Sprint OTA update and instructions - Moto X General

Must have an untouched system for the patch to work.
If you don't have an untouched system but don't want to erase data follow these steps.
Stock recovery flashes this, so no root needed.
1.Reboot into bootloader
2. Flash the stock system image from the moto x factory restore package(if you don't know what that is go to the development section and find it.
The command to flash just the system image in Fastboot is : fastboot flash system system.img (if you place the system image in the same directory as your Fasboot and adb files.)
3.Reboot into stock recovery find the zip file on your internal storage and flash, will take about a couple of minutes and your done.
This updates, the kernel, baseband, and system files. I am quite sure the camera performance is increased in higher light situations and also noticed better focus.
Credit to magui43212 who provided the file and link.
This patches the root exploit by pwnmymoto. If you want to keep root and be locked, don't update.

Just for reference, us non rooted users can also download the package and flash it by booting into the factory recovery, choosing update from zip, and flashing the zip directly. Any questions, please feel free to ask.

The number is incorrect, I think it's named that because that's the system it patches. This is definitely confirmed 139.14.1.

Haven't gotten the phone yet. Will the moto X immediately ask you to take the OTA straight out of the box ?

No its "rolling out" but very slowly. More like trickling out.

Your not rooted and haven't ever changed recovery? If your in the bootloader and you used the volume down button to highlight recovery and then press the volume up button to select it, you don't boot straight into the recovery?

It's possible to extract the stock recovery from the Odin image and flash it independently. Check it out in this post. Be warned that it's only for AT&T S4's and it's possible to brick your device pretty badly if you flash the recovery to the wrong place.

Have to reroot using PC though? Or is there a way to do it on my phone since it was previously rooted and I have TWRP. Etc.

Yeah you see when you update via OTA it will flash the newer version of the recovery.
You can unlock its screen via volume up and power.
As suggested try using a Toolkit to do it but if that fails then go to the bootloader and flash it manually.

Error on Install of Kit Kat 4.4

Hi guys. I'm having trouble installing Kit Kat via OTA. I haven't received the notification that it was ready but when I clicked Check now in System updates yesterday, it popped up but it said it was only available through WiFi until today. Now my WiFi connection is slow so I manually changed the date in order to download it through 4G LTE. After it downloaded, I hit the Reboot and Install button and it went into Recovery to install only to stop about halfway through and change the Android from standing up to laying down with a Red Triangle above his stomach and it said Error. I rebooted my phone and was back to where I was on 4.3 so I proceeded to try and download the update again this time the date went ahead another day (27th) and again only through WiFi until then, so anyway I tried again and still the same error. I'm on Stock 4.3 with Stock Recovery, unlocked Bootloader and Rooted. Note that I was on the latest TWRP but I flashed the Stock Recovery from the thread that says how to get back to stock everything before attempting this. Any help will do, thanks.

Any easy way to install twrp?

I am aware of the guides the nice people have come up with but is there an easier way such as an application? I remember, before I flashed back firmware, it was ten times easier and required no adb or commands on my end. I also flashed it over CWM which I had at the time.
Thanks.

What ROM are you currently on? Are you rooted? If on a Jellybean ROM and rooted just use Freegee from the market to install latest TWRP or Cwm instantly with no fuss. If you are on a KitKat ROM you need to downgrade which can be a long process.

Back up EFS, and then back THAT up to your computer. THEN proceed to whatever it is you rooted for.
Definitely back efs up
