I tried to put some of my music from my computer onto my nexus 4 via the "drag and drop" method with Windows Explorer, as I had previously done with my nexus s. However, when i try to drop the files on my nexus 4, it will not let me put files in the internal storage. Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?
I can use an OTG adaptor to connect to a flash drive but do not know how to copy the files from flash drive to the Nexus 7 or vice versa. Do I need other apps and/or hardware?

You need a file manager like es file manager. It will allow you to view, delete, copy and paste files between the stick and nexus 7. If your on 4.2.1 and using stickmount, you will find the contents of your stick in /usbStorage in the sdcard directory.

You need stickmount in 4.2.1 to mount the flash drive. /usbStorage does not appear until the stick is mounted. Stickmount can be found in the market.

I got it from Google Play but it requires rooted. Thus I cannot use it.

The Nexus Media Importer app lets you transfer files from the flash drive to your Nexus without root. It will also stream media files on the flash drive to some player apps e.g. to view movies stored on your flash drive. It does not allow moving files from your Nexus to the flash drive, however. Again, no root is required. I think the app costs $4.00.
Hi,
I have a Galaxy Note 2 and a Nexus 7 32GB 3G.
They are both rooted and both are running custom roms.
Note 2 is running Omega Rom, Nexus 7 running Slimbean.
Both have usb debugging turned on.
I have the samsung drivers installed for both.
I have them both "Connected as a Media Device".
When I connect the Note 2 to my windows 8 pc I get full access to the data folder and all the system files.
When I connect the Nexus 7 to my windows 8 pc I do not even see the data folder, I see everything BUT the data folder.
What gives? Anyway to enable this without having to using Android commander etc...
Is this a feature of Omega rom that Slimbean is missing?
Thanks!

The Nexus 7 mounts as MTP. You will not have access to certain directories. The Note 2 is mounting as USB mass storage, it seems.

Thanks, possible to mount the Nexus 7 as a USB mass storage device? What determines how it's mounted?

I seem to have found the answer in another thread:

Mass storage is possible when the sdcard volume is actually a separate disk. On the Nexus 10 this is an "emulated" sdcard and cannot use USB mass storage safely because that protocol gives exclusive control to PC.

I'm guessing it's the same with the Nexus 7 and it's an "emulated" sdcard?
Windows XP using MTP mode cannot transfer Non-media file e.g. txt, pdf .. from PC to Nexus 7 (2013). It only transfer media file from PC to Nexus 7 (2013).
Please help how to file non-media file from PC to Nexus 7 using USB.
Thanks
