htc evo 4g = threatens voicemail - EVO 4G General

I recently sold a metropcs andriod smartphone to an white man early today, he went to metropcs store and pay the $50 monthly bill to get the phone working. 2 hour later he called me and told me that metropcs internet is very slow and ask for his money back because he is very frustrated and angry. White man who is an AT&T iphone user and totally brainless about smartphone because the only phone he know how to used is a iphone. I told him no on the refund part, so he left some threatens voicemail that he going come to my house and do sh** to me, well he actually don't know where I live, he might go to metropcs store and get my address from them and come threatens me. Should I call the cops on his ass if he really do come and threatens me...lol..
Can anyone give me some inputs on this subject, the phone number that the white guy pay to activate is under my name, will he be able to obtain my information such as house address from metropcs? Will metropcs disclose my information to the white guy? if metropcs do disclose my information to the white guy and he came to my house to do whatever he say he was going to do to me then can I file a lawsuit and take metro to court for violating my right? I don't want to meet him again and give him a refund because he threatens me with some crazy voicemail..lol..

dude, wtf? is this a serious post?
There should be no reason any carrier can activate a phone under someone else's identity unless they have your permission, account info, etc. Did you sell someone an active phone?
If you are truly concerned with this and this is a real statement, then call Metro and have them cancel the account. If it is under your name, then you should have no issues doing so. Then have them remove your information from this account. You may have to do this yourself, I sold a phone under Virgin mobile and I called them and had them remove my info from the account. They may ask you if you are sure, lol but just say yes...
Dont ever sell an active phone...Always delete all personal information from the phone before selling it and reset it back to stock...

The phone wasn't working, got disconnected for like a month, I got a new contract with T-Mobile with the s3, before I sold it to the guy I did do a reset to default, yea maybe I should give metropcs a call now and ask them to remove all my information on the account since I sold the phone to another party

[Q] The Streak Order Page Looks Unlocked to Me !!!

What do you see? Here is my screenshot in case the page disappears. I see that it should be UNLOCKED but you get an additional discount if you sign with AT&T, right?

I went through the entire thing .. stopped before paying .. it NEVER says ANYTHING about AT&T only.
Maybe there are unlocked units out there for sale. Going to try and buy one and get the discount ...
THIS WAS THE FIRST PAGE I WENT TO I am typing this and now it says "early sign up no longer available." but I have completed everything EXCEPT, paying for it. The price changed back to $549 .. but still .. Shouldn't it be unlocked ??
Here is the ORDER LINK that does NOT say it is LOCKED .. If you began your order from there you never saw anything about LOCKED ... Couldn't you tell them UNLOCK MY PHONE NOW !!!
This was the second page .. still .. does not say ATT ONLY ... I got that order page from a Dell guy on Twitter ..
I think its still locked. I dont think Dell is legally obligated to spell out that the Streak is locked on every page. If it wasnt, it would be all over the net by now. Would be cool if it were true though. Try it and see
One more thing and I will shut up ..
I ordered from here - So did others that thought they were getting an unlocked phone for $549 ...
http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/mobile-streak?c=us&l=en&s=eep&cs=6099
There was another order link ... That was for the AT&T only people ..
http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/mobile-streak?c=us&l=en&s=dhs
OK .. I am done .. I have traded my AT&T locked Streak for an UNLOCKED Beta. I am happy. STILL .. I want to speak to Dell again .. I feel that they owe me ..

Why don't you just return it back to dell and either get your money back or a credit to use when they sell the unlocked version later this week, month or whenever. I have a Texas beta and ordered one of these for my son thinking it was unlocked. I am just going to call them on monday get an RMA and send it back. No Harm, No Foul. If you need an unlocked one right now go to Ebay...What special people do you mean? The people in Texas, or just random special people other than you?
#1 Why don't I get an RMA and send it back ?? I spent 3 hours on the phone today trying to get an RMA. After being on the phone for 40 minutes and then getting transferred to the FINAL person I needed to speak with about the RMA I was on hold for 7 minutes and it disconnected. When I called back and spent I don't know how long with them I got to the Sales Return Specialist .. She said someone will call me back and discuss this with me within 48 hours. You may find that hard to believe but you will see for yourself what it is like calling Dell for anything.
#2 Special People. Everyone got an email saying CLICK HERE to pre-order your Dell Streak. On that page it says the phone is locked to AT&T .. On Twitter someone posted a Pre-Order link .. A different one. When I showed that link to one of those "chat support" people I said .. Was I or was I not on a UNLOCKED Streak order page. He went from the beginning next >> next >>> to the end and he agreed. My phone should be UNLOCKED ordering from there.
So that has nothing to do with Dell putting a disclaimer on every page. That order link was for an unlocked phone ..
I told my friend with the Beta to hold off a bit .. I am either going to get a Dell UNLOCKED Streak, not Beta, or I am going to return my phone and forget it. That is if I can get an RMA number .. Good luck getting yours. And yes, I totally believe there are people who got unlocked phones .. but I was not one of them ..

About 10 minutes on the phone, RMA issued and Prepaid UPS shipping labels emailed to me so I do not have to pay for that! They tried to get me to keep it by giving me $50.00 back, but have Tmo so I said no go.
See No harm No foul...easy. Good Luck!
Just finished talking to someone name Shaquellar in the Dell Mobility department. She confirmed that the unlocked Streaks will be out this week and she also said "we don't have a way of giving you an unlock code today but we will a little later this week." maybe if enough people call and speak to them in DELL MOBILITY they will put a rush on it .. But you gotta get to the Mobility department .. sales or orders are NO HELP AT ALL.

Received a text from [email protected] to my Sprint phone?

As the title, says, I received a spam text this morning from that address (yes, a text.....it is not an email) and my phone has never been flashed to Metro. I've had it since one week after the release date, and it has never left my hands. I rooted it myself, and I can tell you with certainty that no MetroPCS info has ever been flashed on this phone.
Has anyone else gotten this or something similar? The area code of the phone number is a local number to where I live. There is no option to text back STOP or anything to prevent them from sending future texts, and the fact that it comes from MetroPCS really has me scratching my head. Any info would be appreciated as my Google search turned up 1 million useless results.

Have you ever been a customer of that buisness. I get text from local places because I have used my cell as my contact number.
it sounds to me like you put your number where it shouldntve been
SPAM text, gotta love'em
I have never been a customer or even heard of this business. I am very internet & technology savvy and I know better than to enter my phone number online or anywhere. I have it registered on the national do-not-call list and I go out of my way to avoid getting my number into the hands of telemarketers.
The fact that it comes from MetroPCS as if I were one of their customers is the weirdest part, IMO.
It doesnt necessarily come from them, whoever is doing it could be spoofing the address.
I would call sprint and tell them you are getting spam from this messages. They will open a trouble ticket, and will attempt to block that person from sending them to you, and investigate why they are sending them.

Sexting? Well, my girl has a Palm Pixi, which would be a spinner to my Evo. lol If you meant texting other phones, then no. My phone has not sent any texts which I didn't send myself. It makes me wonder if this has something to do with those apps that require ridiculous permissions that it should not need to function. I'm thinking my phone number may be getting sent out to telemarketers that way.
I just got off with the phone with Sprint, and they asked me if I enter my phone number online, or if I use my phone to text in votes for anything to which I answered no. The rep put me on hold, and I received some texts saying that AIM TXT is now off. I asked the rep about it and she said that may or may not resolve the issue, but to contact them if I do receive another spam text.

Look at the first line under "How to Register." Cell phone numbers were and continue to be released to telemarketing companies since 2005. So you should register your cell number if you haven't yet.

Hi there I am also in Miami, and have Sprint as well. I am super cautious about giving out my cellphone number. I got a text message identical to yours.
I actually called ariesblinds.com in Miami and got the managers name and number.
Manuel at (786) 443-3746.
He sounded genuine I told him I have never been at his store and how did he get my number.
He said he just paid $300 to an SMS Marketing company. I told him he just cost me 10 cents. He just sent me a bill for 10 cents. Because each text costs 10 cents to receive.
Not sure if this is even allowed by FL law.
Its very suspicious I had just come from, paying my Sprint bill and the rep at the store wrote down my number on a piece of paper which I thought was creepy.
The only people who have my cell phone number are a handful of friends and family.
Other than that Best Buy Mobile Rewards is the way my number could have gotten into the hands of a SMS Marketing firm.

The thoeoy sounds good, but I bought my phone at Radio Shack and I avoid full-retail stores like Best Buy at all costs. I doubt they would have my number to give out, as I haven't shopped there in many years.
I would like to know the name of the SMS marketing company he paid those $300 to.
Sounds like the company that got the $300 could be [email protected] since they were the ones that sent you the spam.

Just got a phone call from Sprint.

Basically, they somehow know that I am rooted and I have never even taken my phone in before for anything. I don't know how this is possible as I rarely even touch the hotspot feature. Not sure what I'm going to do, but they said that I have 72 hours to restore the phone back to store bought conditions or my service will be terminated. At least there wont be an ETF fee..

No disrespect, but I won't believe this until I hear it myself.
That, or there is more to the story other than just rooting.
I have never heard of such a call...possibly a practical joke. My question is all the phones rooted..ehu not a mass email ....sounds phony...
I'm with sirmx on this one. It doesn't say anywhere in the contract with sprint that you can't root/hack your own phone. It does say something about excessive data usage and roaming. So if you have been using your Evo as a modem (tethered via either usb or wireless), it's possible that they have caught ya
All of the phones in our house are rooted.
Sorry, I just don't believe this and I find it more than convenient that this post comes the same day as this one.
So, if this did happen, it's not because you were rooted...it's because you did something like excessive, abusive data usage or some other contract violation.
Rooting is NOT a contract violation.

Clearly this is not true, as company policy clearly allows 84 Hours, not 72 to return it to stock. This is company policy #100%BS.
Lets not forget that the feds ruled within the last year roughly that it is not illegal to root your device, but your carrier still had the right to deny you services, so they can't force you to unroot, but they can cancel your service.

If you're comfortable with your legalese, here's the official statement:
http://www.copyright.gov/1201/2010/Librarian-of-Congress-1201-Statement.html
I wouldn't unroot.
What number called you?
I'm with tomh1979 on this one. I though the fed decided it was legal with the iphone jailbreaking. Wouldn't it be the same with android??
Did they also threaten to kick your dog?
Have fun with it
Give us the number that called and that will reveal the truth behind it.
Whether thay actaully called him or not is wierd.
As far as illegal, rooting is not illegal.
However, SPRINT can reserve the right to terminate your service for any reason, it's their company. Just means that you won't get any criminal penalties.
But, I also call BS on this. I don't think sprint give s hit about root.
But those people that root and play PS3 or xbox or P2P, why do they wonder why their service is disconnected? Don't be stupid and do that.

Exactly. It voids your phone's warranty, but sprint has no right to force you to unroot or cancel your service. There is nothing in the contract that says you cannot root your phone. It's YOUR phone, you bought it, you can do what you want with it.

[tip] best way to get AT&T to give up a micro sim without asking too many questions

[tip] best way to get AT&T to give up a micro sim without asking too many questions
yeah, sorry to dedicate a whole post to this, its not such an important thing that it needs a thread of its own, but i think its something pretty important, and itll fall back to the later pages if others dont find it important enough to comment on, so i guess no worries.
if youre coming from pretty much any other phone youll have a normal SIM card. but if youre getting an SGSIII youll need a Micro SIM. now the tricky part is getting AT&T to give it up, without asking too many questions, and trying to get you to change plans (cause nobody wants to give up their $10/month unlimited data for a $30 limited, right?).
heres what worked for me
well speaking from experience, i tossed a few ideas around in my head, till i came up with one i decided to use, and without a hitch, AT&T gave up the microsim for my phone on a Media Net data plan.
1 first off, go into a store in person, dont order over the phone. AT&T call centers have a lot more pull over what goes on than an in store salesman.
AT&T authorized retailers have the least pull of all, since theyre only licensed to sell phones, they dont work for AT&T directly, and are least likely to care about corporate affairs. how can you tell the difference between a corporate store, and an authorized retailer? well authorized retailers normally dont have real display phones, but rather plastic models. however calling the AT&T store and asking them if theyre a corporate store or not will be the best and easiest way to save you a drive.
2 what i did, was explain to them that i bought a sim to micro sim adapter, so that i can more easily travel abroad, and use foreign simcards, because in japan, microsims are the new standard, and that for now i want to use get a micro sim, so i can keep my adapter inside the phone. i brought in a flip phone, and they checked the IMEI number, and gave me a brand new Micro Sim!!
its important to note theyre allowed to charge $30 dollars for a sim replacement, but if youre nice and friendly, theyll usually give it up for free, at least the times ive gone in they have.

I guess I don't follow.... we're pre-ordered, we'll get a Micro SIM for the phone when it arrives, they're not going to let us walk out without one to use in the phone, right? Furthermore, I think you forgot a step 3, which is to activate it over the phone with Customer Care or in store once the SGSIII arrives
Or you could just have a sim cutter shipped to your door for 5 bucks and not have to go out of your way at all.
The OP's statements were in regards to the international version, not the variants like your preorder.

I just walked in and said I want a micro sim. She asked to see my phone. She said micro sim won't work in it. I said i have this adapter. She said ok, scanned new sim, and gave it to me. I popped it in and was good to go. Ready for my S3.
Where do u live? Lol I've done this 100 times. They don't charge ****. And u don't have to say all that bs u just say I NEED A MICRO SIM CARD. Lol done. No charge. U have to go to a corporate store that's it

Yeah, you really don't have to jump through any hoops to get a microSIM card. Just go in and tell them you need one.
Thank you for this information. I plan to do just that to try and get a new micro sim card for my upcoming purchase of a Samsung Note 2. AT&T thinks I am using an old flip phone right now with unlimited data and I sure don't want them ot switch me over to a new plan.
Like some poeple said it may not be necessary to have a 'story' ready but thanks for providing a good one just in case.

yeah, sorry to dedicate a whole post to this, its not such an important thing that it needs a thread of its own, but i think its something pretty important, and itll fall back to the later pages if others dont find it important enough to comment on, so i guess no worries.
if youre coming from pretty much any other phone youll have a normal SIM card. but if youre getting an SGSIII youll need a Micro SIM. now the tricky part is getting AT&T to give it up, without asking too many questions, and trying to get you to change plans (cause nobody wants to give up their $10/month unlimited data for a $30 limited, right?).
heres what worked for me
well speaking from experience, i tossed a few ideas around in my head, till i came up with one i decided to use, and without a hitch, AT&T gave up the microsim for my phone on a Media Net data plan.

Yea I got my phone 1 day too late lucky me right?
Not to sound like an idiot but searching for a simple answer as I already assume by the writing - fine print that I don't qualify.
- Already been a Netflix Subscriber for several years and currently paying per month on their service.
- Bought my Verizon Galaxy Note 4 back in October/2014 upon release date already.
I assume the later disqualifies me. Just looking for confirmation that I am reading this correctly

You are correct, you would need to purchase the device between January 4 and 17 to be eligible.

Whats sad about this.. If people wanted to be a real ass and stoop to low levels. Like most deals they go back during return times so people who just purchased are not short changed, well what happens is they could go back and do return and new purchase. This is why most deals like this go back past weeks to avoid store return periods. It would be dumb for people to do but yet some people would do it for spite to get a neyflix deal.
It seems prizelogic is running this promotion.
Good luck!
Where there is a will, there is a way.
Enjoying my free year of Netflix now. They sent me the approved email this morning and the code for Netflix. I assume the, "+MilkMusic" is just the regular free one as there was no mention of it in the approval email.
What about Dev Edition?
Has anyone tried to register with the Dev Edition? When you register it asks for IMEI and Wireless MAC. I bought a couple of them and neither IMEIs are working. Comes back as invalid IMEI.

So how did you get them to approve you
Got a VZW Note4 on 1/4/15 and submitted it that night. On the 9th, I got an email saying they received my submission. Have not received the activation code yet though. The fine details at registration said it may take up to 3 weeks.
Finally got the Dev edition to register. It still said invalid. After getting this email response, I did as stated and it went through.
Thank you for your interest in the Netflix Gift With Purchase. If you are receiving an Invalid IMEI/ Serial Number message, please return to the site and enter your information again. If the error pops up and you believe your claim is valid, please close the error message, make sure your receipt is still in the uploaded field, and hit submit again. The next screen will tell you to verify your image. Select continue and your claim will be submitted. A confirmation screen and email will follow.

Just wonder what are you using as the receipt? The conformation email?
I just scanned the receipt that came in the box.
