Hi All,
My Nexus 10's power button was broken right out of the box, it wouldn't spring back. It took Google, 4 days to sort the mess with requesting the RMA and as of now they want me to provide them with the CSSN number. I have given them the Serial Number and little bit of Google search tells me the same, Serial number = CSSN number.
The support rep insists I must provide the additional CSSN number for the replacement to go through. Anyone that has gone through the shipment ordeal - could you help me out? I'm getting pretty frustrated by this.
Thanks

Yes, it's the serial number and it's Settings > About tablet > Status > Serial number or on outside of box. The agent must be thinking it's the IMEI number??

tablet does not have IMEI !! lol
THis is weird. I've returned 3 nexus 10 and all I had to tell them were the serial numbers. maybe you should contact another agent.

I'm wondering the same, i replied back to his email giving my serial number (which he already did have on his file). I'm hoping they ship the replacement soon.

Believe it or not the first agent never asked me for the serial number.
Second one didn't realize it was missing and was wondering why the process never went through.
third one saw the serial number is missing and went forward with the RMA request.
Fourth agent told me the issue has been escalated so I should call back later.
Finally the fifth agent, the one I'm talking to now did manage to process the RMA. I finally received the replacement order email and return shipping label. I went ahead and did that and the order was processed.
Sadly the agent then told me he needs the cssn number to move forward with the return process.
I honestly thought Google would have something like this sorted out. I'm so annoyed. :/

I'm going through this same issue. Just emailed them the serial number and screenshot that obviously shows that there is no fantom CSSN number.

Okay, up to this moment we have first few reports rergarding:
1. In the UK, M$ may ask users to provide IMEI but we are not 100% sure if they will generate Activation code or not to HD2's IMEI (some people provided HD2's IMEI but it was still accepted).
2. If you aren't lucky enough, M$ will require you to ring HTC or your network operator first, as they said that they do not issue Activation code any more.
The conclusion about microsoft's policy on HD2 is still unclear.

@16:00pm today, 15/01/2011; I rang to M$ support call centre in the UK and asked for a Window Phone 7 Activation Code. These are the outlines of my experience:
1/ The operator asked me for my Full name, Email address and Home Address to register to the system.
2/ He asked me about my Phone Manufacturer and Phone Model
(Is that a HTC HD7 sir?. Yes, that is)
Click to collapse
3/ He asked me about the Serial Number of my phone.
as my phone is actually a HTC HD2, so I didn't give him my phone's serial number. Instead, I made up a story why I haven't got that HD7's serial number with me at the moment
Click to collapse
.
This is your choice. You can make up a story or you can be honest with M$. Don't judge other people's decisions in here
4/ He said I should have it, but in this case, he will try to generate that Activation Code for me
5/ After waiting for 5 minutes, he was back with the code and he said I should keep this code very safe as this is an unique code for each customer. He also gave me a Reference Number in case I lose my Activation Code, I could ring them this the Reference Number and someone will take the code back for me.
6/ The operator was very polite and all the process was in very pleasant atmosphere.
Conclusion:
People are still disputing if it is legally right or not to get an WP7's activation code from M$ to use for HD2 phone. That is your decision. I'm not having any responsibility for anything happens to you.
I heard that some operator might be very flexible to generate you a code, some others might ask for more specific information about your phone (e.g, my case). I'm not 100% sure if their is an official action from M$ to against this or not. SO do it with your own risk!
Just do it like I did and tell them you don't know what phone model it is, but when you try to download something it asks for a code.
in short, act like a stupid kid, they usually won't deal with you very long.
EDIT:
and you don't need to give them correct information, I gave them information that traces back to a bakery or something, only my live account, which is bogus.
I created a hotmail account with region set to english, then called microsoft support uk and told them I had recently bought an HD7 and it keeps prompting me for some kind of activation thing. Pretend you dont know what youre talking about.
She asked me for my first and last name, phonenumber and email adress. I just gave her my real name, and real phonenumber. Now the thing is, I'm dutch. So I told her its a dutch number, which was no problem to her. Gave her my valid dutch number. Then gave her my hotmail account. She never asked for my adress or serial number.
She then immediatly gave me my activation code, thanks
It was worth a call to england I can tell you, didnt have to wait long either.
What phone number did you use I tried the 0844 just to be told its shut
Thanks

As they don't really care about the model we are using when requesting a Activation code, so I assume that it's is ok to register your Mozart with them, and get the activation code to use on HD2.
However, a situation may occur: If you use Mozart and HD2 at the same time, with the same code, the Live system could recognise these unreasonable accesses and block both of them. This is just an assuming, but who knows?
Just called to US Microsoft Support from Poland using Skype, and within about 5 minutes (including waiting to get connected with real person) i got my activation code. I just said, that i got second-hand HD7 and can't get it to work with Live Services ;>
I was asked only for my name, second name, email adress and phone number (and i gave my polish number here, no problems at all). Everything is working now ;>
Does this mean that WP7 looks down eventually? If you don't have activation code?
Come on Look closely at the box of your beloved HD2. You will see the "Windows Phone" logo on it. I guess that's exactly the OS we are all using right now with the phone )))
bet they think theres been some sort of technology leap and all of a sudden people are stupid, if i was at ms id be thinking "why would they have a hd7 if they where dumb with technology, they would have some crappy symbian phone which is easy to work"
if a new release or update from cotulla s released do we need another activation code or it is specified to the email account

The activation code is linked to the email account so as long as you use that again then it should be fine.
Mark.
Same here. Called MS USA using mig33, got a very nice operator, she only asked for first and last name, e-mail and phone no. I have to wait for about 3 minutes then she give me the code
Marketplace is fully working now. Already downloaded 12 apps as I'm writing this ;D
Much thanks for the DFT!
I just called MS in the US. They asked for name, email and phone (just made those up) and was immediately given code. I use another email account, which perfectly worked with the activation code. So the activation code does not seem to be linked to the email provided with the call (as that one I did not use)
yeah im pretty sure they ask for your name so they know what name to call you when they talk to you, the email in case they have to email you the code or any extra info and a number in case they have to call you back in case the call gets disconnected...
Question guys.
i seen posts that you can use the code ever 30 days, so does that mean you have to put in the code again in 30 days? or what?

They ask the email so they can email you the code (i got them to do that different email to my live account too btw)
Your phone number so they can call back later to check that everything worked well and you dont need anymore help, and also to ask how you rated their service.
I think its just very good customer service on their part. I was very impressed!
I was asked for name, phone number and email. Got the code straight away. Next phone might be a WP7 anyway so no need to tell porkies :/
Hi everyone, I just wanted to tell you my story.
Since zune and windows phone 7 are actually the same department i called the zune support number and was able to talk to someone immediately.
1-877-GET-ZUNE (1-877-438-9863)
TTY (hearing impaired): 1-800-801-1189
Hours of operation:
6:00 a.m. -- 10:00 p.m. PST
I talked to one of the reps who was very nice and he knew exactly what i was talking about when i asked for the activation code. He asked for my name, phone number, email address and I gave him my real info.
But then he asked for an IMEI number... I didnt want to give it to him because i thought they might not help if they found that it was invalid for an HD7.
anyways he insisted so i decided to be honest and i gave him the IMEI from behind my battery on my HD2. After a few minutes he gave me an activation code!
No need to lie!
This is actually the second time i've gotten one too as i lost the first one i got haha.
Depends on the operator, I said that I needed the activation code for my phone running WP7.
She was aware about this and told me that she would need my name phone number and email (but never asked on any information regarding the phone). I agreed but she actually forget to ask me my email. She gave me my activation code few seconds later.
Now before you read this its not a hack, this is just a legit way and easy way to get a real code.
Since I live abroad and I do not have a microsoft company in my country and helpdesk it is pointless to spend allot of money to call overseas to get a Activation key.
I know there are other like me out there who have the same, or are just to lazy to call helpdesk.
Now if you want to avoid direct contact with Microsoft personal I recommend you mail the helpdesk.
I done this 2 days about and within 8hours I had my activation key ready and my mobile activated.
now how to do.
1. go to http://www.microsoft.com/worldwide/
2. choose your country. (under the tab contact information) in my case Netherlands.
3. Click the given link below.
4. Go to the bottom of the site, and click the link Contact Us.
5. Click Email Us.
6. Click Product Sales & General Inquiries
7. Click Product sales and licensing
Attention!
Use a false name!
Same goes for a false Email addres. I recommend you creat a second Live ID, Activation code's given are not linked to that Live ID.
8. Fill in forms.
9. In the commentary box at the bottom of the site, you should wright something concerning about the activation code. That you lost it, you got the phone, a HD7! not a HD2! as a present.
By all excitement you left the box unatended, while you were out for charge ing your phone and preparing it for first use.
The dogs nicked the box from the table destroying all manuals and key codes with in.
10. They will reply and ask for phone numbers and a Live ID.
Give 'm a mobile number, a real mobile number but not yours. Same goes for house phone. I do not know if you can put point 9 and 10 togheter as one.
Go to your countrys yellow page's and choose 2 numbers.
11. They will reply again, with a notification that you may not lose your key again. and ofc. in this mail is your own activation key.
12. be nice and wright a lovely letter in return
I did this 2 days ago.
I had my Code with 8 hours. If you prefer calling then do so. But if you call!
Be prepared they will ask the same things as in point 10. So have already the phone numbers ready and at hand.
Btw, I am just trying to help.

Yes and for Phone model they do not mean your IMEI number.
And do not forgot say you got a HD7. Since DFT cracked the HD7 WP7.
All those things they asked need to be false. I recommend you do that
A quick tip,
If you ever was asked for an HD7 IMEI.

i sent 2 support requests, 1 from the UK and 1 from the US, and both said i need to call (one gave the UK number, and one gave the link to search for a region). looks like im going to have to call them
After 3 times trying to achieve an activation code with MS in the USA with the chat function (3 different BLA-BLA stories...), I've tried this option ... AND IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!
I made up a different story why I lost my code for the imported HTD HD7, got a mail back asking for my Live-ID mail (created a new one just to make sure) and a mobile number (I only gave them a fake one), the same day I got the code by e-mail and now the Marketplace etc. works!

Its also on the box itself. On a white sticker on the bottom. so even if you don't have the warranty card, you should be fine if you have the box.
I took a picture of my serial number and uploaded it to myself via Gmail. That way it's always in my Gmail inbox. All I have to do is type " Tranformer Serial" in my Gmail search box, and it pulls it right up. And its forever stored on Google's Mail server.

I think he said that the sticker came off so this would be pointless. Really the serial number is on the warranty card and the side or bottom of the box too so it doesn't really matter if the sticker fell off anyway.

Not sure what you mean by your post. A little more information would help with someone assisting with your problem. What can you not register? Are you having a problem with registering your device for warranty, registering your device through your carrier to have it listed in your online profile, registering a username on a forum (browser loop/error)? Please provide some additional details. Thank you!
I did make that confusing...trying to register it on the Samsung site with my other devices, But when I put in the imei it won't let me continue.

Ah! Makes more sense now. What error message are you getting after entering the IMEI number and clicking "Submit"? A friend had a similar issue where he was unable to register his product through the Samsung products registration site for updates etc... His emails to their support team went round and round without resolve but in the end, he contacted them by phone and they provided him with quick resolution and stepped him through the process. This may be your best bet and they can be contacted at: 1-888-987-4357.
Hope this helps!

Yes, this was the same problem my friend had. Make sure you enter *#06# from your dialer screen to obtain the correct IMEI a sometimes the boxes will have an incorrect print on the sticker. Make sure you enter the first 15 digits and not the "/" along with the 2 digit number which follows. If this does not work, as suggested, contact Samsung and they will rectify the issue for you.
Hope this helps!

The Samsung Galaxy Gear device/watch does not have an IMEI number. IMEI is specific to wireless devices. The registration forms provided by Samsung are a generic form and not much thought has gone into the coding of this input form for registration. If the device has a serial number, this would be located on the product packaging or on the receipt of purchase. Try entering this but if nothing is available, phone Samsung to advise of your other products and then for the Samsung Galaxy Gear device, they would probably just take your email to inform you of any updates which may come out in future.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the Info.

Hey bud. Use ur Samsung members app (it comes installed already) - live chat. I used it yesterday regarding ny earbuds. They're rather helpful.
The Samsung website promotions page is having errors.
I downloaded the "Shop Samsung" app. Log in and the first part indicated to redeem the galaxy ear buds.
It asked me from where it was purchased and enter the address to get it delivered. After a minute, I got a email it was approved and it was going to be shipped Mar 18. You can even add up to 5 earbuds claim on the same app or phone (by providing the WIFI and MAC address of each separate phone)

Did you ring them? I did and got my concerns answered - I only had a delivery note as proof of delivery and had to login to the website and save that as a pdf to show my pre-order date, i did this as i did not have a receipt as i upgraded over the phone. I also sent screenshot of my imei number, seemed to do the trick as after my explanation was sufficient and the chap double checked my docs and authorised the buds straight away, got confirmation in email shortly after. i range UK number if that helps.
