My Note 3 seems to be able to get only 4-5 hours of screen time while on 4G. Using Wi-Fi doesn't improve the battery life much either.
My brightness is set to auto and mostly used indoors. I've also used set cpu to limit cup usage to 960 mhz, installed greenify but nothing seems to help. Mostly surfing the web, fb, Twitter etc
I felt that I got better battery life out of it during the first week of my purchase 3 weeks ago. But ever since last week it's been getting bad.
Any ideas why?

Although the Note 3 is a beast of a phone..all the functions that it has are also battery hogs.. what you dont need to use frequently, can be turned off with the factory toggles..
things like air gesture, command, motions, (turning power sav mode on) wifi off, live wallpapers, lookout antivirus, and if you press the 3 line icon at top right, there are 20 functions that can potentially drain battery..nfc, air view, smart stay..etc.. also, try battery doctor app to help control additional consumption. Turn the fucntions on only as needed..
OR- Get an extended battery or just a battery like mugen or zero lemon battery..with extra power within same parameters, similar dimensions. etc. hope this helps. REMEMBER - like a cop car, that has all those lights, radios, laptop- they run a bigger battery AND a huge alternator.
I have all the fancy system apps and features already disabled with root app delete. What's weird is it happens when I'm doing basic web brwosing.
The battery also seems to be draining at 1% per hour while the screen is turned off, is this supposed to happen?
Or could it be a faulty battery?

Use juice defender to turn off data when your phone is not being used (deep sleep), use this as a temporary measure I would say while u use the various battery stats monitoring tools to find the actual culprit.
Sounds like an app issue. Have you installed any new apps recently that may coincide with the sudden poor battery performance? I don't use any power saving apps and leave all my Samsung features enabled and still get over a full day's worth of use.
Are you in a poor reception area? Perhaps you should consider a factory reset. If that doesn't change anything, exchange your device for a new one.

How is that a problem
Are you saying that if you left your phone fully charged and didnt touch it. It would last over 4 days
and you think this is bad battery life
Many many factors can cause battery drain apps you use sync of apps, signal strength, brightness, sensors, google now,s-voice etc.
themes you use
Using black themes will use less battery because an led display will turn off the black areas of the screen etc which is how it achieves the best black contrasts.
I myself have the same use 4-5 hrs of on screen battery which i find great as i can take my phone and use it all day without a problem
people who have 7-8 hrs of on screen time per day on there phone should really seek counselling or go to AA meetings as you have a problem
As to disabling features of the phone Buying a smartphone and disabling all the features that make it a smart phone is pretty pointless if you ask me
It's been the same for me. The first couple of weeks I had the phone the battery was amazing. I could last 2 days easily with heavy usage. I'd say since the most recent update I had on this phone the battery life has been draining significantly faster. I now have to charge my phone each night as it is always hovering around 30%
Do you guys think the update has anything to do with this issue?

mine barley lasts until evening when I plug it back in... but thats just how these phones are. 1% in 2 hours is very unlikely unless you just don't use it and have everything disabled.

indeed what a troll
Just turning off push email/notifications can have a significant effect on battery run time. I doubled my run time by putting some reasonable settings on my sync intervals.
I refresh my exchange account every 15 mins during peak-time ( 1 hour off-peak ), Tweetdeck every 2 hours, all other accounts hourly. With moderate use I have no problem going 24 hours on a single charge.
Also be on the lookout for misbehaving apps. I had a single dormant streaming app sitting in the background using over 10% of my battery. I kill that app manually after every use.

My battery last about 24hrs on average. I bought extra batteries and I have run each of them until they hit 1% and then I use and external battery charger, bought of of ebay, came with 2 batteries and a charger for them for 14 bucks, and i do have certian things i do that drain more than others, but for instance i watch a 2 hour movie, and started with a fresh battery, (99%) and when the movie was over I was at 73%, much better than when i first got my phone, but i also still use advance task manager which everyone says is bad for the phone, but i just use it and exempt everything that is used for normal operations, then it only kills the apps i have used and want to kill. now the settings does allow you to do this by each app, but i am just lazy and paid for the app back on my G1 days and it makes killing them in widget form so one click. i just tried to exclude all the things that the phone uses to operate smoothly, and kill the rest of the garbage apps, also you can try a program autostarts, i have it as it suggested it in the app forum sticky, costs a buck, but i used it, not sure how much it helps, but like i said all I have done and how i use all of my battery each and every use now gives me outstanding battery life. No 8 days or anything but still tons better than my G1 and i didn't keep much running like i do on this one. Also turn off auto brightness, and just use the slide if you need to turn it up, dont use live wallpapers and turn it to use 2g only, and then when you need the 3g turn that back on, there is widgets to get for that so its a one click as 3g really drains the battery, so when not in use go to 2g if your not surfing the web or wacthing videos off a site, doing those things will help the life of your battery.

That just means that your while your phone was turned on, 74 percent of the total power was used by your display.
Makes sense because you turned your screen on for about 74% of the time.

Hmm probably only an hours worth of "apparatus" - game, good couple of hours on google reader, facebook etc. no more than an hour on the phone.
my "normal" usage really; not trying to be overly conservative, but also not constantly on. certainly nothing to suggest that I'm getting any worse battery life than I did on 2.3.x

Here's mine. A day and half. Similar battery performance with GB even though that Android OS is way too high (higher than Screen)
Yes; that Android OS' looks like a statistic and therefore has a 87.8% chance of being made up on the spot (like that one!).
This is a sample of my battery life and quite unusual for me; Mobile Standby is the highest because I spent five or so hours in an area with very poor coverage, when it could get a signal it was 2G.
Wifi is on when I know I have a hotspot I can use. AutoSync off unless I need it. Bluetooth wasn't used. Screen brightness mostly at the minimum with some time at Auto. Latitude constantly running in automatic update.
Screen on time was 2 hours, 30 minutes and that included approximately 20 minutes of Google Maps (not Navigation).
The biggest difference I've made on my device is to log out of Google+. My use is mostly checking two Gmail accounts, browsing the web, using DropBox / Documents-to-Go, texting, some photography.
Disabling Latitude's AutoUpdate stops the device from waking up with the screen off (all those little blue ticks on the use bar) and makes a big difference to battery life when I'm on the move.
How can you guys take screenshot on stock?
Hold down power and vol. down simultaneously for a second or two for a screenshot.
Also, nice battery life. I've been running about a day with ~50% left, 2 hours of screen time and somewhere around 30 - 45mins gaming. WiFi on all day and calls/texting was minimal.
Have a look https://plus.google.com/u/0/105051985738280261832/posts/FV3LVtdVxPT More insight regarding Android OS from google engineer.

I found juice defender in the past to be a battery problem instead of a solution.
what's your battery now? how much juice do you get?
I think that anyone who experiences bad battery life should exchange their phone or battery. I can go two days without recharging and still have 29 % left. That 29 % might even last me through the 3rd day but I would prefer not to risk it.
I did a little test today.
I unplugged the phone at 7am when i got up.
I only turned it on for a couple of seconds, twice, to check battery level, and it had gone down to 75% by 9am. (so by 9am, no more than 1 minute max screen-on time)
Is that worse that others?
My battery does (like everyone else's) immediately drop to 99% on unplugging it - actually, sometimes 98% right away.
I'm surprised anyone gets more than a day's worth out of it?
I also noticed, when it was on my desk, that the screen switches on, on it's own every now & then. Maybe every half hour or so?
Is that also normal?
I'm having a bit of trouble with my battery aswell. I only have 54% left with only 1h15 screen on time and that was only for some texting and browsing.
Is this normal or should I go back to he store to check the battery?
Also, should I try the free version of Juice Defender or is it not worth to use it unless you have the paid version?

Dropping 25% in 2 hours time with a display on time of 1 minute is definitely much more drain than normal. My phone usually drops around 2-3% per hour if it's unused on my desk.
I also find it weird that your display switches on every now and then by itself.
You have a lot of apps that poll the net for data in the background? (facebook, twitter and so on)
Are you on wifi when this happens, or mobile data?
Try turning off sync altogether some day and see how much it drains your battery per hour.
Hi all ,
Today is my 1st day with new s3 bought yest. night and coming from s2,
My s3 was full charged this morning, and after abt 12 hrs of normal use ( some calls + facebook + whatsapp + viber . . . . . ) battery level is 60%.
I think that by this way new s3 battery will stay normally 2 days . . .
If people are experiencing high battery usage its because of your apps. All battery saving apps do is turn off your data or tweak your syncing.
On wi-fi with no much syncing, you should get about 1-2% drain per hour. On mobile date this goes up to about 2-4% per hour.
Tips for battery save.
- Switch off Google Back up & restore
- Accounts and sync, switch off what you don't need
- Email exchange accounts can be set with a "off-peak syncing"
- Be thorough with news and local based apps. Turn off auto syncing or reduce the frequency in which they sync.
- A good way to check which apps are using data when idle is by going into settings > Data usage. When you click on any of the apps listed, it will show how much data is used in fore/back ground. The ones with high background usage you might want to investigate. You can also disable the app from using data in he background by setting yourself a data limit
- Apps like Facebook, Google+ are battery hogs. So if you don't need it, uninstall.
My battery is awesome so far. 2 days with normal use and 3.5-4 days of light use...

It really depends on your usage. Screen on time tells something, but not everything. For example watching a hd-video eats far less battery than surfing on the internet with 3g. But still, the battery life is great, so no disagreement there.
My battery so far so good
Standard, not too heavy, day by day usage
One thing not mentioned so far is wi-fi. If you are connecting to a 'dodgy' router, this is going to eat into battery life. So if you aren't using it, switch it off.

I've found that rebooting the phone after taking it off of charge, the battery life is awesome. There seem to be some wakelocks that kill the battery and for some reason, charging has something to do with it.
I don't know if this is why, but I heard the G2 has special screen technology that greatly reduces battery drain.

Yeah, somthing about 30% lower battery use or something like that. It's 6 hours since I took mine off the charger, must admit very moderate use, some toying, some photos, some mails and 1 phone call. but still, my phone is at 96% battery. My old S2 would be at 60% at this point.

I tried this and it worked. However, one instance is not proof I guess haha. I will experiment more tomorrow (namely, not rebooting after charging) and let you know what I find. I wonder what specifically about charging may cause wakelocks?

If you look at the programs listed under Android System, try uninstalling the ones that you would never use. This has seemed to help me. But to be honest it was kind of unnessary because the battery life is just crazy badass. In a few weeks or so when the devs have there way this phone is going to be epic.
It is two things, which by the way are great news.
A) LG's screen tech which doesn't refresh pixels when the images are static
and B) IPS
What we can't control is screen power consumption, but guess what? We can control android system consumption through kernels and roms. This means that we can *hopefully* expect EVEN BETTER! battery life since the screen is, for 80% of users, the main culprit for energy drain.
Just a quick note that flashing CleanROM on my ATT LG G2 basically took my battery life from <20% at the end of the workday to just under 80% at the end of the work day with increased use on the CleanROM install. Highly recommended.
Been off the charger since 6:50 this morning. Sitting here at work doing some texting, Words With Friends, and a test call for a co-worker...96% at 12:15pm. My Nexus would have been at 40% by now.
So is Android System different from Android OS?
I normally can squeeze out 15-22 hours since installing Snapdragon Battery Guru. Which has been working great until today.
Here's my situation today:
-100% charge at around 1230am. Light to moderate usage leaves me with
-77% between night before and waking up (only dropped like 2% overnight) at
-830, then i worked from 9 to 1230 so i didnt use my phone too much. But since ive been off work ive been using it more so im not too surprised about my low battery level currently.
But what concerns me is Android OS using half my battery! It says its been active for more than 4 hours and i dont understand where it comes from. Its way more than my screen usage even with a screen time of little over 3 hours.
Anyone know whats up with Android OS? It doesnt tell me what is running when i select it so im lost.
Also ive done many of the suggestions in this thread with positive results. Ive been monitoring my wakelocks and since doing some of the suggestions on here nlpcollector has actually gone down.

Just to benchmark .... I used the phone moderatley ..
I did.. a little over 50 hours of total on time
4.75 hours of on screen time,
2 hours of spotify with bluetooth for the entire time,
2 hours of MapMyRun with GPS running ..
then various text messaging and a couple phone calls
The only modifications i've made to the stop experiance is taking of google's location service for programs, but leaving GPS active .. and changing the screen to auto-brightness, baseline of 50%.
I came from the SGS2 ..... with 1 hour of on screen time and the other spotify and bluetooth .. i'd be around 10-20% after 8-10 hours !!!!!
Mines pretty awesome.

I'm not sure if my battery is defective or not. Right out of the box was around 75% and I drained it until it turned off then charged it to full.
Over the next few days at work it's on wifi and then on 3G/4G before /after work. I pull it from the charger at 7:30am and by 7pm its at 40%. Then on Friday night I unplugged it at 12am with 100% and woke up the next day with 80%. It's dropping like 1% about 10-15minutes. Would a factory reset fix the battery drain? or call for a replacement?

Just to benchmark .... I used the phone moderatley ..
I did.. a little over 50 hours of total on time
4.75 hours of on screen time,
2 hours of spotify with bluetooth for the entire time,
2 hours of MapMyRun with GPS running ..
then various text messaging and a couple phone calls
The only modifications i've made to the stop experiance is taking of google's location service for programs, but leaving GPS active .. and changing the screen to auto-brightness, baseline of 50%.
I came from the SGS2 ..... with 1 hour of on screen time and the other spotify and bluetooth .. i'd be around 10-20% after 8-10 hours !!!!!

wow that's really amazing. ill try that out and disable google location services and see what happens. will that interfere with google now? i mean i would totally sacrifice google now for 50 hours though.

I'm currently on deadly venom v 8.2 on mf3. I only get 2-3hrs screen time w this device. I already greenified all everything connected to Google like maps, services, search, etc. I hate the fact that you even have to do that just to maximize battery life. I don't like turning on and off stuffs like location services, blue tooth, and wifi. I always leave them on. I hate the fact that you need to lower the brightness or readjust the brightness again and again just to increase battery life. That's a no no! I have bad eyes, I use lux dash as my auto brightness. I don't have any background widgets on my phone. My home screen is just filled w apps (no widgets) because they say widgets eat battery. My phone can last the whole day when it's on idle. Battery is 3-4.5% per hour when on idle. It balloons to 15%—25% per hour once I start using it which is very annoying. These are the only apps I use and I always close them all the time. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, viber, Google voice, BBM, Gmail. What can you guys suggest to improve battery life? I don't believe people saying that they last 2 days or even the whole day. That's complete BS. I'll attach a screen shot on from better batter stats when I started making this, I started from 100%
12% in 33mins. Geeeez

You might want to get a new battery... My phone is running Graviton and I have excellent battery life. I keep power saving mode on, use Greenify, turn off Wifi, GPS, and Mobile Data when NOT needed. Generally I push at least a day and a half out of this stock battery before doing a complete charge. I try my best to not let the battery drain 100%.

If it went from 100 to 12% in 33 minutes you have a bad battery, plain and simple.

Right. Bad battery is very likely. That and should be using better battery stats to get a picture of what's going on.
It's not the phone and naming the ROM as if that has something to do with it is bad form.

What he said. I am stock but rooted and using Juice Defender, Greenify, toggling gps and mobile data off etc, I get full day on high usage and 28 hours on light usage. Must be a bad battery.
Meh, did some math. 12% in 33 min did cross-multiplication for 99% battery used, got 272.25 minuets divided by 60 to get an hourly total. You'll be getting 4.5 hours on screen time.
I don't personally think that's bad. Did some more calculations for Nexus 5 on battery. Heard it's getting about 3.5 hours screen on time, so with that to get your 4.5 hours screen on time the nexus 5 would need about a 2960mah battery.
Well, firstly, you should believe that some people's last 2 days or so; as I've seen photos posted by "battery life enthusiasts" in the better-battery-stats thread and other places showing it's possible. 12% in 33 minutes isn't that bad and is around a stock TW battery expectancy.
You're on MF3.. which means you cannot run an AOSP rom, so almost anything your running isn't going to be extremely lightweight for battery. ALL TW based roms will drain battery more than a single AOSP or GPE rom, as the system is a lot more heavy.
I greenify anything associated with the google-cloud or push-notifications, if I want to know my Facebook updates I can click on the app myself. I have location services turned off because there's ZERO reasons to use it unless I have a need for my GPS. Do you know that MANY apps use your location service even when not running and cause constant wake-locks. I've also moved my Google Services Framework from a system app to a user app with Titanium Backup Pro so I can greenify it and completely disconnect myself from Google if I have no needs for the play store or push-notifications. Gmail and gmaps can still run independently fine without the Framework, the GSF is also a major cause of wake-lock battery drain. Even if you greenify google apps, the GSF is still going to cause numerous wake-locks and affect battery.
I don't have a photo at the moment, since my phone is plugged in all the time anyway (just to keep it topped off), but I've had it run for almost 2 days without charging it; with occasional screen time, gaming, and having it idle. I'm also on a non-TW AOKP rom that's very very lightweight.

Here is my battery so far. As you can see, it barely has been used since yesterday. Screen on time is 25 minutes. Wifi is always on and I weather widget reloads every 4 hours. GPS is off though. Obviously, it lasts slightly less than a day if I use extensively with games, web browsing, email. Considering how much I usually use the phone, it does last 2 days.
Im on MF3 and using Wicked rom with SS.
If you get a new battery....
If you are thinking about getting a new battery and don't mind the extra bulk, go for the 7500mAh Zero Lemon Battery. I got one over a month ago and it will EASILY get 3+ days of battery life. It will add a lot of mass to the phone, but if you are looking for stupid battery life, check it out. Right now I have 26 minutes of screen time and 92% battery life left. It's been off charger for over 8 hours.

Edit: Forgot to mention I'm Full Stock / Full Lock.
I have noticed the standby battery on this phone is AMAZING!... but the screen on time is horrible for me too :S... can barely get 3 hours and that is with like 30% brightness... sigh
people said amoled helps save battery... but i used to have muchhh better battery with my htc one
So these are my stats on very light usage. Very good idle time. Just 2.5 hrs screen time
