White band/line across screen - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I'm slightly unhappy, after all that effort of getting the phone (ordered on the 4th Dec at 17:09). I notice that there is a white band across the screen. If you look at the picture below, it is located by the minus across horizontally across the screen from left to right. It is only noticeable when you tilt the screen. I assure you it isn't the pattern from the wallpaper as it is apparent on other screens.
What do you think guys? What is wrong with it? How can I explain this to Google to get a replacement? Thank in advance!

It is especially apparent when the phone is tilted forth and back. Just to add it isn't the background as it occurs whilst watching videos etc

At a guess, did you partially remove the shipping screen protector then place it back on? I say that because it could be a flex mark from the plastic film.

No the film hasn't been removed. However, I have since removed the film to ensure that it isn't something like what you said. but it's still there with the film off

Nexus 7 defects?

How many of you are having manufacturer defects out of the box?
Had a dead pixel on mine that I picked up from GameStop
Also it seems the screen is coming up on the left like if the adhesive is giving out already.
I spoke to GameStop who referred me to play store but then play store said any warranty claims have to be done through the retailer. Obviously GameStop is out of stock but they said they were emailing corporate for me today to ask for another unit to be sent. So I should have mine replaced around Wednesday hopefully.

I got so used to amoled screens I forgot about dead pixels on LCD. Is it possible it being an LCD it might just be stuck?
Anyone ever have any success with one of those stuck pixel fix apps?
Either way I'm doing an exchange because of the screen not being recessed on left side properly. But hopefully no dead pixels on next one.

Lol. Looks like trolling but I did read in another thread a guy had issue with his screen stating to come off his I/O device. I noticed mine while I was holding it on the left side the screen was giving in and making some creaking and such. Upon closer inspection I noticed on the left side/middle area the screen was actually sitting above the frame. Everywhere else it was sitting nicely and recessed under the frame.
Anyway the risk of defects is always going to be higher with the first runs.

Download a dead pixel test app on play store. Its basically solid color backgrounds you alternate so in some cases you'll be able to see the pixel in a red background etc.

Sure...its a bit difficult to see on a picture but its basically the screen rising above the border in one area so the edge of the screen is exposed. That same area is soft as well where pressing on makes the screen move in and out with creaking. The rest of the edges are sturdy.
Dead pixel I'm not posting photo since I'm sure everyone knows what that looks like but its located on the app drawer button in portrait mode. Shows up the most in white backgrounds.

Mine has a similar issue, its on the left middle section. Whatever is holding the screen down is coming loose like the adhesive. The screen works fine but you can see the screen is raised a couple a cm or so. Makes a slight creak sound.
Might contact Asus for warranty and see how they do it or just give Gamestop some time so i can exchange it.

Bet this is going to be a known issue all around. I was able to push it down but i figure its adhesive so its eventually going to happen again and again until the adhesive isn't sticky anymore. Sad days but other than that this tablet is solid.

Well according to ifxit, they are small retaining clips that hold it so i hope its not a broken clip. I could easily put more adhesive down a it looks like it just pops up.

I really appreciate it and thank you. Now I know what to look for once my N7 arrives.
My Gamestop doesn't have any extras, calling Google to see if they can do anything. I would like to see if i can get a replacement sent out and then send this one back but we shall see.
I returned 3 transformer primes for screen defects. Asus qc isn't the greatest. It's probably why they're prices are so good for what you get.
On mine when the brightness is on the lower end the screen starts to flicker a little. I think it's software related. But once you set the brightness higher it stops doing it.
Oh and it only does that on white backgrounds like google voice search.

Excellent device but mine isn't flush on the right side of the screen. (Portrait)
After a few hours of use it's starting to pop if you press midway on the bezel.
I'll get it swapped in due course
Is anyone else able to reproduce the screen flicker issue?

Xperia Play buttons wearing out.

Does anyone else have this issue? Primarily my umm.. My Home and Back button are really worn, like they're losing their gloss/silver finish and are now turning black, I am not sure if this has ever been addressed, but is there a way to buy replacement buttons or re-apply some silver marker ink on this to fix this? I know it's fairly trivial but still. It bothers me, like.. when a sticker starts to peel in just it's corner and kinda curl, it makes me want to rip the whole thing off, OCD maybe!? :silly:
You are not alone
I will be having my Xperia PLAY for a one year at the end of August, during this time I was always caring about it, placing it only on its back, never on its front/touchscreen. But about 3 months ago I noticed that the bottom of back key (about 1 milimeter wide, 2mm long) started to wear out. Also the bottom left corner of search key is worn out, the same thing with bottom left corner of the menu button. But these spots are only mili/micro ones. I don't really care about it.
I think its somehow "normal" if I can name it in that way.
Also I think it's possible to buy new keys but IMHO it's waste of money. I suggest you to deal with it as I did

I was thinking about trying to sand off the rest of the silver bits so they're black. I think that would look better.

I was thinking of doing the same, would be interesting, and yeah it would fit the phone's color scheme (at least mine) if it was all black.
I only had play for five months and it's already happening, my back button is wearing out.
This is probably the worst build quality phone I ever had. I love it so much, I wish the build quality and materials were better

Little black specs appearing on 4 hardware buttons on the front panel ... slightly annoying but no big deal as long as the buttons themselves don't wear out and stop working.
If possible though, I'd like to either replace them or have them totally black.
oh good, I thought it was just me
someone has to sell a replacement part for those keys right? has anyone checked ebay?

Is that case sturdy enough? I've owned some really horrible phone covers so far, one of which being Otterbox. They're not entirely bad, but the Xperia Play's versions are absolutely horrible, if you press the R or L button, it would slide off entirely. Trident cases are nice though, but they don't cover as much.
Mine are worn very well ...

i am starting to think that maybe some sort of resilient silver paint would be better, but here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3n5ZfkqhzE
here's a video on how to disassemble the Xperia Play, maybe you can get to the buttons from there and actually customize them like that?

its the protective coating separating there was someone else having a similar issue but it was one big spot at the bottom of the screen where it was coming off.. Did you ever clean the screen with ammonia products like Windex .This can cause issues with the coating .Other people have commented on dots being on the glass itself as well..
So yes i have heard of this but it sounds like yours is the extreme of the condition..

Google Play store.
Is there an actual problem with the tablet?
I haven't seen any issue till now apart from a light bleed on the screen and an issue with USB transfers which has been fixed from the update. Loving it now.
BTW, where do I get my free google 25$ play store credit and the free movies Transformer and Ice age? I don't have a movie yet on my N10 to test the gorgeous screen...
I watched a YouTube Nexus 10 unboxing video and the factory screen covering had bubbles and was dusty just as you described. The videographer also commented on the dust. I could not believe that this was a fresh from the factory device.
He did take the covering off and the screen was none the worse for wear nor was there any defects as far as I could see.
You may be OK.

That really is reassuring...Thanks a ton. Although I am missing the free content that Google provides to all N10 users.
The N10 doesn't get the additional credit. That was a promo for the N7. Also, ice age should be attached to your account, download Google play movies and goto my movies. You also get some free magazines.

There's an explanation saying that if you had it synced with your account before you received it, (a check box when you ordered it) that Google has to open your tablet at the warehouse and sync it there before it is sent to you. I can't remember where I saw it, whether here or Android Central.

I ordered both 16 & 32 GB from Google Play Store prior to Xmas & the 16gb seals were broken and as someone stated about the synching.....mine did not require that....sent it back for an exchange...they did not give me too hard of a time, but expected more because I paid top dollar ....if I wanted an open unit, would have taken my chances and gotten from eBay. Both SEALED tablets were quite dusty inside of box which surprised me and my husband.

Nexus 6P Frost Bezel Scratching

The Bezel of my Nexus 6P has gotten scratched pretty well from the past 5 months just being in my pocket with no dirt or dust in it. Anyone else having this issue? Didn't have this issue with my White Note 4. I recently did a Android N review on my Youtube Channel @TimesNeverWasted and in that you can kinda see the scratches bezel during the camera pan.
