Hi,
Could someone clarify to me what is actually faster and smother to run NAND with DataOnEXT or NativeSD.
Before I was running[27 OCT 2012][MAGLDR/cLK]TyphooN CyanogenMod 7.2.0.1 v3.8.9 on NAND and now I'm running NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.1 [NativeSD] (on a class 10 SDcard).
I desided on the NativeSD after reading "My Class10 SD card has 10MB/s R/W speed, but the NAND flash R/W speed is only about 4MB/s. so if we can directly install the ROMs to SDCARD and boot from SDCARD we will get lots of benifits:" in the thread:
[30 OCT 2012][DEV]NativeSD Rom Boot Script for HD2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869673
It seams very logical and straight forward.
But I have found it to be a little NativeSD laggy, it takes a while to load apps (loading the address book for ex.) and sometimes after the phone is in sleepmode it takes a while waking up and being responsive, so now I was thinking to upgrade to the [Dec. 9, 2012][ROM][720p] NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a [NativeSD] version (the download link is missing the start so it should be https://sites.google.com/site/nexushd2android/nexushd2-jellybean-cm10/v1-3/download )
Now I'm wondering has anyone tried running the same OS in both NativeSD mode and NAND with DataOnEXT, was it a big difference and was the NativeSD faster and smoother.

My friend, no body can help you, Tecnicaly you know the answers but if you have issue is not the problem of NAND or NATIVE.
Keep testing and when you find the right set-ups you know it.
BTW: I prefer NAND with DataOnExt, less transer rate but I felt that type on installation is more stable.
Good Luck.
I can tell, that any jelly bean ROM at the moment is not as smooth as ICS ROMs. Whether it's on NAND or NativeSD. I used tytung's JB on both, NAND and NativeSD (class 10 sandisk) and it was the same on both. Not that smooth, but fast enough.
I haven't really noticed that difference between NativeSD and NAND. I am currently settling on ICS by Tytung which is smooth. I used to have it on NAND, but a few updates later I switched to NativeSD and there was not much of a difference.
Maybe it's just me, you can try and see for yourself.

The HD2 NAND speed is roughly the same as Class 4 sd card.
Using a file system on the sd card which is faster than yaffs2 and essentially two memory devices (nand and sd) can improve your performance when selecting DataOnExt or Nativesd. Simple.

Part of the beauty of having WP7 on NAND and Android on SD is that you can have as many Android ROMs as you can fit on your card and you can boot into any of them as you please. But say I want to install Android on NAND. Can I still be able to have that one Android ROM on NAND, but multiple other Android ROM's on SD?
Simple... If I want to be able to boot into more than one OS, must I have WP7 on NAND? If so, is there any guide for this? I cannot find one in the main sticky.
Good question, It would be good if you could switch and chang based on mood.
You can have Android on NAND and as many sd builds as you want, same as with WP7. Until my HD2 broke a few days ago, thats just what II did, a DHD build, a MIUI build, and a CM7 build on sd, with UD on NAND. Just have to choose your AD SD directory in magldr's 'services', and then boot AD SD.

I do not think you can due to the fact that you have to run the HARET program. It only runs under Windows Mobile as Android does not run .EXE files.
Yes you definitely can. Check my sig

Well, I saw several builds in the NAND Android forum that specify they support MAGLDR. No need for haret. Here's some of them: LeoRCMix, JW MIUI, HardDroid2. So I didn't think that was a limitation.

How do you partition your card for this setup? Is there a guide somewhere you can link here please? Or is it the same procedure you use to partition your card when you're running WP7 on NAND and Android on SD (which I've followed before)?
Any advise whether NAND build or SD build is better? In terms of performance I mean.
NAND builds will usually be faster.
As far as partitioning your card, with Android it's not necessary, you can do everything on a single Fat32 partition, unless you want to use A2SD then you'll want a single (primary) Fat32 and a single (primary) ext3 or ext4 partition for your apps/dalvik-cache. I recommend using DarkTremor's A2SD script with your NAND ROM, and if you use the DHD build in my sig, then it will automatically detect your ext3 and you'll automatically have the installed apps from your NAND on your sd build.

sd android builds for magldr will work if you have another android in nand, but the kernel for sd build must not be a nand kernel.for example if you have a sense build in nand and you go to start from sd a build that has tytung r10 or rafpigna kernel the kernel will start but for some strange reason it will load the nand build and not the sd build.then if you go to settings you`ll see that the kernel is changed and you have error wifi because of different kernel modules.this at least happens to me,every time i tried to start a magldr sd build with another android in nand.at first times i thought that i was pushing wrong button on magldr
Great advise, guys. I'm going to play with this soon. Thank you!
hi guys. quick survey. When using NativeSD... what Recovery is better? is it better to have an Ext4 as Recovery or CWM? I know you could use both. But I was just wandering which is better? Thanks for the replies.

Use Ext4 or TWRP, both are nice and do the job to NativeSD.

Hi.
1. I've been gone for few months, and I've noticed that there have appeared something called native SD. What is that?
2. Is HWA on ICS fully stable or still has random freezes when using HWA (game or video player) app? I still have freezes in some games...
3. What rom can you point me as stable and smooth? Except Dorimanx and Tytyng CM7 roms...
native sd is the new tech in hd2 history......it uses ext4 partition for your rom internal memory...it is faster than nand rom, you can set internal memory of your choice...no more low space (nand EU hd2 has only 512mb space)...so, fast android on sd card, and then nand is free to install whatever..(wp 7.8 )
try it out..read it..happiness guaranteed

Hi everyone,
I've got some issue with every NativeSd rom : The black screen of death.
After a non utilisation of my phone, i'm trying to waking it up and there are only physical buttons that are light on.
I've got this issue with : - [Nov. 18, 2012][ROM][720p] NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.8 [NativeSD]
- [Dec. 9, 2012][ROM][720p] NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a [NativeSD]
- [15 JAN 13][ROM][JB][4.1.2] JellyBelly_HD2_v1.3.1 [CM10][NATIVESD][DATAONEXT][720p]
Fortunately, i have a Rom on my NAND, with data on ext. (PacMan)
PS : - Card SANDISK Micro SD 32 Go Ultra (bicolor) class 10
Did someone get the same issue and is there a fix for that (instead of changing my Sd Card) ?
(Sorry for my bad english, i'm French ^^)
Thank you

yes friend i get the same issue with [Dec. 9, 2012][ROM][720p] NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a with DataOnEXT ( sd card: Silicon-power 8 GB Class 10)
and i tried [Dec. 9, 2012][ROM][720p] NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a with NativeSD ( 4 GB EXT4 + 4 GB Fat32 ) and it's solved. it's very fast and smooth now.
Hi everyone,
I also have the same issue with the SOD with the following ROMS:
[Dec. 9, 2012][ROM][720p] NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a [NativeSD]
[19.01.2013] Resurrection [MAG/cLK][NATIVESD][DATAOnExt] MIUI 3.1.18 JB -Tytung Ker
In both ROMS are the tytung Kernel JB R1 used.
I hope someone has a solution for this very annoying bug!
Thank you for your answers !!
With my sd card, i have 2gb EXT4 and 30 gb FAT32, this may be the cause of this issue.
I've tried to return to : - [Nov. 18, 2012][ROM][720p] NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.8 [NativeSD]
But the same problem appears, the phone freezes and then the SOD.
Hope someone will help us.
Hi all!
I just tried to upgrade my LEO512 to the same roms already discussed... and I have the same SOD!
HTC LEO 512 (FR)
magldr1.13
4ext recovery 2.2.7 rc5
cwm 4.0.0
100% nativeSD on a Class 10 16Gb Sandisk (bicolor) with 2Gb EXT4 and 12Gb FAT32
I already tried:
- interactiveX instead of smartassv2
- check and repair filesystems
- 384 instead of 245 minimum frequency
- ext3 instead of ext4
- fix permissions
- check partitions alignement
sdcard was partitionned with primary partitions on windows with minitool partition wizard 7
thanks for ideas...

why would I replace a brand new class10 card that I received yesterday for the purpose of flashing my HD2 in nativesd mode?
i don't have any other sd cards (unless the slow sandisk 2Gb given with the hd2)
I've flashed from the start: task29+magldr+cwm
I've installed tytung's jb rom 1.3a in nand (285Mb) with [email protected] (1Gb) on my 2Gb sandisk SD (class2?) and now i've low memory messages with no space for text messages...
and i have internal memory at 0Mb, reported in the storage screen
and just to confirm: the phone is slow on nand...
Try reinstalling with a system partition of 290mbb

Sometimes you can fix this issue by overclocking:
Set the minimal CPU speed 1 click higher.
Just tryin' overclocking my phone, i will just let you know if the same issue appears !

Are you sure we have these kind of parameters when you install in nativesd way?
I juste tried on nand and it works with a system partition of 285, but my issues are when using nativesd.
in fact I may have to find an old class 4 or 6 to do the job but i'm afraid of the performance then...

i've already tried this by stteing the minimal speed to 384 without effect.
thanks for the idea
290mb is only a suggestion for nand install.
For nativesd sandisk class 4 will out perform class 10. I use class 4 and it seems as fast as nand!
Lots of fake sdcard out there make sure its the real thing your buying.

If you really want to know why you can follow the sd link in my signature.
Briefly, because that is not a Class 10 card - if red & grey it is a UHS I card, Class 10 equivalent. The HD2 cannot supply the voltage required for a UHS card. Even if it was a true Class 10 card, Android uses random access, unlike video, which is sequential.
Make sense?

yes that's why I ordered a samsung 8gb class6 microsdhc, hoping it'll solve my SOD problems and give me enough performance to use the HD2 flowlessly
regards guys
So, while wainting for my class 6 8Gb sd card, I've installed the CM10.1 on the nand w/ data on ext4, with my old sandisk 2gb sd.
the phone keeps resetting to defaults (apps lost, configuration lost,...) at each reboot, while consumnig power as fast as a drunk drinks a beer in front of a delicious babe (and it's amaingly hot!)
I'm thinking to go back to GB...
Hi,
Just try to install Pacman on NAND, for me it works and it gives you a lot of space for your apps. I just let down Nativesd for now.
Trying that later .

friend, try every roms and find the most suitable and easy to use one for yourself. because every roms have a life time. you install apps and unistall them. again and again. and your system gets fat with garbage files. and it need to re-install.
i change my rom atleast every week
Hi there,
Well I guess I have found the troublemaker, who causes the immense ammount of SODs on my HD2.
I was using an SanDisk Ultra micro sdhc 32GB (dual color) Class10 card. After I replaced the SanDisk with an Transcend Class6 Card the SODs seemed to be gone for now.
Greetings.
Hi there!
I received my Samsung Class 6 8Gb microsdhc and installed the JB 1.3a version on nativesd and everything seems to be stable at last...
Had to wipe twice and reinstall twice to get a stable result.
Yet the 3G/Data connections seems to drop and I have to go plane-mode and back or to reboot so it comes back.

Hello KShion619,
Adata microSDHC 32GB
Premier Pro
(AUSDH32GUI1-RA1)
would be my preferred choice. As you may know, for NativeSD r/w IOPS, average r/w access time and random r/w speed are the important stats, not sequential r/w (which is only necessary when handling with big files, i. e. watching movies, recording etc.). I‘m running NativeSD from a SanDisk 16GB Class 6 card and it's fast. I have a table with over 50 Cards compared, but the legend is German. If you are interested in it anyway PM me and I‘ll send it over.
I recommend the NativeSD thread by securecrt for a full overview of how NativeSD works and how to set up. Read, read, read.

Before NativeSD DirectSD was the option running Android if you wanted to keep WM on your phone. Native SD is way faster than Direct SD. Ease of use is another cause for using NativeSD. Most important, when using NativeSD you can opt to install multiple Android builds to your SD card and switch between them.
I recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881205 for a useful guide how to set up NativeSD with elegant usability.

Hi Getrid, are you sure you are not confusing DirectSD with SD builds?
SD builds were the precursor of NativeSD and were run from system and data images on the fat32 partition. They were a bit slow, but were certainly useable, and that was before newer SD cards were around.
DirectSD was started by boxmax after NativeSD was introduced and uses 2 ext4 partitions, 1 for system and the other for data.
Chautruongthinh has continued to use the DirectSD option in the latest roms, and has found a speed advantage over NativeSD, of course using a good quality sdcard. It is possible to switch between NativeSD, DirectSD and SDbuilds (and NAND) ROMS without too much trouble since the file structures allow this to happen without cross contamination.
