I bought a Cradle for my TyTn II from Brando Web site. they are located in Hong Kong. I have been dealing with them since 2000.
they usually provide good service.
However this charger did not work, AC or USB part. I emailed them and they were kind to send me a replacement in 1 week.
Again still not charging or connecting to my computer. I skipped the cradle and tried the USB cable only still not working.
I emailed them back and they want me to ship both units back to them. I understand that there is a problem with certain connections charging or connecting with Kaiser an I tried to tell them that; I don't think they believe me.
Do Not Order this Cradle since it will not work !!

Stupid question, but does your Kaiser connect to your computer with ANY USB cable? I'm using a cradle (from Talkietech.com) which looks identical to that one with no problems at all. Works with both a USB connection (though I re-used an existing cable) and just with the wall power plug.
If the provided USB cable isn't working, try one which you know works....

It's not only the USB cable but also the charger included.
any other USB cable works on my computer though.
Brando contacted me again yesterday they will send me a third unit. I will post once I get the third unit.

Also returned one of these for same reason
I returned one for replacement because the led lamp was blinking like crazy. The replacement connects to my usb alright but I have not done any extensive testing of the charging performance.
Inserting the phone is also fibbly because the slot is so wide, you need to take aim and align phone before inserting. This is a real bother. Do not buy it
I bought a Boxwave cradle for a 8525 and it's light blinked and failed within hours, I returned it.

I think all these cradles (Kigidi, mobile planet, Brando) are all from the original manufacturer. They do work, but not out of the box. You have to shift the battery around left to right while inserting them to have the contacts line up properly. Cheap quality.
I bought a cradle that looks exactly like that one off eBay. But it came with a second battery for Brando's price for just the cradle alone. I've been using mine for a little over a month, and am very happy with it. The USB cable only serves for charging and connecting to a pc. To charge the second battery in the charger 'tray', the AC power adapter must be plugged in as well.
Mine also has the tricky alignment issue when inserting the kaiser, but I'm used to it. Also because of the position of the kaiser's stylus, there's no access when cradled, so I rigged a mount on the side of the cradle for a spare stylus.
Hands down the best thing about my cradle is the charger tray and second battery. It's so nice to have a fully charged battery available at any time for a quick swap. The battery that was included is only 1300 mAh, opposed to the stock 1350 mAh battery, but it fits perfectly, and I I don't find the 50 mAh difference noticeable. And considering the $24 price tag fI paid for battery and dock, it seems a steal. At this point there's no way I'm going to shell out $50 for the 1650 mAh batteries now available, but If I din't have the dock and second battery I probably would have.

This is unrelated to the topic, but I was going to order from Brando.com and was wondering how long the shipping took. It says 7-20 business days, and I was hoping it would be on the shorter end of that. (shipping to PA)
Almost every charger didnt work with my TyTn II (after I burnt up mine original one on UPS). I just went to market, looked for highest wattage supplying adapter and it was LG's 5.2Volt 5W adapter. And it recharges my TyTn II like a charm. There is something bad with recharging TyTn II.
The old motorola charger and such going-around-boozo's worked with my Vox and Excalibur but not this beast.

i have had one of these for over 2 years. its on my desk at work. the original mains adapter packed up a long time ago and i have an old tandy one attached now. does have the random blinking lights with phone and spare battery connected, but it works.
as said before, cheap design but very handy to charge phone and battery together.
just have to be a bit lucky when you buy i guess.
despite title, i would say buy.
@dark_prince: could be the charging socket in the phone is wearing and needs bit more power to kick it in. have you tried to clean inside socket with compressed air and contact cleaner, might help.
but maybe we just have to accept that our phones are really old now and dont work as well as they used to (i know the feeling)

Induction charging has the same charging speed as plugging it into a wall outlet. Very fast!
Sidenote:
I tried using a multimeter with the 3 contacts located under the battery and could not get it to register anything (with and without the charger plugged in). I then tried shooting 5v through it using 6 different combination (2 plugs for 3 contacts) and still couldn't get anything. If anyone knows a way to use these 3 contacts for charging please leave feedback. Also if anyone can find a minature microusb male connection that'd be great.

The 2400 mAh is a bit too bulky for me, though the extended uptime must be awesome. I'd even consider something similar, were it not that you're using the microusb to charge. If only you could connect it straight to the battery, would be so much more convenient. It'd still work in for instance car kits and attached to a pc.

You can't plug in directly to the battery since the battery doesn't have a balancer board on it and it would explode if it were to be overcharged without one.

I got the decal in the automotive section of Walmart. It came with 2 big/4small stickers for 7usd
UPDATE: Made the microusb head smaller! Letting liquid electrical tape dry then I'll post pics.
this is a really nice mod. what about the possiblly of going via the nav panel connectors instead of micro usb. this would as far as i know leave the usb port free and also not have the disadvantage of having a usb connector attached which can be easily damged.
Personalyu i wouldnt do this mod as i use my phone to tether a hell of a lot so it seems pointless to me, but being able to just sit your phone down and have it charge is awesome.

I tired the navpanel connections with no success. If anyone has a multimeter please try to do it to theirs (with charger plugged in).
that is really odd....only think i can think of is manye theres something that needs to happen with the middle pin.

This car kit is in two versions: like this on 1st photo - use other battery cover which use this "mysterious" pins to run NaviPanel and charging battery and 2nd version with charging via microUSB port.

This "odd" middle pin you can find in every phone battery too. If you depart any battery you can find there a little electronic circuit.
I think, that this pin is used to metering battery charge, but i can be wrong - im not advanced in electornics.
I'm well aware of the existance of these products but cannot figure out what the three contacts below the batteries are.
Maybe some users having one. In that case he/she can make photos of all connectors or better - check it with multimeter which connector is +, - and this middle one.
Maybe some service manuals can tell something more abt this. I searched for it and i did'nt find nothing useful.

I also did a search on google and xda but with no luck. I don't think it inputs 5v into the machine since I did shoot 5v into the 3 connectors using different combination.
Hi all,
The contact closest to the center of the phone (looking along the longest axis of the phone) is the +5V, the one furthest from the +5V is the ground, and there's a small voltage on the center contact, positive to ground. These +5V voltage shows up (on my phone) only when the mini-USB charger is plugged in.
I've got the +5V terminal of the Pre plate attached to the +5V contact on the phone, and the other one attached to the GND contact. Inductive charging works at 341ma (as measure by the hardware and read by BattClock) at maximum, which is probably not coincidentally also the limit set on USB charging, at least from my laptop.
I tried hooking the Touchstone up to a Apple ~1" cubed charger, didn't get any charge. I haven't read the USB power specifications, but according to the people at the Palm forums you have to have a USB spec power-capable charger to initialize the Touchstone, and the USB ICs signal this by connecting the two data lines. This can be approximated by clipping a USB cable and twisting the data lines together on the Touchstone side of the cable. This allowed the Apple charger to power the Touchstone.
The HTC stock charger works fine, as does an 800ma Verizon charger I had laying around. I tried hooking the Touchstone up to both a [email protected] switching charger and a 5V 8A supply, the Touchstone still charged at 341ma. I'm guessing this is software, firmware or hardware limited, just like the computer USB connection. I would speculate that if you shorted the middle pin to the ground pin, it might remove this restriction. Or fry your phone, I didn't try it.
There's a guy on the Pre forums who got the Touchstone to consume about 1.02A (http://forums.precentral.net/palm-p...b-adapters-touchstone-dock-2.html#post2020491) so the thing can, apparently transfer some power. I don't know how long it would last at those wattages, but I'm going to read a bit on the USB power spec and see if the 341ma limit can be lifted.
It's kind of nice to use the internal connector, because it leaves the microUSB port open. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. With the relevant portion of the Pre cover stuck to the back of my phone, there are no wires out of the chassis and the added part doesn't add any considerable bulk to the phone. It protrudes less than the camera.
Anyways, hope this isn't a thread-jack or too long, but I figured it might help anyone that's going to take the time to do this.

I did. I basically cut out a square from the HD2 back large enough to hold the coiled length of wire that is needed to allow the back to be removed and articulated. Then I used Super Glue to fix the section of the Pre back containing the inductive coil and circuitry to the HD2 back.
If you're trying to maintain your warranty I might suggest DigiKey part number 478-4687-1-ND, it's from the AVX "MOBO Spring Contact Interconnect Solutions" catalog under battery connectors (I can send you a .pdf copy of the catalog, it's too big to upload to forum). This is a 3mm pitch connector that should mate well with the internal connector - but - I don't have calipers so I would measure before ordering. I just soldered the wires to my HD2.
I'll post some pictures soonish.
And yeah, high five for sure. Thanks for pioneering this. My last phone was retired when the power connector became flaky, so it's nice not to have to worry about the contact wearing out.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. Two pictures, the first is the terminal with the wires soldered in, the second shows how I got the cables from the Palm coil/board through the cover. The terminals as you look along the longest axis of the phone with the microUSB plug closest to you are GND, something, and +5v.
So from left to right: 1 GND / 2 ? / 3 +5v.
Does the Desire Z have any contacts for charging & data. Looking at the pictures it seems that the usb connection is on the side which is a bit awkward in a car holder arrangement.
It would be great to drop it into a cradle (car or desk) without having to fiddle about plugging bits in, but it seems that decent manufacturer's accessories are a thing of the past..?
With the navigation a prominent feature, it really would make sense to have a proper accessory to mount the phone correctly.
I really would like to know this as well. I also want to know if you can route audio through micro-usb port. It works out really good in my G1 right now, I only have to plug in 1 cord for both audio and charging. I would hate to have to plug in 2 cords, micro-usb for charging and 3.5mm for audio, especially since they are on different sides of the phone.
I have the nexus one stand and its amazing. I hope there is some sort of dock. I hate trying to plug it in.
This is my concern - I don't think the regular Desire has any docking contacts (not certain on this though)

I'm buying hte HTC desire Z as soon as it's available from bell in Canada (will unlock it and use it on Fido) but I already ordered the proclip mount for it (the one with car cigarette lighter plug charger) - it supports the phone both vertically and horizontally with or without the keyboard exposed (slide in from the side into the usb plug for charging). see proclipusa dot com and look for the desire z

took a bit to get used to the side slide-in (due to usb on the side instead of on the bottom) but it really works great - got the one with cigarette lighter charger - this way I can use navigation without draining the battery

It makes sense having the usb on the side of the phone on slider designs. With a bottom mounted usb connector the usb cable gets in the way of your hand when charging the phone when you're typing on the keyboard.

Hey guys - I've been dealing with a Tab charging issue for a few days, and finally solved it... but I thought I'd post the problem and solution here in case it can save someone else a load of frustration if they run into the same problem.
From what I've read, we know that the Tab only draws .5A power from a USB socket, but that it draws ~2A from the wall, and that it knows the difference by testing for a short on the TX/RX USB data wires. (Correct me if I'm wrong on the details, but that's the general impression I've gotten.) We also know that the iPhone/iPad/iPod uses a pair of resistors instead (per the USB spec) to determine the current-delivery capability of the source. (I'm no EE, so I'm a little fuzzy on how that works from a technical perspective.)
So to set the stage: I had brought the USB cable for my Tab with me, but had neglected to grab the USB->outlet adapter for the mains. Similarly, a friend who was on vacation with us had forgotten the charging cable for his iPhone. Thinking I was killing two birds with one stone, I bought an aftermarket USB charging cable for the iPhone which had a separate USB->outlet adapter. His iPhone charged swimmingly, and when I charged my Tab overnight (screen off, starting at ~89% charge) using my cable and the aftermarket adapter, it worked flawlessly. No problem, great solution, or so it seemed...
...until I got home. Suddenly, my Tab wouldn't do more than a trickle charge - the same charge it gets when connected to the USB port on my laptop. (I could tell this was the case because of the small red 'x' next to the charging symbol in the battery icon - which I hadn't noticed while on vacation.) A 2.5-hour car trip using Navigator (screen on the whole time), even with the car charger connected, killed the battery completely. No matter what I did - shutting down apps, rebooting the device, resetting every option I could find - I could not get a fast charge to happen. Even leaving the device plugged in overnight resulted in *less* charge than what I started with if I didn't turn the screen off. I called T-mobile, talked to Samsung tech support twice... and all they could offer was to have me send the Tab back for replacement.
I was at a loss. I nearly did a hard reset in frustration, thinking I had screwed something up royally.
Then I saw the resistors in the pictures in this post:

and something clicked. I had been assuming that the *cables* were the difference between the iPhone and Tab chargers... but there isn't enough room for resistors in the cables! (Well technically, there is, but regardless...) The resistors must live somewhere else... and, I reasoned, that somewhere must be inside the USB->outlet adapter. So I pulled out the 'proper' Samsung adapter, plugged in the Tab, and voilà... a perfect fast charge.
So this is why the Tab won't charge with an iPod (or Sony-Ericsson, as it turns out) mains USB adapter OR USB-port car charger: the circuitry to let the device know it's capable of a full 2A delivery doesn't live in the Samsung cables; it's only present in the adapter. If that's not there, the device thinks it's connected via USB (and will, in fact, say "USB Connected" every time the charger is plugged in) and won't charge more than a trickle.
So that's my story, and hopefully it can save someone else some pain and frustration. Thanks for giving me the floor.

I've recently seen (somewhere) a usb pigtail cable that shorts the pins to make the tab (or any other usb chargable phone) think it's hooked up to a wall charger, rather than a trickle charging usb port.... I need to find that again and just order a few to have in my various cable bags.
If you do find it again, please post it here. Definitely something I'd like in my bag of tricks as well.
Just as an FYI, the 2A charger that came with my Nook Color charges the Tab just fine from mains, even indicates charging. Makes sense, since both devices have a 4000mAH battery.
It's also a nicer unit for travel, it's nicely rounded, the prongs fold into the body of the charger, and you can pick it up from Barnes and Nobles stores just about anywhere in the US. Still doesn't solve the Tab cable issue though.

I'm planning on hacking apart a spare Tab cable so that it goes to a female microUSB; no more multiple cable types then. The stock Tab cable doesn't appear to have more than 6 pins, of which I'm sure a few are grounds.

A 12V inverter, attached to the standard wall charger. :/
I bought the Duragadget 12V->USB charger, since it was advertised specifically as a 2A charger for the Galaxy Tab, but it DOES NOT work as advertised (the Tab treats it like a any other low-current USB port, and even offers to mount mass storage, heh).
Using the inverter and the wall charger worked just fine, though it was a bit clunky and unstable (on mine, the prongs aren't tightly gripped, so it bends out of place easily).
Does anyone know if there are any USB->12v adapters that have the right circuitry for the Samsung? For that matter, do any other devices use the same amperage detection setup the Tab does? It would be good to know what components are cross-compatible.

I'd been contemplating giving the Duragadget charger with integrated cable a try, but having been burned once by Duragadget, I'm a bit hesitant to do so.

OMG...I bought a charger cable from amazon SOLD BY AMAZON marketed as OEM samsung charger and I got the same one in the deal extreme page. WTF...paid $12 for it too.

I bought the Duragadget 12V->USB charger, since it was advertised specifically as a 2A charger for the Galaxy Tab, but it DOES NOT work as advertised (the Tab treats it like a any other low-current USB port, and even offers to mount mass storage, heh).
Using the inverter and the wall charger worked just fine, though it was a bit clunky and unstable (on mine, the prongs aren't tightly gripped, so it bends out of place easily).
I'd been contemplating giving the Duragadget charger with integrated cable a try, but having been burned once by Duragadget, I'm a bit hesitant to do so.

yes, the verizon store has a 12v charger for the galaxy tab, but that was the only place I was able to find one... other than online.

I've tried other high current (2.0+ amp) chargers. Some designed for the ipad and some not, and I always get the trickle charge icon and it's treated as a computer USB connection (Mass storage device options, etc).
How much was the Verizon charger?

Google the gobatt 2 charger. It comes with a usb adapter that charges the tab on any charger.

Thanks for the tip. I can't find much information about the Scosche GoBatt 2 charger, or the adapter that comes with it. Today I tried other Scosche chargers, including their iPad charger, and it didn't seem to work.
Can you give some more details on the adapter that comes with the GoBatt 2?

Got this travel adapter by ZipKord with 2 - 1 amp outlets. Works with the OEM cord and also the Gomadic tip made for the Galaxy Tab. Just need to be careful it's not the older version that only has the lower power outlets. Cheapest I could find was $13+, so if it's less, it's the lower power. With the Gomadic tip and reractable cord, it says it's charging.

Hey guys - I've been dealing with a Tab charging issue for a few days, and finally solved it... but I thought I'd post the problem and solution here in case it can save someone else a load of frustration if they run into the same problem.
From what I've read, we know that the Tab only draws .5A power from a USB socket, but that it draws ~2A from the wall, and that it knows the difference by testing for a short on the TX/RX USB data wires. (Correct me if I'm wrong on the details, but that's the general impression I've gotten.) We also know that the iPhone/iPad/iPod uses a pair of resistors instead (per the USB spec) to determine the current-delivery capability of the source. (I'm no EE, so I'm a little fuzzy on how that works from a technical perspective.)
So to set the stage: I had brought the USB cable for my Tab with me, but had neglected to grab the USB->outlet adapter for the mains. Similarly, a friend who was on vacation with us had forgotten the charging cable for his iPhone. Thinking I was killing two birds with one stone, I bought an aftermarket USB charging cable for the iPhone which had a separate USB->outlet adapter. His iPhone charged swimmingly, and when I charged my Tab overnight (screen off, starting at ~89% charge) using my cable and the aftermarket adapter, it worked flawlessly. No problem, great solution, or so it seemed...
...until I got home. Suddenly, my Tab wouldn't do more than a trickle charge - the same charge it gets when connected to the USB port on my laptop. (I could tell this was the case because of the small red 'x' next to the charging symbol in the battery icon - which I hadn't noticed while on vacation.) A 2.5-hour car trip using Navigator (screen on the whole time), even with the car charger connected, killed the battery completely. No matter what I did - shutting down apps, rebooting the device, resetting every option I could find - I could not get a fast charge to happen. Even leaving the device plugged in overnight resulted in *less* charge than what I started with if I didn't turn the screen off. I called T-mobile, talked to Samsung tech support twice... and all they could offer was to have me send the Tab back for replacement.
I was at a loss. I nearly did a hard reset in frustration, thinking I had screwed something up royally.
Then I saw the resistors in the pictures in this post:

and something clicked. I had been assuming that the *cables* were the difference between the iPhone and Tab chargers... but there isn't enough room for resistors in the cables! (Well technically, there is, but regardless...) The resistors must live somewhere else... and, I reasoned, that somewhere must be inside the USB->outlet adapter. So I pulled out the 'proper' Samsung adapter, plugged in the Tab, and voilà... a perfect fast charge.
So this is why the Tab won't charge with an iPod (or Sony-Ericsson, as it turns out) mains USB adapter OR USB-port car charger: the circuitry to let the device know it's capable of a full 2A delivery doesn't live in the Samsung cables; it's only present in the adapter. If that's not there, the device thinks it's connected via USB (and will, in fact, say "USB Connected" every time the charger is plugged in) and won't charge more than a trickle.
So that's my story, and hopefully it can save someone else some pain and frustration. Thanks for giving me the floor.

Ok so I got an incredible a while back and my hope and desire(ha) to get my Vogue working again has completely faded. So I'd like to give it away with all the accessories and spare parts that I have accumulated to anyone who wants it, though I'd prefer to give it to who ever would benefit the most especially a developer since they've done so much free work for people like me.
Basically the phone has stopped charging. I got an external charger and both my batteries will take a charge that way. It could be that the USB port is blown because I also can't see it plugged in to a PC to try to flash back to WinMo. I tried flashing from an SD card but didn't have any luck.

So it is not bricked, but would be a pain to have to swap batteries from the charger all the time to use. It may be that someone would just want it for spare parts anyway or just to use the accessories, which I will list here:
