I had a SGS for 1 year, no cover, no screen protection, no scratches...
My less than 1 month old SGS2 already has a scratch...
Also, too many times for confort I touch one icon, it blinks, but the application doesn open, sometimes another icon works, then the first one works too, other times I have to lock\unlock screen, then all work...
Does this happen to you, or is it a problem of my phone...
I honestly can't believe you'd list a scratch as a problem when it's the user's own fault.
Regarding your other problems i'm not experiencing them on my unit.

If you are using CM7 still I would point to that first off ..
OMG what are you doing to your phone since it's scratched ?
Had mine more than 6 months with no protection what so ever, and not a scratch in the gorilla class. Sure you don't have a cheap replica or something like that?
Mine got two scratches in less than a month despite my treating it exactly the same way as I did my N1. Apart from that I've been very impressed since 2.3.4
Factory reset or re-flash to see if that fixes the app/touch problems.

Gorilla glass is not supposed to scratch under normal use, like with the SGS, I never dropped or hit anything with the SGS2, so yes, it is a problem...

Gorilla glass is what they call scratch resistant, it doesn't mean it's scratch proof.
It will get scratches, but they're much harder to see, and sometimes not even visible when it's not in direct sun light.
So if you put it in pockets with coins or stuff like that, without any protection you'll ask for scratches.
Don't believe those video's you see where they scratch test it, most of them wll get a shock as soon as they step out into the sun light.
Melorib ... The S2 has the same gorilla glass as the SGS as far as I know so any scratches you have encountered is just down to "bad luck".
With regard to the screen sensitivity....its a known issue in the S2. There IS an ever so slight lag compared to the SGS .
Here's what I did. I installed sgs touchscreen booster from the market and set the top 3 values to 0. If u want it less sensitive set these values slightly higher.
I then installed vitallij 's touchscreen tune app and set BLEN value to 90. This gets rid of the very noticeable screen lag when charging.
My phone absolutely flies now while barely touching the keys..great for typing.

I carry my sgs2 with keys in the pocket. In less than two weeks it got a noticeable scratch.
I wouldn't worry too much if it weren't because this my third gorilla glass cellphone and the first one to get a sizeable scratch. Previous phones were motorola defy and lg optimus 2x.
Only the defy had a minor scratch, but it also survived a "small flight" hitting against concrete...
I felt like I should buy an invisible shiled for my sgs2 so I did. It keeps the high contrast screen and is not too bad for touching interference. If only it would reflect sunlight a bit less...
I'm sorry but this complaint is pointless. You don't have to fear keys, screwdrivers or anything massive when dealing with a glass screen: a simole grain of sand (maybe even dust) can scratch a screen when the right pressure is applied. Gorilla glass is just HARDER, it's not less prone to scratches, especially with a layer of oleophobic coating on top. Next time you'll be more careful with your 600€ toy and slap a protector on it

Sure...try using google a little before going naked: glass can get scratched by rough particles of the same material, like sand, and dust is also likely to be sand in smaller grains in many environments, so go figure...
Using Siyah kernel the touchscreen is much more responsive , but the screen is too dark, fix it with CM7 backlight settings...
Has anyone noticed the screen can be scratched relatively easily? I have somehow managed to drop my phone on to the floor once and now the screen has a hairline scratch across the centre. So I'm annoyed. The old note seemed more durable.

It's not a durability thing as much as it's pure luck. No two drops are identical so all those drop tests and stuff are pure crap. Besides, you actually dropped the phone so you can't blame anyone but yourself.

I understand that and know its no one's fault but my own. My old note 1 was subject to a years abuse and had less scratches than the new note 2 has after a week. It just disappointed me a little. I know they aren't invincible but a scratch after a small drop disappointed me a little you know.

All my phones since the Nokia N8 haven't had a single scratch on them. That's why I don't buy screen protectors, they look ugly, they feel different than glass and I just don't like them. I gifted my little brother that N8, then gifted my girlfriend my ex SGSII and she then sold it without scratches, now she owns a SGSIII without scratches. My Note 1 was with me for 5 months and when I sold it had zero scratches.
Now my Galaxy Note 2 has about 2 weeks of use and it already has 2 little tiny scratches on the screen. It doesn't bother me as you can't see them on normal use and just when you look at the glass from one particular angle, but the scratches are there. Very very small, very very light, but is there. I took the same care as with any of my previous phones so my guess is that Samsung used the properties of Gorilla Glass 2 to make the phone thinner and not stronger, and now it scratches more easily. Since those 2 little scratches my Note2 is always on my case now and hasn't developed any extra scratches. But like I said, neither of my previous phones had any scratch at all, the Nokia N8 and SGSII were amazing since I used them a lot and them my brother or my GF kept using them quite a lot and not a single scratch. The Note 1 was with me for just 4-5 months. The Note 2 screen is definitely a bit more prone to scratches.
TL; DR:
The Note 2 screen is more prone to scratches from my POV. Older phones that I had I sold without scratches after more than a year of use. Note 2 is 2-3 weeks old and with 2 almost non noticeable -but existent- scratches.
Gorilla glass two is more harder than gorilla glass 1 and hence more susceptible to dust scratches. No doubt itbwill give u more protection from nails, keys and other metallic stuff but gorilla glasses are not resistant to Scratches caused by dust and G2 is more prone to it. So keep it safe from dust and i would say that its better to get a screen protector than regretting.

This could not be more wrong. GG2 has the same characteristics as GG1 but is 20% thinner. That's supposed to be the innovation here.
It's just a matter of luck. No matter how you try to spin it. If your screen comes in contact with something harder than it is such as sand (not regular dust) then it will get scratched.
http://m.corninggorillaglass.com/smartphone/#_InnovatingWithGorilla
Sand in particular is the weakness of gorilla glass. A single grain of sand floating around in your pocket will cause mayhem with the glass. In fact sand will scratch the glass more than keys or coins will.

Probably have to buy the entire face plate. I would think eBay is your bet for now since the phone me is so new.

Not a chance. Unless you own highly specialised equipment and are highly proficient at changing the glass lens alone, you'll have to replace the entire glass plus display screen plus rim which is costly.
The samoled that Samsung uses has the glass "fused" onto the amoled display screen. This allows the entire screen+glass to become heaps thinner but unfortunately makes it close to impossible to replace the glass alone. Note, it's not impossible but close. Unless you're some sort of phone technician, it'll be impossible

Should be similar. However, it seems that the the S4's SAMOLED display breaks easily due to its size. There are reports of people saying that the display cracked underneath the glass.
I saw the guides before on how to separate the glass lens from the display using a heat gun etc etc but those require extreme skill and time.

Are the scratches on the actual screen surface or on the front lip of the phone? From my experience the front lip area is very sensitive to fine scratches (though not very noticeable) but the screen itself is pretty resistant. This is a bit extreme, but worth checking out too --

That's odd considering the screen doesn't touch a surface when you lay it face down. There are small lips at the top and bottom of the phone to keep the screen slightly elevated. Are you sure it wasn't caused by dust/sand/grit in your pocket?

I too scratched it by putting it face down on a table. The center of the screen touches the surface and it even spins. I got semi-circular scratches on my phone. I never once got scratches on my GS2, so the only explanation is the fact that there is no lip. Today I received a replacement device and sent back the scratched one (Moto has a 14 day exchange policy). Now we know not to put it face down.
I learned my lesson with my Note 2. It was the first phone I didn't put a screen protector on and it was also the last one. I put one on my X before I even powered it on.

I choose not to use a screen protector. What's the point of protecting the glass if you never get to feel how nice it is? There are no screen protectors that offer the same feel as glass with the exception of the steinheil glas.t ones but they have their own set of issues. I haven't used a screen protector on any phone since the EVO 4G and have never gotten any serious scratches. Superficial swirls, yes, but who gives a crap about those? Not I. These are glass screens not plastic, and as such they are very hard to scratch. They don't need screen protectors.

Because who doesn't prefer to have scratches on their screens right? It is not like scratches decrease the value of a phone or anything like that, in fact it makes it look better. Right, so use a crappy protector so the next guy gets to use a perfect screen. I sell all my old devices so I am well aware of how it affects resale value. Are you really going to ugly up your phone for a year or so with a protector just so you can make an extra $50 later on down the road? Or drag your fingers across a ****ty plastic protector vs. nice smooth glass when gaming? Doesn't make any sense to me. It boggles my mind how people scratch their screens so easily. I work in the trades and I always toss my phone in my tool bag with tons of sharp, jagged tools and I don't get any scratches ever. On any phone.

Hint: not everybody considers buying a phone for resale after the new hotness comes along. People who do? Of course they should consider putting on a screen protector and an otterbox.
But people who value ergonomics? Not so much.
FWIW, my last two phones have been case and screen protector free. They've picked up the odd cosmetic ding, but the gorilla glass has been flawless after two years of usage. YMMV.

Hint: Everyone cannot have a smartphone for two years and not use screen protectors without having a scratched up screen. There are no ergonomics to value on a scratched up screen unless one appreciates having their fingers get red or irritated from rubbing it while scrolling, swiping, or playing games.

I removed few scratches from my previous note but never from gorilla glass 4. What I did I masked area and wet sanded scratch out using very fine sand paper (1500, 2000, 3000) with final touch 5000 and polish whole screen using drimel with buffing pad and fine polishing compound. It is time consuming and results depending on your patience. Maybe put screen protector to minimize visibility of scratch and wait until replacement front glass became available - in my opinion is easier to replace glass than remove scratch.
