Samsung Galaxy Note - I tried to like it :-(

I tried to like the Galaxy Note. I really did. However, the size is just to overpowering for me. Plus, I couldn't shake the fact that the GS3 has come out as a more feature-proof device.
When I first got the phone, I was in LOVE, LUST, whatever! However, pulling it out of my purse begin to feel like a chore and the noticeable lag was not something I felt I had to deal with on a $600.00 phone. Now, I know you say, well stall a new launcher/rom. But guys, these treats should ADD to a phone not mask faults/shortcomings.
I have to say, after hearing that the Note II may be a bigger size, I have to wonder what brave soul would carry it? Soon, will be putting Ipads up to our ears!
All in all, I want to say that I have enjoyed the Note forums and have learned soo much. Kudos, to those who LOVE their phones and I wish you a smooth free experience going forward.
P.S. Not looking for a fight, please don't start one. We are entitled to our opinions. That's what makes the world go round
Any Note owners considering the move to the GS3? I'd love to hear from you.

Im sad you feel like that but i guess its personal preference,
For me Ive adapted to the size, at first it was overwhelming but now it feels normal, All other phones feel miniature lol !!
Im also considering the SGS3, but not to replace my Note ! I have 2 lines with my provider and ones almost up, So I think I may get the S3 or hold out for the note2
that being said, Phones are getting bigger and bigger now, The HTC One X is big, Hell even the SGS3 is big !!
I dont make a lot of calls, and when i do i have my head phones / bluetooth headset in, So i rarely need to hold it to my ear.
I love my ''Phablet'' !!!

I could have bought an S3, but I chose the note instead. The S3 has a very slightly better camera sensor and two more cores on a slightly better CPU.
I see the Note's size as a plus, but that's entirely subjective. Both are great devices, and either will serve you well. Sometimes it takes a day or two to really know if you really like a device enough to keep it.

Today I asked a retailer if I could swap my SGN for S3.
I consider moving to S3 because of superbrick bug and screen issues.
But I'm still holding ..... isn't S3 another Samsung phone ?
Little confusion but I'll follow S3 forums and decide.

I was on the.original 5" bandwagon with the sell streak, I have had my note since November and I won't consider anything other than a note 2 for my next device.
There really is no going back from the.functionality of a 5" screen, for me at least.

You are not masking anything..bad choice of words.
Using a better ROM makes the phone faster and a lot smoother. There is no masking involved is all too real and proves that is not a hardware fault.
I do it with every phone and in the case of the NOTE. I am not changing unless it is for a NOTE 2 or similar.

Ever heard of these little battery-powered race cars from some years ago?
You buy one, Car A, and it goes like say, just for the sake of an example, 20mph. You buy another one, Car B, and it goes for 15mph.
Then you get yourself some aftermarket parts - engines, wheels, or whatever, and modified both Car A and Car B and now you're sure they are both in their fastest. After doing that, Car A now goes at 30mph, while Car B goes at 40mph. Car B is faster now even if it was slower to begin with. It had more potential than Car A - but that won't be realized without some effort on your part. Also, it's also useful to note that the manufacturers of these two cars may be different from each other and may also not be expecting what you intend to do modify their cars as well.
Heck, why am I even using toy cars as a comparison? Should've went straight to phone comparisons and the text would've been much shorter. XD
Anyway, I'm assuming you have a Note. Try not to throw it away and just play with it. Maybe you'll find time to like it some day.

This is the best phone i ever had and i don`t feel the need to buy the Galaxy S3.
I`am not realy fond of touchwizz so i am running CM9, the phone is super fast, has no lags and does work as it is supposed to be.
I love the big screen for browsing, games, video`s and photo`s.
I will probably only change for the Note 2 :victory:

Difference of opinion. I stand by my original statement. I even upgraded to ICS and while it made some difference in smoothness, the results were negligible plus it added some problems.
Adding to my original post. I also think the Note is going to become the red-headed step-child now that the GS3 is out. May not be true, but that is my gut feeling. Besides, I bought my note, last week -- Technically, I'm already using outdated equipment. For those who are passed their return windows, the Note is great, but for those who still have time to AT LEAST play with the SG3, I would.

The only my 1 BIG reason getting the Note is S-pen. It really saves my work days apart from other BIG cool features.
If the S-pen means a lots to you then all other smartphones, out there, are being nothing nowadays.

Interesting discussion, and I'd like to post my opinion as well.
What clearly differentiates the Note from other phones is the size. And the pen. I almost forgot about the pen, as I hardly use it. For me, a Note would be equally fine if it came without the pen. Some will disagree here, as they have other usage requirements.
I deliberately chose the Note due to the screen size. I had iphone and other phones, and I use the phone frequently to watch movies and to browse the web during my frequent travels. Having used iphone and others previously, I got more and more depressed with the small screens. I can say that I appreciate the Note's larger screen and its great resultion. It makes these tasks simply more fun.
If someone performs tasks such as phone calls and SMS, the larger screen size does not benefit (much). So appreciation with the phone is releated to its use.
So I believe the phone serves people with certain specific requirements, and other features/functions are then simply less important.
Unfortunately for me, watching movies is somewhat affected by the bad screen gamma as reported at many several in the forum. But I still would not want to change back to a smaller size, as I am not much disturbed by it and I can live with the issue (also because my screen is by far not as bad as what some guys report here).
If I ever (have to) change the phone, I wish it would have the following characteristics:
1. Approx. same screen size, but certainly not smaller
2. No gamma issue / better gamma calibration
3. Better back camera (better sharpness, less distortion, better light sensitivity)
4. Provide root access out of the box (no jailbreak/rooting required)
5. Better battery life of Android OS (probably requires better software programming skills)
Performance-wise, I am totally happy with what I have now, and I am not requiring more CPU cores or higher frequency. My phone has been totally responsive all the time out of the box since November 2011.
I had GB 2.3.5, 2.3.6 and ICS 4.0.3, am now on Paranoid Android 0.4 as I totally disliked the email app in ICS. So the operating system still matters somewhat. So it is good to have a choice here.

The only time I feel that the Note is too big is when I am in "dangerous" zones in the city where people could snatch your phone anytime! I mean if you take out a smaller phone, it would probably go unnoticed at 60% of times, but with the Note out in your hands, this huge beast will surely attracts everyone's attention in 99% rate!
Otherwise, I never encountered any so called problems that many people are complaining about!

Some adapt to Note's size, some don't. Good thing is that we have a choice. I'm really against Apple-like "one size fits all" philosophy.

from a gamer's perspective i say : f*ck all other phones, the screen is just perfect for my taste.

[Q] Nexus 4, or Nexus 10? Which one would suit me more?

I realize it's a comparison between a phone and a tablet, but I really don't know which one to get at this point, so I'm hoping some people can possibly help me out
I was mainly interested in the Nexus 4 because of it's portability, camera (8MP), and it has cellular, which I might find useful. I haven't really messed with smaller Android devices though for too long (used 7-inch tablets), so I don't know how well I'll fair with the screen size. I also heard recently that the Nexus 4 wasn't on AOSP, and haven't really seen anything official saying it would ever be supported...
The Nexus 10 is clearly going to be a "slight" issue with portability. The camera is only 5MP, but I really don't know too much more then that (I'm sure there's other aspects to consider when comparing cameras other then megapixels). The screen size sounds amazing, and would be pretty entertaining for gaming and movies, and the resolution is even nicer. And from what I heard, this is the best device for AOSP currently Has no cellular however, but then again I don't think I would want to be using this thing for a phone either (perhaps I can get a hotspot?)
Hardware is another concern. If I assume right, the better the hardware, the longer the device will be supported by Google. With this in mind, the Nexus 10 would be the last device in the latest list of devices to stop receiving higher Android versions, due to the system specs (has more power to run later Android versions basically). Also, hardware determines how smoothly the device would operate as well. I'm certain that both the Nexus 4 and 10 can do the usual tasks without any issue at all, but gaming-wise, I feel the Nexus 10 would be better.
I also have a slight interest in trying to develop for Android in the future, with apps.
So basically:
Nexus 4 Benefits:
- Portability (main)
- Cellular
Disadvantages:
- No AOSP (yet anyway, if ever)
- Go out-of-date quicker
Nexus 10 Benefits:
- Hardware (main)
- AOSP
Disadvantages:
- Portability
- No Cellular (could maybe just get a hotspot though, idk)
As it stands currently, I can't really purchase either device at the moment (I don't have the funds or card from PayPal yet, Nexus 4 is out of stock, and Nexus 4 is a tiny bit more then I have in my PayPal currently). So I have a little bit before I can make a decision anyway Any help would be nice though.
Also, it would be awesome if anyone who has a Nexus 10 currently could try to answer some gaming-related questions:

This post is stupid and just cluttering up the Q&A's. They are both totally different devices and it depends on what your requirements are therefore no one here can tell you what is best. If you need a new phone get the 4 if you want a tablet get the 10 if you want both then get both. Simple.

Camera, I don't really think it would matter to much, but both are great devices. I say its all in what you want for portability. If you get the tablet, you'd think you should've gotten the phone. Same if you get the phone. Not much of a help, but what phone do you have now? Do you really need an upgrade?
I'd most likely go for the Phone. Tablets, never really admired them to much. I had a Galaxy Tablet. Wasn't impressed.
Also, this was with a 3MP 2 year old phone stock camera. Look at it :thumbup:

If your mainly interested in the Nexus 4 then go for that. I thought my I9000 was getting old! It will be a massive upgrade of your current phone.

I think you almost answered your own question with the portability comment. I'm getting the N10 becasue I already have an S3. IMO I would go with the N4 in your case. It will also be way easier to show off the N4 to all your friends.

Well currently I don't really use my cell phone a lot (it doesn't really offer too much aside from calling and texting, both of which I don't seem to use too much) at the moment.
My plan was, if I would get the Nexus 4, was to get a data-unlimited plan, and be pretty much good to go in terms of mobility , However, after re-evaluating my financial situation, I don't really have the money to be paying for a phone plan monthly...
I could probably use a cheap prepaid thing for calling and texting, but having no data (or at least not unlimited) is kind of a big downside. Because of this, I may end up going for the Nexus 10 in the end.
I haven't spent too much time in the Nexus 10 forums at all since I really wasn't planning to buy this device initially, but are there any possible "widespread" issues with this device? With the Nexus 4 for example, some people mention temperature throttling, and there's even a decent thread about yellow tinting on the screen depending on how much heat is generated.

Considering it's still on it's way to consumers hands, there really aren't any reports of widespread issues yet (that I have read about). I have been looking at tablets for about 6 months now, and was relieved to hear that Samsung was doing the hardware for this. In my research, and talking to people with tablets, there is always going to be some sort of "issue". I was dead set on the Infinity until I started hearing all the negative reports. That being said, I have talked to happy Infinity owners as well. I think with these types of tech, you have to gamble at some point, becasue there is always going to be something better and newer around the corner. IMO, the amount of features you get for the price is just too sweet to pass up on the N10. Maybe I will regret it, maybe I won't. Either way, I will have a 10 inch tablet, where as right now, I don't own one...

If money for the phone plan is a concern, I'm not sure I would consider any of these two devices.
I would say nexus 4, but if you aren't going to use data then you may as well stick with your old phone until you can.
If you are looking at a wifi only nexus 10, why not nexus 7? It has better portability then the N10, and is also $200 cheaper.
Depending on where you live, you might be able to find some free wifi, but I know where I live the only time I find useful wifi is when I'm at home.

Yea that's probably a good point; but I sold my Nexus 7 and other stuff specifically for a new device lol; kind of miss having an Android device

I would like to use data, but I mean technically I barely use my current phone as it is. Chances are I would probably use the device for videos and games then actual calling and texting. But since I can't really get a data plan in the forseeable future, I don't quite know how comfortable I'd feel using the Nexus 4.

I had a Nexus 7, and it was nice and all, but the specs on the Nexus 10 are what make me want it, along with the larger screen size.

Yea WiFi is a bit of a problem in my area, but the places I usually go have free WiFi available.
I'm probably just going to go with a Nexus 10 at this point though. Not being able to get an unlimited data plan is a pretty big disadvantage imo, and I barely call and text people as it is currently anyway with my phone (I think I actually used Google Voice more on my Nexus 7 when I had it). The large display and hardware has me really interested in the Nexus 10 currently. Possibly another big bonus is a rear-facing camera, which my Nexus 7 didn't have (didn't know how much I would of liked one until I didn't have it; came from a SGT7 prior to getting a N7).
If anything though, I would most likely get a Nexus 4 later

If you can only get one, get the Nexus 4.
You'll certainly get more use out of it for day to day things and it'll be just fine as a development platform as well.
I'm passing on the N4 because my One X is nearly as capable for my smartphone needs, the screen is right on par with resolution, size and quality, it's arguably just as "sexy", and has twice the storage (and a strong development community).
I might be singing a different song if the N4 at least matched my One X's 32Gb of storage, but that's not to be.
I am however, picking up an N10, despite already owning an N7 and Tab 8.9 LTE. The display...for me it's all about the display, and the N10's display is a significant upgrade from my existing tablets.

I'm pretty sure I'll end up going with the 10, but the only thing bothering me currently is, I guess what seems to be the lack of "attention" towards the device? I mean I was just looking at the forum information, and the N4 has 24k posts under General, whereas the N10 only has 2k... I mean this probably doesn't mean much at all, but what would this say about ROM/Kernel development and interest in the long run?

If you are saying the N10 isn't getting attention, then I would assume your original post is misleading. You were inquiring about portability and such, not development. I think overall, the cellular devices get more "attention" than tablets anyway...

I don't think I care about development "that" much, but I do like trying out people's ROM's and Kernels from time to time. I guess in the end both devices will have a good bit of attention, with the N4 having more.
I'm using cardboard cutouts of the N4 and N10 atm and seeing how well they fare with general usage around the house. I am liking the N10 a good bit more so far

Compare the post counts between the Galaxy Nexus section and the Nexus 7. There's simply a lot more phone owners than tablet owners, hence more raw activity.
But there's no shortage of custom and modded ROMs, tweaks and kernels for the N7, and there won't be for the N10 either.

Considering the Nexus 4 - What are its major flaws?

I currently have a Nexus S which I have had for 2 years now. I'm considering the Nexus 4, was going for the S4 but this is half the price, and the iPhone 6 would be too far out and the iOS would not be to my liking.
I know I cannot really go wrong with the Nexus 4 - it's loved by every reviewer, and not because of its price - the price is only a bonus.
What are its major flaws? I have a few things I was curious about:
- Screen touch sensitivity/fluidity. When your finger touches/swipes on the screen, does it behave like an iPhone 5 or the Galaxy S3/4/Note II devices? I personally like the sensitivity to your finger from the iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy devices. I don't have this in my current Nexus S but definitely would like it in my next phone.
- Battery life. Can it last 14-16 hours, with let's say, 2-3 hours of screen time or so?
- Camera. I've seen some sample pictures, was not too impressed, but as long as it's decent I'm fine.
- Headphone output? I heard the headphone output is lower than other devices from a video. Not sure if significant.

Tbh I've considered that, but it'll be announced in October, released in December, and if I want it with my carrier it'll probably hit in perhaps March/April of 2014, unless I choose to buy it from the Play Store.
I also heard it packs in a lot, and I think Google's going to price it high this time around. Either way, my current carrier is offering the N4 16GB for only $300 outright. So its price seems lower than market value, and it for some reason is hard for me to wait.

I upgraded from by Galaxy S (Same as the Nexus S) in Feb.
- Screen touch sensitivity/fluidity. I would say the same, hard to notice the difference.
- Battery life. 5+ hrs on screen time with WiFi on (I dont have data so thats not in use). It was a definate improvement from Galaxy S.
- Camera. There is a mod floating around that allows you to get better quality pictures at the cost of a larger file size.
- Sound. NOTHING beat Galaxy S's sound chip. I was disappointed a bit here.
- Overall animation/fluidity/framerate. Stock android on N4, even the most overclocked Galaxy S with the most slimmed rom cannot come close to these speeds.
- Size. I like smaller phones that fit into my pocket easier. Galaxy S wins here but thats a personal choice. HD videos play exactly to scale on the N4, you just feel immersed.
- Physical features. You can't drop it, glass on both sides, bumpers/cases probably won't do anything. It's also heavier. No removable battery or SD card. I made the mistake of getting the 8GB, dont. Doesn't feel plasticky/cheap like the Galaxy S.
ROM support is very nice here, I think it's just as good as when Galaxy S was in it's prime.
You have to get it, try getting it through your provider ($300 in canada for the 16Gb via koodo whereas $366 shipped from goolge for the 8Gb)

What can the Nexus 4 do that your Nexus S can't? The Nexus 5 will be even better than the Nexus 4 on all scales. It is rumored to be based off the LG G2 which will have stereo speakers, bigger screen, improved camera, and much more. Maybe even launched with Key Lime Pie(?)

My touchscreen never goes crazy when charging from a PC.

i had a nexus s for long time, loved that thing. yes, it does have great sound, especially with voodoo, but the nexus s is merely a childs toy compared to the nexus 4. heck, the galaxy nexus was a large step from the nexus s. you will love the nexus 4. coming from two samsung phones in a row(ns and gnex), i first thought that not having a plastic back was the nexus 4s' major flaw, but now i dont mind

Touch sensitivity is quite good for an android device similar to the nexus s, but the nexus 4 has lower touch sensitivity than it is capable of because of the touchscreen drivers, this problem has supposedly been fixed in the upcoming android 4.3 update but honestly touch response is very good you won't have a problem.
As for battery expect 4-5 hours sot on WiFi and 3-4 hours on 3g.
Photos in good lighting conditions are quite good but in low light its another story so if you take pictures in good light you'll be okay.
I find the sound output to be fairly reasonable its quite loud I don't think you'll have a problem with it unless you need to drive something huge with a high impedance, for normal headphones/earphones its loud enough.

You have to get it, try getting it through your provider ($300 in canada for the 16Gb via koodo whereas $366 shipped from goolge for the 8Gb)

You can drop it with a bumper on and screen protectors. I dropped mine onto concrete and accidentally stepped on it. Lol its perfectly fine except for the scratch on my screen protector

Gets extremely hot when gaming. I'm not sure whether this causes damage, but it makes me sweat on the device.
Both 3G and Wifi have connection issues. This may be fixed in software, but I'm not sure.
Speaker sound isn't as good as some other phones.
Being totally flat, it sits flush on a surface and the speaker is covered, muting notification sounds.
Being made of glass, there's twice as much breakable surface.

I upgraded my Nexus S for the N4 about the time it launched, so I know how slow it must be getting.
While its not perfect, I wouldn't trade it for anything on the market. It's a nexus device, which has the major benefit of being the first to be updated and having more stable ROMs, which you will miss from other devices.
The battery is not as good as I would have hoped for, but it will get me through the day as long as I'm not using it constantly. With mobile data on, I can get 2 hours of SOT (Screen on Time) if I wasn't playing games.
On the topic of the screen, I can tell you that the stock color calibration is extremely washed out. It's a good screen, they just botched the calibration. I remember looking at it for the first time and being really disappointed because of the faded look of colors like blue. This is something that is easily fixed by a non-stock kernel like Franco's Kernel, which is the one I use. The calibration I have right now looks amazing.
While the headphone output is quiet by the standards of most phones, I don't notice it unless I plug it into something like external speakers, or my car.
Also, it's probably worth noting that the 4.3 update that was leaked yesterday is supposed to drastically improve touch sensitivity.
and I would probably wait until at least the 24th of July on the off chance that Google announces lower pricing or a higher capacity version.

Touch Pretty darn smooth. Without a screen protector that is. But even with a sp you'll be able to swipe like no other. Response is top notch and definitely on par with new released phones. (Just my opinion)
Battery If you're a heavy user the battery might slack. If you're an addict, don't get this phone lol. But if you're able to balance data / running apps / screen time / etc. this phone will be perfect. (Choose the right rom & kernel, or just stay stock with a nice kernel)
Camera I don't use it that much but its alright, not the best out there. If you're some fancy photographer I doubt you'll be satisfied. But still takes pretty nice pictures as long as you take it right
Headphone I literally listen to music all day if I'm out of my house. No doubt the output is nice and clear, but it all depends on what type of headphones you're using.
This phone isn't a super computer. It lags when it needs to and produces slight flaws as you use it. But then again, what electronic doesn't
In the end, it all depends on the user's preferences. But if anything, I'd recommend waiting for the N5.

One of the most annoying things about the N4 is undoubtedly the fact that notifications etc cannot be heard when the phone lies flat with the screen up. Many calls have been missed due to this fact...

When I touch in one spot it reacts like I hit another location.

I have to say, it is SLIPPY. It slips off everthing, even when i think its a flat surface!

Do u run custom Roms/kernels on the nexus s?
If you want the same experience x100 then the nexus 4 is for u.
I went from a nexus s to a nexus 4 and I'm more than happy. Android + iOS smoothness.
Flaws:
The touchscreen unresponsiveness is not major (very soft touches don't register sometimes) and it is remedied with either a custom kernel in 4.2.2 or with the upcoming 4.3 (new touchscreen driver).
Screen colors are a bit washed, but with the same solutions as above screen is beautiful.
The phone is made of glass, so it is not as resilient to falls as the nexus s.
Some people experience notification delays on specific WiFi routers. Never had such problem myself.
The phone tends to get hot when in mobile network or under heavy use (because its glass). Can be solved with custom kernels, undervolting/underclocking (this is the most tweakable phone ever).
No issues with audio.
Camera is good. Not the best, but acceptable quality.
Battery life is typically between 4 to 6 hours screen on time, on WiFi, which is pretty good in my opinion.
P.s. this phone offers the smoothest android experience from every other phone I put my hands on.

I wouldn't wait for n5 as it's rumored to have a 5" screen which I feel is too large.

Who's getting one and why?

Hey all
So the latest Nexus smartphone has gone big! Not only in size, but expected retail price. How do other members feel this stacks up with other devices? Say the Samsung Note 4 or Huawei mate 7? Is sticking to a Quad-core processor a wise choice, as so many flagships are touting an Octa-Core?
As with Nexus devices, this latest model also does not feature a micro SD card slot, for me a big omission and one reason i myself have avoided the nexus series, is this a big deal for others?
We also see a move towards AMOLED screen technology, personally i really like the vibrant colors and bright display AMOLED brings, but how do others feel about this change?
Who will be grabbing a Nexus 6 and why take this over the competition? Would also like to hear comments from those coming from the Nexus 5, is the screen size just to big a jump?

Nexus 5 is cracking up around the body.

It's water resistant, if you think it's too big - use it as your umbrella as well!

I recently ditched VZW for T-Mobile. Loving it. Have the G3, which is awesome. BUT, wet all know pure Android is where is at. SO, hard to pass this up. Plus I can use my JUMP program to get it, so as long as I put some money down up front, the larger price tag doesn't really affect me (all at once). I love phablets, went from Note 3 on VZW, to this G3. So the size isn't necessarily a hurdle for me.
Mostly tho, it's Lollipop. Biggest & best update to Android yet. And T-Mobile won't mess with the update process. So that's honestly why. Because there's absolutely nothing wrong with my G3. But I'ma nerd, and I want A nexus! Haha

My reason is that I want to move to a bigger form factor and also have the ability to have stock, vanilla Android without bloat. The funny thing is that all those that complain about the price never seem to bring up the expense of the Note 3 or other phones. With those you have serious bloat and no ability outside of root to weed it out. Don't forget you don't have to wait 3 to 6 months to get the latest Android update. Those things taken into account and the Nexus 6 looks like a pretty good deal.

Samsung kept delaying the note 4 in the UK so that it would arrive next Saturday when im leaving to Florida for a week.
So i though F**k it when the N6 was announced as it is cheaper and my warranty will not be void day 1
Although the N6 may be behind on some things, battery life, micro sd card slot and camera.

I love Nexus and have always been disappointed in the cheap feel of the N5. With the spec of the N6, its my total fantasy of an awesome phone.

Upgrading from my GNex, first time I felt it was worthy, second I'm still on VZ.
Will pull trigger after handling one in store though.
As to size, unsure yet, but anythign out there now is a bit bigger than what I came from, however I fall in line with most of the other answers:

I was going to get a phone and a tablet but why now when I can saving money and only need one device with an unmatched development community?
I've had two notes. Never removed the battery once, but I did use the SD card. With 64 gigs though, I won't need a card. I also used the MultiWindows and pen windows a lot but now I can get those features from Xposed with TouchWiz bloat and ugliness. There's nothing else the Note offers me. Maybe a slightly better camera (we'll see), but that's not a priority of mine.
The Mate 7 looked awesome, and I considered it over the Nexus, but it will have little to no development, and is only a little cheaper.

To utilize my jump. Might as well jump every six months since I'm paying for it.
And it's a nice device. I miss Motorola from three flip phone days. They always had good hardware.

I haven't had a Motorola phone since the Bionic. Since then I've had the Note 2 and Note 3. I love them, but now that Moto has made a big phone, I'm really excited. Even though it's not really a productivity one.
And I've never had a Nexus, so this is perfect. Big screen like I like, quality Moto, and I can get it through a carrier.

I was thinking about buying a Note 4 or the Note Edge, but this phone just looks amazing. I also want the biggest phone I can fit in my pocket and the fact that it will be unlocked or unlockable on Verizon also got me. The fact that it already will ship with Lollipop is better yet and will get the latest updates is another reason. I can't stand being locked down as I would be with the Samsung devices on Verizon and I can't switch to Tmobile because they have NO service in my area. This phone is gorgeous and has every specification I could ever ask for. I never used the stupid pen on my Note 2 and I never used the split screen either. I also think the price is fantastic all things considered, even though for some reason so many people are complaining about it. Nexus 6, 64gb, probably white, here I come. I never thought I would say this. Nexus got me with this phone.

My Nexus 5 got jacked few months back!! and I loved it. I was going to buy another but I held back and so I thought, I'd wait for the N6 to release before making my next purchase, I'm still reluctant though due to no known UK price but I had budgeted £450 for the release. But even this is looking unlikely with conversion from USD with VAT. So if I'm going to have to spend more, I really need to see reviews and maybe it in real life

I am currently in a situation where I honestly am not in a rush to buy a new phone, I prefer to have the latest and greatest (because it generally holds up better over the years) and I want a phone that'll serve me for another 2-3 years.
The Nexus 6P has a lot going for it, the display, the stereo speakers, the buttery smooth UI, sleek design and fingerprint scanner.
On the flip side, I find it a bit too big (but I can manage it) and I'm worried about how well the phone will age. I don't have much faith in the Snapdragon 810. Is it still worth buying or am I better off waiting for the next generation?
The Nexus 6p costs $630 here. I've had a look at the newest 2016 flagships and only HTC 10 caught my attention, but the price of the phone is an outrageous $830 and I cannot justify spending so much.
So, should I hop on the Nexus 6P wagon or wait for the next generation?

I'd say for you to wait. But for what? I don't see any flagships phones to be announced. Don't know. Maybe the next Nexus? Surely will be a few months away.
The CPU is not that important. At least for me. If I'd buy the Nexus 6P at this time. Probably yes, for the price and updates.

I upgraded last month to a 6P but that's because my N5 was on it's last legs and there was a sale ($500 for a 64GB 6P and they throw in a $50 gift card so it's effectively $450).
I would have waited for a 820-based 6P but it's unclear if Google will really release such a beast. I wanted a Nexus device to ensure updates for a few years so I ended pulling the trigger on the 6P when the sale was announced.

The other device to look at would be the Moto X Pure.
Processor is slower but here in the states a 64GB version for $399.

Another option came up, the Samsung Galaxy S7 for $680 - so $50 more.
The S7 has a lot going for it, like the more wieldy size, better display, good camera, waterproofing (which is more of a nice-to-have sort of thing). On the other hand I will be missing out on the quick Android updates and the stock android experience and I will get the TouchWiz UI, which I don't mind (I've been living with G2's UI for 2.5 years which isn't much better...) and I'll be missing out on the stereo speakers.
The Moto X Style is really nice, but if the SD 810 has me worried, how about the 808? I like the looks of the Moto X Style but the SD 808 and bad battery life is a deal breaker, even at the $420 price tag.

Had to get the 6P for Fi. Happy with it. I was holding out for I/O 2016 in hopes they would announce a mid year fresh with better CPU but no such thing happened. Oh well. This phone is pretty chill for me.

oh man we are in the exact same situation here ! literally ! G2 802 owner here. i was running exodus 6.0.1. it will keep you going for a little while but with lack of good camera features. i will be pulling the trigger on the 6p soon. it costs 594$ here if bought from play devices (play store), but in third party e commerce sites its about 475.. the prices will drop soon. currently its at its lowest price here. once it hits the 400$ barrier im picking it up for sure ! guaranteed updates for next 2-3 years officially another thought is that . what if the next nexus is actually cheaper than the current 6p ? (in terms of initial pricing). itll be like we bought the old device for just 10-15$ more or something.. hence till my g2 is going good, i can keep it on hold. i suggest you do the same . head over to cheapass.in , here you can track prices of the links posted from e commerce sites and it will tell mail you to inform you the price drop ive been following the 6p for a while now.

If I would to buy it now I would do it. I got mine in January and no had no problems with it at all. i get good battery life and with the improvements android N it will be better in my opinion. I been using a V10 a few weeks as I got it for my backup/media phone since it has a sd card and while i like it especially cause the camera will be great for the future...i returned back to the 6P yesterday and i forgot how much i love it. great screen and i forgot how awesome those speakers are. the moto x pure might be a little better but still the 6P speakers are great. my only gripe is that i wish google would be a damn sd card slot but i know it will never happen but i can dream.

I came over from a G2 and haven't regretted it for a minute.

Just had to retire my G2 D800 due to screen ghost touches. Got the 6p. Bigger but loving it so far. Not really a phone gamer, just calls, texts, and read news articles. Battery is amazing. 6-7 hours SOT.

Would love to know how you're managing that... I'm lucky to get over 4 hours on anything from stock to custom ROMs and kernels with Greenify, Xposed, etc. Never play games, only browsing, texting, music, and small YouTube bits here and there. My battery life has never been that great on any device like some people claim.

Only rooted. Ad blocker installed. Disabled all non essential Google apps (Chrome, Drive, Movies and TV, Books, Games, and Photos). I use Tinfoil for Facebook instead of the stock app and Opera Mini. I don't need emails delivered immediately so all syncing is turned off. And turned off Googles 'Back up my data' in Backup and Reset since there seems to be a bug with it eating away battery in some of the other forums. I don't need Google Now and disabled the voice activation in Search. At this very moment, I've got 7.5 SOT with 12% battery left.

We are literaly in the same exact situation, I've had my G2 for about 2 years now and I recently rooted it and flashed Google Edition 1.5 ROM + Dorimanx kernel which kinda revived my phone and Its now way smoother with better battery life, that being said I cant see myself keeping this phone after the summer's done and I've been looking for a potential replacement. The HTC 10 looks perfect on paper: similar size, better specs, better build quality but since it just came out Its too expensive for me, looking at last year's flagships the nexus 6p seems the best of the lot but it's just so damn big and my hands are kinda small. At this point I really cant decide if I should get a 6P in like August or wait a year or so until I can afford the HTC 10.Btw if anybody knows some other reasonably priced 5.2-5.3 inch phone with atleast 3 gigs of ram and a cpu equivalent to a 810 please let me know.

The HTC 10 looks perfect on paper: similar size, better specs, better build quality but since it just came out Its too expensive for me, looking at last year's flagships the nexus 6p seems the best of the lot but it's just so damn big and my hands are kinda small. At this point I really cant decide if I should get a 6P in like August or wait a year or so until I can afford the HTC 10.Btw if anybody knows some other reasonably priced 5.2-5.3 inch phone with atleast 3 gigs of ram and a cpu equivalent to a 810 please let me know.

I had an HTC 10, 6P, and S7 Edge all at the same time. I currently only have the 6P and S7 Edge - trying to decide which to keep.
The 10 was a good phone. But here's what killed it for me... the LCD and the size, mostly. The LCD is great for an LCD. But it's still an LCD, and it's terrible compared to OLED. The 6P and S7E are just so much better to look at, even in sRGB modes where they aren't oversaturated. Having pure black is something most people don't appreciate until they see it on a 55"+ TV in front of them. I have a $4,000 4K OLED TV, and I can never go back. The same holds true with even a small smartphone display - you use the display more than anything. It better look damn good. Also, even if I could get past the contrast, there were 2 other major issues I had with it. Number 1, the motion blur was TERRIBLE! It might not actually be that bad in the LCD world, but OLED has practically instant pixel response. That in itself removes a LOT of motion blur until we get 120+Hz smartphone panels - it's coming, just you wait! Also, the 10's display had a pink/red tint to it, 24/7. Holding it next to the 6P or S7E, this was obvious. And after years of having large phablets, I really couldn't go back to using a 5.2" screen.
Everything else about the 10 is something to love. The design is incredible. The camera is great. The DAC/amp are great. The speakers were great. The speed of the device, the factory go-ahead to root/unlock, the fingerprint sensor, the feel in the hand... all awesome. But none of these good qualities could make up for its worst, and that was the display.

The Nexus 6p costs $630 here. I've had a look at the newest 2016 flagships and only HTC 10 caught my attention, but the price of the phone is an outrageous $830 and I cannot justify spending so much.
So, should I hop on the Nexus 6P wagon or wait for the next generation?

Is stock Android a must for you? If the answer is no, then there are already better phones out and more on the way if you want to wait a bit longer.
Also, I know people here don't want to hear this again, but I have severe doubts that the 6P is a 2-3 year phone. It's just not built that way unfortunately to be completely honest. I would keep that in mind while you decide.

No phone is a 2-3 year phone. And if there's one it's the 6P because of the updates policy. Samsung is surely out of the equation in that matter.

Tell Apple, Samsung, LG users, etc that. There are plenty of 2-3 year capable phones out there. How many 2-3 year users there are is an entirely different question.
I still know plenty of people out there with iPhone 4s, 5, Galaxy S4, S5, LG G2 & G3's out there. And not to leave Nexus users out, I still know people with Nexus 5's out there.
So I wouldn't say there isn't one out there. And in my opinion, the 6P won't be one of them. There are already too many threads with issues. Only time will tell on the 6P.

Any phone can be a 2-3 year phone. Just depends how much the person is a tech fanatic and appreciates the latest and greatest. My buddy is using an S5 still... I couldn't do it, but he never complains.

I've had the 6P for about 6 months and have been very satisfied with it. Coming from the Nexus 5 I was also worried about the size but I got used to it quickly. I'm not sure I would want anything bigger though. If you're wanting a Nexus you could wait for the next one but you never know what they'll do next. I bought my Nexus 5 when I realized the then soon to be released Nexus 6 was going to be so huge.
