Update NAND SD Rom - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

SORRY FOR THE WRONG TITLE!!! I GOT THAT ROM INSTALLED ON MY SD CARD!!!
ON MY NAND I GOT WINDOWS PHONE 8
Hey guys I got a SD EXT Rom..
[ROM][720p] NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.2 [NativeSD]
Well and today I saw that there's a 1.3a...
I want to update my HD2 But actually I don't know how to do that...
First of all I need to keep all my Apps , Pictures and Settings..
I need to Download that ROM and Install IT like I did on my old rom too?
Do I need to Full Wipe my Phone before? What are the steps -.-?
Or Can I go to 4EXT Recovery.. And just select.. install zip from SD Card.. without wipe the whole Phone + SD Card before?
I read that I'm able to do that IF it's the SAME Rom ..This procedure will just overwrite the old Rom with the new one... without wipeing or losing any apps or settings or personal data
regards

click edit on your first post, then click 'go advanced', , it will let you change the title of the thread.

No need to wipe, just flash over the old one. However, be aware that the partition size could have changed (particularly with NexusHD2) and if it has increased you'll have to flash the new partition first. Just to be sure, always backup in titanium backup or CWM first.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda app-developers app

he's using nativesd so no partition stuff needed,
however never having done an update of a nativesd rom myself, i can't comment on whether 4ext will try and install the update as a new nativesd installation, or over the top of the old one (since you can have many roms, so i assume there must be a way to tell it to flash to a current nativeSD rather than as a new rom, , i dunno, which is why i didn't comment first time )

Neither have I actually :') @OP, ignore the partition thing However, I think in aroma installer it gives you an option to choose which type of installation you want so make sure to choose NativeSD. As I said earlier, backup before doing this. I've searched a little and I'm reasonably sure the update process is to install just as you would install a new ROM.

FWIW, I just upgraded my NativeSD installation of NexusHD2-JellyBean-CM10 from v1.2 to v1.3a by just installing the new zip file "over" the old installation. The install was just like a new install, I only selected to wipe the Dalvik cache (I don't know if that was necessary). On first boot, Android did it's "optimizing apps" thing, then started. Everything looks normal, and according to the NativeSDMultiBoot app, there is only one NexusHD2-JellyBean ROM. A quick check with File Explorer confirms this.
This thread was useful to me - thanks!

Happy to help, i normally overwrite without wiping dalvik, and only wipe it if it doesn't boot.

[Q][11Jan] Possibly silly question about Clockwork recovery..

Hi guys,
Ive been reading about Clockwork recovery (watched the videos etc.) but still have a question.
I am using this rom on my HD2: NexusHD2-Froyo V1.9b NAND
I have configured my phone with all my personal settings, app, etc. and I want to install clockwork recovery so that I can install Apps2SD (using the .zip installation file). My 8GB SDcard is already partitioned with 1GB ext4 partition following the 7GB fat32 partition.
The question is can I install clockwork recovery without having to flash a new rom afterwards thus loosing all my current configuration? Or installing clockwork (copy files to SD root, then flash etc) does not affect current installed NAND rom?
Sorry if I was supposed to get this info through the various threads - I just could not find a clear answer.
Regards,
F
copy over the 2 files it tells you to and follow the insteructions, it wont do anything tothe existing installtion, well it didnt to me anyways

Want to change ROM but confused about a few things.

Hi.
After getting my HD2 last week I tentatively but successfully flashed my first ROM, which was the Rafdroid 4.0.2.
I had correct radio.
I installed HSPL 2.08.
I installed MAGLDR 1.13
I got the Rafdroid ZIP file
Prepared SD card with Primary Partition and 1GB ext3 partition.
Downloaded the 400MB CWM partition and flashed to HD2
Then installed the Rafdroid Zip from SD card via CWM.
Everything seemed to go fine and I've been using the Rafdroid for a week. But now I want to try a new ROM, specifically the NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.7 ROM.
Now I'am a bit unsure on how best to proceed still being new to the world of NAND. A few things in the Nexus ROM thread confuse me.
Installing CWM_Recovery_for_NexusHD2 (135MB system and 2MB cache)
Does this mean I need to reflash to CWM partiton size 1.3v 150MB? I'm unsure what the 2MB cache means.
Enter ClockworkMod Recovery when you're on MAGLDR 1.13 (hold "Power" button during boot) and select "AD Recovery" or "Boot AD SD" (if ever copied CWM's initrd.gz and zImage to SD).
The first part of this I understand but I don't know what the bold bit is. Do I need to copy these files to my sd card? I didn't do anything like this when I flashed Rafdoid.
Thanks for your time. Hopefully a few pointers can get me on my way
Yes, reflash cwm but with a different partition layout.
(look in cwm folder find flash.cfg, open it in notepad, you will see the numbers to change)
The bit in bold - ignore that, there are two types of cwm, one that installs to the nand, like you have, and one that runs from sd, so ignore the sd bit.
So,
Into magldr,,
usb flashing,,,
flash the new layout with the sizes the rom suggests, (you can tinker with your own sizes as you get used to changing, it's the system size that is important, a few meg bigger than the unzipped size of the system folder in the rom.zip)
When that completes, back into magldr,
Ad recovery (option 8 I think) to boot cwm, and flash the rom.
You can set the system size to what you like, so long as it is bigger than the roms system folder, but anything over is wasted, it doesn't count towards internal storage, so if the rom says 135 and you flash 150 layout, there is 15meg wasted space. (that being said, 150 is a good size to use, since quite a few roms use that or smaller,, sense free roms will mostly all fit in 150 layouts,) meaning you can switch between them without flashing cwm again. Also means you can restore cwm backups from any of them into that layout, so you can set one up, take backup, flash another, take backup, flash a third, then any time restore either of the backups.
Use flash.cfg to change partition.. Btw. I read in NexusHD rom topic you need to flash 135MB system and 2MB cache.
About the second problem:
Just make sure you have zipped rom on your sd card, enter MAGLDR, select AD Recovery and flash zip.
I think the second way is possible if you manually copy those files, never tried it.
Hi Sam and volv.
Many thanks for taking the time to answer my queries!
Should I get rid of the Rafdroid sd card layout and just re format the card to FAT32? I don't think I'll be going back to it.
Another thing about the backup - where are they stored - in the NAND memory or on the sd card for loading back into NAND?
Everything else you've posted has been very clear and super helpful. I'll definitely be a lot more confident at flashing the ROM tomorrow!
Thank you.

Hi,
Before starting anything,BACKUP YOUR STUFF.
Go to ad recovery>backup and restore and make a backup of your current system and data. This is stored on your sd card in clockworkmod/backup.
Next ,flash your new partition.
Then go to ad recovery and wipe data, cache partition, and dalvik(advanced)
Then go back and choose install zip from sd card(having placed your new ROM zip on the root of your sd card using a card reader)
Most roms support using the ext partition, so definitely keep it.
Before you flash, in cwm, do a 'wipe data/factory reset','wipe cache', and then 'advanced - wipe dalvik cache'. This will clear out the data and such from the previous rom, so no need to format it. (there may be some leftover folders from certain apps in the fat32 partition, you can manually delete them as and if necessary, shouldnt cause any problems)
backups get saved to the sd card, in a folder called clockwork, so be sure and back that up if you plan on formatting your sd card.
Hi again.
I just want to say the flash went like clockwork (no pun intended ) The NexusHD ROM has a really nice feel to it. Its my first taste of stock Android and I like it.
I was going to sell the HD2 and keep my old Hero, but I'm not so sure now after trying NEXUS HD ROM.
Hmmn decisions decisions.
Once again thanks for all your help. It definitely filled in the missing blanks.
Ta Ta
you can use every flash.cfg and change the values to the needet. Run the flash tool and after that flash the zip via recovery

[Q] Reset android

Hi, I'm new on this forum, and I already have a problem
I just got my HD2 with android running from the phone. I was an xperia and WM user before, so I decided to give it a try. I'm trying to reset the phone (so I can costumize android) via Settings-Privacy-factory data reset, but it wont work, I hit the button "Erase everything" and noting happens.
Is there any other way to do this, maybe from the "boot manager" (I dont know the proper term for this).
...oh yes, I dont know witch specific rom is installed, I only know it is android 2.3.4
By "running from the phone " I assume you mean nand.
Turn on phone, hold power till get magldr screen, in magldr choose Ad recovery, when clockwork starts choose "wipe data factory rwsst" and "wipe cache" then restart.
yes I tried that before but it says "no boot sources"
so I guess I'm without clockwork...and I guess also this can be installed only when you install a new ROM..

Hi,
Backup your data before you start.
Download THIS TOOL (Don't forget to thank him)
Find your new ROM and determine the new partition size.
In the toolkit highlight Magldr update recovery, choose your size and update.
Then go to ad recovery and wipe data, cache partition, and dalvik(advanced).
Then install ROM.
The new partition + the wiping will thouroughly clean you up .
Tnx for the help, but I think I'm going to put WM back because I just found out that outlook and google can't be synced so easily as I use outlook for everything it's a shame.
Thank you very much for your help.
I use outlook. Myphoneexplorer syncs fine with outlook. (though I don't sync with google since doing so corrupts many of my contacts custom fields)

Hi,
This tool does a lot of the hard work for you.
Remember to back up your data before you start ,because these processes wipe your system clean.
Yes,this tool wipes your device(Not the sd card).
Re-install everything.
Use the tool to re-partition your system:
system ya 390M
cache ya 5M
Then:
go to ad recovery and wipe data, cache partition, and dalvik(advanced).
then install ROM
so to install a new NAND android rom (HD2 CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V3):
i need to have MAGLDR and before that the right radio and HSPL. I already have all of this because I have installed an android rom.
from what I learned today reading all sorts of things on the forum, is that I can install this rom (HD2 CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V3) or any other also without doing all that staff with the SD card and partitions, CWM... or am I wrong? - From the MAGLDR USB flash. for this to work does the rom have to be a special file type or can it be .zip like for the flashing from the SDcard?
...the CWM allowes me to backup and update android, or so I understend it?
but is it possible to install via MAGLDR #4 option and install CWM afterwards?
forgot: this tool kit enables me to do all this: install new MAGLDR, CWM an then I falsh the rom? I don't understand how it works

Hi,
Backup your data before you start
Read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
Magldr repartition(use 5 usb flasher) (390MB, 5MB cache)
Then 8 ad recovery>wipe data,cache partition,dalvik(advanced)
Then go to install zip from sd card
Choose zip from sd card (which you should have placed on the root of your sd card, using a card reader)
After installation,reboot.
Give it time.
Some ROMS take 15-20 minutes to install.
aha so if I repartition MAGLDR my device will be wiped an the CWM will be installed. the partition sizes that you suggested are for the rom (HD2 CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V3) that I'm trying to install? (I cant yet post in their thread so can't ask them)
and if I can ask this particular rom can be installed only by partitioning and flashing it by sdcard or also in MAGLDR?

Can I put the .zip ROM in the SD card by connecting the phone before I start the whole process like I would put music on or does it have to be formatted and empty with only rom on it?

Hi,
Sd card does NOT need to be formatted.
It is best to put the new ROM onto the root of your sd card,USING A CARD READER.
This will avoid any data corruption.

Nand problem

Hi
During more than year of my "android on hd2 experience" I've had no problems at all. To be honest i became quite handy on this field.
recently I was using two roms daily HyperDroid-CM7 and testing NexusHD2-IceCreamSandwich Beta.
on NexusHD2 rom i install Data2SDInstaller.
and my problem started when I wanted to go back to HyperDroid.
boot animation stuck, of course i tried clk / magdlr different partition sizes always task29...without any effects. Now I tried NexusHD2 ICS 4.0.3 CM9 V1.0 , finally went through boot animation, when i saw Setup Wizard the messages appear immediately: "Unfortunetly, the process ....... has stopped" and when I click OK appears next and the next message , such as contacts, Email, calendar, etc. i thing all of the possible .. later message: Setup Wizard not responding.
And it happens on magdlr/300/5
I've read already about bad NAND blocks, and in recovery.log I did not detect any of them
I tried to run MTTY but I have a problem with drivers win7x64: - /
Does anyone know what's wrong with my HD2 and how to solve it.
you remembered to wipe the sd-ext partition and .android folder (cwm - wipe data / factory reset) right?
there are folders on both sd-ext and on the fat32 partition that will screw with new installs.

Like he said, you need to wipe your sd card, ext and fat32. Both parts. This is majorly important since you used Apps 2SD!!
Another thing, I think your system size is way off. 200/5 for cLK if not 180/5 and for magldr probably like 200/44 but at least 10mb of cache..
I'm not too sure if this will help or not but this is my experience.
I have been on these forums for a while and using Hyperdroid for quite some time now as well. The reason why I do not have any posts on this account is because I switched over just today, my old account was imarte068.
When trying to update my Hyperdroid the other day through magdlr I encountered an issue. No matter the partition size or sd-card, it always managed to get stuck on boot. I got frustrated and attempted to re-flash countless times. After many attempts I gave up and just used an MIUI rom.
Several days later I devoted myself to solving the issue. After about an hour or so of trial and error I fixed it. I simply re-flashed the kernel after the installation of the rom. I am using magdlr therefore I do not know if the process will be the same for clk.
Hope I could be of help.
I thought it was a sdcard and i delete all partition and make it new.
I do always full wipe and dalvic...

Try re-flashing the kernel as I said in the post above.
Link to kernel here.
Hope I could be of help.
This may spur some argument, but in my experience task 29 is the key if you're having problems. many people say wipe with cwm the system boot davlik cache, etc but in my testing when I'm having a problem and need to solve it task 29 has been the answer almost everytime. Partition size is huge as well. Another thing if you were using apps2 SD on ics it was bugged. Without formatting your SD it is possible that it could bug your system.

Im using 220 with 5mb cache. ICS running smooth without any problems. And no need to fully wipe sdcard. Would be stupid to delete the whole card just for flashing a new rom hehe. Its enough to wipe the (dalvik) cache and sd-ext partition via CWM.
For data2sd use the 'how to' from post #207 and the flashable file from post #174 in tytungs ics cm9 v1 thread. I think it removes old app2sd or data2sd scripts. Worked without any formatting of my sdcard.. works like a charm.
Btw.. ever tried to fix permissions? First thing you should try if you get FC.
Just do (re)install the rom like the guy in post #207 described but with the file from #174 (40ad2sdx-a2Recovery.zip)
And im using my hd2 now for more then one year. NEVER used task29.

As I said people will disagree. I will say that in most cases you're right though, wiping the davlik cache is enough. I am just saying from my personal experience there are sometimes when it isn't (at least on my phone). I'm not trying to start an argument, I just want to help him.

big thanks mates for advice.
So far I haven't had time for it but for sure tomorrow or on the weekend, I will deal with this and I will let you know how it goes.
In brief I run ICS all fine, but HyperDroid not starting.
Here is how i try:
________
Ok I was using WP7 and whats I made:
SD card: I delete all partition, I make only one Fat32 than in CWM I made ext partition.
Task29 > Clk 200/5 > recovery > install HyperDroid-CM7-v5.7.0 > And here phone stuck before boot animation, only white android robo > then as flamgodian advice I install kernel thins. > Same without boot animation.
Second try
Task29>clk 220/5>recovery>wipe(all possible)>install HyperDroid-CM7-v5.7.0>same robo>fix permision> install kernel this> I saw robo for 10s and phone self reboot after reboot > stuck :/
I have not seen even the boot animation.
Task29>clk 220/5>recovery>wipe(all possible)>install NexusHD2-ICS-CM9>Kernel>
He goes
__
I make like redplate(Big Thanks) write with installation 40ad2sdx, and everything runs great.
I will stay with ICS but it is strange why my phone doesn't like HyperDroid Rom.
And from here I would like to thank you all for advice.

[Q] Stuck on green htc logo after flashing NexusHD2-ICS-CM9-HWA V3.0b to NAND

hi all,
so i've been trying this out for two days and no luck also i've searched for it on the forums
so what i've done so far:
-installed 2.08.HSPL
-the 2.15.50.14 radio
-installed MAGLDR
-flashed CMW with a partition with 200 system 5 cache
flashed the rom via zip installation
and it rebootes and just freezes on the green htc logo on the black background for over an hour and i did a task 29 wipe and stated allover again but with no luck... what am i missing here ?
also how do i prepare my sd so i can install data on ex for that rom ? like from the beggingin what should i do?
and have i mentioned im a noob
Are you sure you're doing NAND install? Or NAND with data on EXT? Cause if you're not having EXT partition on SD card - it's not gonna work for sure (explains why you're stuck on loading screen I guess)
"flashed the rom via zip installation" - make sure you're using correct type of install, out of ideas if you're doing it with NAND (ONLY) option.
well i am sure im installing on NAND because i chose it from the AROMA installer..
say i will flash it on NAND with data on EXT for a change , can you direct me to the right steps for partitioning the sd ?
because all the guides i saw here for prepairing the sd were applicable after i install the rom on NAND ...
The easiest way is to backup your sdcard first, because this will wipe it completely. Go into recovery, then advanced and finally choose partition sd card. I suggest choosing 1024MB, and 0 swap. It will take a while, then return your stuff back into the card and try installing the ROM again.
Or, you can use a desktop software to partition it (use google).
thanks for replying ..
so i partitioned my sd and installed the rom on NAND with data on EXT and my phone still stops at the green htc on black logo
what am i missing here ? has this ever occurred before ?
Are you sure you're using wipe option before installing a new rom? (Task29 @ HTC HD2 ToolKit) cause if you're doing it without any wipeout of your phone memory it won't work either, if it's not that, then I'm out of ideas.
However, Ill make a step-step guide, atleast one which I do before flashing new rom.
#1 wipe, Task29
#2 repartition for the system memory etc, I choose 200mb for system (need some space for additional mods xd)
#3 Install MAGLDR
#4 I don't repartition my SD everytime (moving 30gbs out of it is a pain tbh), but find repartitioning of SD card in Recovery, repartition it to EXT4 format
#5 move your rom .zip to sd card after the SD card is partitioned
#6 install the ROM through CWM, should work after that, make sure that you ALREADY have SD CARD PARTITIONED if you're using NAND+DATA on EXT option, cause otherwise it won't work
I always do it this way and it works, correct me if I missed something there cause I'm already doing it without thinking.
Look my signature and mark your bad blocks for once. After that try to flash rom again with bigger system partition.
Sent from my HD2 using xda app-developers app
OK , I've solved the problem .. i flashed cLK and everything went great ..
i guess something's wrong with MAGLDR and my phone .. thanks everyone for replying
