I recently upgraded to jellybean on my galaxy tab gt-p1000. And now i cant get a connection between the pc and the tab. I have read that this could be fixed by switching from modem to pda mode in a hidden menu, so i tried punching (literally) in *#7284# **7284 and **87284 but nothing happens. Windows just tells me that it cant find drivers for "7 CDCs".
Can anyone help? This is really starting to annoy me severely.

After half an hour trying I have just found a working solution how to connect your SGS in Kies. Here is the deal:
Start Kies, put phone's USB settings in Kies mode. Connect your phone to the PC. Wait until MTP App show "Connected". Go to your PC's Device manager, find Portable Devices and select Disable on GT-I9000. Do not wait for the disabling process to be completed, just disconnect the USB cable. Now connect the USB cable again, wait the MTP App on the phone to show you the message "Connected" and choose Enable on GT-I9000 in Device Manager. After a few seconds your phone should be ready in Kies
I tried this both on x86 and x64 Windows 7 and it works for me.
I hope this will help! And I hope there isn't another thread with this solution. If there is - I'm sorry
i cant wait to get home and try this... another 10h to go
but if this helps ur a geniues

Will put this in the FAQ if we have some confirmations for its effectiveness
when i first bought my phone it worked with kies, but after flashing it to a different firmware there was nothing i could do to get it to connect. i had deleted drivers, re-installed, etc etc but nothing worked. what ended up working was putting the phone in download mode, plugging in the usb to both phone and pc, then putting the phone into recovery mode, and as soon as the recovery menu popped up my device was recognized and the correct drivers were reinstalled and all was fine again

If you still have this problem, please try my method and tell me if it works
I had issues and I also tried this method. But it didn't help
Last thing I tried was to format the internal SD. That did the trick for me....
The biggest problem with getting the phone to connect to Kies is two fold:
1) MTP application will ONLY launch from the home screen (touchwiz screen). NOT from any app. drawer / launcher screen
2) If USB mode on the phone is set to Ask on Connection, MTP won't launch due to the USB app. being open (see 1) above)
If you set USB to Kies mode and then ensure you are on the home screen of the phone with nothing else running, Kies WILL connect
Also remember the 16+ size extension bug.
So a full wipe on ur I internal sd card is a good solution just make sure u back it up tour hdd
I also did a "Driver recovery" from Kies and it worked after that. Although MTP driver failed to install for me in this case.
Make sure to update to the latest version of Kies ( Now 1.5.1.0074.45 ) as this version seems far more reliable when connecting the phone
I recently discovered that the culprit of Kies continuously trying to connect to phone was caused by wrong MTP driver selected.
Under WinXP
After phone connected in Kies Mode..Go to Device Manager/Portable device..
If you see a device labeled as "MTP xxx or Portable device.." ,wrong MTP driver or older driver has been used..For my case, a Microsoft 2004 MTP driver was selected.
To fix it.
1) Do a manual driver update..for my case ,i let the driver wizard to search automatically..this round, another newer Microsoft driver was found..in fact 2 of them.. after installing the drivers(Microsoft 2006 MTP driver,2 are listed..). .Now Device Manager/Portable device listed "GT-i9000" ,Kies immediately found my phone.
Driver name that worked are "wpdusb.sys" and "wudfrd.sys" found under \windows\System32\drivers\..

You must not understand English. The entire reason I posted a comment was to share how I overcame this issue, so that would mean I no longer have this issue
Probable Fix for Kies
Friends,
I have also faced the same problem (while connecting my SGS via Kies MTP was crashing). It used to work earlier so I started to remove Applications and data in the reverse order of Installation. After I removed "Dolphin Browser HD" and all saved bookmarks it started working.
This may be a probable solution if you also have Installed Dolphin Browser.

India.
2 different issues.
MTP crashing on phone is independent from Kies on PC cant detect phone.
i couldnt use kies either but i wasnt worried as i hardly have free time now..
this was a simple fix and now it workes perfectly for me.
sorry about the late replay.
thanks
I'm glad that it works for you

You might be interested in my little APK (SGS Toolbox). I first created it to have it read the product code from the nv_data file to allow you to check whether it has been modified after a firmware update. But now I added some extra options, of which one is the option to check whether there are new firmware updates available in KIES by issuing the same request KIES does when checking for new firmware. This way you don't have to connect your phone to your computer all the time to check for new updates in KIES. Note: It sends JM1 as the current firmware version to find the latest. I might send the actual phone's firmware version once I figured out how to find it. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778244
Thanks, I'll give it a try
Deleted. Wrong thread.
Anyone familiar with an error trying to connect to Kies that says "cannot start the service on the device, please disconnect then reconnect"?
The tab doesnt go into "Kies mode".
Possibly something to do with the kernal?
uncheck USB debugging!

This is probably it right here ^ but also, K Rich, let us know what ROM and Kernel you're using. Thanks!
well, its not USB debugging. possibly starburst rom or pershoot kernal as the issue?
I had same problem.
The quick solution is factory reset.
Or you have to find a file with strange(illegal) name.
I suppose kies scan the files on tab during connection and because the illegal name found the connection process fail.
Happens everytime
It happens to me everytime. Easy way to check if Kies is broken is to try and enable it in settings "Wireless and networking". If you select Kies via Wifi and a dialog does not pop up then the Kies service is broken. Only way to fix it then for me is a factory reset which is a pain since I have to reinstall everything then.
Does anybody know of an easier fix. I am on a p7500 32Gb 3G and Wi-fi. Also as a side note: this kernel also does not seem to work with Plex streaming. No fix unless I root I think. This is the south african vodacom/fone galaxy 10.1
Regards
That same error message just started happening to me too. My SGS i9000m used to connect to Kies fine, but I just accepted a new Kies update and let it install, and now in Kies ver 2.0.2.11071_128 it gives me that error message.
Same thing just happened to my girlfriend, who has the identical phone to me. Once she accepted the recent Kies update, it doesn't see her phone.
But, Windows 7 (64-bit, for both of us) does see the phone.
And, the Kies Air app does work for me!
My phone is "lightly rooted" with Super One Click root. (As in, I haven't used Odin to put new ROM's on it, and I haven't messed with the phone much.)
Is there a way for me to get Android 2.3 onto it, through Kies or Kies Air?
Thanks guys. Sorry, I'm a noob.
hope it can help
I had the same problem with galaxy 2 and tab 8.9 (gt-p7300)
With galaxy 2 solved by shut down the phone (press power for 10 sec) with kies on and usb connected to comp.
With tab 8.9 the only way that worked for me is a factory reset, the same method of galaxy 2 was not working.
I hope it can help
reboot+usb connected -> fixed Kies

Thanks dude, the reboot of my galaxy s2 with usb connected made Kies detect my phone again.
I owe you a beer, maybe two.
Cheers,
Stefan.
I noticed that disabling pattern protection, allows Kies to recognize the tablet.
EDIT: not always, sorry
Even though this is an old thread, I would like to confirm that rebooting SGS 2 with USB connected, caused Kies to recognize my phone. Another method that works with limited success is changing the USB port on the PC to which the phone is connected.
Thanks.
....in device manager the diag drivers and the port show up fine. I can connect with Odin in recovery and connect through ADB. I have another Tab (same model) and connects fine. Kies is installed and activated modem in diag screen and toggled. I uninstalled the drivers, wiped it back to factory and reinstalled the drivers and tried to connect again, but no luck. I can also read the sd card as well. Any ideas?

....in other posts similar (which have no conclusions) it appears net.cdma.configurable.mode is set to "-1" and needs to be set to "1". Anyone know how this can be done?
a little more history into this issue; it happened after an meid repair and after I rebooted tab, were it once connected....it never did again. Anyone? Any clues or have i figured out a way to permanently turn this tab into a wifi only model?

"an error has occured while updating the deivce software..." screen and smart switch isnt recognizing my tablet either.
i dont know what else to do anymore and i really wanna fix it cause i just bought it a few days ago. im also using the original
in the box cable if anyone is wondering. so far i have tried everything on which i was able to find a thread about. and i cant
find/see another way to fix it please someone help!
I had been through few error messages including the one you mentioned and so far have no problem re-flashing through ODIN.
The only thing I could think of is your computer USB software or hardware problem. It also might be the USB cable or the USB port compatibility issue where on certain devices, there's problem with USB v2.0, v3.0, v3.1. I'm using a mid-end PC for all my mobile 'operations' as there's a lot of issues with my high end computer.
