This happened on the vibrant and now happens on nexus s. When changing from GSM auto Orlando to wvdma preferred, it automatically resets back. Anyway around it?

Just got my nexus 4 yesterday. Love it. But the phone is jumping wildly between 3g and hspa+ in a service area that my note 2 had no trouble holding a 4g signal. wondering if this is a Sim card issue, or if anyone else is having similar problems?
Yes, that is how its supposed to work. Carrier branded phone just don't show the change in the status bar. It is functioning the exact same way.
Nothing to worry about.
Just a heads up, the N4 doesn't show a H+ logo but just the H.
Dial *#*#4636#*#* and make sure your network says HSPAP

It's jumping between hspap and umts. Driving me nuts!
It will only switch to HSPAP when needed otherwise it will stay on umts in order to save battery life. No worries this is normal

Your note 2 is doing the exact same thing. All gsm phones do this. It idles on 3g and when data is called it switches to hspa.

T-Mobile makes the icon for both UMTS and HSPA+ the same icon that's why do you not see it change. Google makes the icons the way the network mode is.
That makes sense! Thanks so much for the help.
Hopefully someone can help. Every time I reboot my phone, it resets from lte/gsm auto back to wdcma preferred. How do I get it to keep the setting?

I researched this last night. It's completely normal for the device to default back to wcdma preferred. A work around is use the app called "phone info" which is a shortcut to the settings - use it after a reboot instead of the dial screen method.

info about my phone:
baseband: .33 right now
ROM: this one at the moment.
also tried this one, this one, and this one
also, its the new white nexus
what I've done so far:
I've tried this on the .33 baseband.
I then found these two zips (1 and 2) to help automate the process a bit, and use those to try baseband .24 and .27 with no change.
then I tried the instructions on this site
and finally, I am now on this rom I mentioned above, which is supposed to have everything done already...
I Know for a fact my area has LTE, as my roommate gets 4G on his S3 every day.
does anyone see anything I might be doing wrong?
Is your roommate using LTE with T-Mobile?
Nexus 4 only supports LTE band 4.

are you sure that your roommate has an lte enabled sgs3? the tmo lte enabled sgs3 only went on sale on june 5th.

did you update the APN to fast.t-mobile.com? I can't tell in specific so ill just give you a quick run down.
On multiple devices i've done:
1) flash broadband
2) clear caches/factor reset
3) flash AOKP (or CM 10.1)/GAPPS and clear caches
4) flash franco kernel (not necessary but i prefer it) and clear caches.
5) update APNs
6) change to LTE/GSM in phone info settings.

I have done all of this. I have the T-Mobile lte APN with IPv4/IPv6. I have also tried just IPv4 or IPv6.
O have also tried creating a new APN with the correct settings
Edit: the settings in the *#*#INFO#*#* menu is LTE/GSM auto (PRL)

well, most of houston has lte http://ltemap.org/tmobile . did you change the phone info to lte/gsm by dialing *#*#4636#*#* in the phone app? select phone info, change the wcdma preferred to lte only. if you see the 4G icon show up, change the lte only to lte/gsm.

Im running cm 10.1.2 it works great I live were tmobile has lte. so I flash LTE radio and that works great. my apn is tmobel us LTE and my preferred network mode is lte/gsm/wcdma. Sometimes when I drive outside lte coverage zone or in on a weak spot my preferred network mode will change to csm/wcdma. Is this normal? I was driving and I just lost signal the other day Im guessing this is why. I got a screen shot of a app that shows I get lte or hspap with lte/gsm/wcdma. Should I not get both hspap and lte with this setting. Im guessing the phone could not get lte so it changed the profile? Can it do that?. When I was out of the coverage area tried to change it back to let/gsm/wcdma but it defaulted to csm/wcdma.. On reboot it defaults to lte/gsm/wcdma. so i know its working thanks for reading my thread.
I'm pretty sure that is normal. My phone does the same.

So when your phone changes profile when it gose into a lte zone dose it drops signal or any thing?
I want to say mind dose for a second as the profile changes then if I go back into a LTE zone it will change back. But im not sure as I have only been running this build for a few days and I mostly stay in a LTE zone.
Yes basically disconnects for a sec then changes.

Just wondering why that is? does lte/gsm/wcdma not support hspap? Because my app screen shot told me on that profile i get hspap and lte .
I'm not really sure. But I do not understand why the nexus 4 handles this Network change so slowly. It's annoying at times.

Hello everybody, I live in Italy, returning from a holiday in the US* I bought a nexus 4 from the United States for $ 249, but I have some problems. I noticed that when I'm at home or at the University, the phone has network issues, and I thought it was a problem of compatibility between the American network and the Italian network. Today I noticed that my friend had a gnexus, and in the same place where my nexus 4 shall not had the network , the gnexus could to have network coverage, having also the same telephone operator. Then I typed on the keyboard of both*#*# 4636#*#* to check if everything was set in the same way, and it was. I can not understand why my nexus 4 has difficulty finding the network coverage. I will load some screenshots from gnexus and nexus 4 carried out in the same place. I noticed also a thing, when reloading my n4 with the google orb, in the morning the charge of the phone has never 100% but always around the 97%, because during the night, once arrived to 100% charging goes off, what is the problem ? Thank you very much in advance

I had similar issues; I guess you had upgraded to 4.3 version and this is a known bug. After going through various articles, I was able to find quick fix for my phone by changing default parameters to "WCDMA only" from select preferred network type. I feel the radio signals are much better than default settings after using this tweak.
PS: You have to redo this procedure when ever you reboot your phone unless you want to root & go back to original factory build of 4.2.2. There are lot of threads dedicated to this.
I will try WCDMA only and see if it goes better! Tanks a lots!
