Is there a good way to deal with lags, i.e. to find what exactly causes particular lag and then eliminate it?
If this can be done ,no lags will exist in Android. The question is difficult to answer and is not as easy as you think.

I guess so. But are there no general guidelines? No point to start from? I guess there must be some roughly determined way to identify what causes given lag.
If there would be an algorithm on how to deal with lags, then there would be almost no lags in Android. I do agree with that.
V6 supercharger, Kick ass Kernelizer and other tweaks will help even out lag- but it will always be a problem on any computing system, if this was a quadcore 2ghz phone with mali-t604 gpus in SLI running android 4.2.1 im sure it would be okay
These solutions depend on specific problems. Many things can cause lags

Limiting background processes to 2 and slight over clocking works for me

my understanding is, you are looking for a stepbystep guide what to check to find the cause of a lag.
maybe:
- check memory usage
- check cpu usage (i.e. with os monitor)
- delete/freeze app that has a huge amount of usage...
something like that? i'm no pro, so its just what logic tells me...

It works (at least for my eyes). Even the slight lag I'd experienced seems to be gone, and my Gnote feels snappier than before. Could be subjective but I'm happy with it.

Many thanks mate.
Made a noticeable bump in speed for me. Excellent!
Thanks for the app, sometimes I just felt it's a shame that you have to download a third party app to boost up the phone or do anything normally which the every smartphones must have when it born. This is why everyone is rooting as stock rom sucks?
Thanks for the find robdee102.
Are there any other settings we can change to increase the speed of the phone?
The device doesnt get any faster, its deception. The length of the animated transition equals about the time needed for the application to load. Turning off the animation or setting it to happen faster only results in the animation being finished before the app's interface is fully loaded and the user looking at a blank black or white screen for a split second... Because the zoom or swipe effect happens faster one gets the feeling the device actually being faster; which in reality it isn't.
Thanks for listening. My 2¢.

Yeah, there's DEFINATELY a difference, it feels more responsive, going through menus, etc...
I'm not denying it feels quicker. On the contrary. But because everyone around you suddenly walks slow doesnt make you walk any quicker ;-)
It was very noticeable on older devices with only 500ish MHz and 192MB of RAM, like the original G1/Dream/Sapphire and the likes. Those guys needed the extra time to launch an app and load the UI. Now with 1Gig, dedicated GPU and dualcore CPUs we are talking milliseconds. It really doesnt matter anymore...
A shame not all functions of Spareparts are supported though...

Sooo I've been running ics roms for a few months now and I'm just finding out about the force gpu rendering option in the developer settings. And its pretty awesome, it forces hardware acceleration on apps that don't natively support it right? Are there any downsides to using this? I've noticed issues with root explorer where it basically breaks the app.

Then i install Nova launcher, turn transition to the fastest. Wow, now my phone has over 300 mb free ram after boot up and is fast. And I mean real fast. For those who need speed. Go with Nova, and you retain most of the touchwiz features, like smart stay.

OK guys after spending two days with the new Samsung official software I was wondering if anyone else thinks that its a RAM hog. I have to keep killing the apps in the task manager otherwise I see lag while opening apps and things. Anyone else think this? Or could this possibly be because I quickly loaded about 40 apps onto the device? Any thoughts? Personally I hope Samsung will just improve and mature the software and it will get smoother. I heard that Android loads apps in RAM for faster use unlike Windows. So if you close them, it loads them again, and that causes more bettery use. So why don't you try the phone without closing apps and compare which works better. Some poorly written apps cause lag and consume alot of system resourses. They should be closed and better be uninstalled.

Get OMEGA 27. It is very snappy. Make sure you do a complete wipe meaning formatting system and reinstalling all your apps.
It is very snappy. Do a custom install and choose to install or not install V6 SUper Charger which always leaves 200 mb of free ram. Your phone won't multitask as well but it will keep everything fluid.
Although I optioned not to install V6, and everything has been perfectly fine.
YOu can always install or uninstall mods thanks to OMEGA FILES that comes with the phone. Highly recommended.

Why are you worried? I stuck with Omega 13 for months. You should only force an update if you were:
1. Trying a test rom and then official came out.
2. Or if it has problems and a X.1 version came out.
Omega only updates every time a leak rom appears but that doesn't mean you have to update.

I haven't checked quadrant but the point of Jelly Bean is that it implements a better use of a GUI than ICS. So quadrant isn't going to take those kind of things into account.

Please unlearn those misconceptions about Android RAM usage.
Unused RAM is wasted RAM.
Android, like Mac OS and Ubuntu, wants to use all the RAM it can, because that's how it was designed to work. There are settings (in Android we call them "minfree" settings) to tell the system how much RAM to leave free and available, but the rest is designed to fill up as fast as possible and stay that way.
You're probably thinking "What's it filling up with?" That's a great question. After the system, graphics, radios, and any other tweaks to RAM are done loading, the rest is there to load apps into memory, right up to the point where the OS says to stop. Load the app as it's being used, and keep it there for the next time until it needs flushed to free space for something else. The more you use the system, the better it gets at keeping the right things loaded and ready to go. Think about how you use your phone -- you might have 100 apps installed, but there are a few you always are opening and using. Eventually, most of those apps will be stored in your RAM, simply because you're always opening them and loading them into the RAM if they weren't already there -- and "erasing" other apps that were there first. Loading an app from your storage takes longer, is harder on the battery, and overall worse than loading it from it's cached position in RAM.

OK... within a specific context we are both correct.
So let me make my context more clear.
Unused ram is wasted RAM... if that is the wording most accurate.
If the RAM of your device has most of your favorite apps in background running or cached... its better for the system... rather than constantly loading it fresh from NAND and pulling last computed data from cache.
Lag can kick in when an app that is currently running (such as top line games) needs more space and it has to wait on the os memory manager to clear out background apps that haven't been used for a while... ugghh
Recently for early GS4 ROMS with the camera crash issue, when RAM falls below 200-Megs... the memory manager is too slow to free up enough "used" RAM for the Camera app causing a very slow and laggy camera or worse reboot of the device.
One work around is to use developer mode and limit the number of processes to 4... thus a minimum amount of "free and unused" ram was assured and the camera would not load slowly or reboot the device when loading,
It seems like this whole unused ram issue will always be with android until we get phones with 4Gigs of RAM... yeah righ;pt
