[Q] moto defy bricked please help - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so here goes I ordered a defy from e bay with the hopes of unlocking it for my husband for Christmas. When it arrives I find out its been modded to cyanogen mod 7(7.2.0.) so I ordered the unlocking code not knowing that this modded phone can't be unlocked from t mobile. So then I find out that I have to flash the phone with a nandroid rom. I stay up all night trying to figure out how to try to do that. I read somewhere that I have to wipe the partitions and wipe the data so I do that and now I can't do anything except go into bootloader and recovery. So I try to use RSD lite 4.8 and 4.9 tried them both neither sees my phone. I don't know what I did or if the phone is even rooted it just showed the google android thing when I turn it on. At this point I don't know what to do I'm so confused and I really need some help please.:crying:

Maybe a reinstall of CM7 could help you.

If you can get to the Google screen then from stock recovery you could try a data wipe.
As for the rsd lite issue, check your drivers; there are specific drivers for the same, which you could find in the rsd lite thread.
If the data wipe doesn't work(hung on Google) then flash an sbf. Refer to the beginners guide for defy to get info on that

I solved the booting issue by just messing with the phone. So its back to running the cyanogen mod 7. So now my issue is getting this thing free from t-mobile. I have a unlock code but I'm not sure how I'm going to use it or if there might be another way to unlock it. Once again another sleepless night trying to provide a good Christmas. I am eternally grateful for all you guys help as I am a total noob.

Perhaps too late but: When you insert a SIM other than a tmobile one, it should ask for a code. That's where you enter the unlock code

I put an att sim in it didn't ask for a code tried to make a call no joy. Not sure what to do screen says no service. Can you unlock with cm7?

If no code is asked that means the phone is already unlocked. Try changing the baseband via the baseband switcher app for network issue. Just search around here and you'll find the thread. It should work after setting the right baseband.

Clockworkmod recovery

Hi all. Im from the uk and have got the ATRIX on orange. I've rooted it using gingrebreak and all is good. I was just looking through rom manager and found that clockwork now has support for it. I want to install it but just need to know if it will work on my uk ATRIX, and if there's anything else I need to do like unlocking the bootloader? I've rooted and installed custom roms on my htc desire, which now runs f1 gingerbread and works great, so im not a complete noob lol. Just need a few pointers. Any help would be greeeeat. Cheers

You'll need to have an unlocked bootloader to install this CWM build.
Ahh I see lol. Do u know if the uk orange bootloader can be unlocked yet? Thanks for replying

Yes it can! You'll have to start in the Atrix Development section, and go to the sticky that starts with [PUDDING]. That's where you'll find your unlock. There are a couple of guides floating around, so make sure you follow those completely!
I shall take a look and ill keep u posted. Thanks a lot

Did this yesterday on my Telstra Atrix, bricked my phone, had to reinstall OLYEM_U4_1.4.2 and everything else from scratch, got boot error after install of CWM
Bricked? Maybe ill look some more before I commit to it. Might just wait a little longer for update then who knows. Hope ur ATRIX is well again

He didn't hard brick, which is unrecoverable. He simply soft-bricked. He might not have unlocked his bootloader properly, or messed with something.
A hard brick can only happen if you flash an OTA update with an updated bootloader, and try to flash an older SBF file. That, in turn, would require use of NVFlash to unbrick, but NVFlash requires you to have your SBK, which seems impossible to get.
He soft bricked. That means that he just can't boot into the OS, and is easily fixed by restoring via Nandroid, or using an SBF file with RSDLite.
I have an international phone (Bell) and you need to flash the bootloader sbf. the international one is called IHOP then you can continue on to flash CWM, not sure if youve already done this but if you need help let me know.

Unlocked bootloader, 2.3.6, want to relock and go to stock, sbf?

I just wanted to know, I unlocked the bootloader on my atrix 4G on 2.3.6 but I'm having random restarts and I just wanna revert back to stock and see if that will fix it. Do I just find and flash the 2.3.6 sbf via rsd? Any help is greatly appreciated, I've spent hours looking for an answer but no one seems to know or want to help.

Flash a fruit cake if you can find a link for it since they are all dead and that will get you to stock but you will still be unlocked.

That's another problem, with all the links dead I can't find anything. Idc about being unlocked forever, as long as I can hopefully flash something to make this phone stop restarting by itself.

That's basically just flashing 2.3.6 sbf through rsd, if someone else can confirm that this works then I will give it a whirl.

there's no known way to "relock" the bootloader, the only thing available is that you won't see the "unlocked" at the top,but bootloader still will be unlocked.
You could have just spent a couple of minutes and looked through the threads.
Here a few threads regarding using RSD, two of them from just a couple days ago:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1549599
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552145
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552843
I have commented in all of them because I have used RSD in the past. But PLEASE, read/research as much as possible before attempting anything.
Also, "Search" does work:

I've spent days looking for an answer but always failed to find exactly what I needed. so call me dumb or a noob, but everything I found had dead links. thanks a lot for the help though
Well, I can help you out finding things if links are broken. I was mainly commenting on the discussion of using RSD but if you are having issues with dead-end links I can look around as well. Can you be more specific in what you're needing? Did you want "Factory"-stock or stock as in just back to Blur? Have you tried a fruitcake?

I did the same thing. I kept having Sleep Of Death and random reboots, so I flashed the 4.5.141 sbf. Everything was fine. If I do the unlock with pudding the SODs return. I don't like the stock ROM and Motoblur, but I can't flash anything via fastboot only after I do the unlock procedure, even if it says I'm already unlocked at the end. Any help would be appreciated.

I unlocked on 2.3.6 with the unlock tool, and yea those sleeps of death were a pain in the a**. Seems to have gone away after flashing the sbf, one question though, can I reflash cwm through ROM manager and try to install a different ROM still (since it should still be unlocked?)
Btw I love xda and thank you guys for the help!

I tried that. It gives Failed To Boot 2 if you try to load up CWM. It still acts as if it what locked.

Yes. It said it flashed ok, but when trying to reboot into recovery it says Failed to boot 2, Entering RSD mode. But I went into fastboot and did fastboot reboot, so it didn't brick or anything like that.

When you do fastboot can you keep scrolling down to select android recovery? You have to press volume up upon seeing android recovery. Just wanna make sure, Idk your level of android savvy so don't take offense lol

the android with the exclamation mark is the stock recovery as far as i know
From what I have seen in the forums, when flashing the SBF you have to, at the very least, redo the fastboot commands for unlocking > "fastboot oem unlock". I have used RSD three times and I always just re-flashed pudding. Whether or not "pudding" is necessary to run the commands I have no idea.

Razr HD stuck on carrier spalshscreen

Hey guys,
My Razr was on stock ICS rooted. It is a rogers device. I downloaded an app on the device, reset my phone and got stuck on the boot screen. I have entered recovery mode and tried wiping the cache and factory reseting but still nothing. Any help will greatly be appreciated. Thank you!
If the wipe didn't work your probably going to have to install RSD Lite on your PC and restore the original ROM via Fastboot.
I can't find a good link for you ATM, but I found this video for the original RAZR, very similar (identical) process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDKg_9V2MtI
I've had to do this on my phone after screwing up my build.prop file.
Thanks for your help dreamliner! I presume i need to flash the rogers version right? any idea where i could find that?

[Q] Motorola Defy MB525 stock rom + simlock

Hello guys
Friend of mine gave me Motorola Defy to flash into stock rom as guy from local repair shop told him that this cannot be unlocked to all networks as long as its run Cyanogenmod and there is must to install original stock rom.
I have downloaded stock droid developers in ".sbf" extension and was researching xda in order to find out how to flash it but more I researched more I afraid become to do it.
I have found so many warnings not to downgrade that phone to Froyo, some posts saying not to flash ".sbf" at all but asked you guys for help.
Is there any safe way to reduce possibility of bricking this Motorola to the minimum?
Could someone advise me what should i do in this case? Should I give up flashing?
Helpful informations:
MB525 - on the label under the battery
MB526 - detected by system CM11-20140731-NIGHTLY-mb526
Recovery - TWRP
Thank You in advance for any help provided.
Regards

Hi, you can try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50699347&postcount=511 to unsimlock while staying on cm11, but no idea if it will really work.
I have flashed my defy many times without any problems, i have used a sbf from this list http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537 and kept it as reference in order not to use a downgraded sbf.
Just make sure the defy is fully charged, rsd lite + motodrivers are installed .

Flashing with RSD Lite didn't want to work as program didn't want to discover my phone, found another solution which is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775913
Simple and works 100% even when my phone didn't turn on because wrong sbf, I could flash as many as I wanted to get the working one, which was mb526 2.3.6 version surprisingly
...
But now I need to get this devices rooted and all xda tutorials are about reflashing rooted sbf and installing twrp after that. Could someone advise me how to recognize rooted sbf which will be compatible with mb525??
I have tried framaroot to avoid flashing again but it didn't work unfortunately.

Any help would be welcome. my device was runnin on stock tmobile eclair version 1. I tried a factory reset on stock recovery but no go and I dont have any custom recovery.

If all else fails, flashing an SBF with RSDlite should work; it's the one advantage of having a locked bootloader. Check the all-in-one guide for details, esp. on efuse/CG levels if you want to be able to fully revert to the stock eclair.
The problem at this point will be finding an SBF file, as it appears the droid-developers archive is no longer working...
Yeah. Thanks I already fixed mine.
