Hi there,
I'm interested in building custom accessories for my nexus 7. Does anyone know where I might be able to find info about the physical shape of the device? Something like engineering technical drawings, detailing stuff like the corner radii, bevel slope, back curvature, etc...
There's lots of info out there about approximate rectagular dimensions & depth, but I need a lot more detail and precision than that.
Thanks!

Guys,
Have any of you come across a 'decent' Art & Drawing application?
I know there are quite a few but I'm looking for one that has realistic brushes/palette and tools.
It 'must' have an ability to use 'smear' where I can smear many colours or do a graduated colour spread.
Another nice to have would be 'pressure sensitivity' ~ whereby applying various forms of pressure gives off varying brush thickness.
Thanks in advance.

Bother..... Just realized I've posted this in the wrong section. Should have gone in the Themes and Apps section....
Staff, please relocate, my apologies.

I've been looking for one to, but they all seem to be just very basic finger paint programs.

That's the trouble which I have found as well.
Besides my profession I have a passion with photography and drawing.
I would handsomely pay quite a lot of there were an Art package available that you could use properly for sketch and watercolour.
Again, if anyone has any ideas please do let us know.
Not found anything that is pressure sensitive, not sure if that's even possible. I found a simple sketch app that simulates the effect based on the speed of your finger.
There might be a opportunity here for someone. I used to write art packages, but now that I work in computer graphics, I'm not sure I have the same enthusiasm for doing it in my spare time.

Pressure sensitivity is possible Mark, well on Windows Mobile that is...
There's a title named DynaInk which supports pressure sensitivity and has very basic smudging effect built in.
What was the name of the title you found and did it support 'smudge/smear'?
With all the titles available one would like to believe there must be an App available that can mimic an artists drawing/painting board.
It was Sketcher, it doesnt support the features you're looking for Mike, but with the Sketchy brush selected did allow you to get several colours on top of one another in an air-brush type fashion.

Thanks Mark found it..... I like the idea but you are right, it's not my cup of tea.
Did find one of interest ~ Magic Doodle Lite
It only has the single brush in the Lite version but it does allow you to graduate your colour if you use a specific brush fill pattern.
The Pro version has 35 real artist brushes (not 8 as the Market mentions), prismacolour, acrylic, hue & saturation, pencil colour, van gogh oil, rembrandt watercolour, skin tone, cool colours, weak saturation, grey saturation, 3 greys sacle, victorian, nocturne.
More drawing & painting tools.
Eyedropper to select colours fro your paintings.
Extra zooming from 50% to 1000%
Colour bucket to quickly fill closed forms and shapes.
Smudge tool.
Symmetrical drawing tool.
Premium also has search for painting ideas.
65 modern style patterns for more inspirations.
24 colourful ethnic art models for training.
Pro version costs E1.39 (USD 1.96)
Have not installed or tried, but Picsay might be worth tying.
I have not tried this
So not sure if this is what you looking for

Picsay is more a Photo Editor than a dedicated drawing program.
There's little to no art tools.

DoodleDroid again works with Photo's.
Basically I need to work from a blank canvass just as you would if putting chalk, pastel, paint, etc on paper.
Thanks guys.
Not what I am seeking but I do appreciate the feedback.
So has anyone found anything better yet? I haven't had much luck in finding anything good.

The nearest I have found is Magic Doodle.
The Lite version only has the single brush whereas the full has quite a lot more.
I've given myself to looking until the end of July. If I can't find anything further to my needs then I'll pay for the full version.
Hello everyone,
I have a query that perhaps those in the know could offer me some guidance on. Firstly, among the different flavors of 10.1'' Android tablets how similar are the innards both in hardware and placement? I ask this because the color depth of my Acer Iconia is horrible in my opinion...especially sitting next to my wife's Asus Transformer. The colors are very washed out and the banding that occurs on gradients are not ignorable. I've seen it cited in a couple of threads with the general consensus being that Acer can do nothing on the software side to improve this saturation short sight. I have replaced many laptop screens and bezel assemblies, as well as repaired numerous bezels. I am aware that due to the relatively recent release of these tablets, replacement parts will be hard to find, but I want to do it regardless. According to Acer, their screen has more capacitive registers and I assume that there is a layer over the actual screen itself with the registers, but I'd love to perfect this beauty with an IPS screen. Also, I pulled it apart today and turned the microphone toward the screen panel side and finally my friends on Skype can hear me... So how possible is this upgrade, and are there any tips for this undertaking? Thanks in advance for your help and/or consideration.
So what do you guys think about the mod idea? Would it be worth it....or even possible?
I think it's definitely a great idea. I'm just not experienced with this level of hardware modding so have no input on it's feasibility or whether it would even work without some software hacking as well.
If you manage it, definitely post your results.
well well you need to find a LCD plate who is compatible (voltage and data stream) with the LED LCD AUO B101EW05 inside our tablet: http://auo.com/?sn=149&lang=en-US&c=34&n=146
the only things weird
is
Response Time (ms) 8 from AUO
Response Time (ms) 25 from Acer
so far I would like see a 5ms screen rather than a 16M color
Would be very cool if you managed to, and if so ill repeat what was said above, please post your results and if successful please make a step by step guide
Sharing is caring

I'd like to meet somewhere in the middle maybe 5-12ms response and 16m colors. I'll have to wait until after market replacements become available and pray that the connections are compatible or that the PCB has generic leads to solder. Next is the software, assuming that the basic low level hardware is identical, software should be the easy part. Only time and research will tell. Does anyone have any OEM info on the Asus tf101 screen?
Well recently I've been looking into buying a Nexus 7; however, I have a few unanswered questions that I couldn't find using the search tool, so I thought I'd create an account.
(These questions could seem a bit noob-ish, I'm new to the tablet tech and looking for one to buy)
First question, is the Nexus 7 display pressure sensitive?
Second question, in your opinion is a screen protector necessary? (I'm generally pretty careful with my eletronics and plan on purchasing a case for this. I don't have a protector on my Galaxy S3 and after 4 months of usage I've managed to scratch it twice in my pocket; however, you really have to be looking for the scratches to see them and sometimes they are only visible when finger print oil is wiped over them.)
Third question, if the display is pressure sensitive and if I happened to purchase a screen protector, would said screen protector affect the pressure sensitive capabilities? (I know this could vary depending on the thickness of the screen protector).
Appreciate the help.. :silly:
Well, there is this forum named Q&A for things like this. A capacitive touch-screen (same as what your S3 has) is not pressure sensitive. That's why it is called a touch screen. A screen protector will have no discernible effect on usage. I highly recommend the use of a screen protector. I also recommend more descriptive thread titles so that the search function works better. Adding the word screen to the title would have let others with similar questions find this in a search.

Thanks, I'll take those suggestions into consideration and I have already gone and reported the thread to be moved to the Q&A section, I usually don't make these mistakes on forums, but it seems that I have missed that section.
In regards to you saying that this has a touch screen, do you know how well the tablet fares at drawing? I'm not a professional artist or anything just wondering if the tablet does decent in a drawing situation.
I've done very little of that on mine, but unless you need a level of precision it should be OK.
If you attach a Wacom digitizer to a Nexus 7, the tablet displays pressure sensitivity.
Since there's a script for the HP Touchpad to make the Touchpad pressure sensitive,
and both tablets use the same CPU, would it be possible to make the Nexus 7 pressure
sensitive without the Wacom?

I've been considering the HTC One M8 for my next purchase and I was targeting the Gunmetal grey version (it really looks awesome), BUT from what I've been reading, besides being a little slippery in the hand, it is very scratch prone. (some remote topics here on XDA, some remote topics in android central's forum, etc.)
Seeing on how a lot of us wouldn't want to hide such a great phone behind a cover, let's talk here about how easy or hard it is to scratch the phone and how it looks after some wear-and-tear and, maybe, how it all depends on the color of the phone ...
Last year, the silver M7 stood really well in this department, with scratches being less easier to spot than the colored versions. How is it now on the M8 Gunmetal grey or Gold compared to the Silver model?
Anybody got scratches? How easily did the phone scratch?
Maybe some of the users could contribute with pictures and stories, eventually giving info for those of us who are still undecided on which color to get :good: ...
Thread closed,
Remember were possible please use existing threads before creating new ones. An example could be found here: Build Quality Concerns
Many of us have been following the release of this phone very closely and most hardware questions have been answered by now but what about the front aesthetics? Are the placement of the speakers and size of bezels symmetric in design on top and bottom? After viewing photos and the hands-on videos on YouTube, I'm still unable to 100% discern the differences in the top and bottom bezels. I'm sure this probably isn't much of a big deal to most people (excluding myself) but I'm curious to know.
It's just one of those things that bothered me about my Nexus 6 and the new Moto X Pure Edition. There are probably also very good reasons as to why the bezel designs on those two phones aren't symmetric but then again, is it really that difficult to keep symmetry? I've got mine preordered and am keeping it regardless but it would bother me little. What are your thoughts and does someone have an answer?
I'm with you, I think symmetry adds a lot to the beauty of a phone. The sony xperia line is a good example. The only way to know is - I guess- wait to have one in person..

Totally agree.
Most of my Android phones didn't have it except the Note 2, which was one reason why I got it over the S3 in 2012 (which imo has the worst).

Not symmetric.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A
I'm pretty sure they're symmetrical. The speakers don't look like it though.
I agree. When watching video on anything, I want a symmetric & stereo experience. I hate that my G3 has a drastically different top & bottom bezel. This phone appearing to be symmetrical was a big part of my purchase decision.
symmetrical would definitely add to its beauty and cool looks!
Ehh, the addition of the onscreen navbar zeroed out the difference for me
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
Doing a very unscientific experiment (print screened the photo on the product page and copied into MS Paint) the top is 46 pixels and the bottom is 44 pixels. So possibly not symmetrical but very close.... assuming that picture is accurate
