Hey guys just upgraded to Atrix liking it so far! Never had unlimited data before but couldn't justify having it without unlimited data so been researching the current loophole and just wanted to share what I found out.
1) You must have an iPhone 2G, and a sim card that has never been registered to an iPhone 2G before
2) Hard reset the iphone, put in your simcard, and register the iPhone 2G in iTunes. You will be asked to confirm you agree to $20/month unlimited 2g data + 200 text messages.
3) Check online account to see if plan went through, or call 611 and confirm.
4) Find a CSR that will change your Iphone 2g plan to unlimited smartphone personal. I tried over the phone multiple times and they kept on saying they couldn't do it since the unlimited plan didn't exist before June 2010. I was about to give up but went to a retail location and the guy did it on his computer.
5) Enjoy your unlimited data!
NOTE: Whatever you do DO NOT let them change your data plan off the iPhone data plan. If you lose that plan you need a new simcard and to start over. I think I may have had more difficulties cause I am on a business account, but it still worked!
I am almost certain that you came in my store and I did this for you hahahah
I had someone come in my store this evening who did the samething...we werent in san diego but he lived there
good find though, ill let my customers know that..might be worth it to invest in an iphone 2g and leave it at my store for customers to use

Hmm.... Awkward lol.
I'm Confused. So with this I'm limited to 200 text messages a month? And what exactally do I ask the csr to change in the store? Wouldn't the regular 2g data plan work on the atrix?

Does it stay $20/month...?
what you are doing is making your phone an Iphone 2g.
making your phone an Iphone 2g gives you the unlimited 2g data (that comes with 200 texts as well) for $20.
Our in store systems allow us to go from unlimited 2g $20 to the unlimited 3g/4g data for $30 giving you unlimited data to your atrix/inspire/captivate if you didnt have it before.

You must be the coolest AT&T rep ever! haha
Moving off the EDGE network
I don't know about anywhere else around the country but AT&T is slowly migrating everybody off of the 2G / EDGE network. I don't know how much longer AT&T will allow you to activate 2G iPhones on the network.

So after this is done, is it $30 per month, with unlimited data? Also, am I still limited to the 200 text?
Thanks for your help.

Or you can "request" unlimited data with customer service on a new 2yr contract upgrade or new you have to do it through customer service and it might take a few calls Ive been able to add it without a problem on 4 lines last weekend. If you have 2g/3g data on the device you may experience service issues more awkward than normal by using this method in the OP I had a 3g unlimited on my main line and upgraded without change and pages barley loaded with full bars, this is not recommended to use the iphone data plan.
Will update with the feature code and name as soon as I can.
Would this work with an iPhone 3g? My friend has one lying around I could probably borrow to swing this. Also wondering about the ability to get unlimited texts.
edit: And I'll probably try the whole, calling customer service until I get what I want, plan soon.

No it won't work for a iPhone 3G. The reason this works for the original iPhone is that the only option for the phone is unlimited data. The 200 text messages has no affect on you if you have family messaging unlmited etc. Even if you have unlimited text you can always call back in to get it added back on.
So i tried to do the trick with an Iphone 2G, I checked online to verify and i think it went fine. Also online it gives me an option to change my Iphone Data plan to the Smartphone Bundles (1. SmartPhone Personal Unlimited Data with 1500 Message for $39.99 2.SmartPhone Personal Unlimited Data with 200 Messages for $35.00 3. Smartphone Personal Unlimited Data for $30)
Should i keep the Iphone Data plan or change it to the SmartPhone Personal plans?

Option 3 is a current unlimited smart phone data plan for the device, its thinking you had it and changed devices use this option so that way the data plan will work correctly for the device. You'll still have $30 unlimited data aswell.
If you are getting the option for smartphone personal unlimited that is the correct data plan for the atrix. iPhone plan doesn't support 4G as far as I know, if that ever happens.
This trick is more common for iPhone 4 users, where once they plug the sim back into the iPhone 4 the system automatically detects it is not a 2G device within a few hours and auto upgrades them to the $30/month iPhone data plan with a text messages alerting the customer. Chances are you will not be able to stay on the $20/month plan so I'd switch before AT&T realizes you are using a 2G iPhone data plan on an Atrix.
I should be good if i change it to the SmartPhone Personal Unlimited Data with 1500Message for $39.99 right?
Yes, It's still a smartphone unlimited data plan!
it's giving me this error when i try to process it.
What should i do now? call customer service?

You are never limited to 200 texts even on the original $20 iphone plan. You can still add a text plan on top of it. It just uses your 200 and then starts using whatever else you have on plan.
But when you move to the $30 plan you lose the texts anyway.

Is anyone using ATT's prepaid gophone $50 unlimited featurephone plan?
If so what type of 3g data speeds are you seeing?
I want to buy an unlocked phone and put it on this plan, but I have read ATT throttles their prepaid plans to 0.20 Mbps.
Thats barely 3G at all =\
But sorry, can't really help you there. I can say its an awful thing to do to their customers though. It seems like there aren't any telcos in America that actually give a toss about their prepaid customers, which is a bit of a shame.
Re: At&T gophone
Hi! I got a $45 GoPhone Plan from AT&T that has everything unlimited including and unlimited data plan. First 1,5 GB they promise " 1.5GB high-speed data (up to 3G for basic and messaging phones); thereafter unlimited data usage at reduced speeds up to 128Kbps " (AT&T).
However I have not had a chance to use my phone Internet outside and only today I decided to check smth. and was waiting for ages when a page was downloading. Then, when I came back home I downloaded "Ookla speed test" from Google Play and was shocked to learn that my data speed was 0.20 mbps !!! Next what I did, I went to Settings, More, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names and saw the following two options " ATT-wap.cingular and H2O Wireless-att.mvno. My option is ATT-wap.cingular as another option does not work with my data plan. My conclusion that ATT gophone uses that old prepaid data from Cingular. Back to 200+ I remember this Cingular was a pretty bad provider servicing people with bad credit.
Now I am going to move back to T-Mobile.
Regards,
Andy.
Okay, locally there are a few prepaid plans that I'm considering to use an iphone 4 or 4s on. They are prepaid though never have used prepaid before.
From my research I know you can use the iphone 4 or 4s on straight talk from walmart
$40 for unlimited talk/text and data (most users report 2gb plus or minus cap and if you go over your service will be terminated.
local company selling Sky view wireless?? Never heard of them before but apparently you can go either cdma or gsm on this.
(Att)gsm version: $60 unlimited talk/text plus 2gb data thats it
CDMA: $50 unlimited everything, apparently no cap on data can use Iphone 4s from sprint on this.
Looking for feedback on people who have tried a prepaid service, tried skyview or straight talk. Currently using an iphone 4 unlocked on local gsm carrier recieving only 2g speeds May switch back to android and get a 4g phone. Note that I only pay $55 month for 500 min and unlimited text/data, no contract month to month! Typically a 5gb data cap then drop down to 2g speeds. Thanks for input
I figured out my wife uses about 100-300MB of cell data (when not on WiFi) a month and we're paying $46 for the Straight Talk unlimited everything plan.
I can save almost $20 a month switching to H20's $30 unlimited talk & text plan with 500MB of data. It uses the same AT&T towers so I figured the signal would be the same but I wanted to get some raw input from current or previous H20 owners. How are speeds, service, do they throttle voice/data at all, etc.?
You hear the horror stories about people complaining about Straight Talk, H20, Cricket, etc. but honestly it's usually people who use a billion GB a month of data and wonder why they get cut off.
Let me know guys. H20 or no?
Edit: not sure if this belongs here but I couldn't find a service provider discussion category.
I have cricket for 50 bucks a month I get 10 GB of data and they say that its not fast but I'm using a nexus 4 and is fast for anything I need it for . for 35 a month you can get unlimited everything but 1 GB of data at full speed and then its at edge I would say that's better then h2o but that's just me

I have it narrowed down to Cricket, Red pocket, and H20. The H20 is really tempting because it would be less than $30 and the 500MB data limit should be plenty.
How are your HSPA+ speeds with Cricket? Did you port your number to them and if so, was it a painful process?
Its pretty fast and the LTE its awesome !! And yes I have port it my number from Verizon to cricket and I had no problem doing it !!! I'm very please with them so far !
I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan from Verizon. I have the 450 minute & 1K Message & $39.99 data plan for a total of $81.98. I've never once gone over my minutes in years so more than 450 isn't required.
The new unlimited everything plan is $85 and this includes Mobile Hot Spot (Needed now that FoxFi doesn't work on Nougat).
Has anyone made this switch? Is it as good of a deal as it seems? I wonder if this new plan is throttled or if it's the same as what I have now.
It's very much throttled unfortunately. In the fine print it says your internet speed will be de-prioritized after 22GB (meaning you'll be queued after other non-unlimited users), and the hotspot will only run on 3G which is basically worthless compared to 4G or WiFi.
If you are gonna switch, consider selling your plan on eBay, they're going for $1500-$1800 bucks. I'm never gonna get rid of mine.

Speeds should be the same, throttling may happen if you "use over 22GB and are in a heavily congested area."
Hotspot should also be the same but it also applies to throttling at 22GB if it is congested.
Id go to Verizon and ask them what costs would be and if you'd save money by switching to the new plan.
You get 10gb of hotspot at 4G speeds then downgraded to 3G speeds (some users reported not getting downgraded to 3G or seeing differences after 10gb). I made the switch and have yet to notice any differences. I normally end up around 20-30gb used a month.
Also you don't get throttled you get de-prioritized in congested area, meaning someone would connect to the tower before you if over 22gb. And who know what is consider a "congested" area.
verizon unlimited plan, do you guys think this will be around come october? that is when my contracts are up on my to UL old plans....

Bummed about FoxFi, and although it's not ideal tethering still works with grandfathered UDP. Check this out: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/help/tethering-nougat-t3568501
