Power saving mode is just a crap - Galaxy S III General

I kept my phone standby for 9 1/2 hours with Wi-Fi ,sync opened and in that time my 10% was drained......then I kept the phone on standby for the same time period and this time power saving mode was on and Wi-Fi and sync were off but the battery drained was the same 10%........... so does this power saving mode really works or is it just........

For me is working just fine, I get like 15-20% more battery time with Power Saving mode ON

You can't possibly notice it when your phone is in standby whole time. You can notice your battery drains slower when you actually you using your phone. For example it lowers max cpu clock, which means if you use your phone, your max cpu clock will be lower than default values. in standby its always low so it doesnt affect battery drain.
* it depends on your power saving settings.

that's the reason it craps out when playing dead trigger or asphalt7. That time I switch off PS mode. Other than that it helps in the sense that it allows the battery to drain slower.

I really haven't found any use for the power saving feature. It slows down games a lot and it doesn't have any use when the device is idle. Dilemma, dilemma.

Power saving works wonders for me.
Try having endomondo recording workouts and listening to music with power saving off and on and then come back and tell us it doesn't work

Power saving mode is awesome everyday at work before i start my shift i leave my phone on power save mode. I make calls and use whats app with power save mode on. Whatsapp i just switch on data but leaving power save on. Anyway my battery is still 70 to 80 percent by the end of my shift..
So maybe it's just your phone for me this is the best feature ever.

Power saving is crap slowing the device as hell
even the app drawer become slow and its stutter as **** with PS :silly:
but its good if someone need to save some battery

Power saving mode does not work for me too.
My S3 was slow as hell and lag most of time.

If your device was slow it means that PS is working just well, doesn't you think? Mine is fast enougb, even with power saver turned on. Most of time I have it enabled.

Only problem I had with power saving and auto brightness on at the same time is little flicker/stutter of screen after wake up,for which I can't find anywhere weather is it normal or not. Other than that it does miracles.

CM battery use

On stock my battery use would indicate display as the most used item under battery use.
On CM, however, cell standby and cell idle I think takes up 43 and 40 percent respectively while display only takes up 5 percent... is this normal? I thought on a highly efficient system, display would usually be the most taxing power draw item.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
P.s. big ups to toast and the CM team for making it happen!

Same here. Battery lasted longer on sense roms for me

On the hero, sometimes going into and out of airplane mode would kill the ol' TWOS (time without signal) bug.
I will try the airplane mode trick on tomorrows charge and report back!

Similar situation here, though mine shows display at 15%. I seem to have similar overall battery life as I did on stock though.
For the most part, unless you never turn your screen on, display should be number one

I see the same thing as the OP, however I find that my battery life is improved in CM7. I am running Nightly 35 right now, but it was pretty much the same in RC4.1 as well.
Still testing but looks the same... phone idle and cell signal take up the most but display is now 10%.
On stock I got 48 hours off a charge if I stuck to wifi places. It would be 24 hours in and id have something like 56percent left.
On cm I'm 8 hours into this experiment and have 44 percent left.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA Premium App
I've also noticed my battery life isnt near as much as it was with a Sense rom. I looked today after reading this post and realised it said I was 59% time without signal when I havnt dropped service once. I wonder why that is... Hopefully they get this figured out as I really liked how CM6 gave my Hero more battery life over stock not the opposite.
My cell standby is right at the top with 37% but my time without a signal is 0%
Ok day two of testing coming to an end... I tried the suggestion of turning on airplane mode this morning then off to see if it made a difference.
Off the charger at 8am
At 15% 10:28 pm
Cell stand by 32%
Phone idle 25%
Wifi fall in the middle here somewhere
Display 5%
Still not the kind of batterylife I got on stock. I just goto school and home these days pretty much same routine everyday and constantly on wifi.
I'm gonna try to set the clockspeed down from default of 1ghz in cm to 800 to mimick stock tomorrow and see if that makes a difference. Then maybe try a new kernal like x99 later on in the week.
Will report back!

I'm getting better battery life, by quite a bit. But I just noticed I've been running at 800MHz under the "conservative" governor, so that explains part of it
how's the responsiveness on the conservative govener? Any lockscreen lags or anything?

I haven't noticed much lag if any. Except occasionally when opening some apps, not enough that it ever really bothers me.
I switched it to run at 1209 MHz, and I can just about watch the battery percentage drop, so there's a definite difference there

Any appreciable increase in battery life by using Power Saving?

Has anyone done back to back tests of using Power Saving mode through a whole charge vs. not?
I have done this, I was able to increase my battery life by more than 1 hour. I did have to disable the background screen setting however, it didn't work great with the stock email app, and my emails appeared blank, because it would change the text to white, but not change the background to black.
I'm in the process of doing this
it worked reasonably well, probably about 20% or so improvement. I then uninstalled a bunch of bloat and lowered brightness more and have it at 2 days with light use.
I'm trying to figure this out as well. Although I can very easily tell the difference with power savings on, it DEFINITELY takes a performance hit. If it nets less than an hour improvement, totally not worth the performance hit.
I was able to make it all through today and finished with 28%, all with power savings off. I think the auto brightness tends to keep the screen a little too bright for indoor settings, so I turned that off and went with a nice low level.
I might try power savings without the CPU limit option checked. What power savings is applied to the screen? Is it just refresh rate and brightness?
I noticed a difference when using screen power saving. The description says it causes slightly lower frame rates which I haven't actually noticed. But I did notice lower battery usage from the screen.
I didn't want to touch the CPU savings because I don't really want to sacrifice performance to save battery.

Sony Xperia Z with Stamina mode

Hi,
Got this phone,
extremely beautiful!!
like it very much,
screen is terrific!
when playing music with ClearAudio+ on (i have Shure SE215SE) wow, it is just amazing!
However, i have problem keeping the phone in power.
What i mean is even with the stamina mode on (no applications added),
in 4 hours, the battery can be drained to 17% from full.
During these time, heavily game on "Vector, Zombie Smasher, photo at 5M, whatsapp, facebook"
Setting: LTE, HSPA+ , Bravia engine, brightness 80%, GPS on, no wifi, no bluetooth
Is the above usage normal with these battery life? I can have far better battery with Galaxy S3 with everything on (but no LTE, no power saving) and have at least 65%
How can i achieve better battery life with this phone?

i think it is because LTE turn on cause it is eating battery life quicker than 3g or hspa. just look at the some other brand. most of the pattern i see was when it is lte feature they are likely putting more mah than the ordinary one.
I do agree the LTE is eating up the battery,
It has been 11 hours since i turn on my phone (100%)
only wifi connection
whatsapp, light browsing and now i have 61% which is similar to the Galaxy S3 i have. (Stamina mode help much, it really not receiving any msg from whatsapp until i turn on the screen)
But LTE is a must for me, i will use LTE for sure, i am paying LTE service but not using it? that is not reasonable
but in this way, LTE will drain battery faster than i can find a power source.
Heavy gaming is going to eat up the battery much quicker than just screen on time browsing.

That's normal for pretty much every smartphone... It's the screen that drains the battery more than the data, really.
the battery can last over 24hours with stamina mode,
light phone calls, light whatsapp, light browsing, moderate game
all from wifi connection, 3g data is blocked.
by the way, do you find that bravia engine 2 makes the saturation too high?
So I'm just trying out Stamina mode and put a few key apps in the whitelist. Just now though I got a message regarding one of my downloaded apps stating "contacts+ is preventing it from going into Stamina mode" in my notification bar. When I click it it takes me to app info page of the said app (contacts+) but not really sure what to do about it from here? Notifications for that app were already off. Should I clear cache/date would that make any difference?
I don't understand this this. At 100% battery it says 18h without STAMINA it says 9h. I know this is normal but how did you manage to get it shows you 1 day and over with STAMINA?

Bad battery life

My Note 3 seems to be able to get only 4-5 hours of screen time while on 4G. Using Wi-Fi doesn't improve the battery life much either.
My brightness is set to auto and mostly used indoors. I've also used set cpu to limit cup usage to 960 mhz, installed greenify but nothing seems to help. Mostly surfing the web, fb, Twitter etc
I felt that I got better battery life out of it during the first week of my purchase 3 weeks ago. But ever since last week it's been getting bad.
Any ideas why?

batt life
Although the Note 3 is a beast of a phone..all the functions that it has are also battery hogs.. what you dont need to use frequently, can be turned off with the factory toggles..
things like air gesture, command, motions, (turning power sav mode on) wifi off, live wallpapers, lookout antivirus, and if you press the 3 line icon at top right, there are 20 functions that can potentially drain battery..nfc, air view, smart stay..etc.. also, try battery doctor app to help control additional consumption. Turn the fucntions on only as needed..
OR- Get an extended battery or just a battery like mugen or zero lemon battery..with extra power within same parameters, similar dimensions. etc. hope this helps. REMEMBER - like a cop car, that has all those lights, radios, laptop- they run a bigger battery AND a huge alternator.
I have all the fancy system apps and features already disabled with root app delete. What's weird is it happens when I'm doing basic web brwosing.
The battery also seems to be draining at 1% per hour while the screen is turned off, is this supposed to happen?
Or could it be a faulty battery?

Use juice defender to turn off data when your phone is not being used (deep sleep), use this as a temporary measure I would say while u use the various battery stats monitoring tools to find the actual culprit.
Sounds like an app issue. Have you installed any new apps recently that may coincide with the sudden poor battery performance? I don't use any power saving apps and leave all my Samsung features enabled and still get over a full day's worth of use.
Are you in a poor reception area? Perhaps you should consider a factory reset. If that doesn't change anything, exchange your device for a new one.

How is that a problem
Are you saying that if you left your phone fully charged and didnt touch it. It would last over 4 days
and you think this is bad battery life
Many many factors can cause battery drain apps you use sync of apps, signal strength, brightness, sensors, google now,s-voice etc.
themes you use
Using black themes will use less battery because an led display will turn off the black areas of the screen etc which is how it achieves the best black contrasts.
I myself have the same use 4-5 hrs of on screen battery which i find great as i can take my phone and use it all day without a problem
people who have 7-8 hrs of on screen time per day on there phone should really seek counselling or go to AA meetings as you have a problem
As to disabling features of the phone Buying a smartphone and disabling all the features that make it a smart phone is pretty pointless if you ask me
It's been the same for me. The first couple of weeks I had the phone the battery was amazing. I could last 2 days easily with heavy usage. I'd say since the most recent update I had on this phone the battery life has been draining significantly faster. I now have to charge my phone each night as it is always hovering around 30%
Do you guys think the update has anything to do with this issue?

Battery Life!

I am just absolutely STUNNED at the battery life on this thing. 46hrs total and 6hrs SOT on one charge, and I still had 5% left (probably could've got another hour of total time on and another 1/2 hour SOT). Pretty damn great if you ask me. It lasted me 2 full work days!
Battery Life pics= http://imgur.com/a/FhyGW
I do have some tricks though, maybe this can help yall. At around 10-11pm (an hour or 2 before bed) I put on power saving mode, bc at that time I am not using my phone much. I also activate and keep on power saving mode at 20% until I need to charge. My PSM settings are: -10% decrease brightness, screen resolution= HD, CPU Speed Limiter= on, Background network usage= on (turn off for even more superb idle battery life), Always on Display= off. Lastly, I have a Tasker profile that will turn auto brightness off, and my brightness way down whenever I am connected to WiFi, and I believe that helps as well.
I've had the GS3, GS4, GS5, GS6 & now GS8. The GS8 is by far my favorite and in a league of it's own IMO. How's your battery life on your Sprint GS8+?!
