I had used my 8GB microSD card to get the process going to install CM on my nook. But now that I want to use this card for something else, nothing I can do in Windows will reformat the card to completely free up the 8GB. Can anyone make sense of this for me?

You need to use a Windows program called SDFormatter. It is free on the web. It has an option to automatically adjust the size for you. Plus it makes it in the right format where the nook can easily read it.

Did that. Worked perfectly.

Yesterday my SD card decided to "damage" itself. So the phone prompted me to format it. So I did. It will write from the phone for beautiful widgets and the like but when I try and load up some wallpapers from my computer it "damages" itself again when ejecting. Im assuming I just need a new mem card and it has nothing to do with the ROM I am running (Fresh2.0d) Also I am not running apps2sd.
Sounds like a bad card to me. Hopefully it was not a 16gb class 6 Micro SD card, those suckers are expensive!
It wasn't thank god. Just a class 2 8 gig.

put your card in your phone and go into recovery mode
1) create ext on the sd card
2) format from recovery mode
then it should fix the problem, this happend to me and what I just wrote fixed it for me. Windows would not even recognize it.
I would imagine this is a fairly common question, but I can't seem any threads about it, and the forum search isn't working for me.
I have Liberated Froyo on my Aria.
It currently has the 2gb SD card from AT&T, and I want to swap it with a 16gb I have.
There are some apps installed on the SD card.
I was wondering if anyone knew what I have to do to switch the cards while still keeping all of my apps/settings/files intact.
Thanks.

Copy the of old sd card to your computer. Then format your new sd card and paste the contents of your old card to your new one.
I would imagine you should move move your apps back to the phone, but I'm not sure if that's necessary.
But those steps will ensure you don't lose anything.

Alright thanks.
I had seen something about having to do different partitions with different file systems if there were apps installed on the SD card.
The current card is formatted in FAT, so just use that?

After using my phone for sometime, the SD card becomes read only.. I can't modify anything on the card. Apps like Zedge don't start because it says SD not detected. The camera clicks pictures but nothing gets saved. However i can watch videos and play songs but cant write anything on the card. Remounting the SD solves the problem temporarily.
Running stock GB rom, rooted. Does anyone else have this problem? How do i fix it?

I faced a similar problem with my defy
Try to install MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition (google it, its free)
use external card reader to mount sd card and select the memory card
select wipe the select the last choice (phases) the select apply, it will take more than 8 hours to finish
then insert to your mobile
also it is better to install CM7.1
I made that it and it worked for me
In custom ROMS this has never happened to me.. when i reverted back to stock i found this issue
8 hours? really?
Me too facing the same problem!!!

I think the phone will do whatever is needed. I plugged in my new Sandisk 64GB card into the phone and it recognized it immediately, and mounted it a second or so later. Working great.

i formatted mine before i ever plugged it in.had issues with them not reading in the past so i just do it now to keep from running into problems
thanks guys. can I format it directly on the phone?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
you can as long as the phone reads it if it does not don't worry should work fine once you format via computer..... I have a 64 GB micro in my phone and no issues but formated it on my computer good luck!
There are some kernels that won't recognize the exFAT format that most 64GB cards come with. ExFAT is proprietary from Microsoft. Stock kernels work. I kept having trouble, so I formatted my card to FAT32 on my computer. The only real limitation is FAT32 only allows files up to 4GB.

What should I format it to... The phone recognizes it and then promptly says remove SD card

Flash a different kernel such as kt's latest or put in your computer and reformat as fat32. I had this same problem and either of these methods will fix.

Are you on the stock ROM or custom ROM? (specifically the kernel)
If you are on the stock ROM, try to insert it into the phone, and if it says "remove sd card", ignore that and instead, mount it (settings, more, storage, scroll to the bottom - mount sd card). It should work after that.
If you are using a different kernel, you will need to find out if it supports exFAT. If not, you may only be able to use as FAT32
Is anyone having problem with there sd card I get a error saying it a blank sd card but when I put it back n my note 2 everything still on it

MicroSD "Blank" - Galaxy Note 3
I am having the same issue, phone refuses to see my SD card. Has anyone figured out a work around for this, or is it most likely a hardware issue? Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900V), non rooted.
Have tried multiple microSD's (SanDisk 32GB HC C4, Sandisk 32GB HC U1) that both read correctly on PC. Have tried reformatting with through Windows --> my computer --> format and with SDA SD formatter software (full format, not quick). Phone still will not recognize it.
Also tried connecting phone via USB with SD card inserted, it doesn't show up anywhere in the directory to try formatting it there (image attached). I do get the option to format what I am assuming is the entire phone, this seems like a poor decision.
I have dug around the forum, the majority of the fix's point towards reformatting via PC, does not seem to solve the issue for me. Any advice very much appreciated!! Really hoping it isn't going to require a new phone.
Thanks!
You could do a factory reset and see if that helps. If not, you might have a bad SD card slot.

Bad SD card slot
Yep it was a bad SD card slot. Had Amazon send a replacement, read the card right away.
The problem was the phone it was a brand new phone I went to Verizon in they replace it with a new at the store
