Most of all Custom Roms give me those errors... - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would post the picture here but i'm not allowed the error msg i get is
pkg:data/local/tmp/xxx.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INVALID_INSTALL_LOCATION]
it happens on like 50% of my kairosoft games the other 50% goes into same directory but installs sucessfully ....
I tried to install them via Nexus 7 toolkit and direct from internal sd card with file managers (The Nexus 7 Toolkit shows me atleast the error all file managers just tell me can't install) and this problem only happens with Custom Roms on Stock i can install them without any issues..
If anyone got a clue ....

help installing modacos rom

hey i just got my galaxy S im in the us on att, its currently on firmware xxjf3. so far i've rooted the phone. i'm trying to install modacos rom but he's stated several times you have to be on jg1 firmware. i downloaded the firmware and renamed the "jg1.zip" file to "update.zip" and tried to flash from sd card but it gives me an error. have a missed an obvious step here?
To flash official firmware you need to use odin. There is a video guide showing how to do it on the madoco galaxy s forums and I believe that someone linked them here as well.
yeah i just realized that, im on mac but im running bootcamp which lets me boot onto a partition of windows 7
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpWcM44On88
this is the tutorial i just tried using but where it says port 7 for him it says port 4 for me when i hit start the loading bar never seems to appear.
its okay, mine says 4, and my other computer says 6, im not sure why, but it doesnt effect anything.. do you have the pit file included? and you put the CODE file in the PDA part? if its not flashing, then try adding in one of the CSC files included, if it doesnt recognize the first CSC file, try the second one. i had a similar issue, i used the smaller CSC file (i believe it was around 1mb), and it should work correctly.
and btw, when you put the update file on the phones internal memory, make sure it reads 'update' dont add the .zip at the end, it already is a zip file, adding the .zip would make it .zip.zip and it wont work. and another thing, when he says "sd card" it means internal phone memory, so you can either transfer it from your microSD card to the phones internal memory thru the built in filemanager in the phone.
heres a detailed tut on using odin3 including download links

awesome got it, running r2 now, its cool nice and fast. thanks

Try downloading a fresh build. Rather than extract in pc and then copying it over, try extracting directly in the root of the sd card with the path intact (meaning for most recent builds it should extract into /sdcard/Android. There used to be some problems with dragging folders in the very early builds.

Alrighty thanks i will try that
Start from scratch. Flash a new radio and a rom. Then format your SD card and then extract a build to the card. Be sure to follow each build's instrucions. Some you put the android folder in root, some all files are in root by themselves.
Also SEARCH and read as much as you can.
Thanks alot ... about the custom rom :
1) what custom rom looks the sames or very similar as stock but has the speed and responsiveness of a custom rom. I really like the look of stock i dont like nothing flashy or anything...
2)Lets say my phone gets damaged, while exchanging the phone will t-mo notice that its been flashed if i hard reset the phone?
3)Is it permanet or is there a way to go all the way back to factory shipped status...

In each rom thread they will describe the goal of the rom. They will explicitly state if the goal is to look stock. I use energy roms and he offers several versions including a stock looking rom.
To load a custom rom you will need to flash HSPL. This can be removed to be back to stock for warranty service but not via a hard reset. Removing HSPL involves installing the original SPL via an SD card.
There is always the option to go back to factory conditions.

[Q] HD2 + Android V2.3 - where have I gone wrong?

Morning All
After having lived with winmo for 17 months and becoming jealous of my wifes new desire, I had a go at installing Android (SD) following the instructions I found exactly.
Installed EBL2.1a._plusubuntu.cab to device
Installed MsKip_Android_Loader V6 Final.cab fine
Then extracted copeNwarren_030511 and copied it to my freshly formatted 16Gb microSD in to a folder called "Android".
Entered Andriod Loader and pointed it at my Android folder and then hit the Load button and selected Android, which it (eventually) ran and it worked fine (managed to log in to FB, google account, and tried to download some apps from Marketplace - which downloaded but wouldnt run). So I then restarted . . . . and things went wrong.
My boot loader doesnt work any more and simply says that "file cannot be opened. either it is not signed with a trusted certificate . . . "
Tried re-installing - wouldnt run for the same reason. Tried un-installing and says it could not completely remove it.
Then I read that I needed to crack my phone with HSPL. I had 3.03 and used HSPL to go back to 2.08. None of which worked.
WinMo is working fine - except that the screen after 0.5secs of inactivity goes into energy saver mode which is annoying as hell!
Have decided that I would ideally like Win7 and Android dual booting off 16Gb SD and have the option of original winmo6.5.3 still on the device.
Could anyone point me in the right direction!?!?
Thanks in advance.
K

Can't write to the nexus 7 internal

For some reason I cannot move files via Windows 7 file explorer to the Nexus. I can and have done this on every other mobile device that I've had before. What's the difference? Why can't I place pics and videos on it?
A few more details would be super helpful to give you a good answer. Start with if you are running a custom ROM and what if anything you have tried to solve the problem.
When you plug in your usb look under settings - storage and see if there is the option to mount storage.

Read twice, flash once
For some reason, now it's letting me even though I didn't change anything. Mods can delete this if they want. And thank you ezas for your reply.
Glad you got it sorted out.

In my limited experience using MTP (rooted stock N7 4.2.2 + Win 7 x64), what seems to work well is:
- copying files FROM the N7 which were already in the /sdcard mount point when the N7 last booted,
- copying files TO the N7 into a folder which already existed inside the /sdcard mount point when the N7 last booted.
(I should also point out that moving files this way seems to be 5-7 times faster than using "adb push" or "adb pull")
What seems to only work sporadically is trying to copy or write to things which were "recently created" in the /sdcard mount point. For instance, if you generate a large set of files using Android, you won't be able to find them from the PC until a seemingly random ? amount of time later. Similarly, if you create a folder on the N7 (let's say by using a file manager) with the intent of pushing some files there from the PC, you won't see that folder show up in a reasonable amount of time.
This behavior actually does make sense - in principle, it is impossible to allow instantaneous write access to a file system from two independent hosts without running risks of filesystem corruption. In previous versions of Android, external SD cards could be accessed using USB Mass Storage drivers, but only exclusively by either the Android device or the PC - never at the same time. The SD card had to be unmounted from Android in order to be seen by the PC.
But, what is curious is the delays involved. I wanted to do something similar to this the other day (copying a nandroid backup from the PC to a "new" folder on the N7), and thought that by correctly disconnecting from the PC followed by reconnecting to the PC would allow the newly-created folder to "show up" via MTP on the PC. No such luck however; I needed to reboot the N7 for that to happen.
Bottom line is that MTP will work (and quickly, too! - better than 10 MB/sec) - but only with the above limitations in mind. When in doubt, reboot the N7.

Stop panicking, you'll struggle to brick your phone. You can't use ROM Manager with MAGLDR, it doesn't work. First reflash CWM via USB Flasher mode in MAGLDR, that should fix AD Recovery. In fact, with the HD2 NEVER use any apps from Android that flash things, the HD2 isn't a native android phone and the vast majority of them don't work at all. Do everything manually, it will save you a lot of trouble. Boot into CWM and use the partition tool there to select a 1024 MB EXT 3/4 partition with 0 MB swap. Flash the ROM's .zip in CWM from your SD card. The guide in my sig goes into much more detail than above, use that if you need any more help.
thank.. but one more pls

As of now there's no publicly available Windows Phone 8 ROM but @Cotulla has shown that it's possible to boot Windows 8 RT and WP8 on the HD2. Don't hold your breath though, those screenshots surfaced (no pun intended) months ago and nothing much has changed since then.
You can dual boot Android with WinMo 6.5 or with WP7. Check out the guides in @mengfei 's signature for information on that.

you can always search in xda. what do you mean by windows 8? windows PHONE 7.8???? or windows phone 8?? or windows RT????? you could provide more details.
if it's windows phone 7.8, you will lose everything you have on nand and sd.
if it's windows phone 8 that you want, or windows RT, then it's not possible. there is no such thing as windows phone 8 or RT available to public on the hd2.
do you mean windows 8? then you have a lot to learn until you realize it's impossible
