Send Nexus 4 for Repair - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Just received my nexus 4 and have a strange issue im quite sure is hardware related. This is not my first device im quite familiar with dozens of android devices and have owned all Nexus phones. When connecting my phone to the computer (Any Computer) the phone with charge but there is no recognition from the computer that a device has been attatched. I am 99% sure this is hardware related as on 5 differnt computers this is the case and all my other phones ave no issues. The Notification LED also seems to be acting up as well it often remains on for long periods of time however VERY dimly lit, I think there is some sort of short going on.
I was hoping someone here could give me some advice on how to send it back or contact someone who can help. I have bought the Phone in Edmonton Canada.
Thanks for any help,
Blaiz

I had my Nexus 4 for two weeks and I dropped it. The front screen is broken and unresponsive.
I called LG Canada and they were no help at all. They said that they did not cover any products purchased on the internet, only ones purchased through retailers. I tried to explain that this phone is only available in Canada through Google but no luck.
I then called Google Play Support for apps and they were able to give me the number for device support. After three calls to device support, I was given the number for LG in Texas. I am sending the phone there for a repair estimate.
I'm away from home right now, but if anyone wants the 1-800 numbers I can post them in a day or two.
UPDATE: Visa is covering my repair bill up to the cost of the original purchase. My visa has a 90 day accidental damage policy that is automatically applied to every purchase!

No it's not a hardware issue .
My nexus had the same problem to the point where I was nearly going to format my PC. You need drivers for your PC to discover your phone. Just to double check plug in your phone for to device manager and check if there are any devices with yellow rectangle and exclamation mark. If not you have to uninstall and remove most USB drivers in the device manager ...

I'll take that number when you can post it. LG Canada gave me some number in Mississauga to call for their repairs but there's been no answer there at all. I wouldn't mind a second option ... my back glass is cracked

I called Google Play for Devices
855-836-3987
They connected me to LG Wireless in Fort Worth, TX
800-793-8896.
Hope that is helpful. I just shipped my phone to LG in TX today, so we will see what the repair bill is for a front screen that is shattered.
I have a BEST SKINS EVER skin on the front screen, so no glass is missing from the screen. The skin kept it all in place but unfortunately the touch screen was completely unresponsive

I think someone posted it before. Getting the shattered screen repaired by lg cost around 150

I got my Nexus 4 back from LG after breaking the screen. It was $140 to repair. But now I have some issues with updating Google apps. Any Google app that I attempt to update gives me the message "Package file was not signed correctly. Uninstall the previous copy of the app and try again."
My version of the Android OS is 4.2 and I am surprised that it has not auto-updated to 4.2.1.
I have attached the OS version screenshot and the Google Play error message... any thoughts?
I also noticed a couple of apps on the phone that I have not seen before. Just wondering if these would be useful to the devs.

The model and build number doesnt look like stock. must be some sort of development build. best option would be to do a factory reset
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
make sure all the drivers are installed, and just click on the flashall.bat file which would do all the work for you

Ya, I was wondering about that. When I turned on the phone for the first time after getting it back from LG repair, I was in a FTM mode. I booted to the "normal mode" from there. Everything seemed normal from that point, then I discovered the extra apps on the phone and the funny looking build number, etc. as well as the inability to update any of the Google apps.
Is there a way for me to pull the apks from the phone for those extra apps? Just in case any devs have use for them. I do have the Nexus 4 toolkit, but it doesn't recognize my phone anymore since I got it back from LG.

+1 to that i would also like to know this info.

$140 for a cracked screen repair is for Americans (LG repair center in Texas). I called LG USA and they advised me that the repair center will only accept american IMEIs and to contact Google or LG Canada for Canadian repair info.
I called Google and Canadians need to send their phones to a 3rd party for repair, this is the 3rd party that LG/Google have chosen:
Canada -*
ALL TECH-NEEK ELECTRONICS LTD. (ATNE)
310 Brunel Road
Mississauga, ON Canada, L4Z 2C2
Tel*:*905-629-9321
Fax*:*905-629-7553
Web site : www.atne.ca
I sent my phone yesterday (cracked back + front) and it was delivered to them today.
I'll keep you guys updated when they call me to give me a quote on the cost and turn around time.

Same here! I'm sending it today to ATNE. They told me it would be 240 CAD (tax included) as the minimum cost (could be more if there is more damage)
inb4: Sad Story Bro

Wooooow. I'm guessing my quote will be higher then because both the front + back got cracked when the phone fell. I'm guessing it'll be mighty close, if not more than a new unit.
After I get my quote, I'm going to send Google Canada a hand written letter on how this is BS. LG/Google should regulate the price of out-of-warranty repairs like they do in the states if there's only one repair center that they'll officially provide parts to.
I knew that the Canadian 3rd party would take advantage of being the only ones who can repair it. This is why I wanted to send it to the states in the first place. One week turnround + $140 sounds fair to me but nope, only American IMEIs will be accepted there.
I'll let you guys know what they quote me for the front + back and will also ask how much for just the front so its posted here for future reference.

Warranty Test - UK Vodafone - Unlocked Bootloader

Well the USB port on my Nexus is dead. Have wiped, reflashed, taken sim and memory out, tried charging from wall, from car, and from computer and nothing. It doesn't mount on the mac.
So I was pretty resigned to losing it. But I need a phone, so took it to Vodafone store, who have sent it off for repair.
Thing is I forgot to flash the stock ROM back onto it, so they are getting a rooted MIUI ROM, with unlocked Bootloader.
I suspect I am going to get a call in the next few days saying they can't do anything with it.

Not necessarily. If the engineer investigates the internals of the device and can see the MicroUSB port is dead then it really shouldn't matter what ROM you're running. However having it repaired by Vodafone is a completely different matter than HTC, just wait and see!
As a Vodafone customer with an unlocked Bootloader myself, i'm interested in seeing how this turns out!
also intrested as a vodafone customer to see if they fix for you . good luck
I wouldn't worry to much, mines been sent to htc twice with no issues. First time I received it back with a locked boot loader and the 2nd time they replaced the hardware leaving the custom rom. Doubt vodafone would even notice

Can't you send it directly to HTC? I'm also in the uk, but bought my phone directly from Google. I think I have a 2 year warranty.

Well we'll soon see, just got a text to say it's been received.
VOdafone just rang, to say that they've diagnosed that the USB port is not working (which is awfully clever, asI had told them that).
They then said they are now sending it on to HTC! So not sure what the point of sending it to them was.
Still, no-one mentioned it was rooted or bootloader unlocked.
+1 for interest.
I am too a UK Vodafone customer.

Lol, i wonder how long it took them to work it out, especially after being told what the problem was.
So it seems that Vodafone either don't care about the mods or just don't check in the first place. Either way they are sending returned devices off to HTC for repair and many people say that HTC have honoured warranties regardless of custom ROMs etc. Sounds like you'll get a good result.
EDIT: There is one reason that i can see for sending to Vodafone rather than direct to HTC and that is the postage cost. Vodafone will send a prepaid Special Delivery pouch, or in some cases a courier if it's a device swap. Unless i'm wrong you would have to stump up the postage cost yourself if you are sending to HTC.
I cracked my Nexus one screen some time ago (I'm on T-Mobile sim only contract), all I did was send it to HTC directly and they fixed it with no problems...I guess next time just send it to HTC directly..
and postage is paid for by HTC, they send you a prepaid UPS label which you print and stick on. Instructions I got in my e-mail
Instructions:
1. If you are sending your phone remember to remove any SIM cards and storage cards that you are using with it. Remove the battery, the battery cover, and any other accessories. You will be keeping these items.
2. Please also backup any important information you want to keep before shipping your phone. We are not responsible for the preservation of data or for returning storage cards. Any personal data on the phone or microSD card will be lost.
3. To prevent any possible shipping damage securely cushion and package the items in the box so they are not loose. We suggest using nondescript packaging if available.
4. If you have chosen to receive a prepaid mailing label, it will be sent by FedEx to your email address within 24 hours. The prepaid mailing label will expire 8 calendar days after receipt. Please print and affix it to the outside of the box. If you have made an arrangement for pickup with us, please have the items fully packaged and ready for the courier to pick up at the scheduled time.
5. We have placed a credit card on file for authorization purposes only. If out-of-warranty repairs are required, you will receive an email asking you to accept or deny the suggested repair actions. If you do not respond within 5 business days, the triage fee of $28.00 and shipping costs will be assessed and the phone will be sent back without any repairs performed.
6. All items should be shipped to the following location: Communications House Presley Way Crownhill, Milton Keynes, MK8 0ES, United Kingdom

Yeah, so they had to replace the digitizer and wasn't covered under warranty (well because i dropped it lol) cost me a crazy £105 ! oh well, the service and delivery was efficient got it all done within 5 days.
I am informed that it will be back at the shop tomorrow so I will soon find out what happened. i can at least assume seeing as they haven't said otherwise, it's been fixed, and free of charge as they wouldn't repair it before informing me of the cost.
I suspect it will come back with a front facing camera Gingerbread, or even Ice-Cream, and some sort of light sabre capabilities.......

I imagine it will come back in a solid gold, diamond encrusted shell with sapphire crystal glass screen and the ability to cook a nice breakfast for you.
Failing that it will be nice if it just works again and you can't beat free for a price

You can root without unlocking it, that's what I did. Should I have any problems I'll just stick a stock ROM and recovery on there and it'll be as stock as the day I got it
Well I got it back, flashed with 2.2.1 and it's now S-on (is that a locked bootloader?)
Radio is 32.50.00.32U5.12.00.08
Kernel 2.6.32.9-ge8111ea [email protected] #1
Build FRG83
Now I've got to go and relearn how to unlock/root it!
They're meant to be S-ON, unlocking the bootloader doesn't change that.

9th exchange, at the very least.

Hello everyone,
I need some advice or suggestions on what to do. The Mytouch 4g, as you all may know, has a lot of problems. I've done many exchanges now, and some of them were done back to back. The first few times, TMO was able to ship express for free, but now they are charging me $9.99 for regular ground shipping even though the phones that I receive are defective. I am very frustrated at this point and have been thinking about canceling all 4 of my lines with them and eating the $800 ETF. What do you guys think I should do?
You may be wondering why I have to exchange it so many times..
Unlike the fellow perfectionists that you guys are, I never exchanged a phone that had a bad screen or squeaking buttons. The first time I exchanged it was because it had two dead pixels, then the power button would no longer work, then there was a ton of dust under the screen to the point where I had trouble seeing the top left corner where my status/notification bar is, then I had wifi and reception problems, then I've had the phone either shut off or reboot on its own.
I've been running into many, many problems - and they are not always the same problem either. After the third phone, all they have been doing is sending out refurbished units that are 'pre-damaged' by the previous user. On top of that, I have to pay for shipping on each phone, plus the Zagg's invisible shield (it's about $23 with labor on installation) that I had on several of the replacement phones. After troubleshooting for hours on end with tech support, I noticed that my battery cover is loose since they had me reboot/remove battery so many times, I ended up buying the gel skin case from TMO yesterday so that the battery cover wouldn't fall off.
I would be glad to take any advice that you guys have at this point. Thank you.
Edit: By the way, I did not have any apps other than opera mini - didn't even update youtube and things like that.
The statistical likelihood of getting 9 defective devices in a row is astronomical. Truly. If you are being honest and these are all really manufacturing defects then you sir are the unluckiest ****er ever and you are never welcome to babysit my kids. I don't really have any advice except to say that if your next problem is software related, try rooting and see if that fixes it. Otherwise I would avoid crosswalks and commercial flight if at all possible. Damn dude. Unlucky...

They can offer to give you a different phone all together. Like the g2 or galaxy 4g. Just ask

Do this. Call tmobile and tell them the issue with your device. Have them do another warranty exchage, but, instead of getting it shipped, tell them that you really do not want to wait once more to receive another device shipped and that if you can go into a tmo store and pick up a warranty replacement. They shouldn't have a problem telling you yes. Have them call the store so they can tell them you will be going in to get a warranty replacement. This way for sure you wont get a refurbished device. You will be getting a brand new one out of the box. This is the way I did my warranty exchage. They even gave me an extra battery for free.

I agree with coupetastic-droid and also after your 5th replacement you should get a different phone if u want for ur replacement. Try for a g2 or even a g2x!

TJ you crack me up. I actually went through this guys episode with a mytouch slide, 5 phones under warranty, but they never charged me a dime for shipping. The one and only issue i had with the Mytouch slide was dust under the screen. I can't remember if it was the 3rd or the 4th replacement i got in the mail, but that one came with dust in all four corners. Didn't even insert a SIM card in that phone just took it down to my local Tmobile store and the manager exchanged it for me. After the 5th replacement with dust i decided to sell it and replace it with a MT4G. Well it was all good for a week until my power button failed to work, 1st exchange. They made me pay the 9.99 shipping for that one. Receive the new phone and i notice the display sucks compared to my wife's MT4G. Instead of calling in to tmobile i drive down to the local Tmobile store and i show the manager my predicament ( mind you this is the same guy that was exchanging my Mytouch Slide). Nice guy orders me another MT4G, waived the shipping. 3rd phone arrives a few days later, display is washed out, but i decide to live with it. Figuring that if i exchange it again I'll get another one with the crappy display. F**K me if the power button doesn't work after two weeks. I go back to the Tmobile store and have another chat with the manager, orders me another MT4G and waives the shipping. Manager tells me, "You're the unluckiest man i've seen with a phone", and i said "yes, yes, I am." Last exchange was the charm, good screen, and the power button actually works. I honestly thought i was the only poor bastard that could be this unlucky with phones. I have to show my wife this post, so she doesn't think i'm the unluckiest man alive. You sir have just made my day. If you can i'd go to a local tmobile store and see what they can do for you. Best of luck.

First of all, nice 'Lude. I just picked up an 07 Civic Si Sedan on Saturday and I ****ing LOVE it!
2nd, are you running stock Sense or rooted? To be perfectly honest I've found the stock Sense to be much more buggy than the cm7 I've been running for the past 3 or 4 months.
My first phone had random reboots and such and a factory reset seemed to solve the issue, but I'm assuming they had you do that multiple times.
Even if the phone is fresh out of the box, do a factory reset before you use it. It might help, it did for me.
Otherwise check out cm7 or one of the Sense roms around here. Removing all the bloatware actually does wonders for stability. If you really want I can upload a nandroid of my own stock rom with the bloatware removed.
On my 3rd mt4g and I'm about ready to go back to iPhone most androids have to many hardware issues.

First of all, yeah.. my Lude is old news. Since then, I've switched to an S2k, but that got stolen. Now I'm in an 06 Evo.
Anyway, back on topic..
The phone is completely stock. This is the FIRST PHONE I've ever owned that I have kept stock - Why? Because I don't want to have to unroot it when I send it in for warranty repairs.

Unrooting is as simple as flashing pd15img.zip through hboot. Not that hard.
Definitely try a different rom. As I said I've found cm7 to be much more stable than stock.

i got pretty bad luck with my phone. finally got a good one after like 9 exchanges and a month later the power button went out. i called them and they told me i couldnt exchange anymore cause i "had too many problems with the phone." so the rep told me that the only thing they could do left is to exchange my phone for a motorola charm.....i was like wtf why the heck would i want to downgrade my phone, which polly cost more then that piece of **** charm and it doesnt even run android...major downgrade.
Dude. That blows. Hard. I'm sorry to see that you're having so many problems with your phone and I'm glad I don't have the same luck as you. I got mine from eBay and it came in perfect condition. Never had dust under the screen, good screen, no faulty hardware, etc.
But in all seriousness, after 5 phones, I wouldn't keep it. I personally think that it's a great phone, but if I had to take it back 9 times, I'd try something else out. Ask if you can switch. It shouldn't cost you anything as long as the retail price is equivalent or lower than the MyTouch 4g, and if I'm not mistaken, it's one of the higher priced ones (rightfully, so). If you don't hate a keyboard, the G2 might be good for you, but I hear the hinge has problems and knowing your luck, the hinge would break apart upon first use. So maybe the Galaxy S 4g? I know Samsung has great hardware, even if their software is crap, as is their update schedules, but that is easily fixed with custom ROMs.
Either that, or wait and return it completely, if you're still within your return time and keep your upgrade for when the better phones come out, i.e HTC Sensation, etc, and just use something affordable off of eBay or Craigslist. Meh
Just my two cents. Sorry if it didn't help much, but I hope your luck gets better. :/
Update:
My luck has gotten worse. I received another replacement phone on April 15th. A week later, April 22nd, I noticed a dead pixel on my screen.
*Sigh* I have no idea what to do now.
You need to move on to a different device. I've never heard of anyone have so many problems with a device.

I called in and spoke to technical support. They asked me to bring the phone to a store so that they can fill out a request for warranty exchange form. However, their tone basically implied something like, "It's impossible that you are getting so many broken phones. We need to verify that your phone is really defective before we do another exchange."
I brought it to a store and the retail sales manager had no idea why technical support sent me there, and basically told me to go call customer service again. He did, however, notate that there were a few dead pixels on the screen and that there was no physical, nor was there water damage.
I then called retentions and the supervisor picks up (without any transferring either). I explained to her exactly what happened, and how technical support had sent me into the store. She told me that she has no idea why because they could have filled out the form for warranty exchange over the phone, just like the other exchanges that I have done so far.
She apologized for what happened and said that I qualify for a multiple exchange (sorry if I got the term wrong!). She said that the manufacturer would exchange my Mytouch 4g for a Motorola Charm..
I explained that it would be a MAJOR downgrade. She then submits the form for the exchange and told me that it would be shipped express free of charge.
So you getting another mt4g or the charm? I'm still teipping about them offering you a charm over a mt4g. They are nuts!

Really? Not to be rude, but maybe try using Google next time.
This is what the Google Play store will tell you:
The Nexus 4 is manufactured by LG. LG provides a limited 12 month warranty for the Nexus 4. Please refer to the warranty card in the Nexus 4 packaging for additional details.
If your Nexus 4 was purchased from Google Play, please contact Google customer support for service on the LG limited 12 month warranty.
If your Nexus 4 wasn't purchased from Google Play or you're looking for out of warranty repair service, please contact LG directly.

Log into Google Play through your N4.
It should then pop up in your account as your device.
Report the Issue.
What's the problem?
What is not to get. The op bought from eBay. He wants to know weather to rma to Google or to LG.
As you cannot know If it's bought from Google or a reseller your only option is to rma directly to LG. Visit there website and check their rma process

Is the speaker rattling or do you hear something when you shake the phone? The camera can make some noise when you shake the phone.
But if you hear distorted noise from the speaker, then okay.
I happen to be in the exact same boat as the OP - got a phone with a really funky earpiece with crackling during calls, to where the crackling doesn't go away unless the volume is lowered almost all the way down. And I've been around phones and electronics enough to know that this is most definitely a defective speaker (also the calls sound perfect when listening via earphones or headphones, so the problem is with the speaker all the way).
I just got off the phone with Google to see about the possibilities of doing a return like the OP suggested, saying that I bought the phone off of "my friend" who got lucky and bought an extra on launch day. The rep said I would have to have my "friend" (i.e. the eBay seller) put in for a return/replacement, have the return label sent to me so I can send it in directly, and then have a new phone sent back to me directly. But this really isn't doable for me, because I can't afford to be without a phone for any period of time. Sooooo, basically I think I'm screwed here, at least until the phones are available once again through Google Play and/or TMobile, at which point I could purchase one from them and return this defective one in its place, thereby avoiding not having a phone for any period of time. I'm seriously sick to my stomach over this, this blows.

This is how Google RMA works
First, you do not need to ship your phone until you get the replacement.
the catch
they place a hold of the value of the device (minus the taxes and shipping) on your cc , once you return the defective device it will be removed.
the problem you have
you got it from fleebay and am pretty sure the seller would want a hold of 349 on his card (assuming you got a 16gb) for you.
resolution
wait for the parts to show up on fleebay and change the speaker on your own.
My rattle is coming from a slightly lose volume rocker button. Check to see if it's just that that's doing the rattle.

Nope, here's what's gonna go down (and I know how Google RMA works), but my particular situation is actually a bit different from the OP. See I originally purchased an N4 on launch day, but had to send that one back for a refund (screen issue). At the time I didn't even think - and it wasn't offered to me - that replacements were available, given the fact that everything was sold out everywhere. So at that time I just opted for the refund, and knew I would then look to purchase on eBay. I then purchased the phone that I currently have from eBay, and it turns out that this one actually has earpiece speaker problems (my luck sucks!). But, given that my original order had been received by Google but not yet refunded, I called Google and asked about switching my "refund" into a "replacement", which we have done (arrival of the phone in a couple of weeks). So now the rest is very easy - I will receive the new phone, then call the request a return/refund for it, and send the my defective earpiece phone back in its place. And before the usual douches come out of the woodwork to make their comments on "ooh you shouldn't do that", might I please remind of what a horrible time that myself and so many others have had with this friggin N4 experience? In light of that, I really don't give a crap and don't care one bit. Its time to look out for #1 for once. :good:

I am willing to bet that they will care. Plus they have your credit card number, so it's not like they won't be able to do anything about it.
Anyway, how you choose to conduct your transactions is a personal matter.
However, please don't get us in trouble and refrain from discussing fraudulent actions here in public.
Thank you!

Why isn't anyone mentioning the fact that in order to place the request for an RMA unit you need to use the email address that the original Nexus 4 was purchased from Google Play with?
If you do not have access to the email address used to make the initial purchase you are screwed.

Send it back to LG for repairs $100-160 cost
I'd look for a local cell phone place that does repairs, yes the nexus 4 has the glass that wraps the edges but you can always show them this and if they say yes they can repair it then I'd let them repair it..they should warranty their work and you won't have to be without a phone ..id do it that way pending on the price compared to sending the phone in for warranty work.

Hey what exactly was wrong with your screen. Mine works fine, but just has a cracked appearance. This means that they will only have to replace the glass aka digitizer but not the LCD underneath. There for my repair should be cheaper than most people. What did you have to get replaced? I'm curious if my repair cost would be less than yours. Thanks.

Yes, you are right... Nexus 4 is the best looking smartphone I have ever come across so far... And Truth is I am never used to cases or covers for phones, and If at all I have to cover with a protection case, it is waste of the killer beauty again..That is why I await Larry's promises to be true on xPhone/Next Nexus(For Google I/O'13), as he said “In today’s multi screen world, the opportunities are endless… battery life is a huge issue… when you drop your phone it shouldn’t go splat,”... My decision was utter wrong on Nexus 4, I'm a hardcore nexus fan... After I get it fixed, I buy a cover and give to my brother....
UK Repairs service
Hey Guys,
Just wanted to say I've cracked my phone as well (woe!), less cracked-rather than smashed in multiple places. Was just minding my own business playing a bit of Ruzzle whilst pondering the questions of life on the toilet...
Anyway, called up LG support (make sure to find their cheaper phone number from saynoto0870 website); and was told they'd send me an envelope with details on the repair.
If you go on the website to schedule a repair, it'll tell you they carry out fixed price repairs at £130. This should leave the phone under warranty.
When I received the envelope, it was a letter from a company called Regenersis; who appear to be the repairs company responsible for a lot of outsourced repairs internationally. They also appear to be the source of some internet ranting due to bad customer service (seems to be a general trend with these third party repairs companies).
Anyway, sent phone off yesterday so will try to report anything back with regards to prices, results etc.
BTW this is for UK only, although I suspect LG will do something similarly for most other countries with regards to repairs.
I think they should have made the back out of flexiglass.

So just called up Regenersis on Friday morning and they gave me a quote of 122GBP for full repair, service and postage back to me. 8 pounds cheaper than the fixed price on the LG page. So paid via direct debit over the phone and have been told it should be sent off in a few days as both the phone and parts are ready to be put together. I would expect to receive it sometime mid-next week. Will post back on repair results. (If the quality is good, it would have been about the same price as buying my own screen from Ebay. It would probably take aprox. the same amount of time due to long postage times; though the main advantage being that I keep my warrantee).

Hey guys,
Final update on the phone repair situation. I received my phone this morning from Regenersis after a total time since send off of aprox. 2 weeks since registration on the LG repairs website. (What more of a present could I ask for on my Bday!).
Anyway, in summary; the repair itself after paying took only 1-2 days.
To my surprise the experience overall with these guys were reasonably pleasant despite the bad reviews on the net. Although I suspect that's the standard scenario where someone will only complain when something goes wrong.
Either way, the repair cost less than the quoted guaranteed LG repair price on their website of 130GBP.
Tips for anyone planning on sending their broken Nexus 4 to these guys:
Register through LG repairs service first. Book your slot online, then give the LG guys a call next day to confirm it's gone through so that they can get Regenersis to send through a repair letter with details.
Once the phone is sent off to Regenersis (I'd suggest Royal Mail tracked as this'll allow you to know exactly when it's arrived in Glasgow); give them a call within about 2/3 days to ask about an online quote or otherwise when it'll be examined by their engineers. (I had to wait until next before calling back to ask about the price and paying through the phone via direct debit).
After that I'd suggest giving them about 3/4 working days to repair if they have all the parts ready etc, before calling back to check on progress.
With any luck you'll get your phone back within about 2 weeks.
I've attached a picture of the repaired phone; it seems good as new and there are no scratch marks or signs that the phone has been tampered in any way. (Sorry for the bad photo!).
Edit: Had a play with the phone, a horizontal line across the upper quarter of the screen doesn't actually respond to touch; only has display. Sooo....called up LG again this morning to have them tell me they'll send me another package to send back again to Regenersis... Only one piece of advice, don't for frack's sake break your Nexus 4. Seriously!
Turns out after the repair, the phone was placed back under warrantee status allowing me to raise the issue up with Google themselves. So after a quick call to the US phone line (cheaper with the say no to 0870 redirect phone line), they agreed to send me a replacement. I received it within 3 days from the call and haven't needed to be absent of a phone for over a week if sent to repair again. Now to simply send the broken faulty phone back to google via their supplied prepaid packaging.
Happy repairs guys,
Signing out.

Same thing happened to me today, very minor drop, and complete crack, touch screen is unresponsive... Local LG repair centre does not have it in stock, so I am waiting for an update from him.... It is seriously terrible quality of the phone, I had dropped so many phones hundreds of times, never, nothing happened.. This is really terrible....

Newsflash! LG is not in the glass production business. They receive their Gorilla Glass from Corning, just like most of the other manufacturers out there. If the glass broke from you dropping it, it has ZERO to do with LG's build quality.

Hey guys,
Final update on the phone repair situation. I received my phone this morning from Regenersis after a total time since send off of aprox. 2 weeks since registration on the LG repairs website. (What more of a present could I ask for on my Bday!).

Was your phone repaired or replaced? Was the internal memory wiped?
I have a cracked unresponsive screen and will be making an insurance claim (so slightly different process). Unfortunately I hadn't enabled USB debugging so I'm struggling to get the files off the device before I send it off.
I'll be insisting on a repair rather than a replacement and I don't want my device being factory reset.

Hey Carpetboy,
Mine was simply repaired, but all my files had been backed up to dropbox and gmail so wasn't too bad. My gf had a few things fixed through insurance and they've just replaced it each time because they're not necessarily specialised to deal with repairs; especially if it's a very new phone it seems. Though if it's just a screen repair it might not be too bad.
Good luck dude! :good:

Cheers for the info. I managed to get all the critical files off it last night through the toolkit so I'm not as worried if they just replace it now.
LG Repaired Cracked Screen for $153
Hello everyone,
I recently had my phone repaired by LG. They replace the screen for $153. The repair facility is located in Ft Worth Tx, and the payment center is located in Alabama. It cost me $20 to send it 2nd day air via UPS. Also, I bought another nexus 4, and now am returning it back to google less then 15% restocking fee. Basically, i rented a nexus 4 16gb for $50 over a 2 week period.
Same!

I went to my provider here in Canada as well and it was because my phone over heated and the front glass cracked and my provider told me it would cost about $250 and as I read these comments it makes me question why is it $250 in Canada but only $140-$160 in other countries? its not fair ( well in my opinion it should be the same price just in CAD ) I too need this number! it just makes no sense ! I live in AB so tax shouldnt be the problem neither.

Replacement process

My launch-day Nexus 4 has the rattling and earpiece buzzing problem and I'm interested in getting a replacement to see if they have resolved the issues.
I'm curious as to what the replacement process entails for this phone? Do I go through Google Play or LG? Do I have to send it back first or do they send one first? Also, do they sent out refurbished models or new ones?

The process is that you call Google, they set up an RMA if they feel it's a hardware problem. You don't contact LG, EVER. The just of it is you phone google, they troubleshoot the problem. If they feel this is a defect, not as a result of carelessness.
(Basically I'm telling you, if you phone in, you can't say you've ever dropped it, and that it's had this problem since day one. I'd go as far to say that you "may have used your friends' Nexus and found that his doesn't do the same and sounds clearer on calls")
They will give you an RMA number, and email you a printable UPS label, at this point, you may send your phone back, using the free UPS label, back. At the same time they issue you this label, they put in a request that a brand new unit be shipped to you. If your phone is still functional, keep your phone, and wait for the new one to arrive, then ship yours out the day you get the new one. You have 30 days to return your old phone once the new one ships. If you fail to return the old phone, they charge the new one to your google account.

According to Google, you only have 15 days from the date of delivery to request a replacement or refund. Beyond 15 days, you have to contact LG.

Edit: Apparently, after 15 days, you still have to contact Google customer support. The service is no longer done by Google Play though, it's based on your LG 12 month warranty.
Ok thanks for your help.
Has the new batch of phones corrected the earpiece buzz and camera rattle?
