I'm trying to install the default boot animation. I believed I placed it in the proper folder (/system/media) but after rebooting all I see is the default android boot animation.
Sometimes they go in data/local

Unfortunately not :/ Placing it there didn't work.
I used to do this all he damn time on my atrix 4g but have completely forgot the procedure. I remember having to find where the current boot animation was located and renaming it to what the old one was called. Then the system would recognize it as the same file and use it

There is no way to dump these files from a phone, and no one here has them that I know of.
What exactly is your phone doing? Can you get into download/recover mode?

I only can to the downloading mode. The main thing is this, I upgraded a wrong files contains "boot.bin" and "sbl.bin" ,when i reboot it can boot but only sound no picture, I think the problem is voodoo then I go to the sdcard voodoo folder, add the disable-lagfix to uninstall it , then can not boot up.
If you can get into download mode, have you tried either of the stock DL17 Odin packages that are posted here?
Try the one posted by pastorbennett. It has a bunch of the partitions included in it. I was soft bricked and it fixed it for me.

I finally rooted and have my go to apps and mods I use, and one of them is the Google gears boot animation, but when attempting to locate the file to replace I noticed that it's not named the same as it was on the S3 and not sure what to replace or if it is possible. Any ideas?

DeadCalm(Rage) has the boot logo in 2 locations. The normal place, system/media, and another, I think in system/data. Use a file explorer to find the one that's NOT in the system/media folder and just delete it. You're looking for something by the name of "bootanimation.zip."
I have looked in the file you stated I have had no luck finding it

Sorry, it took me a while to respond. I had to try to figure out if I told you correct locations. The boot animation should be in system/media, however I told you it could also be in system/data on this ROM. However, I looked around a little and I think it's actually in data/local or data/media. I saw this in another thread, but I wasn't able to check in phone because I'm running a different ROM. Delete the one in data/local and leave the other one in system/media.

thank you for responding
is it possible that the deadrage logo was somehow embedded between the rom and recovery and thats why i cannot delete it and if so how do i get rid of it
btw are you one of the original developers of the rom
i have attempted to delete the file in the location you stated but to no avail

Sorry, I'm a little dense sometimes, it just clicked in my head that you were talking about the image and not the animation. This needs to be flashed in recovery. There is a thread on Droidrzr.com and, I think on here, that have flashable boot images. Again, I apologize for being slow.

Here's the thread on DroidRzr. It gives you two options, you can make your own or you can DL the flashable .zip. Personally, I take the easy way and choose the flashable .zip. Just DL and flash in recovery.

Before you all start yelling at me for not looking around on the forum, i actually did look around, but most answers were different and were confusing me.
Im running bobcat Rom and the boot animation and sound are horrible! I tried alot of methodes to install boot animations but always failed.
Can someone please help me out with this stupid thing?
Thanks ♥
From where you are downloading bootanimation? It must be flashable zip file?

I tried boot animation app, and i tried some bootanimation from here, which i installed trough "install update from ZIP".
Yea..im quite confused with the bootanimation and bootsound file structure of this phone. Usually it will just be sitting there, bootanimation.zip, but here, all I see is .qmg?

I guess you forgot to paste the boot-animation link.
Your fone must be rooted as you are installing custom rom. you can manually replace the bootanimation file using root explorer.
Try this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993710
Let me know if you still have issue.
Yeah same all i see is .qmg
and tollboy, Isnt it obvious when someone has a custom rom, that hes phone is rooted? lol

I was implying the same..:victory:
Ok, but can someone ****ing give the solution already to this easy problem?
I have the same issue, is someone have found a solution yet????
you can copy/paste files to the phone in the followingstructure:-
/system/media/bootsamsung.qmg
/system/media/bootsamsungloop.qmg
/system/media/bootsamsungmini.qmg
/system/media/bootsamsungminiloop.qmg
/system/media/audio/ui/PowerOn.ogg
/system/media/audio/ui/PowerOff.ogg
/system/media/video/shutdown/shutdown.qmg
/system/media/video/shutdown/shutdown.qmg.cover
first 4 files are to do with boot animation, next 2 are the boot and shutdown sounds and the last 2 are shutdown animation.
once you copy them accross, you msut set permisions on all files to rw-r--r--
an example of a flashable zip is attached, and this just saves the bother of doing it all manually. just flash it from custom recovery (and maybe need to wipe dalvik and cache, I've heard that changes to system files on odex roms require this?)
p.s. the attached file is the s5 boot animations and sounds. i didn't make it....can't remember where i got it, so apologies to the creator
I tried to use live dmesg lite to change my boot animation, this failed and I ended up in a boot loop. Some recovery adb fiddling later and I've got a bootable Nexus 10 again, which is great, but now I have no boot animation at all. I noticed that since I told live dmesg to uninstall the animation I have no /system/bin/bootanimation file at all.
If I want the animation back would it be as straight forward as replacing that file? If so, is there anyone here who could provide it? If not, what do I need to do?
Here's a link for the original animation. Just adding the boot animation file should work, I presume. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1MWexkzYR_bcG96UVJhTzl1MEk/edit?usp=docslist_api

I lost my boot animation !! I tried to mod the bootanimation and accidentally used the bootanimation4u.zip found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063280).
I now have no boot animation and it does not seem to want to take any .zip file I place in the Media or Local folders.
Thoughts?
Are you running stock ROM?

Have you verified the boot animation.zip permissions to be rw-r--r-- ?
