms seem to reccomend Odin (which, from what i can tell, is a desktop mounter flasher) or heimdal.
Huge thanks in advance
PS. If i can get all this sorted out, i will organize it all and hopefuly make it a sticky for future noobs to stop them asking thos stuff again

help for a dell noob

hello everyone, i just got an unlock streak to use with t-mobile. im the second owner but the other guy said he just received it as a replacement from dell. this are the specs
baseband:GAUSB1A140514-US
build number:2.2
my problem:the phone is unlock so when i put my sim and boot i get the led flash 3 times and then goes on a boot loop. and it will keep doing it unless i take out my sim. i manage to get it to somewhat work by booting w/o sim, then put phone on airplane mode then off. place sim and boot. then i take it off plane mode and quickly turn of data. then wait for it to recognize tmobile towers, then turn on data and it works for a few mins then goes on a boot loop again. has anyone had this issue?
my second problem is i try to flash several GB base roms and it flashes but i get a lot of FC and cant run the rom. I currently have (miui 2.3.2 ENG DS5 ) and it runs fine w/o my sim. as soon as i put my sim its back to the boot loop.
btw i am not a noob to android, but am a noob to the dell streak. any help, tips, comments is appreciated thanks.

You need to flash gingerbread baseband files which are amss.mbn and dsp1.mbn through fastboot.
If you are not new to Android I'm assuming you have fastboot and adb drivers setup on your computer and/or the androidsdk installed to the C: drive and paths set to make command line flashing easy... if not then now would be the time to get all that done, if not then you will be back every other day asking for help and getting flamed..
on a side note, had you bothered to read QUITE A BIT MORE the answers I just gave you are provided in the stickies, not even much need to search really, so please don't be one of those newbies that starts a new thread or posts each time your Streak hiccups, ALL the info you need has already been gone over more times that I care to remember
Your baseband indicates the Streak at one point was running 405, the beta Gingerbread build. It's no wonder you're having problems given you're attempting to run Froyo with a beta Gingerbread baseband.
Where this Streak is used, it's best to flash a stock ROM first to ensure the Streak works properly. 407 would be perfect for this as it's the stock Gingerbread build but you could also use one of the stock Froyo ROMs as well. After flashing the stock ROM and making sure everything is working, then go to your chosen ROM, using the information in the stickies.

thanks for the reply, so then what you are saying is that the phone was on GB at one point? man, i knew this guy tryed to flash a dif rom before he sold it. He told me he just got it replace by Dell and decided he didn't want it. i fixed my second problem but im still having the issue with the phone rebooting when data is turned on and then freezes at boot screen.

thanks for the reply
correct i do have drivers and adb in my PC and this is not my first time using adb commands. and yes i did bother reading many threads and using the search tool and found lots of great info but nothing pin pointing to the same problem im having with the phone not liking it when i turn my data on.
Btw i figure out why non of the GB roms were working, when i was doing the factory reset i was only doing it through streakmod recovery. but when i FR on the previous menu it worked.
i also made the diagnostic test through fastboot menu to test the sim and every thing else and everything is fine
Sorry for the late reply. I believe your data issues will resolve themselves by installing 407. From there you can install one of the custom ROMs.
hmm ok ill try that

[Q] ROM/Module & Other Question about my GS4

Hi guys, have a few questions...
For starters, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 / AT&T
Running Android 4.4.2 Rooted with Towel Root
Connected on Straight Talk
~NC1
SafeStrap 3.72 (TWRP v2.7.0.0) Installed.
Im new to all this ROM/Modules and Rooting stuff.
Last time i fully customized stuff was on my Motorola RZR ages ago
making my keypad/ LED light blink with calls, and replacing the Cingular Logo
with a Pirate/2 Swords Logo. hah... good times.
I mean there was jail-breaking and whatnot but...that's easy stuff.
Any who, Im a quick learner so on to the subject.
My original idea was to FULLY customize this phone and install ROMS/other OS, thats
what im all about, customization. Sadly, i realized im on a NC1 which its Boot loader is
locked if im understanding correctly preventing me from installing other? ROMS?
However if i understood correctly, we still can install certain ROMS? Whats the difference?
Is there any ROM i can install that is clean? no bloatware? but with everything I need?
Whats the best, fastest and best looking ROM i can get? or they dont look different because the
boot loader thing? Or they can only be Samsung/AT&T roms? This stuff can be confusing. lol
Module wise, why do i need them? why arent they included in the actual ROM?
Also, is there any App/or way for me to know what causes my phone to randomly crash/reboot?
A few months ago I was at the GYM and my phone randomly shut off. It didnt want to turn back on.
After a while it turned back on, then it would randomly reboot. That eventually went away.
Last night, i was with some friends in a bar and my phone just turned off again. Didnt wanna turn
on...then the same reboot thing happened again.
Today, is working fine. I thought maybe it was an overheat issue but, i wasnt doing anything on my
phone and on top of that im using a CPU tempt program installed through xPosed and according to the
readings it wasnt hot, as it was in the 50-55c (or is that too hot?) Im at home now and its reading
36c but i dont have its case on (if that makes any difference)
There are 3 kind of "ROM"s :
1- Official ones. made by samsung. flashable via odin exclusively. not rooted
2- A bit modified (maybe more than a bit) Official ones, modified by people, flashable via odin or recovery (1), usually already rooted
3- Completely rewritten ROMS, almost made from scratch (Cyanogenmod, MIUI for exemple...), installable via recovery. already rooted
Now, your phone can be in two states : Rooted or not rooted.
From factory, your phone is not rooted (you can compare it to jailbreak)
with root, you become a "super user", which means you have rights on almost every single aspect of your phone, and you give authorisations to apps so they can act on system files (for exemple, they can get hidden informations, they can automatically install apps etc... infinite possibilites there are.)
As for the best rom there is, is like asking what is the best music ever, it depends on the user, you have to try by yourself to find the one that satisfies you the most.
For random reboots, i personally think that it is comparable to windows Blue Screen of Deaths. you maybe messed up something while installing something. your phone can't handle the bug, so it restart or shut down itself. so the safest way to get rid of this problem is to factory reset your phone (via the recovery)
if you are looking for stableness, don't opt for completely remade ROMS, they are usually experimental. but personally i use MIUI and i didn't have any problem and i love this ROM.
Hope i answered every question.
Thanks a lot for the reply.
I understand a bit better now...
That MIUI looks interesting... Reminded me of DreamPassport for my Sega Dreamcast, hah...
I'm guessing I cant install that one huh? Lol
well since you already have a custom recovery you can... just download a miui rom (one for your phone version (be carefull about the model) ) then put it on the root of your sd card, go to the custom recovery and flash zip from sdcard and choose it... but i advice you to factory reset your phone first in order to fix your reboot problem.
also, make sure you have installed the right android version before installing the equivalent miui version (for exemple if you want to install miui that requires 4.2, install an official 4.2 rom first) via odin.
Gotcha. Thanks.
One last question....
If I want my phone with the original OS it came with. But with all the bloatware removed...
which rom would be the best? , since I want the stock experience but no bloatware.
Also...
I noticed when you click to see how much ram is being used, it says
800/1.77GB
Isnt my phone suppose to have 2GB? Can I do something to get that back? is it cause the bloatware?
I appreciate the help.

I don't think the above information is correct.
From what I know the AT&T has a locked bootloader. So you can run custom roms, just not all of them. I think only custom roms that match the version you are using.
You could better read in the section for the AT&T (this section is for a different model).

[Q] ANNOYING S4!! Help needed

Ok guys, here's the deal. i bought a secondhand s4 which was advertised as a google edition. it has a couple of annoying issues, first i noticed it switching itself off and on. the worst problem with it is that when my battery goes reeeally dead it just bootloops when i have recharged. the only way i can get it back on is to start it in recovery mode (which is clockworkmod v6.0.4.4) then do a factory wipe. so yeah thats a major pain. the s4 itself is a red model and behind the battery it says its a gt-19505, however in the settings on the phone it says its a gt-19505g.
my goal is to install an official firmware if possible that i may be able to update easily, the worry that i have is that i dont know if it would then accept my network as although it appears to run google edition custom firmware it may not once i install something official on it. this may be a nooby statement i know but a noob i am lol.
if its at all possible could i keep the cwm recovery?
and if its any help when i load the other boot loader thingy (with the green android on it) in the top left it says gt-19505, im just sayin cus im sure its vital which ever this phone actually is.
here are as many details as i can give but please ask if im missing anything
ANDROID VERSION 4.4.2
KERNEL VERSION 3.4.0-faux123-KK44-GE-Custom
[email protected]omain #20
Sun Dec 1 02:30:28 CST 2013
BASEBAND VERSION 19505XXUFNA1
BUILD NUMBER KOT49H.S001.131204
also upon booting in the top left it says "kernel is not seandroid enforcing
set warranty bit:kernel"
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME And please tell me where to start as i tried updating it via kies to fix it but it just wont connect, i assume due to custom firmware.
The Google Play Edition S4 devices didn't come in any color but white. Therefore, this is an I9505 with a custom ROM on it. The download mode screen reading GT-I9505 confirmed it.
Since this is an I9505 and not an I9505G, the main question is whether this device will work with your SIM card. For that, simply insert your SIM card and boot the device. If you get signal, you're good. Otherwise you'll have to unlock the device, either by purchasing an unlock code from one of the sites that sells them, or by trying the unlock methods available on the forums.
This will also help answer the question of which stock ROM you can install on the device. If the S4 doesn't prompt you to unlock the device, then you can install one of the unbranded S4 ROMs available on sammobile.com. After that, you can put the recovery of your choice on the S4, though I recommend TWRP over the other options.
Thanks for your help. I'm a little confused though, at the moment with this custom google edition ROM it does take my sim, in fact I bet it takes any sim, I heard that was a feature of google play devices. What I meant was after I install the stock ROM will it then not take my sim. So if it has already been unlocked How would I know which ROM to install? As I now know its not a google edition, is it possible to install an official google edition ROM? Do i use this download mode, Odin, or cwm to install a firmware. I'm just not sure what my starting point is. I don't wanna follow someone's guide yet to installing something just in case I'm jumping the gun and need to uninstall this custom ROM somehow.
Sorry for asking questions that I'm sure seem dumb I'm really just trying to learn at the moment I'm green as they come with android. BTW thanks for your suggestions so far, you def seem like you know what you're talking about, cheers
Google Play devices are carrier unlocked, but this is not a Google Play Edition S4. Therefore the device was carrier unlocked at some point in its past. The unknown here is how the original owner unlocked the device. If he or she used the unlocking methods found on XDA there is a chance the lock will be lost when installing a stock ROM.
If the S4 is unlocked, you aren't restricted to a particular region and can install any I9505 ROM using Odin, though I recommend the carrier unbranded ROMs. You cannot install a stock Google Play Edition ROM on the device as the model number of a GPE device is not the same as the device you have. However, you're already rooted and have a custom recovery installed. In I9505 Development here on XDA there is a Google Play Edition ROM that can be installed on your device. Download it to your S4, wipe everything in recovery, then flash the ROM's flashable zip in recovery. I've used said ROM and it works quite well.
OK I have found the 5.0.1 ge ROM , but in there it says I must use latest recovery or whatever plus it recommended one different to mine, is it safe to install using my version of cwm or do I need to learn how to change it??
Deleted by user
TWRP is recommended as there are people who are still maintaining it, unlike Clockworkmod and Philz. While you probably can get the ROM installed using the version of Clockworkmod you have, learning how to change recoveries is useful.
OK thank you for all your help my friend, I will now find out how to do this, I'm sure there is a section on this somewhere, BTW I think you are right about my device being rooted, but I wanted to check and I followed a guide and used super su but apparently its not rooted so I guess something must've gone wrong. Bit scary if I try to change my recovery or my firmware and this causes a brick hmmmmm
It's virtually impossible to brick the S4, especially as the recovery is flashed through Odin.
Phew that's a relief. Thanks man.... Well I'm gonna just risk using cwm for now as I'm new to this........ Thanks a whole lot for your time I really mean that.

I want to, I really do but I'm struggling here. Before I wrote that last comment I tried to find a guide on this forum for swapping to twrp, but couldn't and didn't wanna bug this guy as he had helped enough. Anyway I went to the place he told me and have hit another wall anyway because I don't know how to use the firmware the relevant kernel or the git. My life is so busy and I'm getting about an hour on this subject a day and its gonna take forever lol
If you can help me on my way even a little its much appreciated, I would like to use twrp and the 5.0.1 ge plus the right kernel of course

Follow the Odin guide. It's excactly the same when you flashed CWM.
@Lennyz1988: The S4 was bought secondhand and already had CWM on it from the original owner.
@killfrenzy: Follow the guide Lenny mentioned, but don't worry about the second paragraph. Our device isn't one of those that restores the original recovery on boot.
ok will do, i just tried the app install method but as i suspected, it said root is required for this app and promptly exited so i shall do the odin method, i heard that some people remove root or it could be that it was done wrong. also after reading a few posts here and there i found out that someone had similar issues with their phone random re-booting and they had custom ge with the wrong kernel so it seems once im done my issues should be history if i learn how to install fw + kernel, after this twrp thing i will be one step closer for sure. i also know ppl slate lollipop but once im all done with this im sure i will have picked up enough terminology to install cfw's to my hearts content. hooray for forums and people like you, sounds like im kissin ass but its just gratitude
so using the twrp install guide i gotta install using the odin method i have now got 3.07 odin but this is the next step.........
Odin Install Method (No Root Required):
You will need to download and install Odin on your PC. Once you have Odin installed, download the proper .tar file for your device from the download link above. Power off your device. Turn on your device using the proper key combo to get into download mode and attach the device to your computer via a USB cable. Use the PDA tab or button to browse to and select the tar file that you downloaded and flash the device.
lololol nothins ever simple i see the list of tar files in the link above but no mention at all as to which is the proper .tar for my device, i guess they assume the guide is for people who have done it before. more research tomorrow maybe i gotta be up early ugh

Think you misunderstood, I have flashed nothing yet I got it like this. I'm completely green
Don't suppose anybody knows which is the tar file for my device?? S4gt-19505
OK now I get it, the list of tars in that section are all the same just newer builds of the same version. Seems obvious if you have done this before, but I wasn't to know that and cannot assume things. I'm also gonna guess and say Lenny thinks my s4 needs this particular version for an international, am I right?? Anyway it would've made a lot of sense but how does he know. I have no idea what this phone was I have never owned it new.
Different devices have different codes. For example, jfltexx is the I9505. A T-Mobile S4 would be jfltetmo, and so on.The link Lenny provided is for the I9505. Download the 2.8.6.0 version as its the latest.
As to how you were supposed to know, having never owned one, you weren't. There are tutorials in the General forum though that can help.

[Q] Accidentally killed stock recovery

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the forums so if I am breaking any rule or regulation, just give me a heads up. So, some basic information about my predicament.
- own a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from Verizon.
- I use t-mobile network. Works great with no problems.
- phone was successfully rooted via towel root.
I was looking to get cynagenmod on the phone so I started looking up guides and such. Only thing I wasn't aware of was that carrier branded versions can't have their recovery flashed. That said, I used flashify and the clockwork apk. The app did its job, killed the stock recovery, but couldn't load the new one. Now the phone says error, no recovery when trying to access it during boot.
It should be said that the phone still boots and works normally but I really want to get the recovery working so I can at least try again the right way to get cynagenmod working.
My question is, is it possible to get my hands on the stock recovery for my phone and just flash it back to how it was? Basically, how do I fix this problem I put myself in. Of course, I didn't make backups. During the whole process, I figured "if I follow this tutorial word for word, why bother with backups?" look how wrong I was
Any help would be sincerely appreciated. I'm posting this from my replacement phone, not my note 3.

(Need Help) Flashing rom, modem, and recovery

HI many name is Sameer. I bought Samsung S4 from a dealer who sells unlocked and rooted phone.
HE said to me its from outside and its unlocked plus rooted. so i was glad its rooted and unlocked now the problem is i dont see the super su app on the phone but i can use apps that require root access.(weird)
Now when i used to use htc explorer (pico) I never had to install any modems or some baseband thingy so i'm a little confused here.
Goals; I want to install this Rom: JFLTE-GPE
This rom requires latest modem and twrp
Twrp is no biggy i can install it using twrp manager, but i don't know if i can install a modem and i don't even know if i even have to cuz the guy who gave me(mobile) must have installed some modem to make my domestic sim work i live outside US
I want someone to help me on how to install modem and to tell me weither i have to install one or not.
Also i want to know if i install the rom will my device lock and i won't be able to use my domestic sim
I know there are a lot of guides out there, i'm here cuz i couldn't figure them out.
Forgive me for my bad English.
SS of about device for all the info: Screen Shot
I am not absolutely sure about the domestic lock stuff, but when I got my L720, I flashed an entire stock firmware on it, updating the modem, system and everything in the process, yet the phone capability isn't affected in any way. I flashed CM12.1 on it, made a small patch to jump between GSM and CDMA (GPe probably won't need it), and all is well.
Assuming that you don't need to worry about the network problems, you need to learn how to use Odin, and find a latest modem file that's Odin-flashable. Or to save this trouble, you can flash a full latest firmware just like what I did, although this means you'll also have to re-flash your TWRP recovery.
One tip: TWRP is also flashable from Odin, and this is the suggested method.
