What do you guys think of the new Chinese phone that supports USA carriers?
You can view the specs here:
http://en.oppo.com/product/find5/
http://www.oppousa.com/
It's about the size of the Droid DNA, but better. I'm actually thinking of getting this. Doesn't have SD Card but has 16GB and 32GB Version! Great price, and a premium product.
Bad thing is......you have to buy it via western union and/or wire transfer. They do accept Paypal over $300. They sent me this:
For avoid credit card fraud,we don't accept payments for product 300$ or more by Paypal or by credit cards. payments for product 300$ or more must be paid by bank transfer or Western Union MoneyGram. For more information, please visit : http://www.fastcardtech.com/article-9-Payment+Methods.html

Yeah it does! But the renders of this makes the phone looks huge when in reality its about the size of the DNA. I can't wait till Next Wednesday when they talk about it at one of the Beijing events.

Also as far as I checked fastcardtech.com is a FRAUD. I would not recommend anyone to use them. It's better to wait for a decent US release and find a relative in Sales TAX Free state OR use some well known taobao middlemen.
looks good on the paper
Looks good on the paper. 1080p for a phone is an overkill if you ask me with today's battery technology. I bet this phone has major draws.
I would consider it if the power button were on the side, I almost never use two hands with my phone and this would annoy me to no end.

The only thing which bothers me, as a previous Tab 7.7 owner, the lack of software support, I may even sacrifice some hardware stuff for better official or xda community support potential. As far as I see it now the DNA, a major brand product, is nowhere near the Nexus devices in all the development and ROM hacking fuss. Oppo is moving to the global market, thus the good software support is implied but yet to be confirmed.
Actually, the size of the OPPO Find 5 is nowhere near the gargantuan HTC DNA despite sporting the same size screen thanks to an edge-to-edge screen and minimal wasted space at the top and bottom:
HTC DNA: 141 x 70.5 x 9.7 mm (5.55 x 2.78 x 0.38 in)
Oppo Find 5: 129 x 65 x 6.9 mm (5.08 x 2.56 x 0.27 in) <---smaller than HTC One S
The key here is the middle number, at 65 mm wide, it will be VERY easy to do one handed operations. This is a huge HUGE attraction for me as I'm sick of all these phlabets/phlaptops that HTC, Samsung, LG, and others are producing. Increasing screen size is one thing, but the phones are getting so enormous that it becomes very uncomfortable to use. It's ridiculous.

2500 MaH on a IPS display....it's really on how much you use your phone, because IPS is good on battery consumption, I think.

Just rechecked photo's, and well I don't find it a big deal. I've used the HD2, LG G2x, and HTC Sensation so if I get this phone it wouldn't be a big change.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Since this phone is supporting US Carriers with a breeze, will there be XDA Dev willing to work on this phone? That would also be a plus when getting this pone.

Whoaahh! Didn't know it was smaller than the OneS! But I knew it was about the size of the DNA. Thanks for doing the conversion!!
The thing I hate, and the LG G2x/O2x did this, was the hardware keys. Why so big? But your right, phones are getting bigger, and bigger is only good for people with big hands. Medium size hands like phones in the range of 4 - 4.7 inches. The DNA did it right by making it longer instead of wider, and I'm glad Oppo is understanding that. Hopefully the S4 and new upcoming phones get it. Keep the big phone size to the Note's.

These specs are for a different phone mate.. it clearly states that it refers to a 4.5 inch phone with 720p screen... The dimensions are still impressive to be sure but nowhere near to what a 5 inch would be if they were able to fit it in just 65mm of width. It would imply a total absence of bezel as in *nil*, I don't think such a tech exists yet, true edge to edge is a decade away I'm afraid. I'd be happy to be proved wrong though...
BTW same applies on the existence of micro SD slot, it probably doesn't have one, at least the company doesn't hint that anywhere (sadly microsd slots seem to go the way of the dodo)...
So to recap, "hold on your horses", it'd probably be a thinner slightly cheaper DNA and given that it is a chinaphone I don't think many would be convinced... it's a good offering to be sure but nothing groundbreaking... again I hope to be proved wrong, if I do I would be the first in line to buy this phone (hate phablet sizes, love big screens and big memories)...
I updated the OP. It does not have SD Card but has 16GB and 32GB version! I am thinking of getting this phone

I'm sure from a development state, this device will be lacking heavily. And anything non pure Google.....goog luck with the manufactures keeping you up to date.
Sounds like a sweet device, but it'd still take my gs3 over this all day long.

Well, well my friend, assuming is not good. If you go to oppo's forum they are very well up to date, and current than GS3. They are pure google with little customization to not run it down. Idk about Samsung but 4.2 on Oppo devices are coming in Mid Jan. ALSO I don't know about when a new version of android is coming about but when it does Oppo will surely have it out in 2-3 months tops.
So from a development state, Samsung lacks it heavily, and Samsung lacks pure google. Good luck waiting years on Samsung getting you updates that takes years to update

My Verizon galaxy s3 is on 4.2 cm.
I've never had a issue having lots of roms top choose from south any Samsung devices I've had.
I'm saying is I'm not sure the oppo week have much of a following here in the states, if it does it will never have the backing that my gs3 does.

This is actually the first Oppo device heading to the United States support T-Mobile, AT&T, and Simple Mobile. It won't get the over rated advertisement like the GS3, but it is definitely a better phone, in my opinion. Official Software updates, better camera, fast, premium product, NFC.
I have nothing against the GS3 besides the width of it, and the material of the phone is plastic. Otherwise its a great phone. But hopefully XDA will have some ROM support on this phone as its coming to the United States.

Yes a nicer material would be nice, but we all seem to use cases made out of the same material to protect our investment.....so no need to waste extra money on finer materials to cover them up. Nice materials such as glass/aluminum are not add strong or resilient to damage.
I also am not bashing the oppo, seems like a nice phone and the more high end devices, we all win. I'm an android guy, I'm not band stuck, however I'm drawn to Samsung's...HTC is also nice, but on big red they haven't brought anything to the table I would rather have than my gs3. That being said if Verizon would have had the one x I'm not sure which way I would have gone......really nice phone!

As, I approach my upgrade time. I am pondering my options... and wondering what others are thinking.
When I first read about this phone model (the upcoming Incredible 4g), I was not not especially impressed. But with more leaked info, I wonder is this actually my ideal (or very near ideal) phone.
1. It supposedly will have the S4 Krait processor. This is an upgrade over anything currently on Verizon. I didn't realize that it was going to get this processor. If it doesn't have this processor, then I really don't have any interest. I thought the Incredible 4g was just a smaller Rezound. I was wrong. This processor is an improvement over phones like the Rezound and G Nexus.
2. I have not liked the idea of the newer phones eliminating the SD card. This phone will have a SD card slot... plus 8 gigs internal.
3. It will have a removable battery, another thing that myself and many others have not liked about other new models coming out. I have managed to get excellent life out of my stock Dinc1 battery... but I've always been happy to know that there are bigger replacements available if I wanted them... or if the stock battery were to get weak with age.
4. I am torn by the manufacturers making screens bigger and bigger on phones (and with greater and greater numbers of pixels to control and illuminate). Those screens sure look nice... but I'm not crazy about how much power they use. The Incredible 4g has a qHD 4" screen, so it should look nice enough, and not use that much juice (compared to the 720p phones with 4.7" screens). Also importantly to me, it will be comfortable to stick in my pockets. I just don't watch movies or TV shows on my phone. Yeah, I've done it, just to do it. But, I've got more comfortable options... like our couch and plasma TV (or even our computers).
5. Integrated LTE on the chip? 4g speeds... less battery usage than current 4g phones... thaz awesome...
6. 1gig RAM... same as everything else out there...
7. Nice enough camera (same as ONE series)... Beats (meh whatever)... etc...
8. I do play games, to kill time on my phone, but I often tend to prefer the casual type puzzle games. High performance gaming isn't especially important to me, but still this phone should be nicely capable of playing most games very well.
I know this phone does not follow the "slim and sexy" trend that is happening in phone fashion. I just wonder if I am the only weirdo "anti-fashion" person out there. Plus it looks to be reasonably priced. Anybody else think this phone looks preferable than the other new options coming?
And most importantly... anybody think this phone will get good developer support? Just wondering how others view this phone...
I also approach my upgrade time (I think its in June) and as it approaches I'm paying more attention to what's out there. This new incredible seems to hit all the right spots. The only thing I wish it had wad a 720p screen. Qhd certainly isn't a deal breaker though.
I'm eagerly awaiting the announcement of the Incredible 4G. However I'm also waiting to see what the Galaxy S3 has to offer. I may end up waiting a little longer for that. I dont mind morw waiting as I love my incredible and its simply the best phone I've ever owned.
If my incredible broke today and I was offered an early upgrade id probably opt for a Razr Maxx.

not exactly. early upgrade is an incentive.
verizon emailed me an early upgrade offer for 50 bucks off any new phone last week...
and today snail mailed me an offer for 100 dollars off.
they just want you contracting another 2 years... thats where the real money is at.
My upgrade was up the first of April, and I watched it go by. Honestly, for what I really do with the phone it just didn't make sense to drop the coin on something new that would meet or exceed some of my expectations but let me down in others.
One of the biggest drawbacks to most of these phones coming out (IMO....) is the size of em. Damn, if I wanted an Ipad, I'd buy the dang thing.... These new phones look beautiful but having to wear a hubcap around my waist because it won't fit in my pockets anymore, I just don't dig.
I have been so pleased with the first gen INC that when I heard the INC 4g was coming out, and the screen size, man, I said that's the ticket, faster, and still good size, removable batt, sd card, I'm in, I'm all in......
You raise a very good argument on the OP. The only thing I would need is a guarantee that Devs will get CM9 running on it. My Dinc right now is perfect with CM9.
Not sure how many Inc devs can or will get the Inc 4g due to all getting the rezound. And there's no guarantee of anything before its done. Most likely it will get cm9 but don't quote me on that.
And ics, while OK on the Inc is far from perfect. Camcorder and video don't work 100% on cm9. One of the reasons I got the nexus is to have the best initial support with ICS working smooth without any complex porting.

I'm glad to see some people with something positive to say about this phone. There has been a lot of bad reaction out there for what ever reason. I suspect its people just not understanding about the processor. I've got an upgrade on the 25th, and this thing is supposed to hit the 26th. I'm pretty excited.
I'll probably use it the first month pretty much stock, and then start branching out as things become available. Also looking forward to CM9. I may keep a recovery around to play with and one for actual use with 100% function. If it doesn't come with a 32 gb class 10 sd card, that will be my first upgrade to it. Hoping they pack a nice battery in it.
I think as a OneS variant, there won't be too much difficulty finding devs to take interest.

Well we have 4 days til launch, almost 3, and we've received no word of demo units coming in. So unless they come in tomorrow, I'm doubting that April 26th launch. Perhaps that's when the demo units are coming in? I believe the leaked documents did say "Device workshop" on April 26th.(Although I'm not all too sure what that is). It definitely should be coming within the next two weeks if it misses that release date though.
This phone will certainly be the perfect phone for me when it comes out, if the rumored specs are true. Really hoping this phone gets good dev support too.
We've been discussing the Incredible 4G for a while over in this thread, and I'll repeat my overall opinion here: When this phone comes out it will be hands-down the best phone available on Verizon. All of the websites out there that call it mid-range are out of their minds.
Here are some thoughts I have on some of the OP's points:

The processor is not the only improvement over the Rezound... there are so many more. The only reason people compare this phone to the Rezound is the aesthetic similarity. That's really the only thing these two phones have in common.

That is likely, but not a given. Early reports were able to 100% confirm some things like "yes, it has a microSD slot." Those reports didn't come right out and say that the battery is removable though. But, they did say that the backplates are interchangeable, which is a good indication that we'll have battery access

It certainly wont be sexy... it's an Incredible. Have you seen these things?
That said, it will be slim and light. Probably not as much as the One S (because this one needs LTE and the One S probably has a little more room to stuff things because of the bigger screen), but the initial reports are that it is very thin and light.

On Verizon, absolutely. There is nothing better. That is, as long as you are cool with the smaller screen size
The only reason not to get it is the screen size... A lot of people have been begging for a high-end 4" phone, and now they finally have one. That said, some people just "need" those mammoth 4.5+" screens. If you're one of the latter, then this phone is probably not the best bet.
For everyone else though, this will be the best phone you can get when it comes out... and the price is looking like it will cost less than the original incredible did at release, which is a bonus

It has to. There's no way they would release it without the S4 (at least, not for more than like 50 bucks)
Sidenote: I'm a bit bummed by the price. I never really believed the "$100 or $150" rumors, but I was hoping that Verizon would stop the $299 madness and go back to $199 that used to be the standard (and is becoming the standard again on other carriers... look at the new Evo for example)
Althought... the site was never really intended to go live... so maybe they just copied a template and hadn't actually finished with it... i.e. hadn't fixed the price yet.

Oh, lol. Yea, I don't think even the Motoroloas actually put "Droid" on the device.
Thanks for the additional info demarcmj. I certainly am not any authority on this phone. If anything I said was untrue, it was unintentional. Mostly I was expressing my opinions about the phone specs, just for myself, and they way I would use it.
I'm glad you shared your thoughts and could bring better detailed info.
For example: The comment about the "nice enough" camera was a little tongue in cheek. It is an excellent camera, for a phone camera. I've got other gear for taking pictures. For me, the camera on my Dinc1 is "nice enough". I really only use it for scanning QR codes.
I'm pretty bummed about the $299 price tag, too. The One X is on ATT for $199.
The Incredible 4g (with its non-HD screen) is not going to sell many units at $299. That is craziness, Verizon.

I personally think it looks great. The small little features like wireless charging, a buzz if missed calls sound genius. Most people are overlooking these and looking straight at the stats. It's a great phone.
Sent from my Galaxy S running Slim ICS 3.5 and Midnight kernel from my XDA Premium app.
great features and specs, but i think it is totally hideous. It got killed by the home button being odly shaped and the corners start to round before the top of the screen. Just my opinion though, its stilla nice phone
I like the Smart Stay, Android 4.0.4 and ICS-y TouchWiz (now we know why SGS2 get Gingerbread-y TouchWiz).
It isn't near as bad as many people are making it seem. It's just because of how big of a deal Samsung made it that makes it more of a let down. If this was just announced normally at an event like MWC then people wouldn't be having that big of an issue. It's just how it got over hyped with Samsung sending it out to be tested in secret boxes, no leaks for anything at all, it's own big press conference, etc. It was sickening reading in the One X section with all their biased opinions on a phone they've never even seen or tried first person. Give it a chance.

Really, nice specs but it's hideous.
I gotta admit, It's a bit of a letdown. It looks a bit goofy but I have the feeling that a proper first hand hands on will turn my opinion around again, they are going for function over form with this one I guess. Also It has a pentile screen but seeing from videos and hearing description of reviewers is not enough to judge this category. Overall, I think the hate from many place will die down once it is released just like iPhone 4S, people are shouting, mocking, and taunting because it's only an iteration but suddenly no one is hating it anymore.

That's because no-one cares for the iPhone. They get what Apple gives them. Period. Android users do have a choice and over-hyped products that look like something blue and ugly crawled from the sea, made sex with a pebble and then gave birth to this thing, rarely stand a chance. It will still sell but won't be the success S2 was.
I really thought Samsung would put something nice on the table this time. Now I know why they didn't show it on MWC. Side by side with the HOX it would be a media disaster for them.
And all the fun we have with it at the HOX forum, is because the Samsung fanboys who never owned a HOX were saying for the past month "S3 will blow it out of the water" and now we saw what they meant. Noone wants to be in the same ocean with something as ugly as this thing. In a year and a half *maybe* there will be some apps that will run slightly better on the S3, but it will still be as ugly as it is today with the same ugly pentile screen.

The New Samsung GALAXY SIII A GALAXY Unpacked 2012 Video LiveStream

Galaxy S III vs. HTC One X
I wanna take this time to give a fair comparison of the Galaxy S III to HTC's flagship One X. Let me start by saying I am not a fanboy for any brand. I like any device that works, and works well. I choose my devices based on build quality, specs, and features. Software is never a dealbreaker for me, as I usually prefer to load custom ROM's (CM/AOSP mostly). That said, I must say I am quite impressed with the Galaxy S III so far.
In my own honest opinion (and without starting any fights), I felt like the original Galaxy S and even the GS2 were way overhyped. Yes, I agree that they are good devices, but I feel like they didn't really scream out "next gen" when they launched. With the specs on paper and even in real world benchmarks, the first 2 generations only just gave their Nexus counterparts a run for their money. At first glance, it looks like the GS3 is finally going to push the bar to the next level. Of course, HTC also has it's high-end contenders, and this time around it happens to be the One X.
Now, I am in the market for a new phone, and I was highly considering the One X. With all the hype leading up to the GS3, I thought about the previous two generations, and prematurely decided the third gen would end up like the first two. Well, I stand corrected. I could easily see myself buying a GS3, but I am still undecided. On one hand, I have always loved HTC's build quality, and the One X's features definitely fits my requirements. But on the other hand, the Galaxy S III has a few things HTC missed.
When it comes to raw horsepower, both devices are definitely packing a lot of power, so that leaves other things to consider. While I have yet to actually handle each phone in my own hands, my first impression about build quality would go to HTC's polycarbonate unibody design. I always prefer a body not made of plastic, but then again, the Gorilla Glass 2 on Samsung's flagship does give it an upper hand. So all in all, it's still a tie.
When it comes to the camera, HTC definitely wins here. Sure, both devices are 8MP, but as a photographer, I know that the lens makes all the difference. The HTC One X has a beautiful wide angle lens with f/2.0, and from what I've read, Samsung put more effort into the software, leaving it with just an average lens at best. HTC also spent a lot time perfecting their camera software, so they get bonus points for paying attention to all the small details.
Two other important factors for me are the ability to remove the battery and add an external microSD. Unfortunately, this is where HTC made their mistakes, and Samsung was right there to make it right. These are actually two of the biggest things that are giving me second thoughts about buying the One X, and opting for the GS3 instead.
But then I start thinking about the screen. Quality is more important to me than size, and while Samsung's may be a tenth of an inch bigger, it appears that HTC's Super IPS LCD2 wins here. Not to say Samsung's screen isn't good, but I was a bit surprised to see they forgot the Plus part of their HD Super AMOLED. Maybe they did this to leave some room for improvement when another variant of the GS3 comes out in the next 3-4 months. Who knows...
Other than a few other minor differences that could go either way, one final important feature is the battery itself. We all know smartphones are power hungry, so it goes without saying that Samsung's removable 2100mAh gives it an upper edge. Hopefully, it's enough to keep the phone charged for at least a couple of days. HTC's 1800mAh may also last a couple days, partially thanks to the Tegra 3's fifth power-saving core. But when it comes right down to it, 2100mAh simply sounds better. And did I mention it's removable?
This leaves me stuck with a hard decision to make. I'm sure I'll be happy either way, but in both cases, there will be some sacrifices to make, yet there will always be the satisfaction of having a powerful device nonetheless. You win some, you lose some.
I'm also considering a new tablet as well, so if only the Asus Padfone would come out. That would make this decision even harder!
I wish I had enough money to buy both
Love it
Gonna buy it !
Thats all i have to say!!
Best regards !
Awesome specs, design ain't so good. But for christ sake, what a hell of a specs.
I'd give my someone's left nut to have it

Had the original SGS and was originally holding out for the SGS3, and opted to go the HOX when it came out given the specs and couldn't be bothered waiting for the SGS3, and timing with my contract coming up for renewal.
S-Voice - Interested there's finally competition to Siri, but something I wouldn't use anyway.
Wireless Charging - Slow and a novelty.
Vibrate when pick up phone for notifications - Very neat, but if I'm picking up my phone, 9/10 I'll be looking at it anyway
Eye-focus thing - Very neat, only big feature I would quite like.
Now so glad I didn't wait around for it.

[Q] Just got my Nexus 4 and it doesn't feel worth the price or "Nexus" label
Let's run down this list:
No LTE
720p screen is relatively standard
No hardware keys
Front camera is wimpy
No microSD
No USB Host/OTG out of box
Not easy to replace/disassemble
Poor impact protection (we've all seen the horrors)
Expensive replacement parts (what is it, $90 for the front?)
Average battery
I literally feel I'd be getting more with a One X or S3 for nearly the same price (I did get the phone directly from T-Mobile, which allows for exchange, though it is more expensive). So what if I have official Google support... what else makes this phone as great as people say it is?!? The GNex, and S2 also seem like better choices, if we are specifically discussing the same price point. The more I use it, the more iPhone-y it feels, just running 4.2.2 instead of iOS 7.
In summary: Why do you have this phone and why do you like it?
Dont cry, just sell it.

You did not do your homework before you bought it?
Alright...sorry for my answer, i just hate if people crying here..you knew the Phones Hadware etc. before you got it. I really like the Nexus, it has very good handling and is lightning fast. The 720p Display is perfect, just rember ; everything above 300ppi looks the same for your eyes. I had to decide between the S3 and the N4 but after a while of playing with the S3 of a friend, i didnt even thought about buying the S3 anymore. I hate TouchWiz, its ugly and it's laggin. Maybe you know someone with an s3/OneX where you can test the phone for yourself

I mean that's kind of a given. My Samsung Mesmerize runs 4.2.2 because of CM, when it would otherwise be stuck at 2.3.4.

The phones I listed have the features that a Nexus 4 doesn't. Other than a quad core processor, all I see is advantages on the other phones. The HTC One has better audio quality and camera, the S3 (IMO) has a better screen and is a lot more disassembly-friendly, and includes LTE, an SD card slot, and many more things.

No LTE - Not in my area, plus I get better speeds than cable with HSPA+.
720p screen is relatively standard - And more than sufficient for a 4.7 inch display. Why would you want to waste more battery and GPU pushing more pixels? Especially when you ***** about battery life and screen replacement cost just a few lines down.
No hardware keys - Nexus won't ever have them, but you knew that, right?
Front camera is wimpy - More than enough for it's intended purpose. Why would I want to compress more pixels for a video chat?
No microSD; No USB Host/OTG out of box - Design decision, but you knew that, right? Its a phone, I have no need for these.
Not easy to replace/disassemble - Did you check the iFixit teardown? More serviceable than most phones. I think the build design is very good.
Poor impact protection - The drop tests I saw had it compare favorably to the S3.
Expensive replacement parts (what is it, $90 for the front?) - Yes, due to a fused digitizer/display. Seems about average for both.
Average battery - Check out Qualcomm's Battery Guru.
In addition to my differences with the above assessments, I think the phone looks and feels great, works great, is open and unlocked (I will never be on contract again), and is priced at a point where I won't get sick if I lose it or drop it (which for me really adds to the usability).

I get great battery life. The GPS locks insanely fast. The phone is blazing fast. Dev support is second-to-none. It's gorgeous. It feels amazing in my hand. The screen looks great. I don't have to settle for CM.
Oh, and PA is developed specifically for this device. That means we get the new features first. And the builds aren't ports. They're compiled, fully functioning builds.
I got the new Nexus 7 at Walmart and also picked up the old Nexus in perfect condition from Craigslist for $85. Been spending time working with both side-by-side all morning. My thoughts...
1. The new one seems marginally quicker at some things like swiping between screens in the launcher. That to me is the most noticeable difference, and it's not that big of a change. I am thinking the better graphic acceleration contributes here.
2. I can't tell much difference in the screens. I know there is more resolution, but with my bifocals, I am just fine with the old screen. Saturation on the new screen seems a teeny bit better, but there is also a slight buish tint. I expected to be blown away by the new screen. I'm not.
3. Call me crazy, but I prefer the feel in the hand of the old version. The more rounded edges and the back feel better to me. Can't tell much of a difference in weight, but the new one definitely feels thinner, and the thinness cuts into my palm a bit more. I don't like the thinner bezels at all. And the new one is slightly taller, feels kind of awkwardly shaped.
4. The new tablet takes significantly longer to charge.
5. I couldn't care less about the front camera. Will never use it.
6. Perhaps the deal-killer for me is that the new version has some kind of touchscreen problem. The keyboard gives double-presses, and single touches on buttons (like "accept" in the Play Store) too often requires multiple tries. Anybody else noticing this? Maybe mine is bad?
All-in-all, it looks like the new Nexus 7 has provided a nice opportunity to get the old version cheap for me. After trying both, I don't see a compelling reason to stay with the new one. Just my honest assessment. Your mileage may vary.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
having seen 2 different N7 2013 units already, i'd say the screen is a lottery just like it was with the 1st model. yellow tint, contrast setting and scroll blur will vary on each one. btw i never understood the reviews that go into some major details about the screen, like anandtech for example. don't get me wrong, their reviews are amazing but those screen technicalities are not worth anything seeing how the review unit will be different to any actual unit on the store shelves.

1. Do you play graphics/processor intensive games? The new processor crushes the old one. I don't recommend the upgrade if smoother swiping between screens is all you're looking for.
2. Again, if you are content with the old resolution... stick with that. Clearly, the majority of reviewers and myself personally are in love with the screen. When I use my GS3 now, I cringe.
3. That's great that you like the old thickness. Sounds like an issue with your expectations.... Not the device itself.
4. You have a point here.
5. You should have known this prior to buying the device.... How can you be underwhelmed by a feature you already knew you didn't want...
6. Never had this happen on the two 32 g models I've used.
TL;DR You're doing it wrong. Stop hating on the device because your expectations are off... Doesn't sound like what you need out of a tablet demands a new Nexus 7... you can't blame the tablet for that.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Well the reason it takes longer to charge is the old nexus 7 came with a 2 amp charger and the new one only has a 1.3 amp
I for one LOVE the new screen, if you can't see the difference then your in the minority.
An $85 older Nexus 7 is a great value. Just keep it and return the New Nexus, if you do think it worth the premium to you.
I love everything about the New Nexus 7. It is what I expected from Google/Asus and they delivered. What else do you want them to do at the $229 price point? Google has put in a nice 1080p display, underclocked S600 processor, 2gig of ram, 5ghz wifi and the memory subsystem has been approved over the original. My only real criticism is the lack of SD card slot but that is true for any Google device. This is not the perfect tablet and people have to put their expectations in check.
Can anyone compare another $229 tablet to this one? Even the $400 Note 8 gets beat buy this and I'm a Note 2 owner.
I mean for all that are reading this and don't have one yet the truth is this. Should you upgrade? Hell yes!!!! Now when is the question to you I sold my 16gb gen1 for 170 a week ago came with cases so to spend 40 bucks to get the new one is nothing. Even if its 60 dollars its worth it. Think about how much apple fanboys spend to upgrade every year. The new nexus is better in every way possible.
Now if you happy with the old I understand most people are probably using this for reading stuff so the first one is fine. I just never really liked the first design wise

I still have yet to see the new Nexus 7. I hadn't used my OG Nexus for probably 2 months and, now that I am again, I'm realizing how "good enough" it is. I'm going to have to see the new one to really convince myself to drop $270 on the 32gb.

its a good upgrade, still a bit of stagger here and there. they should of went with the snapdragon 600 instead of the s4.
This gen is deff better then last gen i wasnt really liking how it felt on the first one this one feels and looks alot better

We already know its not just an S4 pro. Basically a binned and under clocked 600

I'm not saying the new one isn't better... Just that it isn't $150 better (to me).

It's underwhelming when you compare it against the high expectations of the first Nexus 7.
The original Nexus 7 made an absolute joke of all the other mfg's 7"-8" tablets at their existing price point. The ONLY reason you'd buy something other than a Nexus 7 was if you wanted micro sd card support - otherwise the specs were no contest. And why should they? Google was working on razor thin margins for the hardware compared to mfgs.
If you go to a box store and look at the new N7, and then look at all the other 7" tablets, everything else is still a joke and it's far from underwhelming. Google stated that they were making a profit on this one, but my guess is that a big part of this is being able to leverage Motorola's buying power/agreements to reduce individual component cost. Best buy is making a 3.5% margin on the new nexus 7 (8-9.4USD). - it barely makes sense to take up the floor space to sell the damn things and I'd wager that most other box retailers are not doing much better.
OT
It'd be genius if someone from BB knew that staples was running the tablet coupon of $30 off and launched early to cause staples to take a loss on their inventory ($~20 per unit).

I can understand that, especially after you mentioned picking up the 2012 Nexus 7 for $85 off Craig's list.
People here are gadget geeks and and spec-mongers, always wanting the latest and greatest (me included). Some of its get a little defensive if someone seen to put down our device of choice.
No I am not underwhelmed overall, but I am by the lack of optimization in the games I care about... The funny thing is the old N7 smokes this devices in both GTA3 and Vice City... go ahead, try and max out the settings, I dare any of you. Now I know this device is significantly more powerful but the bottom line is real world performance and I believe the OP raises a valid point: there isn't a significant difference.
Source: I've owned an N4 since launch (and now an N7.2) and had a friend's OG N7 for a couple weeks when they were out of town.
Yeah maybe the upgrade isn't worth an extra $150 over the 1st gen you just got, but it is still an upgrade and we want the latest and so most people are willing to pay the premium for that.

This should be consolidated into a single "whine" thread instead of cluttering the forum.
Personally my first gen doesn't come close to touching my new one. Everything is so much faster, smoother and instant. Thanks to the extra RAM it doesn't get crippled when running lots of apps or updating. Can't believe anyone could use both devices and not come away thinking the new one is an upgrade and a half.
Oh, and the screen is flipping fantastic, my GS3 takes a second to get used to when switching directly between the two.

450$ for 32GB and Developed editions. Let's hope we get some more devs AND users jumping on the bandwagon at these prices.

Imagine if they had released it at this price. Moto X is a great phone but the early bad will, due to the initial price and spec non-issue, has probably hurt it's overall sales for good. Hope I'm wrong about that :fingers-crossed:
I think the pricing now is what should have been all along. Can't wait to see what they have next.
Sent from my Moto X
Moto X 32GB @ $450 vs. Iphone 5s 32GB @ $750 or even Iphone 5c 32GB @ $650.
Take this along with Nexus 5 pricing and Moto G 16GB @ $200 and it's exceeding clear Google wants to drive very good to excellent mobile phones to commodity pricing and juice the off-contract market. If the illusion of subsidized pricing with 2 year contracts goes away in the US, the love of shinny jewel-like phones might just tarnish a bit (or significantly hurt profit margins).
I think it's awesome google are making great phones at affordable prices... But most go with contracts anyway... Cause it's cheaper up front and cause that's what people are just used too.
Personally I think if you buy an iPhone outright at 750 vs 450 for a Moto x.... You'd be a fool. Lol
Hopefully over time the brain washing that you have to have an iPhone will fade and people will wake up. They may have good hardware and be reliable software wise.. But it's apple. They can't sell apple computers because of their ridiculous limitations... Yet people flock like zombies to their phones... Makes no sense. Lol
In time they'll be where blackberry is in the food chain, I have no doubt.

That's pretty insulting. Zombies? iOS may be what it is, but had you said this back with the iphone 3g, then I'd agree. But we've come a long way since iOS3 and with a bit of JB-magic, you could customize iOS as much as Android. Granted, Android: it's far easier and safer. A lot of stuff on iOS is really user-friendly. It's only with the Moto X that I can decisively recommend Android over iOS to anyone not invested in the iOS ecosystem because what drew people to iOS back then, Google just achieved with the Moto X (the Android Market is still a work in progress compared to the App store but 5 years is a long time since.
If only the Moto G was as small as the Moto X: I would sing Motorola's praises all day and night. Better battery life and at $200 unlocked? iphone 4 still sells at that price. Even the most spec-retardant brain can't ignore that the Moto G is just a better buy. Removable battery/MicroSD would've been gravy.

Active Notification and Touchless Controls on top of the smoothest/longest-in-its-range Android experience ever is hard to ignore at any price. Nexus 5 owners have to constantly reassure themselves they bought their phone for the specs, but that's all they got going for them in between mid-day charging

You can't do /change even a fraction of what you can on an Android on an iPhone. Jailbroken or not. They are completely over priced too boot.
Again.... 750 for an iPhone vs 450 for a Moto x should be a no brainer ... But apple still has this magic power with so many that you HAVE to have an iPhone.... Or you're not cool. Lol
A used 4s can still cost you what a new Moto x costs.... And the 4s is just awful compared to the X.
But the zombies still will by the 4s. Lol

I own all three: s4, n5 and moto x.
S4 is still the best IMHO:
-IR capability (once you have it can't live without)
-ext SD
-ext battery (internal batteries eventually lose capacity)
-better camera
-bigger screen
Now with that being said, I do like all three and the N5 and moto x have a better price point but there are concessions to get that price point.
I recommend all three depending on needs and likes.

That sounds like a user/software input issue rather than the hardware. It's on record the Galaxy S4 has the better performing camera(though IMO not by much), even on paper and by testimony so I know it's user error. It's not a secret that a lot of cameraphones just aren't good at low light conditions.

You may be right about people going with contracts to get the low upfront price. However, people can do the math too, and when nice equipment hits the $200 to $400 price range out of contract vs. free to $200 upfront cost + higher monthly payments the old way of doing business doesn't jive. T-Mobile who started the whole unbundled thing here in the USA still advertises low upfront prices but at least they're more honest and show it as a 0% finance loan which can be paid off over a couple years. Of course if you're on Verizon or Sprint, there isn't much benefit to paying up front unless you need to be on those networks due to coverage, or not wanting to go on contract but with no discount, or you're nursing along a grandfathered unlimited data plan. I'd expect Verizon to be the last vendor to get on board with the new way of doing business and only after they experience customers fleeing for a better deal.
Personally not a Mac guy (although I was in the 1980's) but I'm not sure what limitations they have that would make their computers limited. If anything, the whole modern interface thing MS is forcing on people might be driving people there. I built a great W8.1 computer which is absolutely awesome once I neutered it back to behaving like W7 (but it's actually much better than W7).
The whole iPhone thing is going to be a tough nut to crack in the USA. It seems almost everyone has an iPhone where you're out in public (not such an exclusive club when you think about it). My kids still have feature phones and their high school friends and cousins don't ask them when they're getting a smartphone, they ask when they're getting an iPhone. My daughter has a friend with a hand-me-down Samsung GS3 which the girl refers to as BIG BERTHA. Even our local news covers an Apple iDevice announcement as a news event (free advertising). People on national TV shows (mostly news type shows) almost always refer to their devices as "iPhones or iPads" and talk about how they are going to "facetime" someone (unless it's one of the many shows where MS has paid for product placements). I was looking at something in a Verizon store over Xmas and overheard a couple getting new phones. The guy said, "maybe I'll try an Android this time." The sales agent (young female) said, "you don't want to do that." Seen several people with cracked screened iPhones at the stores forking over big bucks to get another one. Basically they sell themselves or it's a very easy discussion for a sales agent. I was part of the computer industry when "proprietary" became a dirt word, so it absolutely floors me that folks are buying into a very proprietary setup with iDevices.
I do think Motorola is heading in a great direction with the X and G. Did run into some parents buying a Moto X for their daughter at a store via Motomaker. The young girl had a very specific combination of colors she wanted, and that alone was driving the desire for the Moto X. They saw I had one and were delighted I thought it was such a great device beyond the colors. A very good sign.

Actually I think it's documented that the s4 camera is terrible in any sort of low light. So not user error. Unless everyone that used it is doing it wrong.

How is it bashing when its the truth? I'd rather have a grainy lowlight picture that actually shows you something than one that's completely black. Obviously the s4 camera is better in light.

I'm not on an S4. I was just responding to the s4 camera bashing when the moto x takes iffy photos (bi-polar is probably the right word) even in normal indoor lighting.
I believe it is still software. The ISO in the attached picture is 5000 (totally unnecessary for it to be that high).
