goodbye nexus1 you will be missed - Nexus One General

hey guys, i switched to the s2, an amazing phone, just want to say thanks to all the devs and n1 users who have contributed and have helped me personally in the past. i am already missing the trackball but i guess the bigger screen and more stable touchscreen really does make up for it. i hope to see some of you on the s2 forum soon, its an awesome replacement. for those planning to get a s3 be sure to check it out in shops before buying, i can tell you its very big and uncomfortable in hand, also to operate properly you defo need 2 hands, also the new nexus 4 is an absolute flop. the fact that it does not have a sd card slot and so little internal was just a instant choice killer for me.
once again a big thanks to all the devs and n1 users who have contributed and have helped me personally in the past.

I'm thinking if my N1 ever dies upgrading back to the Desire and run a JB rom same as I have on the N1 now. The Desire didn't have the digitizer problem that the N1 does and has that bit of extra ram. The hardware buttons and optical trackpad are nicer as well, but I love the glowing trackball notifications on the N1. I don't know if any new/cool phone can ever make up for that IMO.
My phone history went LG Shine plus with android 2.1 > LG Optimus One with 2.2, HTC Desire with 2.2 (stock for a couple weeks then custom AOSP roms from then on) > Samsung GS2X for 3 weeks, then sold and went back to the same HTC Desire > HTC One S for a month > sold and bought use N1 on here way back in the summer and I've been using it since. Favorite phone is between this and the Desire for sure. Sometimes old isn't always bad, if it's still doing what you need it for.

It seems odd that you'd go to a phone that's over a year old and a constant sore for developers because of exynos (I've had an i777 S2 for over a year and look forward to upgrading next summer). Why didn't you go with a Sony or the Optimus G?

From n1 to g2 and back. Anyone else?

So I've had my n1 (two actually, claimed insurance on first one cuz I accidentally smashed it) since its release. Got the g2 on oct4 (west coast early store sell) and today I've decided to return the g2.
I love the keyboard but I'm faster on my nexus one with smart keyboard pro. Battery life is better on my nexus (I think fixed in ota). The g2 did feel snappier overall even with a stock rom, and browsing was in a different league!
Don't get me wrong the g2 is better in every way but not much better. Not enough to warrant $499+tax. If I was upgrading from g1 with full $200 upgrade yes.
I also kept posting my n1 on Craigslist with the dock and kept blowing off buyers. Somehow I could not part with my nexus. I guess I love this phone TOO much. Anyone else have a similar story?

I cheated on my Nexus One with an Hd2 when I thought I could use Android on it... Boy was that a huge mistake!
I def learned my lesson, no more non-developer phones... EVER!!!
Nexus One is the perfect phone for me. It does everything I need perfectly:
- Google Maps Navigation
- Free tethering
- Instant Google Voice text msg notifications
- Free unlimited calls through gizmo/google voice
- Emulators + Bluetooth wiimote support
- DolphinHD browser
- Color trackball notifications
- Voice dictation
- Great Tmobile / HTC customer service
- Updates directly from Google
- Beautiful thin design that doesn't make me look like I have an erection in my front pocket due to a unnecessary hardware keyboard

I did the exact same thing, paid the full 500 and everything. Had my nexus one from march till now, it's been REAL good to me. Got the G2 Oct 6 and returned it today. Definitely nothing wrong with it but like you said, i feel it's not much better, but it's really a nice phone(build quality and everything), on par with the N1. The lady said they wanted to bring the nexus one in-store since so many people ask for it, but its a no go..definitely luv my Nexus One.
Us n1s are rare now... I got phone jealousy from the vibrant but not anymore. I thought the iphone 4 would give me a little tug seeing as I use to be 3gs user.. But I walked in the store picked it up, laughed, and walked away... Compare a picture on the two lol

I thought about going to a galaxys, for the gpu jump. But I wasn't convinced (still not), that it was worth the effort.
For me, there's no real upgrade options until dual-core.
Why you'd sell a phone that its software are in the mature stage for something new?
I bought a vibrant just to play around and the phone sucks, i mean hardware is great but when you look at the dev's forum for the phone you hardly find anything. Only fixes and half baked roms, however the fault is not the community but samsung for being slow and asshats about releasing updates for their phones.
From now on i'd get a phone may be 5 or 6 months after its initial release because i can see how the software has matured for the phone as well as a considerable drop in price.
To me android is a worthless operating system fresh from the carriers because is just full of bloat and limitations, without the community android would be just another big FAIL imo.
So going back to the G2 i think is still too early, while n1 owners enjoy the software stability and new releases, the G2 owners still wait for propper root or samsung galaxy s owners are waiting for 2.2 which is sad.

I agree with how people should wait a few months AFTER the phone is released to think about purchasing. Heck, that's true for ALL electronics. Let the other guys discover all the potential problems and then I'll decide if it's worth it. In the case of my N1... 100% worth it.
You lot disappoint me. I would never cheat on my nexus.
-Sent from my Nexus One Superphone.
I have thought about switching the G2 countless times, but in the end, I just couldnt justify the 500+ for the G2 or leaving my N1.
The G2 is really an updated N1, but the added bulk of the physical keyboard really turned me off. I am going to wait til there is something like the N1 with a 4 inch+ screen.
No point in a G2 unless you want the keyboard.
I tested it out in store and was massively disappointed. I'm faster with Swype.
Not only that but with people reporting hinge problems... Blech. Even if you don't have hinge problems, the added mechanism as opposed to a slate device means more room for hardware issues/failure 6+ months into owning the phone. A slate phone means as long as you don't drop it, no hardware will break.
Also I tested an embedded Flash video in the browser and it stuttered just like my N1. I guess I'll have to wait until the 3rd gen Adreno GPUs (220) to make an upgrade on that front.
Returned mine in 2days
Can someone post experience on hd2 running android? I'm thinking of doing this because I want the 4.3 screen. I have friend that use hd2 with android but couldn't compare to n1 since he doesn't have it.

You can not go from an Android to Iphone especially if you've never used an Iphone. You can go from iphone to android though. The reason why is you take things forgranted with Android that Iphone doesn't do, simple things such as ring tones and alerts sounds.
To original topic the N1 rules, g2 drools
I have my Nexus One sitting proudly on my desk sitting in it's dock playing music channeled into my boss stereo. It sounds freaken fantastic. I also went out and bought the G2 thinking I was missing out on something new and fresh. The only thing I see that is a major plus is the memory. I rarely use the keyboard, use Vlingo for just about all entries into both devices. I'm going to probably keep the G2 but will never give my Nexus One away.. I honestly have not seen a better looking, quality built phone. The extras that you can buy for it and the endless tinkering that you can do. Yep, I love that damn phone, sorry honey go to bed, the Nexus and I are up doing some tinkering.
You guys just made my day with your comments about the N1 ! I ordered one a few days ago - it is unfortunately B/O and I should get it in a few days.
I was also considering the Samsung Galaxy X and I am glad I chose the N1. Froyo was released for the Galaxy yesterday - after a long wait to get the latest version of Android, the users quickly found that the major GPS and lag problems are still present. Beautiful specs on paper... on paper only !
Wow
I just ordered one that will be here on Monday and I'm gettin really excited reading the posts here have had a backflip (was a bad joke lol) now i have the htc aria, its a decent phone, but will have the N1 Monday. Thanks for all the insight and help from the site.

Next Handset?

Morning!
Not that I am one to dance on graves or imply than someone is 'gettingonabit'....but the inevitable truth is that our little Hero's have been overtaken by newer, faster and more powerful models with smaller chins.
So with upgrades, including mine, looming I'm asking... What handset will be next? Why that handset? Or will you be waiting for something even shiniererer to come out?
I for one am being drawn to the Desire Z although I'm not that keen ok it's looks. My ideal would be an Android version of HTC 7 Pro.
Ever since I was literally mugged of my T-mobile Vario, I've really missed a physical keyboard. I'm also hoping for something with a decent battery life, so the Desire HD has fallen like Naomi Campbell in high heels and is out it the running straight away.
Look forward to your replies, peeps!

I'm starting to look around a bit right now too! My upgrade isn't due until about July, but figure unless some nice new phones come out in the next few months (which is highly likely, and they will probably have a price to boot), most of what I'll be looking at on contract is out now!
Desire HD - I like the power but not too keen on the size.
Desire Z - I like the size but it has an 800MHz CPU which is probably ample for my needs.
Galaxy S - I really like HTC Sense, infact it pains me I use a custom ROM on my Hero because Sense is just too slow for me.
I'm even considering a W7 phone - maybe, but I really love the customisability, and geekyness of the Android phones !
my next handset doesnt quite exist yet. I'll retire the hero when I see, dual core, notification light and either a slide out keyboard or a screen above 4.1 inches .. Im hoping htc will bring it.. think I will avoid moto almost regardless as I enjoy custom roms which have kept my hero fresh, to be honest Im upgrading because I cant type easily on the smallish screen/ with lack of physical keyboard.. love the phone otherwise
I decided to take the plunge to WP7 and bought a HTC HD 7 on O2 pay as you go ..as I had never used a Winmob phone before
I love the Big screen and gaming is good although pricey
The phone has problems with the sound and camera but otherwise is a lovely phone
Also being WP7 the apps are slowly trickling in so have to be patient.
My Hero is due for upgrade around 2 months time
so the options I am thinking about are
LG Optimus 2x - Dual core
Motorola Atrix - Dual Core
Nexus S - all for the love of google and front facing camera
Samsung galaxy S - front facing camera
Desire HD - or if Htc comes with any new phones
Nokia N9 - If its worth it
Nokia N8 - Was a nokia fan all along untill Htc came up
Iphone 4 - ZZZzzzzzzzz
I hope HTC seriously comes out with New phones or even Nokia love them hardwares
With MWC in a couple of weeks, you'd be crazy to make any decisions now
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc has also, today, just taken my interest too! Due for around March/April release, looks nice, has Android 2.3 and a descent camera by the looks of things!
I have no idea but defently a HTC. Easy rootable
I am waiting to see which phone takes Feeyo
My next handset doesnt exist yet
I want something the same size as the HTC Hero.
Bigger battery (1800amps+ would be great!)
1ghz ish (Not dualcore!)
dedicated gpu would be nice but dont care too much.
I dont care how fast it is (rooting can always get them faster ) but I want the battery to last well before I root. That way it will get even better!
Also with a good Dev community... In fact put that to the top of the list after the past 2 days clusterfuck.... >_>

Heh, heh. I know you probably made an honest mistake but damn... I would love a cell phone battery with 1800 Amps! It would last FOREVER.
At work I do testing of electrical utility grade equipment. Our 2000 Amp transformers are so heavy I can barely move them.

which galaxy? I've read that galaxy S has lots of aftermarket roms available but galaxy captivate has issues running anything over 2.1 (like, it can even burn itself out!?)

Hi. Hero is my first android device. I am using it for more than a year and I have started to think about replacing it with something new. First of all I want to say that hero is a brilliant device and I am very happy that I have bought it in september '09. Secondly, I expect from my next cell to have a bigger screen with a bigger resolution, better CPU, more memory and ... a camera flash light.
The DHD is a very nice looking device but it is too big and the battery is weak.
Galaxy S is too shiny and plastic, but the gaming performance and speed is WOW! However it is a Samsung and I have bad memories with them.
So a perfect replacement for my Hero would be the Desire, but .... Motorola and LG are making a big performance leap forward with their dual-core devices. So buying now a Desire wouldn't be smart, cause in a year's time it will probably be like my current hero (quite good, but with many limitations).
So I am looking forward to MWC where there will be announced a replacement for the Desire and I think that will be my next android device.

You took the words right out of my mouth!
Something I am looking for in my next phone is ANT+ compatibility. Sony Ericsson is the only one announced so far, but I am not keen about them. A samsung or a HTC would be nice. I'm on my 4th HTC at this stage.
Well following MWC nothing really grabbed me.
There are three phones around that I would consider but:
Desire Z: is just a bit crude design wise for me; two tone grey, patches of metal etc. Plus the spec will quickly get dated.
Pro 7: Nice tough looking phone but Windows OS. I would actually consider it but just can't see it having the flexibility and apps of android.
Nokia E7: LOVE the form of this handset. If the little green android was running it I would get it in a heartbeat. But sadly it's Symbian, although a new version, I'm really not sure I'd be happy.
So generally feeling at bit miffed- right handset with wrong OS or wrong handset with right OS.
Might have to consider giving up the keyboard

I'm thinking Nexus S or Galaxy S2...
One thing for sure is this time I'm not tying myself up in a 24 months contract...
In a lot of cases it can work cheaper taking a monthly rolling contract (costs vary between £10-£20 instead of your general £35) and then buying the phone separately. With this option I would however have to downgrade my ambitions...
I could always go for a Droid X HD10 lol...
im going to get a galaxy s 2, really wanted htc to bring out a new device to compete with samsung and lg's new phones
Still looking out for what my next handset it's going to be.
Hopefully, it will be lot's of fun (that is, not bored) like Hero, where there's lots of community forum support and plenty of ROMs available from developers every few weeks/months to flash

IDK. Move on from my N1

I don't know if i should move on from my N1.
I had mine since the released date. I loved having this phone. I love how much dev it received. I love the form factor, size and performance. I don't know what more i need from my smartphone. However, its been almost two years now and want a new phone. Maybe I am having rom-flash withdrawal since there is no more CM nightly. My phone has been running like a champ. I have no dent, scratch and no hardware malfunction, other then multi-touch screen problem all N1 users have. I don't know if i need a bigger screen phone. I don't know if i want it any bigger.
Are your N1 still holding up? Are you still happy with it? I like to upgrade but it feels like a waste right now. What do you guys think? Maybe I should wait until ICS is available for N1. At least an official CM9 nightly.
My N1 is holding up like a champ. After having not updated the theme/icons/wallpaper, etc, for awhile, I started to get the "I need a new phone" thoughts...but since changing all of that and making things look more like ICS, I kind of feel like I have a new phone.
I dunno. I love my N1, despite all of its quirks. IMO there are few phones with the size and form factor on par or better than the N1's. The N1 is supported so well, it kind of seems like a waste to upgrade to better phone. I mean, most of the things the newer phones can do, the N1 can be hacked to do and perform it almost if not just as well.
I say wait. That's what I'm going to try to do. I have a AT&T N1 and am switching over to T-Mobile tomorrow. Unless I can get some 1900 mhz love from T-Mobile with the addition of the new band, I will be stuck on Edge which will be pretty brutal. I have a T-Mobile Moto Milestone but I don't want to pull that thing out because I love my N1 just so much...
Also, I cannot live without the trackball. I just can't. It is too awesome.
I also have an AT&T N1 and was thinking of switching to TMo, have you heard which markets they were using the 1900mhz in?
I was also thinking of getting the Galaxy Nexus, hopefully on someone beside Verizon.
I have also had N1 from release. I was getting bored, but I just recently installed one of the ICS builds. Very nice!
im feeling almost the same way, but I've only had this phone for about 6 months now... I bought it used on ebay.
Don't get me wrong, I love it.
Yeah it shame to let it go. I don't wanna. With devs here in xda, I feel like my N1 could live forever.
With all these new tech, Im just jealous and want to get it. But 600 dollar is alot to fork over. I have a special reserve just for tech but every time I think of pulling the trigger my N1 screams why. It still runs smooth, flawless and just the right size, it feels. Maybe new case will change my mind. Lol. I just can't wait for CM9 or ICS.

Other than the internal storage and touchscreen issues, it's still really a great phone.
The upgrades are not very compelling... The only reason to upgrade sooner was if it developed some fault and i can't be bothered to fix it.

I have not. My AT&T plan resets tomorrow, I believe, so today is kind of D-Day for my AT&T plan. I plan to port my number to Google Voice today and then renew my T-Mobile plan (I tried it out in November for one month).
There is a forum on HoFo where people have been reporting getting the new band. The here is the link for the forum: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1748317-Post-here-if-you-have-noticed-1900MHz-3G-on-an-iPhone-or-other-device
I was looking at the Galaxy Nexus too, especially because it was on sale on DailySteals the other day for $565 I believe. But...meh. Technology will only get better and better, and with the support here on XDA for the N1, I believe there is really nothing that the N1 won't be able to accomplish.

I'm holding out for the 32GB GSM Galaxy Nexus. I'm hoping T-Mobile will eventually offer it under contract so I can use my upgrade subsidy--I re-upped a 2-year family plan back in May so my wife could upgrade from a G1 to a G2X. The biggest downsides to the GN for me are the lack of a microSD card slot and a trackball. The first is nearly inexcusable. The second is unfortunately the new standard.
Though there aren't official CM nighties, there are some nice KANG builds out there that are pretty much the same thing--just gathering up the changes since the #253 official build. I'm using temasek's build, available here. The newest builds have been very stable.

My thoughts too.
lol, I feel like I walked into an N1 support group...
I was pretty confident I was going to upgrade to the GN, because I can get full subsidies from my carrier, but I need to pay it all upfront (I'll be buying it independently). When I thought about it some more, the GN isn't enough of a jump.
I mean, I've been with the N1 since it's launch, and it's served me so well. Yes, we all have that stupid synaptics touch screen, the terrible lack of internal storage and a camera I simply don't like using because of the quality. I personally would've liked the look of the N1 better without the trackball, but I can't say it hasn't been super useful. I think without the trackball though (and perhaps some less bland colors) it could've easily been the prettiest phone I've ever seen.
Everyone around here have either iPhones or Galaxies (1, 2). I gotta say, Samsung is only getting better in their design (even with the plastics). And their screens are a big win.
But for me, I'm waiting it out with my N1. I'm even considering keeping it on Gingerbread from now on, so that my upgrade will be a real experience. I think it's incredible to think that keeping my N1 on GB will really define the N1 as "legacy". Two years and it's still holding its own against the biggest and baddest phones out there.
When quad cores start pouring, I'll be taking another look. But atm I'm happy to be at the end of the cycle where my phone is becoming legacy and soon I will move on to the next cycle - Quad core, 720p, hardware-button-less, ICS and all those goodies...

I've also had my N1 since release and I honestly having a heard time finding a phone i'd rather be using. especially now that am running ICS on it.
i love the support this phone gets and probably will keep using it even after i get a new phone.
but i highly doubt i could ever really replace it.
hi
I used my nexus one for a year and a half. I bought a nexus S for cheap a few weeks ago (I wouldn't have bought this POS for full retail price, got it for U$270 off contract), but I'm really having a hard time letting go of my "old" N1.
I really, really miss the trackball notifications and the feel of the phone. I tried to explain it to my friends, but they didn't get it. They like the way samsung phones feel ("very light! awesome!"), but I don't. I like how HTC phones feel, sturdy and heavy.
Things I REALLY miss:
- trackball
- trackball colour notifications
- how the N1 feels
- battery life
- contactless desktop dock
- non-buggy ROMs!
Things I like on the NS:
- application storage space is 1GB! awesome!
- screen is better, multitouch is not buggy
- I thought i would miss the SD card, but I don't
Things I REALLY DISLIKE on the NS:
- buggy back button, presses itself or gets stuck.
- battery life sucks
- phone is stupid.
Things I couldn't care less for in the NS:
- NFC
- contour display
- front facing camera
long story short, I'm going back to my N1 and selling this piece of crap NS, maybe i can get some more money out of it.
I was thinking about picking up a Nexus S. Since ICS was released I was tempted. I also found some under 300. Glad I didn't.

I bought a brand new Nexus One last month. After hours of browsing on the internet looking at as many phones as possible, the N1 just stood out for some reason. And since owning it I haven't regretted my decision one bit.
In fact, my 82 year old Grandad has just bought one (over the iPhone too)!!
One thing that has actually amazed me about the N1, is that it can get a GPS lock in under 10 seconds when I'm indoors. Less than 5 when I'm outside. The first time I did it indoors my mind almost exploded. My old HTC Legend took ~30 seconds, and just couldn't really do it indoors. Not that being able to get GPS when I'm in my own house is of any use whatsoever, but I just thought it was epic
Never give up the N1 until something absolutely epic comes out, which, at the moment (at least IMO), there is not one phone worth forking out so much money for.
Long live the Nexus One!
I like it too. Hehe!

Anyone worrying about losing color notifications from the trackball - just letting you know the GNex has color notifications, the led is just hidden under the bezel (brilliant!).

Suggestion for new phone (broken M2)

Hi guys, I'd like some help from you, if that's not a problem
My Milestone 2 just died, I dropped it inside the toilet (empty), tried to recover it but no avail. So I'm after a new phone
I'm thinking if I should buy a new Milestone 2 or get a newer model, like a SII or Milestone 3, but I'm also accepting suggestions. I'd like it to have a great modding community just like the M2 has, I had lots of fun modding my M2 with the help of all of you.
So, what do you think? Which model should I get?
Also, I'd just like to thank for all the modders, specially santiemanuel, r2beta, dangzpanto (or something like that, can't remember your nick correctly dude), Will5, Endless and tezet, you all are what's best in this community. You brought a "dead" device back to life with your mods, so I thank you for your efforts.
Check out the Samsung Captivate Glide - it's essentially an s2 with a tegra2 chip and slide out qwerty keyboard. That was my choice, but still have a year left on my contract.. so something new/better will surely be out by then.
I would also suggest getting a handset that is the "must have" phone, for example the galaxy s 2. My reasoning behind this being, 6 months down the track when something newer and better comes out, since it is such a popular handset you can still get a good amount of coin for it selling it second hand as long as you keep it in good condition. Also if you end up not liking it it's easier to pawn it off with minimal or no cost to yourself
Just look at how much the average Galaxy S still goes for, and it's pushing towards 2 years old.
EDIT: I'd just like to add in... I'd take my MS2 over my gf's sgs2 anyday. I just don't like the phone :\. Still i think it is a smart choice for the long run, and there are heaps of custom roms and kernels available to try and tweak it to work how you want.

I don't think we have the Captivate Glide here in Brazil, but thanks for the suggestion!
I too think that the MS2 is great. I got my hands on a SII recently and although I liked the phone, I can't get myself away from the qwerty keyboard. Hell, I might just buy another M2 after all...
Oh I see!
Pretty sure it isn't available here in Australia but if I were to buy it, I'd get it off mobicity.com.au - it imports alot of phone we normally might not get. And cheap too .
And I know exactly what you mean with the hardware keyboard - everyone thinks I'm a spastic when I whinge about my troubles of limited phones option now.
I have to admit that swype helps soften the blow if you have to make the change.
moto pro, xt610 is a very nice one
If the physical keyboard is essential in your choice, "Milestone 3"
If not ... "Samsung Galaxy S2"
Good luck with your new phone.!!
What about locked bootloader in miles3 ? Anybody knows ?
Sorry to hear that.
I guess if you can wait a bit, Milestone 4 should be out soon. Dunno how soon though. I believe the release date for Droid 4 is Feb 2nd. Looks a gorgeous device and the keypad looks just amazing.
But then again it's Moto and you never know with them and their locked bootloaders.
I would have gone for Razr Maxx. It's surprisingly very thin and runs amazing. But again Moto and their locked bootloaders always have a complicated relationship.

Is the Atrix bootloader bypassed? I think I heard some months back Motorola would unlock the Atrix. Is this true?
I'm pretty sure it's unlockable bro, seem to be a few kernels for it after a quick Google search. Atrix could be a good option, great hardware and a lottt of dev support on XDA it would seem. And awesome battery life!

I think i also saw something about unlocked atrix bootloader. It is definitly a great phone. A friend of mine just got it. Nice feature is the fingerprint included at the powerbutton. Take look there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138092
Well i just got problems with my M2 and so also thought to buy a brand new phone. Whats about LG P990. Here in Germany it is still the best price with tegra 2 chip.
I'm very inclined towards the Milestone 3, but it has 512mb of ram, which is kinda disappointing since it's a newgen device. The Atrix seems nice, but the 5mpx isn't an improvement over M2's camera. Also, it lacks a hw keyboard.

Goodbye HD2

Have been HD2 user for nearly 2 years now. Been through all the good phases which the phone has to offer, WinMo 6.5 Custom ROMS in the begining then Android through SD card/Haret and then finally Android through NAND. Also gave WP7 and WP7 NODO a try too, two sepeate times, but somehow it was just unstable for me and never really worked out, so had it uninstalled and went back to Android within 2 days both the times.
It has been a great phone throughout, there was new joy each time a bug was ironed out or new dev was made for it by awesome devs here, like NAND or porting of gingerbread and more recently ICS or the solving of persisting GPS problem by tytung or the custom brightness issue just recently or the porting of new 2.6.35.x kernels by Mark & warrenb and many more I can't remember
But as all must good things come to an end, with a heavy heart I say good bye to my beloved HD2 and pack it to be shipped from my place to its lucky new owner who doesn't know even difference between android and windows btw and move on to HTC sensation..
It still is very capable phone and has atleast 1 more year of life in it, I decided to move on because the hardware buttons on my phone break quite often, had it repaired 2 times already because of same fault, only if HTC had decided to use capacitive buttons at that time
Anyway hope devs keep up the good work and we have full working ICS w/ 3.0.8 kernel on it and 720p recording soon and WP7.5 Mango without any issues for wp lovers
Many thanks to Cotulla, Tytung, NRGZ, Hastarin, Darkstone, Markinus, Marc, Warren, CM team, MIUI team and all the ROM chefs and devs I missed out (sorry I can't name each one of you)
Also HTC deserves a mention too, for creating a phone which was ahead of times with a badass 4.3 display which started the trend of big phones and their awesome Sense UI
Lastly, I would mention the awesome HD2 community we have here on XDA which keeps this phone rocking.
To HD2 the best phone ever
Decide to go for Amaze 4G over Sensation. Hopefully, it would be a worthy upgrade

hmm, you used to be indecisive but now youre not so sure
i am sure many long time owners are looking around for the next 'HD2'.
what made you decide on Sensation over Amaze 4G?
and not Samsung Galaxy S II, the screen is a lot brighter...
HD2 is amazing, tried pretty much everything on it, WM, WP, Android... Will be switching to something new once Windows Phone 8 Apollo hardware is out.
Just can't understand why you would go with HTC Sensation (Android) over Titan II or Lumia 900 (WP 7.5) though
I am pretty sure that Lumia 800-900 is the new HD2, at least for the WP users,

Sensation and Amaze are both excellent phones. However IMO Amaze is what the original sensation should have been.It has better camera(s), data speed, no death grip issue, NFC, dedicated mic for active noise cancellation. There is also more CPU and RAM on Amaze but that I think it would negate for now if you put MIUI/CM7/9 on sensation, which you can't put on Amaze right now because HTC doesn't gave it S-OFF yet . So you are stuck with Sense UI on Amaze, but i don't mind it as its an excellent software. That's why the indecisiveness, I'm going from a phone with most dev to a phone with very low dev
Galaxy SII is a better phone when compared to Amaze in physical aspects as its lighter, slimmer, better screen and bigger battery. However Amaze has better build quality and has a slightly better camera. Rest of the Hardware is same for both on TMO version. But its expensive normally coz being more popular. Its normally more than $450.
I settled for Amaze as I scored an excellent deal from eBay for 350.
So it all depends on your budget. You get mint sensation normally for 300-350, Amaze is around 400 mark while the SGSII is 450-500.

I went with the Samsung Galaxy Note. I like it a lot, but I LOVED My HD2s (4 in all- just put the last 2 together up on eBay: 1 still working great & the other for parts, and an unbeleivable difficult to part with collections of bike mounts and extra batteries et all.) I just had to, to help pay for the off-contract Note. Sad day.

I am BIG fan of HTC. Currently courting the wrong side (Samsung) and would love to go get a ONE X but the only thing keeping me from ONE X is the lack of microSD. Does anyone know whether SG3 will have microSD? It seems like the general trend is to omit it.
I just ditched Sansung GS2 SKyrocket for HD2.
Gosh I hate the battery drainage on LTE and 4g.
No matter how fast dual core cpu is and how fancy the super amoled plus looks, its all useless if you have to charge the phone every 6 hours
I am sticking with my HD2 for now. You gotta love the fact that all the devs and support that are far greater on HD2 than any other phones.
I will wait hold my 500 dollars until all those manufacturers do something about the battery on LTE and 4G.

Getting emotionally attached to a phone is weird, but i also share that same feeling
All these phone just do what they are supposed to do, the HD2 did so much more than what it was supposed to, that's what it made it so special
Still have it and works like a charm, but for next device
HTC Hurrkian 1.5 Ghz quad core
Android 4.0
Sense UI 4.0
Camera 12 mega pix
Display 4.3inch 720p

just one month ago i have bought this phone fo 130 euros with no sound that i fixed fo free thanx to my experience with electronics. Few days after that I installed android and every day after that i was testing almost every possible rom for hd2. Now I must say the only thing. This phone just rocks like hell. I didnt know that this phone can handle so much . I know that there are better phones out there if we are talking about specs but I must say that this phone is inspiration for other or new developers. It also inspired me and I am also looking forward to build my own rom for this phone even if I know there are plenty of really good roms for this phone. But I must also say that I am looking forward to buy HTC ONE X or SAMSUNG Galaxy S3 when it comes out. But anyway I WILL KEEP THIS PHONE even after its death
Sent from my Dorimanx powered HTC HD2
Ive had like 15 different roms on my sd in the last 2 months, and havent flashed magldr yet, 1 year and a half... when my contract ends is gonna be hard to chose a new phone.

HD2 its a very good phone with a lot of developing work. But like others phones the company plan to keep up to date the newest phones and forget the older. Its a hard work to a developer build the roms and test it. I think that the equation good hardware(phone) + good developers gives the result of excelent on this phone.

just check out the nokia support froum.
but the ones that pee me off is
1. poor battery life
2. badly grounded screen so jitters on touch
3.random reboots
4.poor audio quailty through headphone jack
there is a new update pushing out now but i dont have much faith in it as the past ones just brought more bugs to the phone.
i've recently moved from hd2 to sensation xe. i really like the xe, but i'll never get rid of hd2, its the first phone i've kept after getting a new one........
I too finally moved on from my HD2 to a Galaxy S II. However, I must say as quick and enjoyable as the GSII is I still pop my sim back into my HD2 every couple of days to mess around with Windows Phone. I bought the phone when it launched on TMOUS and never thought I'd be able to run Android and Windows Phone let alone that it would be able to keep up for this long.
