This happened on the vibrant and now happens on nexus s. When changing from GSM auto Orlando to wvdma preferred, it automatically resets back. Anyway around it?

Bump........
Is there a way to force the phone to go LTE only no 3G? I dont see an option for it in the settings. I live in a 4G area and with my thunderbolt it ALWAYS was 4G but my M bounces back and forth, but if I put it in Airplane mode and then take it out it will connect to 4G.

go setting and add 4G to the notification bar, there you can choose the one you prefer.
You can do it without the app....open your dialer type*#*#info#*#*
A menu should come up choose phone options, there you will find the radio options. You can pick lte only.

Well both those get to the right spot, but there is no selection for what I am trying to accomplish. On LTE only it won't make calls or send texts. I assume bc LTE is only data. What I want to eliminate is 3G while having voice service forcing the phone to only connect to LTE for data. Is that even possible?
I think if you go to the phone testing menu(*#*#info#*#* in dialer)you should be able to select lte/CDMA only.

That would work if "LTE/CDMA" was an option. the options are LTE/CDMA/EvDo LTE/GSM/WCDMA LTE/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDM LTE only and LTE/WCDMA,
Sorry I see that now. I was trying to help you off my memory. Should have done my own research. It seems that should be an option to choose. There has to be a way, we will have to find it

Hady nexus two days. Noticed when I was in the middle of a call I tried using Google maps to locate a place. Maps said I need a data connection. I did also notice next toy signal icon the data sign was gone and a phone icon was next to it. I came from the sgs3 on Tmobile. Is there a setting or an APN that needs to be set? I was in a 3g/hspa+ are. Am on latest 4.2.2 update.

Yep.maybe it was the area. I started the call in a big stretch of the interstate that is only 2g. When I tried using maps. I was in the 4g area but maybe the towers hadn't switched over?

yeah, only happens when you are on 2G... can't have phone and data simultaneously

Correct, data disconnects as soon as you use voice on 2g.
That's what I was thinking but was going to be dissapointed if this phone didn't actually have that basic functionality of a smart phone. Lol.

Im running cm 10.1.2 it works great I live were tmobile has lte. so I flash LTE radio and that works great. my apn is tmobel us LTE and my preferred network mode is lte/gsm/wcdma. Sometimes when I drive outside lte coverage zone or in on a weak spot my preferred network mode will change to csm/wcdma. Is this normal? I was driving and I just lost signal the other day Im guessing this is why. I got a screen shot of a app that shows I get lte or hspap with lte/gsm/wcdma. Should I not get both hspap and lte with this setting. Im guessing the phone could not get lte so it changed the profile? Can it do that?. When I was out of the coverage area tried to change it back to let/gsm/wcdma but it defaulted to csm/wcdma.. On reboot it defaults to lte/gsm/wcdma. so i know its working thanks for reading my thread.
I'm pretty sure that is normal. My phone does the same.

So when your phone changes profile when it gose into a lte zone dose it drops signal or any thing?
I want to say mind dose for a second as the profile changes then if I go back into a LTE zone it will change back. But im not sure as I have only been running this build for a few days and I mostly stay in a LTE zone.
Yes basically disconnects for a sec then changes.

Just wondering why that is? does lte/gsm/wcdma not support hspap? Because my app screen shot told me on that profile i get hspap and lte .
I'm not really sure. But I do not understand why the nexus 4 handles this Network change so slowly. It's annoying at times.

This is useful if you have a weak LTE signal or just don't need it always on. I found this tutorial on a different website for another galaxy phone and it works on the Note 3.
1. Turn off your phone and take out your sim card.
2. Turn on your phone with no sim card and wait a minute or two for it to turn on and settle down.
3. Go to the dialer and dial *#2263#
You should see a menu with band selections. The current setting is "Automatic".
(You have to use the menu key to select your options by using "Key Input" to type the number you want)
If you switch to "GSM All", you will be EDGE (2G).
If you switch to "WCDMA All", you will be on HSPA+ (3G, though AT&T and others call it 4G).
4) Power off the phone again and put your sim card back. Upon reboot you should see your new setting in effect.
I get a service mode that says rat selection is restricted...
However *#*#4636#*#* will allow you to select whatever band you so choose. Although lte only doesn't allow voice calls

If your sim card is out when trying to access the menu it shouldn't say restricted.

I tried the above on my S4 and couldn't get LTE back was stuck on wcdma preferred. Google resulted in a ton of information. Ultimately hard reset needed.

Thank you inmotion! This code actually worked better for me on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I didn't even have to pull out my SIM card or reboot. Just dial in the code, go to Device Info and change the preferred radio network type. It changes the radio on the fly in real time, and can be seen at the top.
Since Android 4.3 and on the option to disable LTE/4G has been removed from all AT&T Android devices.

Actually it was before that. Could not do it on my note 1. Would always get RAT restricted. This was on at&t. Other networks were able to use those codes and make the switch.

1. Download the free Phone info app from the Google Play Store and install it
2. Choose the Phone Information tab and notice the "Set preferred network type" option at the bottom, marked with an arrow at the right of the drop-down menu
3. Tap on the preferred network listing currently in use, and choose the "CDMA auto (PRL)" option from the drop-down list
4. You should be now maintaining connection to only Verizon's 3G network, and whenever you need to use data, you can switch back to LTE for the duration of it
There are numerous other apps and widgets at the Play Store that claim to do the 2G/3G/4G switch, but many users on Verizon have confirmed the Phone info app to be the only method allowing them to reliably turn off the 4G LTE on their Samsung Galaxy S IIIs.
why would people want to disable LTE? (real question)
