As the title, says, I received a spam text this morning from that address (yes, a text.....it is not an email) and my phone has never been flashed to Metro. I've had it since one week after the release date, and it has never left my hands. I rooted it myself, and I can tell you with certainty that no MetroPCS info has ever been flashed on this phone.
Has anyone else gotten this or something similar? The area code of the phone number is a local number to where I live. There is no option to text back STOP or anything to prevent them from sending future texts, and the fact that it comes from MetroPCS really has me scratching my head. Any info would be appreciated as my Google search turned up 1 million useless results.

Have you ever been a customer of that buisness. I get text from local places because I have used my cell as my contact number.
it sounds to me like you put your number where it shouldntve been
SPAM text, gotta love'em
I have never been a customer or even heard of this business. I am very internet & technology savvy and I know better than to enter my phone number online or anywhere. I have it registered on the national do-not-call list and I go out of my way to avoid getting my number into the hands of telemarketers.
The fact that it comes from MetroPCS as if I were one of their customers is the weirdest part, IMO.
It doesnt necessarily come from them, whoever is doing it could be spoofing the address.
I would call sprint and tell them you are getting spam from this messages. They will open a trouble ticket, and will attempt to block that person from sending them to you, and investigate why they are sending them.

Yea, that makes sense. I think I will, just because I get really annoyed by these spam texts. After I talk to them, I will post any information I get from them.

Sexting? Well, my girl has a Palm Pixi, which would be a spinner to my Evo. lol If you meant texting other phones, then no. My phone has not sent any texts which I didn't send myself. It makes me wonder if this has something to do with those apps that require ridiculous permissions that it should not need to function. I'm thinking my phone number may be getting sent out to telemarketers that way.
I just got off with the phone with Sprint, and they asked me if I enter my phone number online, or if I use my phone to text in votes for anything to which I answered no. The rep put me on hold, and I received some texts saying that AIM TXT is now off. I asked the rep about it and she said that may or may not resolve the issue, but to contact them if I do receive another spam text.

Look at the first line under "How to Register." Cell phone numbers were and continue to be released to telemarketing companies since 2005. So you should register your cell number if you haven't yet.

Hi there I am also in Miami, and have Sprint as well. I am super cautious about giving out my cellphone number. I got a text message identical to yours.
I actually called ariesblinds.com in Miami and got the managers name and number.
Manuel at (786) 443-3746.
He sounded genuine I told him I have never been at his store and how did he get my number.
He said he just paid $300 to an SMS Marketing company. I told him he just cost me 10 cents. He just sent me a bill for 10 cents. Because each text costs 10 cents to receive.
Not sure if this is even allowed by FL law.
Its very suspicious I had just come from, paying my Sprint bill and the rep at the store wrote down my number on a piece of paper which I thought was creepy.
The only people who have my cell phone number are a handful of friends and family.
Other than that Best Buy Mobile Rewards is the way my number could have gotten into the hands of a SMS Marketing firm.

The thoeoy sounds good, but I bought my phone at Radio Shack and I avoid full-retail stores like Best Buy at all costs. I doubt they would have my number to give out, as I haven't shopped there in many years.
I would like to know the name of the SMS marketing company he paid those $300 to.
Sounds like the company that got the $300 could be [email protected] since they were the ones that sent you the spam.

I went through the entire thing .. stopped before paying .. it NEVER says ANYTHING about AT&T only.
Maybe there are unlocked units out there for sale. Going to try and buy one and get the discount ...
THIS WAS THE FIRST PAGE I WENT TO I am typing this and now it says "early sign up no longer available." but I have completed everything EXCEPT, paying for it. The price changed back to $549 .. but still .. Shouldn't it be unlocked ??
Here is the ORDER LINK that does NOT say it is LOCKED .. If you began your order from there you never saw anything about LOCKED ... Couldn't you tell them UNLOCK MY PHONE NOW !!!
This was the second page .. still .. does not say ATT ONLY ... I got that order page from a Dell guy on Twitter ..
I think its still locked. I dont think Dell is legally obligated to spell out that the Streak is locked on every page. If it wasnt, it would be all over the net by now. Would be cool if it were true though. Try it and see
One more thing and I will shut up ..
I ordered from here - So did others that thought they were getting an unlocked phone for $549 ...
http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/mobile-streak?c=us&l=en&s=eep&cs=6099
There was another order link ... That was for the AT&T only people ..
http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/mobile-streak?c=us&l=en&s=dhs
OK .. I am done .. I have traded my AT&T locked Streak for an UNLOCKED Beta. I am happy. STILL .. I want to speak to Dell again .. I feel that they owe me ..

Why don't you just return it back to dell and either get your money back or a credit to use when they sell the unlocked version later this week, month or whenever. I have a Texas beta and ordered one of these for my son thinking it was unlocked. I am just going to call them on monday get an RMA and send it back. No Harm, No Foul. If you need an unlocked one right now go to Ebay...What special people do you mean? The people in Texas, or just random special people other than you?
#1 Why don't I get an RMA and send it back ?? I spent 3 hours on the phone today trying to get an RMA. After being on the phone for 40 minutes and then getting transferred to the FINAL person I needed to speak with about the RMA I was on hold for 7 minutes and it disconnected. When I called back and spent I don't know how long with them I got to the Sales Return Specialist .. She said someone will call me back and discuss this with me within 48 hours. You may find that hard to believe but you will see for yourself what it is like calling Dell for anything.
#2 Special People. Everyone got an email saying CLICK HERE to pre-order your Dell Streak. On that page it says the phone is locked to AT&T .. On Twitter someone posted a Pre-Order link .. A different one. When I showed that link to one of those "chat support" people I said .. Was I or was I not on a UNLOCKED Streak order page. He went from the beginning next >> next >>> to the end and he agreed. My phone should be UNLOCKED ordering from there.
So that has nothing to do with Dell putting a disclaimer on every page. That order link was for an unlocked phone ..
I told my friend with the Beta to hold off a bit .. I am either going to get a Dell UNLOCKED Streak, not Beta, or I am going to return my phone and forget it. That is if I can get an RMA number .. Good luck getting yours. And yes, I totally believe there are people who got unlocked phones .. but I was not one of them ..

About 10 minutes on the phone, RMA issued and Prepaid UPS shipping labels emailed to me so I do not have to pay for that! They tried to get me to keep it by giving me $50.00 back, but have Tmo so I said no go.
See No harm No foul...easy. Good Luck!
Just finished talking to someone name Shaquellar in the Dell Mobility department. She confirmed that the unlocked Streaks will be out this week and she also said "we don't have a way of giving you an unlock code today but we will a little later this week." maybe if enough people call and speak to them in DELL MOBILITY they will put a rush on it .. But you gotta get to the Mobility department .. sales or orders are NO HELP AT ALL.

I recently sold a metropcs andriod smartphone to an white man early today, he went to metropcs store and pay the $50 monthly bill to get the phone working. 2 hour later he called me and told me that metropcs internet is very slow and ask for his money back because he is very frustrated and angry. White man who is an AT&T iphone user and totally brainless about smartphone because the only phone he know how to used is a iphone. I told him no on the refund part, so he left some threatens voicemail that he going come to my house and do sh** to me, well he actually don't know where I live, he might go to metropcs store and get my address from them and come threatens me. Should I call the cops on his ass if he really do come and threatens me...lol..
Can anyone give me some inputs on this subject, the phone number that the white guy pay to activate is under my name, will he be able to obtain my information such as house address from metropcs? Will metropcs disclose my information to the white guy? if metropcs do disclose my information to the white guy and he came to my house to do whatever he say he was going to do to me then can I file a lawsuit and take metro to court for violating my right? I don't want to meet him again and give him a refund because he threatens me with some crazy voicemail..lol..

dude, wtf? is this a serious post?
There should be no reason any carrier can activate a phone under someone else's identity unless they have your permission, account info, etc. Did you sell someone an active phone?
If you are truly concerned with this and this is a real statement, then call Metro and have them cancel the account. If it is under your name, then you should have no issues doing so. Then have them remove your information from this account. You may have to do this yourself, I sold a phone under Virgin mobile and I called them and had them remove my info from the account. They may ask you if you are sure, lol but just say yes...
Dont ever sell an active phone...Always delete all personal information from the phone before selling it and reset it back to stock...

Just trying to offer some helpful advice . Anyways i felt that maybe Samsung verified you had the device in your hand by doing the wifi mac address thing by detecting that you are currently connected to the wifi with that device. i dunno......
Same here, maybe it has to do with these phones schedule to be released on the 17th and they may not have the IMEI's active in their systems.

I was able to submit my Sprint Note 2 through the website. I had two hex numbers under device status. The shorter number didn't register but went through when I submitted the longer hex number. For my Sprint device, the longer hex number had an additional two digit prefix.

Yes. Folks at tmobile said the site is to verify that the trade-in device has clean esn etc.
I did NOT write down my trade in devices' imei or wifi mac address.... because in noplace on the samsung promotion site did it say we had to.
But i believe it's the note 4s info that you have to input? I got on a chat with a samsung rep and she said it is because the note 4 is officially released for us on 10/17 so starting Friday the site will work for us.

You're correct, the site does not specify whether it's trade-in device or new device. I guess we have a month and half to figure it out.
I'll post some more details as soon as I hear back from Samsung. I mailed the documents through usps.
Edit: I found the instructions under official rules of the page. It's the numbers for the pre-ordered device and not the trade-in device. Resubmitting documents tomorrow lol.

Yea I got my phone 1 day too late lucky me right?
Not to sound like an idiot but searching for a simple answer as I already assume by the writing - fine print that I don't qualify.
- Already been a Netflix Subscriber for several years and currently paying per month on their service.
- Bought my Verizon Galaxy Note 4 back in October/2014 upon release date already.
I assume the later disqualifies me. Just looking for confirmation that I am reading this correctly

You are correct, you would need to purchase the device between January 4 and 17 to be eligible.

Whats sad about this.. If people wanted to be a real ass and stoop to low levels. Like most deals they go back during return times so people who just purchased are not short changed, well what happens is they could go back and do return and new purchase. This is why most deals like this go back past weeks to avoid store return periods. It would be dumb for people to do but yet some people would do it for spite to get a neyflix deal.
It seems prizelogic is running this promotion.
Good luck!
Where there is a will, there is a way.
Enjoying my free year of Netflix now. They sent me the approved email this morning and the code for Netflix. I assume the, "+MilkMusic" is just the regular free one as there was no mention of it in the approval email.
What about Dev Edition?
Has anyone tried to register with the Dev Edition? When you register it asks for IMEI and Wireless MAC. I bought a couple of them and neither IMEIs are working. Comes back as invalid IMEI.

So how did you get them to approve you
Got a VZW Note4 on 1/4/15 and submitted it that night. On the 9th, I got an email saying they received my submission. Have not received the activation code yet though. The fine details at registration said it may take up to 3 weeks.
Finally got the Dev edition to register. It still said invalid. After getting this email response, I did as stated and it went through.
Thank you for your interest in the Netflix Gift With Purchase. If you are receiving an Invalid IMEI/ Serial Number message, please return to the site and enter your information again. If the error pops up and you believe your claim is valid, please close the error message, make sure your receipt is still in the uploaded field, and hit submit again. The next screen will tell you to verify your image. Select continue and your claim will be submitted. A confirmation screen and email will follow.
Thank you,
PrizeLogic Support

Just wonder what are you using as the receipt? The conformation email?

Heard the news. Called my credit card. Luckily there weren't any other purchases except for the 5T. Blocked it anyway for peace of mind.

I used a Chase Credit card to buy my 5T and today received a note that my e-mail address was changed on my Chase account (to an e-mail account I never used). I use a password program generated password full of gobbledygook number and letters so I couldn't figure out how it was hacked. I spent an hour of the phone with the fraud unit and they couldn't figure it out, only speculation. They just didn't know if it was associated with OnePlus or not. The hack didn't charge anything but drained the account of reward points. Chase is making me whole again, but I still suspect it was from OnePlus based on all the complaints. I guess it's PayPal for me for all future Asian purchases.
Update: OnePlus disables credit card payments on its website in wake of reported security breach | Phone Arena
If you've done any credit card payments on OnePlus.net, it's advised you keep an eye on your payment history and statements.

yeah, bought the phone in december and the CC got compromised yesterday.. still waiting for the bank's investigation though
From OP:
Dear user,
We are deeply sorry to inform you that following an attack on our systems, your credit card data may have been compromised. This data includes the card number, expiry date and security code that you entered at oneplus.net.
As soon as we were made aware of the attack, we launched an urgent investigation. We suspended credit card payments and have been working with a cybersecurity firm to reinforce our systems.
We recommend that you check your card statements and report any charges you don't recognize to your bank. They will help you initiate a chargeback and prevent any financial loss. If you run into any problems, or need further guidance, don't hesitate to reach out to us.
Meanwhile, we are looking for a suitable way to offer one year's credit monitoring to affected users. Credit monitoring is a service that alerts you to any abnormal or fraudulent use of your credit card. We will be in touch over email with details on how to claim your credit monitoring.
Once again, we cannot apologize enough for this incident and the trouble it may have caused you. We have informed the relevant authorities to monitor your card status, and will take measures to ensure this never happens again. If you have any questions, our customer support team is available at [email protected].
Our deepest apologies,
The OnePlus Team

Yeah, saw that. Probably a good time to just proactively call your credit card company and report it lost/stolen and reference the data breach and have them issue us new cards. I just ordered my phone last week, so I may be in that breach.
I guess I was one of the lucky ones (this time) as I used PayPal. I think I used PayPal so that I could have the charge billed to my AMEX card. I don't recall if their CC processor took AMEX and I wanted to get the purchase protection with the card. Either way, I had enough fraudulent transactions/identity theft last year including taxes fraudulently filed using my identity that hopefully I can skip this incursion.
My card was charged for yahoo advertising space, I quickly cancelled the card but now feel super pissed about how OnePlus is handling the situation. I don't need any credit monitoring, my bank takes care of that (I have some added services) - I'm thinking about getting a refund and going full pixel 2 xl. This is such a ****ed up situation.
What do you expect them to do? I'm not beating you up asking but I'm curious because offering credit monitoring is what they all do in data breaches and as the horse is already down the road there is little more than can do. We'll see if they were sloppy in their security practices as it moves forward but for now we don't know that end of it. I do find it odd that you're considering Google which had a data breach more than 30 times larger as a go to answer.
This isn't to say I'm not POed, I've been trashed by Equifax, Tmo, Premara, and one other I cant even think of right now and here I am canceling my card and getting a new one sent in this latest bit of fun. The first time I remember being hopeful that I had taken my turn at being unlucky and that perhaps I wouldn't be hit again. Time and experience has changed that to me becoming fully confident I'll be right here again before long because it's pretty obvious the thieves are better at getting our data than companies are at protecting it.
I wont even buy anything online if I cannot use PayPal. I've always considered entering your CC information into a web page as about as secure as giving it over the phone.
It appears that OnePlus was following industry standards:
While OnePlus appears to have been following standard industry practice for encrypting data before sending it to the credit card processor, the problem appears to be a small window of opportunity, after the user has entered their data into the web form and before they hit submit. A tiny snippet of code, placed in the right place on OnePlus’s webpage, could capture the relevant credit card information and send it directly from the user’s browser, without the unencrypted credit card info ever being seen by OnePlus. That explains why only users who entered a new number into OnePlus’s system were affected by the breach, not users who had a saved credit card or used PayPal.

In today's day and age, it's not a matter of if, but when your personal data will be compromised. I have dealt with data breaches, from Equifax, T-Mobile, BCBS, Home Depot, IRS and more. I have even suffered identify theft and tax fraud as a result of one or more of these breaches. They all offered credit monitoring, it's all they pretty much do. The best thing you can do, IMO, is stay on top of your financial and personal data via monitoring etc.
Not sure I would be bail on OnePlus because of the issue, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Meh, it happens to all sorts of companies, not much they can do once the damage is done. I just had my card issuer issue a new card, just to be safe.
If you want to stay safe you need to use cash... Face to face transaction (and hope the guys friends aren't hiding in the next room waiting for you to flash the wad of cash)...
Unfortunately as the world gets more technical, so do the thieves...

You should have a unique email address for your bank accounts. Do not use it for Paypal, as that email is public.
Also consider two-factor authentication.

Cash is safe? You know how many people get mugged and robbed for cash in fake meet ups from eBay or Craigslist? haha
Online, all you have to do is cancel your card or dispute a charge. Face to face you have physical danger to worry about. Face to face, I switch from concealed carry, to having a Glock 19 openly on my hip. lots of people prey on face to face meets because they know that you are showing up with a wad of cash.
Happened to me. They hit my account on Wed. I know because I used a card I never use online for this one purchase. My bad but sucks either way
