Charge phone to about 60-70 percent and remove battery from phone. That's it.

Agreed. Don't fully charge your battery. Just charge enough. Then, remove the battery from the phone (this is the essential part).

Coming from Galaxy Note I to Note 2...battery life!!

I am astounded as to how much better the battery life is.
With my usage i was lucky to get 6hrs on a full charge. Well.... first charge of brand new note 2 and im on 60% still and its been on battery for over 13hrs up to yet!!!!
It's great isnt it... I thought the same but in my case I came from an S3. Note 2 really is an amazing phone.

It will probably be on 40% by the time i get in bed. Do you think its better to fully charge it again or just let it run down as i will be back from work earlier tomorrow
Matt
For the first charge I let it run down to 5%, then after that I just do whatevers needed.
Its personal pref tho, some people will say you need to, others say it's not necessary.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
If i let it go below 5% and it ran out would that be bad?
I dont think its gonna hurt, its just good practice...something I remember reading once.

Just don't let it run out. The first few times you use the phone, you should do a full cycle charge.
Let it run down to 5% or less and then charge it to 100%

So when I get mine should I fully charge it and let it run out fully a few times?

No you don't need to fully run down the battery. It is actually a bad practice on lithium based batteries.

when they say "fully run down", don't they mean run down till literally zero? on advanced phones like ours, you'll never get a chance to fully run down the phone because it'll shut down way before that happens, unless you keep it turned off and sitting there for a couple of weeks, which should almost never happen to anyone.
so i think you can run down the phone, at least till it turns off by itself, and then charge again till full.
The battery life is beyond words,I never get to drain it more than 30% ,I just charge by bed time, dnt bother about battery calibration unless u change ur rom

[Q] ROM problem or my battery?

Currently using Stepp_aospX 1.0.0-MR2.
When I'm watching a 30 minute YouTube video, the battery goes down by about 45%. When I turn off the phone and turn it back on, the battery jumps back up about 20-30%. Now I'm wondering if this is a problem with by battery or with the ROM.
Can anyone else get this issue to occur on their phone?
probably the battery, how old is the battery? Any water damage?

I'm using the same battery the phone came with (bought new 2 years ago). No water damage.
Two years is a lot of time bud, thats the problem right there.. Batteries wear down, imagine how many times that battery has gone from 0% to 100% in the course of 2 years..

Yeah, it sounds like you need a new battery. Anker makes great ones, they aren't too expensive, just buy them off of amazon. Before you do that, take out the battery and check for lumps or stuff like that.
Again, there is a 90% change that you just need a new battery
That's what I was afraid of. No lumps on the battery (thankfully). Probably not going to buy a new battery though. Waiting for a good deal on a Galaxy SIII or Nexus 4.
Thanks guys.

Someone once said to charge the battery to 100% then clear battery stats then drain it down to almost 0% then clear stats again. then charge it back to 100% in one sitting. that helps me sometimes when flashing an old backup and the percentage jumps around after a reboot.

Thats a placebo. It really doesn't do very much. If you get random battery level jumps, its a sign that you need a new battery
Spin it

Ive found that a lot of times you can't see it starting to bow, but if you spin it you can tell. If it just spins 90-180* then it's probably ok, but of it spins more than that it's bad. I grab the battery charger + 3 batteres from eBay for under $10. Now I just swap batteries rather than charge the phone.

I'm not having any issues charging. I also charge my phone at night while I sleep.
You should let your phone die at least once a month, then charge it all the way to 100%
With the phone turned off. I promise you will get the best life out of your battery. Good Luck MF.

No.... Just, no.
Same problem
I had the same problem, I think I have to buy a new battery
A couple of things...
When applying an update on Android platforms, the battery stats are usually wiped, this results in wonky battery drain and charging indications and it usually lasts a few days to as long as a week.
So, the short story is, see if it doesnt correct itself after a week.
On occasion, Android updates dont quite go right and regardless of how Google 'intends' for updates to go, 25% of the time, youll end up doing a factory reset after a firmware update (poor performance, new error messages, wonky power issues including higher than normal battery drain and slow charge rates).
Again, the short story is, after a week, if it hasnt corrected itself, Id suggest a factory reset, then give it another week to see if the battery issue corrects itself. Obviously, realize that if during that week you install anything new that this could affect your battery life. I personally try to keep my phone as stock as possible and disable as many stock apps that I know Ill never use (my Note 3 is at around 25 stock apps disabled and Ive only installed 15 of my own apps, none of which would likely have a negative impact on battery).
Best practices for the proper care and feeding of Lithium Ion batteries is pretty straight forward. There are alot of myths out there from Nickle Cadmium batteries that just dont hold true for our current generation of batteries.
1. Whenever possible, keep the battery charged. If you have an outlet available, plug your phone in, regardless of whether its fully charged or not.
2. Try to keep your battery / device in typical room temp environments (ie a temp range of 60-85 degrees F). Obviously, this isnt always possible but dont intentionally leave a battery / device sitting on the dash in your car in direct sunlight (direct sunlight can raise the temp by as much as 25 degrees higher than the actual ambient temp), dont put your battery / device on top of a heater, etc.
3. Drain the battery periodically (referred to as a full discharge*), currently, the rule of thumb is once every 3 months and re-charge with the phone OFF, once the phone has a 100% charge (use the volume rocker to see the current charge without having to boot the phone), unplug the charger, THEN boot the phone. This gives Android a chance to see what a full discharge and charge should be (and cycles the battery giving the electronics inside the battery a chance to see the same discharge / charge).
* Note that a full discharge in todays components is when a device shuts itself down when on battery power due to lack of power in the battery to continue operating said component without damaging the battery or the component any further. Do NOT continue to turn the device on after it shuts down in this manner without first plugging external power into the device as this will likely dramatically shorten the life of the battery.
The last rule is most important..
4. IMPORTANT! Use your device like you normally would. The above three are tips for making a battery last as long as possible but when and if your phone makes you change how you live your life to any degree of extremes, you've forgotten the point of what your phone is.
And I will now give you source information to the above, these guys are the battery experts...

And lest anyone want to debate the battery cycling, here is a direct link to that information as well.

Read VERY CAREFULLY before you tell me Im wrong on this, batteries are a particular hobby of mine, I know enough to know what Im talking about.

battery question

Today i accidentally let my battery get down to 1 percent and my phone shut off but then i plugged it in charger and letting it fully charge. Is this bad for the battery, or did it still have some charge left after it shut down at 1 percent for battery safety.
I let my battery die out all the way for my s3 and s4. I have never really noticed a problem. If you do run into battery problems though, you can always just buy a replacement one for 10-15 bucks off eBay. One of the luxuries of having a Samsung with removeable battery!!

It's generally not good to do on a regular basis, but every now and then shouldn't really hurt it. And, like mentioned, batteries are pretty cheap.
this was the first time i did it by accident but if the phone shut off at 1 percent doesnt mean it was fully drained right?

As drained as it could get with the phone still operating. I'm sure it still had a little juice just not enough to power the screen.
so you think i have nothing to worry about or will see anything different?

Lithium ion battery can not be charged if it falls below certain charge level. To avoid this, your phone reports zero percent well above the critical charge level. So, even with 1%, you are well away from causing serious damage to the battery. If you do it repeatedly, it will reduce the life of your battery though.

Who's liking their fast charging?

Loving it! Kinda took me by surprise even though i knew i had it. Waited until my battery got to 1% then plugged this baby in, went to do something whick took 2-3 minutes. Now im already at 10% wow! I could see this as being super useful in rushed situations.
It came in handy this morning. Apparently I was so tired last night that I set my phone down on the wireless charging station (forgetting that I didn't have the wireless charging cover) and forgot to plug in it. At some point in the night my phone died, meaning my alarm didn't go off. Luckily my wife's goes off about 10 minutes after mine normally would. So, I plugged it up & was able to have a 50% charge before walking out the door to go to work this morning. That was a very pleasant experience with the quick charge feature.

P.P.S Defintitely not sure about it but you can be.
Greenpeace would complain because more power is used to charge quicker and for more power used, there is more power needed but for the extra power needed, coal power stations need more coal and to get the coal you dig it out of the ground. So in other words, the dinosaurs may be dead but they are dead pissed.

The biggest I see with this "Faster Charging" is that, this is the first phone I have ever owned that doesnt die on the charger.
What I mean by that is that, when I using the HotSpot Tether and playing games and multitasking all at the same time, my previous phones would either over heat and force the phone to cut off to cool down "LG G3" or the battery percent would get lower and lower while on the charger.
This has been my problem on every phone from the HTC M8 to S5 to M7 to Note 3 to Nexus 4/5 everyphone.
With this faster charging it charge fast and is able to keep up with my multi tasking demands while using the phone.
This may be a feature of the Snapdragon 805 being able to handle the work load better.
