Annoying scuffs on screen protector GONE - Galaxy Note II General

I recently switched from an anti-glare screen protector on my N7100 to an Invisible shield HD from Zagg. Earlier today, I some how managed to get a 3" scuff vertically on my screen today and have been trying to get rid of it with various products. I tried good old soap and water, with no luck. Invisible glass (no ammonia) with no luck. I pulled out a magic eraser and sprayed invisible glass on it, and gently started rubbing the screen. 3-4 seconds later, it was gone.
I know it's annoying getting scuffs and scratches on a screen and just have to put up with it. This method may or may not work for you but I had no problem removing the scuff!

Can you be more specific on what you mean by "magic erase"?
Thanks for the heads up!

Typo!! Meant magic eraser, the one made by Mr. Clean.

Screen scratch removal (success!)

As many know the Gorilla glass is far from scratch proof. I myself has a 3mm long scratch on my screen which really ruined the phone for me.
Using Cerium Oxide paste and a Dremel that was locked (so it didnt rotate) and a polishing wheel i have successfully removed the scratch by rubbing the paste over the scratch in circular movements. It took ages because i didnt press too hard, but the result is no more scratch!
Its worth a try if you have an annoying scratch. Cerium Oxide can be bough on eBay quite cheaply.
The scratch itself is mostly still there, but the Cerium has polished the edges so smooth that it is optically transparent now, so i cant see it with the screen on. Before it was clearly visible as a rainbow effect.
Use a screen protector and save yourself the grief

Glad you got the scratch out, but must agree I use a screen protector

Scratch occurred on day 2 after launch. There were no screen protectors...
LOL same here, my streak snuck out of the shallow pocket of my jeans when I was in the garden a couple of days after I got it.. landed in a pile of sharp rocks thankfully it only got a couple of small scratches on the plastic top and bottom, when I finished shouting I banished the offending jeans with small pockets.

Do you use a screen protector for your note?

I have a screen protector currently, but I'm thinking of taking it off.
What do you guys think? Are you folks using a screen protector?
I don't use screen protector because I want the best touch experience
I never used one on my DHD and I don't use one on my Note either.
I sure use one.
Recently I had a clean slice on my screen and I was worried that the cut might be deep enough to have gone through the screen protector and scratched my screen. So I took the protector off and thankfully the screen protector was enough to stop the scratch.
So it has it uses.
Putting a screen protector is a nightmare though because of dust particles, so whenever I want to put a screen protector on I view the screen under light at an angle to see if there is any dust particles on the screen. That way I can see even the "smallest" dust particle. So whenever I place a screen protector I take about 30 to 40 mins to put one on my Note. Also it's not like I change screen protector like a baby's dippers. The current one will be on there pretty much forever unless something like a scratch happens that will force me replace it. Otherwise it's pretty much a one time thing.
My screen protectors are very good quality ones.

I am using SGP Ultra Optics, touch is fine, just finger prints are still there.
I've had my Note for over six months without a screen protector, just a gel case, and not a mark on it. Whenever it's in a pocket it never shares space with anything else that might harm it such as coins or keys.
I didn't protect my ZTE Blade before it, my MDA Vario before that, or any other phone I've owned. I don't put protectors on the display of any of my several cameras, and none of those have suffered as a result either. The only device I've ever applied a screen protector to was my Palm Tungsten T3, and with the flip cover for that, that was probably the most unnecessary application of a protector to any device I've ever owned.
Never.
Hate them.
brought my first screen protector the other day, put it on and that night i was going for a run and my note fell out of my pocket and went across the road for 5 meters, screen protector saved my phone.
I used to but I don't anymore. My note fell any the screen broke so I had to get a new one. Now I don't use a screen protector but I use seidio gel protector. I like it better like this.
Zag is the best.

Normally I kinda dislike screen protectors on touchscreens but after I got tiny scratches on my display I put a screen protector and hey, this wasn't that bad. I got used to it and now I can't imagine a screen without it.
It let me to be more careless with my Note.

Im using in every phone, that i have,a screen protector.
I always using thin screen protectors and until now i never had any touch problems, only fingers prints and i wipe them off
If you touch to put a screen protector, choose a thin one
Bought 2x sgp ultra. Tried in vain to fit them on the phone but found it impossible to do so without getting dust trapped.
So I threw them both away, and looking back, I'm glad I did.
I just keep it in one pocket and don't put anything else in there with it.

So you are saying you never have dust or sand particles in your pockets as those bastards are the ones scratching the screens. Keys or coins won't do it as they're softer than your phone's screen.
E: I am using a cheapo screen protector (7,99€ for two) and it does not affect the user experience at all.
I dropped my note face down on the concrete twice from my jacket pocket. No scratch. I'm not using a screen protector.

I just took off my screen protector and now it feels really good.. Galaxy note's screen is one of its USP's and it needs to be felt raw not with a layer on it.
I know that the Note has a Gorilla Glass but I still use a screen protector on mine. It's probably just paranoia but hey, better be safe than sorry since at the end of the day, I did spend quite a bit on the phone

I'm using the same and got like two or three bubbles but not on screen, more on the border of the screen. I like the protector alot. As far as for me I can't notice any difference with or without.
I always use a screen protector just because I'm paranoid

I have two small children and because of that I spend some time in sand boxes. That sand is the worst when comes to making tiny scratches. I bought a copter shield a couple of weeks after getting the note due to scratches starting to emerge. I also made a deeper scratch with the help of a zipper, (which is embarresing since im closely related to the inventor of the zipper ).
I do have the feeling that the "Note" is a bit more sensitive than other gorilla glass endowed phones. Maybe it has a coating that scratches more easily or something...

I somehow managed to scratch the screen

I can't believe it, of all the devices I have had I have never scratched a screen before.
I have had the my Nexus 7 for only a week and a half and I somehow managed to put a scratch on the screen.
I don't even know when or how I would have done it because I have been crazy careful with it.
So angry at myself!
Can scratches be fixed at all? I know they probably can't but I am just throwing it out there
I am going to go mourn my poor Nexus 7...
Bummer, I have diminished to the point of being unnoticeable minor scratches with a grease pencil, rub it into the scratch and use a soft cloth to remove the excess and polish the crack. I have done this with phones, monitors and eyeglasses with great success as long as it is not too deep.
XO Skin screen protectors say they will fill in previous scratches, but then you have to use a screen protector.
You could either use a screen protector to hide the scratch or get the scratch removal stuff for eye glasses (Don't know if it will work but I guess it's worth a try).
I will look into all these fixes.
I'm already planning to head to staples to see about the grease pencil fix.
Definitely getting a screen protector. At least until I can get a case.
Thanks for the replies guys!
Will update once i try the fixes

well so far I have tried the grease pencil/china marker.
It was a no go. I think perhaps that the scratch is actually a little to deep.
Unless I didn't do it correctly. I might give it another go.
I basically just ran the pencil over the scratched area filling it in. Then using a circular motion I buffed it off.
Scratched still remained and was perfectly visible.
Next thing will be to try a screen protector. I am definitely putting one on as I am not taking the chance of scratching it further.
I doubt you will find a way to remove a scratch as they are pretty much permanent. Just throw as screen protector on it and call it a day. I'm not a fan of screen protectors but since the Nexus Seven display isn't Gorilla Glass I'm not talking any chances.

apply a screen protector WITHOUT trapping dust underneath?

so I just got my new s4 otterbox defender, it comes with a built in screen protector. I want to make the screen 100% clear of any dust, and get the screen protector on perfectly, so I don't see trapped dust under the screen protector..
how the heck do you do that? ! I tried microfiber and a 100% silk tie to wipe the screen and screen protector, but both left slight residue. I'm at a total loss.. anyone know of a way to wipe down a screen without adding to the problem ?
fun fact, I didn't open my s4 till I got my otterbox defender, used rubber gloves on a freshly certain wrapped desk, and put the phone right into the case. I can absolutely confirm the phone screen comes with imperfections and small micro scratches on the glass. mostly invisible to the naked eye, but it makes me wonder how they get their in the first place? noticed this on all 3 s4's my family got.

I had my phone for a few days with no screen protector, and when it was time to apply, the screen looked 99% pristine, just a single scratch made by me. Not sure what you are seeing as "imperfections".
Anyway, to your question. I never used Otterbox Defender. Do you still stick the protector to the screen? Or it is attached to outside frame? If the latter, then I bet dust will accumulate under it with time any way. If the former, you can follow multiple youtube instructions on how to get rid of dust/bubbles.
I did wipe my phone with rubbing alcohol (90%, not the green but clear) to get rid of dust and smudges before sticking on the protector, it worked perfectly. I then used scotch tape to remove dust particles that floated in from the air.
How do you like this particular otterbox?
Otterboxes trap dirt underneath the built in screen bad. If you want it to be clear of dust take off the Otterbox and remove the screen it came with. Then put on something like the zagg protector and put it back on. Otherwise wipe down the screen with a cloth and then run scotch tape across the top to grab the dust specks left behind, works great before applying a screen protector.

If your really neurotic... go into the bathroom, turn the shower on nice and hot, close the door, wait a couple of minutes and then go through the steps of applying the screen protector. The steam will settle and airborne particulates. (Also a handy trick for those home HD repairs  )

yea the shower trick works or u can get a better screen protector: sgp olephobic...i had to swap my s4 and i peeled it off and put it on the new one in the store and no bubbles/dust...and its veryy thin

This x1000
Put an xtremeguard on mine front and back, and it is BEAUTIFUL. Nothing trapped underneath. Plus a hair dryer on the corners of the back.
dang these are some solid tips!
I think I'll try the steamy bathroom with scotch tape
as for alcohol, I don't know what kind of material or fabric to use, as cotton balls left cotton residue, like everything else =/
as for the case, having used the s3 defender, I'm very pleased! it's much slimmer and easier to hold. the gap between the screen and screen protector is like glue, I actually see oil-looking colorful patterns between the screen and protector as I move my thumb around the screen. not sure what to make of it, but it's as tight as stretching a piece of cellophane wrap tightly around the screen.
the case is much slimmer, and less bulky than the s3's. less barrel all around and a notable redesign of the case and hard cradle case. the hard cradle case adds little to no additional bulk unlike the s3, and it doesn't block volume toggling anymore.
also as asked before, all sensors still work perfectly, including IR blaster and gestures.
DRY APPLICATION ONLY.
All you have to do. Apply screen protector to fit cut outs correctly. Doesnt matter if bubbles dust or lint is there. Get scotch tape. One to lift up screen protector. Another piece to pick up the dirt either facing up or down depending where the dirt is stuck to (glass or screen protector). It will Not affect quality as long as you use Scotch tape. Surprised many aren't aware of this. BTW this is for dry applications, I stay away from wet applications. End result, if you get a nice ultra clear screen protector, you won't even notice theres a screen protector.

Anyone else having problem finding screen protector

I used armorsuit wet install. No problems so far. Only on day 3. A tip I've learned that I use to this day, take all ur tools into the bathroom with u. Take a hot shower. Then replace or install the screen protector. The steam creates an atmosphere with no floating dust particles. For the armorsuit, I lightly sprayed the phone, sprayed my fingers, sprayed the film protector. I applied it where I wanted it. I use a rubber squeegee, and with one swipe 90% of the liquid was out. Then I start to smooth the edges. Get a blow dryer and make light passes at the phone. Keep at it for a minute or so and done. Let it sit on a table overnight and when u wake up, looks perfect.
I really want a glass protector, in fact ordered 3 different ones, however I'm hesitant from all the horror stories I read about the ones for the s6 edge.
Anyway, good luck.
BTW, Amazon has the armorsuit for under $10.
i agree with the armorsuit since noone has a legit glass protector yet. i do my installation in the bathroom too.but i do mine on the sink with hot water on. thought i would have issues cause the edges were lifting but i guess it was just the excess liquid. after few minutes pressed the edges down and they stayed down. didnt even use blow dryer. waiting for skinomi version which is supposed to be full body. front, back and sides.. i mostly use a case but still too pretty i dont want any scratches lol
I've always applied mine in the bathroom with the hot shower running.
I did purchase a TPU case but it made the screen look horrible (bubbles, rainbows, scratches, etc) so I took it off straight away.
The Skinomi TechSkin looks great with some great reviews so I think I will go for that one for now.
