I'm wanting to install a uot .zip and mod my battery icon but i can't figure out how to install the .zip. On the home screen of safestrap recovery there is an install button but it appears inactive.

Make a new ROM slot. Go to boot options, slot 1, follow the walkthrough, then install the zip

Then do i delete the original rom slot?

Apologies if I didnt find it after searching but:
I was looking to get stock recovery back onto the S4. I know I can Odin back to stock but being that my phone is already set up it would be nice to just flash stock back and be happy
Thanks!

I'd you're wanting to remain rooted, then you will need a custom recovery.

Every rot method I've seen requires installing a custom recovery. Either twrp or cwm.

It's possible to extract the stock recovery from the Odin image and flash it independently. Check it out in this post. Be warned that it's only for AT&T S4's and it's possible to brick your device pretty badly if you flash the recovery to the wrong place.

yes, you will have to use the odin, and then root again. unless you're running a custom rom, then you will have to full wipe your device.

Do a backup and reroot
Have to reroot using PC though? Or is there a way to do it on my phone since it was previously rooted and I have TWRP. Etc.

Yeah you see when you update via OTA it will flash the newer version of the recovery.
You can unlock its screen via volume up and power.
As suggested try using a Toolkit to do it but if that fails then go to the bootloader and flash it manually.

Sprint OTA update and instructions

Must have an untouched system for the patch to work.
If you don't have an untouched system but don't want to erase data follow these steps.
Stock recovery flashes this, so no root needed.
1.Reboot into bootloader
2. Flash the stock system image from the moto x factory restore package(if you don't know what that is go to the development section and find it.
The command to flash just the system image in Fastboot is : fastboot flash system system.img (if you place the system image in the same directory as your Fasboot and adb files.)
3.Reboot into stock recovery find the zip file on your internal storage and flash, will take about a couple of minutes and your done.
This updates, the kernel, baseband, and system files. I am quite sure the camera performance is increased in higher light situations and also noticed better focus.
Credit to magui43212 who provided the file and link.
This patches the root exploit by pwnmymoto. If you want to keep root and be locked, don't update.

Just for reference, us non rooted users can also download the package and flash it by booting into the factory recovery, choosing update from zip, and flashing the zip directly. Any questions, please feel free to ask.

Your not rooted and haven't ever changed recovery? If your in the bootloader and you used the volume down button to highlight recovery and then press the volume up button to select it, you don't boot straight into the recovery?

Q: Anyone know I can root without PC?

NO PC RECOVERY FLASHING METHOD
As always flash at your own risk. I am not responsible for what you do to your device.
So Santod040 took the time to help me figure this out and the method for flashing recovery WITHOUT a PC can be found posted below. Once you have recovery flashed you can root the device.
Update: See this method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=68101276
Make sure to place it on your external SD card and rename it after the flash is completed.

You should be able to install custom recovery TWRP from phone, using I think it's called flashify
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2349847
Then you just download SuperSU and flash in TWRP, I do believe.
I'm on custom ROM, so hopefully others can chime in before you take this advice.

Here's what I zipped up from work, on my device:
Place in root of sd card and follow prompts in download mode to flash it.

Untested, but should work fine.
Disconnecktie may be able to verify soon...
Make sure to remove prefix from filename.
