Hey guys,
So I've recently come across the JMC rom like most of you out there.
I know there are a lot of users out there new to the flashing scene and more importantly they are unsure of where to begin despite all the guides out there.
I did however also want to give a quick overview.Of what I've seen so far in in JMC having started on stock Bell firmware and then going to JPK5, then JM6, JMA, and then recently moving on to JMC. Currently I'm using Roto-JMC on a JMA Base,
For most new people, or people afraid or unsure of whether to flash here is a really quick breakdown of what I've seen changed, improved so far since JM6, JMA:
Pros:
-Fastest ROM yet
-Smoother browser, smooth enough infact for me to delete Miren after doing extensive comparisons in performance.
-Smoother drop down bar (has its quirks)
-Great performance in TWUi
-Email app appears to be working flawlessly now
-No more issues with Screen timeout
-No more jagged browsing experience like in Bell Stock firmware
-Gallery app is silky silky smooth even when browsing 2.5 gb of pictures.
-Browser multi-touch, two finger zoom has improved vastly
-Full Bluetooth HID support (compared to Stock Bell Firmware) which means full keyboard/mouse support!
Cons:
-Performance on drop down depends on running tasks (but its 100%+ better than in Stock Bell Firmware)
-Had issues with update, so had to restore defaults which was for the better anyways
-No updated Market App (quick fix)
-Swype still not scaling properly (Lol.. pm me for how to fix that if you must)
-Still no Pinch to zoom in Dolphin HD
Untested/Unknown:
-Batterylife affected?
-DPI issues as others have reported
-Performance improvement with OLFC (for tab) untested yet
Comments:
Having HEAVILY used Stock Bell and JMA, since I use my tab at work.. I will say, the browser performance in this build truly blew my mind. It was so much better than stock. Having compared 2 tabs, one Bell Stock and JMC I am absolutely stunned at the difference when browsing sites like Engadget or Gizmodo. The multi-touch to zoom support is so much better in this build, it feels so smooth and more reactive than before. Its not perfect, not yet... But soon.
Samsung devs are really getting there. Really noticeable performance with UI and drop down, I have a feeling in a few more builds it will be almost perfect.
In the end, this all made me happy because I love my tab even more now! Hope this helps anyone out there wondering on whether or not to flash.
As for JMC vs JMD.. No real feedback from the community yet on JMD so I'll give JMD a run down after a few days of testing in order to make sure I get a good amount of experience.
Thanks for your insight! Happy Holidays!

Great review! Also, does this firmware fix the multi-touch issues with the dolphin hd browser that plagued earlier European firmwares?

Updated above with added information.
Thanks!
great initiative. Fully agree with your pros and cons. Still think that the browser could be faster though.
Also still waiting on a 2.2.1 update (the jump from 2.2 to 2.2.1 made a great difference for the Galaxy S series)

nice review TY

Hi, can someone please tell me wether JMC includes norwegian swype input or not?
Merry christmas to all btw!
Same for me, i got a stock update from kies to jj7, dolphin works fine.
The fixed browser slowdown on busy sites is appealing, but im waiting for a ROM with no cons before i bother to upgrade.

I do believe the browser could be faster but there is honestly no smoother alternative at the moment. The browser in JMC is faster than both miren and dolphin by a bit at this point but not faster or smoother than opera but we all know how weird opera rendering really is.
Remember though these are all Dev builds at the moment so we should see some improvement in the next few builds.
As for the avatar hahaha its actually an ipad he's holding like that so its editted to show him holding what the ipad really is!

Hello!
I'm currently not using swype from JMC if not I'd test this and give you feedback immediatley. I'm currently using swype from a different build since it has the landscape mode fixed and this version only supports EFIGSD languages plus the Asian laungauges.
Maybe someone else who is using stock JMC can give you some feedback.
Cheers

No such thing as no cons. Despite any cons JMC may have the performance increase is astounding when compared to stock.

Agreed. Jmc is so much better to pass because of dolphine pinch zoom issue for me. There are alternatives I can use for browsers, but not when it comes to perf and stability.
an update from me. i was flashed to jm6 no screen timeout issue then flash to roto-jmc no timeout issue at the begging but today it started suddenly. i can fix it by changing timeout duration for several times after device restarts but issue is still there.

no dont have spareparts and never had. this is a weird situation for me, as i said jm6 i dont have after upgrade to roto-jmc i dont have the issue but after 3 days of roto-jmc usage it started suddenly while i was looking for a good ebook reader and trying the ones in the market. i think the issue is there in the jmc rom too and waiting for something to trigger it.

Only issues I've noticed coming from KH3 are:
1. The default font sucks (and there's only two other slightly less sucky choices)
Can we get the fonts from KH3 anywhere?
2. The lock screen clock has a leading "0" even when not needed, so the clock in the lockscreen reads, for example: 04:25PM. Of course, I'm not on 24 hour preferences in the display, or this would read differently (I tried it.)
Not thrilled about that at all. Anyone else see that?
3. The dialer says "Favourites" which isn't a US English spelling, despite the fact that this is how I use my phone primarily, and how it is set now in Language preferences.
Did you change your language to United States English?

Did you notice any slight stutter while passing through pages on the main screen? This seems only exist when the background is picture wallpaper, not noticable on live wallpaper. No stutter feeling in application menu page changing. I used kf3 before this and there were not any stutter.

The fonts are in /system/fonts folder. I am on KH4 and not noticed any difference.
I suppose you could copy the KH3 fonts into the KH4 folder and reboot your phone.
I have not tried this as I am using the Choco cooky font.
As an alternative, you can do a google search for fonts and install the ones you like. I tried this and installed some interesting fonts but got tired of them after awhile.
As far as cycling through the screens, I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary. I am using Launcherpro Plus.
What about the leading 0 in the lockscreen clock?
How can I get rid of that? I hate it. I flashed back to KH3 and cleared everything via CWM, yet it persisted. I went back to KH4 and did the same thing, still there.
For example, I'm on 12 hour time US English settings and my lockscreen clock will read: 09:45 PM
The dialer still says "Favourites" instead of "Favorites."
Anyone?
(I'd also love it if someone could post the KH3 fonts)

Just a thought is their a American English language pack .
jje
I have noticed some weird effects on my screen since upgrading to KH4 where fonts arent completely black, but lets say in the sentence "The cat ate the bird" two of the words would be slightly grey, and this occurs throughout black text on white backgrounds.
Also I have noticed the left side of the screen in some apps, seems to be darker than the right.. so i'm going back to UK stock KE7 to see whether it still does that.
Apart from those, it seems blazing fast with no bugs from what I can see.

The thing is that the leading "0" in the lockscreen clock is wrong in ANY language.
For example, if you change 2:00 PM to 24 hour time, it should read 14:00
In this ROM, using 12 hour time, the lockscreen clock reads 02:00PM
That's the problem, and I'm not sure how to solve it, but I don't think the language is the issue, because the ROM has US English as an option... and I'm using it.
Is there anything positive about KH4 compared to KH3 which can be noticed?
There is no us firmware released yet, so that's why "favorites" is "favourites" and the issue with the clock its not an issue at all, I'm on kh3 and its the same.

Thanks for that. I'm really surprised if that's the case, because I was almost positive that the lockscreen clock wasn't like that for me when I first flashed KH3. I was pretty sure it only started for me after KH4, but I could be wrong.

I think you shouldn´t suggest to flash ANY LP1-6 kernel anymore. Today, everybody should know the danger of them...

Ultrafine! The only one thing missing is the possibility to change the DPI!!
Works well enough but Samsung seem to have tried to hide the simple elegance of stock ICS in some ways. Thinking of going back to CM9. Not much of a pen user anyway ,

Loving the ICS release except for one thing.....
I toggle silent/vibrate on and off quite a lot. When I do this, using the long-press power-button menu, some wonderful person has decided that I am so clueless, I need a confirmation dialogue box.
"Warning! Silent mode will be enabled OK/Cancel"
Gasp! Really!?!?! I had no idea that would happen when I purposely held down the power button and then with delicate intent selected the desired silent-mode function.
Just. Wow. It's supposed to be a shortcut, and Samsung just ruined it. Of course, I flashed completely stock without root, so I'm probably stuck with this until somebody figures out how to root this stock ICS release. (Maybe they have already, I'll do a search).
It's a small complaint to most people, but I toggle silent on and off many times a day. This is a huge annoyance. I'll see if there are any lockscreen toggles I can get - actually, EVERY single android release or skin should have silent/vibrate toggle on the lock screen, as it was in the earlier android releases. Motorola seems to be the only one who realises this. Sheesh....
Generally good, am upset by the lack of 160 dpi/tablet conform, just be aware if you're going for lower dpi's you'll face fc's

Ok so for those that have been able to upgrade to ICS (P6800 owners) what are your toughts?
Now this is what i am looking for:
A) What you like
B) Don't like
C) What would you like to have seen included but wasn't (if anything)
And since having the update what are you looking forward to doing that you couldn't or wouldn't with HC.
Please don't post any issues you have after updating, that is not what this post is intended for.

Well i don't think that i don't like anything but i haven't really found something that is faulty. It is definitely faster as i immediately noticed that it took less ram, than honey comb, to run. Feels pretty fast with go launcher HD to me and i love it completely. Although i thought that there would be camera improvements as tab 2 7.0 has the same 3 mega pixel camera but does 1080p recording. So i thought that it might be done with tab 7.7 as well with an ics upgrade.

Well I love it to and made it up with Samsung:
- first with ICS that tablet really rocks it already did but now it's almost perfect
- smoother faster it seems especially the OOM killer seems more smart, and less memory used it seems
- no more problem with Itap rdp right click with bt mouse
- something I never mentioned. : I developed or try to develop a clone of pronto remote and debug using adb wireless
With HC I could not connect via adb on the computer using ethernet to adb wireless wifi due to packet loss... So had to disable ethernet and enable wifi. With ics no longer this issue...
- I used to have frequent sleep of death for the moment none
- I listen radio everyday through tunein somehow at around 1pm HC always rebooted by itself. Never bothered to figure out why... Now this no longer happen...
- no wifi issue ( some ICS user reported problems). I never had neither with HC except sleep of death or reboot that might be related to wifi?. I use Friztbox 7340 AP.
- my 100+ aps. Seems to all works (of course did not test deeply since yesterday) except gmd gesture control to hide the control bar
-once in a while but quite frequently using HC my EXCHANGE account would vanish...had to re-create every time... waiting to see on this one...Could be my remote application leaking....
So all in all very very happy with this tab and Samsung... Patience was what I missed
- I did wipe and did not have any problem if we refer to brick bug... But you never know...
What I like less
- dialog box theme gray without frame around
- it seems Samy addressed bur-in doing the bar black now....
I preferred it before and I don't have noticeable burn-in ( since march and extensive uses) except using color filter and brightness turned all down then I see slight yellow discoloration... Nothing to complain for me as the TAB HW screen etc are just so great IMO and outweight for me this small detail.
Seriously the TAB rocks for me...
Can you imagine 7.7 with quad core and dream about a 1080p SAMOLED display in a 7'7 TAB for me the perfect size!
I guess I continue buying Samsung.... Despite some of my previous comments... Waiting for the ICS on 8.9 now for my girl friend
Thanks and cheers
A now happy again Samsun tab 7.7 user

My first impression
i installed the firmware through odin. it was not available on kies. so if i have to claim warranty ( god forbid ) then i guess i have to flash my country's HC firmware back
what i liked is that it is noticibly faster than HC. Apps load faster. lag is less. starting button lag is less. there have been no FC's and almost all of my games are compatible.
what i dislike or rather disappointed is that it does not look or feel much different than HC. no added functionality except Face unlock. what i would have liked is some features of S3.
i am running this for almost 24 hrs now. battery usage is same as HC.
I like that this device is actually usable now. I think I'm going to use it as my main tablet now. I didn't use it with HC because it was just so slow compared to my gt8.9 (running ICS rom).
My first impression: TouchWiz seems much smoother, Go Launcher HD feels the same. Under heavy usage of widgets TouchWiz is still great but Go Launcher HD not. I do love some Go Launcher features so I played around a lot and also tested the new 1.11 beta. But is still less responsive.
It's like a faulty motherboard replaced by a newer and faster one.
Seriously, like a new device, snappy, responsive, seems less battery hungry.
There is one 'custom rom" available, where EDaN has deodexed and removed some bloatware. I took that rom and took out everything social, photo and video editor, and some other minor crap.
Having 60 apps installed and tested it's like Christmas.
- dislike
had to discover I must install busybox to get Titanium working
had to install supersu myself, no biggy
no software based CWM, havent found compatible one, but one thats reboots to recovery anyway.
No powermenu at powerbutton
ugly blueish tint around quickmenu (with shortcuts for bt.wifi etc)
This all will be fixed when chefs get source or get impatient and offer CWM zips
Chainfire3d night mode seems to be not working...
Sent from my GT-P6800 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
my only gripe so far is that if you increase the font size to Large, some apps (mostly system apps) seem to have the font go to 'super large' e.g. google play, settings menu, whilst some apps its perfect.
Conversely, going down to medium, most apps are back to Honeycomb tiny font problem, whilst the system apps are fine
Seems like Sammy tweaked the touchwiz stock UI to display fine on medium size, without thinking that 'hey most apps the user will be using needs it set to large hmmmm'. Hoping AOSP ROMs will get around this issue
The tab is more responsive overall. Feels like a new device. But still not loving touchwiz--wish this is a pure Google device. Installing Nova Launcher partially fixes that. Only app not working out well so far is Battery Monitor Widget Pro--the mA usage keeps showing "0". Just about everything else survived the upgrade with no issues.
Add: mA information in Battery monitor widget works is set to "estimation" rather than automatic. So that problem is solved...
I never used tw always adw launcher ex on this device, everything is smoother with ics now we just need some custom roms and kernels so it can catch up to my galaxy note and asus prime

I'm truly loving this tab with ICS. One huge problem is with my WiFi. I experienced once again as it just disconnected and never connected again until I shut it down completely and turned it back on. Logged onto another AP. I hate this problem as I thought I had fixed it. It seems like the WiFi module is overheated and shutdown or something....*SIGH*

It's good stuff!
First: Hotmail seems to be staying put. Had big bothers with this as account would dissapear from tab. Seems to be fixed now, but need more time.
Second: SD Card behaving. Sweet.
Third: No waiting around for unlock screen to pop up when power button pressed. WTF was that anyway?
Fourth: Swype behaving itself. Kept on getting beeps before, and i would have to change to Samkey and back to swype. One crash so far in google translate.
Fifth: Browser no longer reloading all the time to homepage. seems more stable.
Sixth: Youtube actually responds when choosing a vid. If you hit back before and chose another, it was no longer responsive.
Seventh: AR much more responsive. 1sec response time. instead of 3-4. Overall response time much boosted. Has crossed the line from WTF? to hey... Sweet!
0'ed: Sammy did our super bloody expensive tab first. THANK YOU!
PS: flashed XL4 (United Arab Emirates) with Austrian version.(ODIN 1.85) Not a problem. Did Full Reset before flashing though. All went smooth. Im a very happy camper! Hope i could help.
Hi,
I think and hope I speak for many of the note 10.1 2014 tablet users when I desperately ask for a dark theme for out tablets.
I have managed to make most of the tablet dark thanks to hyperdrive rom but I cannot for the love of mankind make the settings background dark.
I hate bright white background light as the settings have and would like to see themers make this compatible for all roms made for note 10.1 2014.
I also see many themes out but they are all based on white where the themers just change the fonts and add other icons post it and called it theming o.0 but I just call it minor changes.
Please I know there are a few themers with good skill sets that could give us some awesome themes.
Just look at bobcats roms for note 2 and note 3 I mean he's got very good theming skills and it's just a shame he don't have this tablet ; (
Am I the only one felling this way or are there more like me ?
Hmm seams like i am the only one.
I have noticed that these threads are dead lately. Seems like people have either got rid of their Note 10.1 tablets or just no longer visit XDA.
Yes very dead ; (
I just wished we had better development for this great device but sadly majority of people are morans and go for Apple tablets or at least amongst the people I know.

Tbh at times I feel like a moron owning this Tablet HAHA, the three things Apple owners always say are the Customer Service, Apple Software updates are great (minus the few hiccups of iOS releases but that stuff happens with all new releases) and generally speedy UI with no bloat.
It's like some people on here having battery problems would have to probably be without their tablet for 2 weeks if they sent it to Samsung to get fixed and I waited about 9 Months for the official KitKat release.
I do love this Tablet but Samsung really do an aweful job of looking after their customers. This doesnt mean I'm going to be buying Apple product anytime soon - I aint an idiot haha (oh wait did I just contradict myself
P.s sorry to go off topic :/

I would love to see some themers make a dark ui for this tablet, maybe pm some themers and see if anyone could do us a solid, maybe offer some donations?
Off topic, I don't unstand why so many people complain A) about battery life, i see great life on mine, waaaaay better than my touchpad ever got. Usually 1 week between charges. And B) after switching to Xkat from hyperdrive, tablet performance and smoothness couldn't be better.

It seems like there isn't much anyone here at the minute, worth a shot PMing people.
I get great battery life too but these threads are littered with people losing 10% in a matter of minutes doing nothing that requires high power usage. Yeah like you say you are rooted and changed ROM, I ain't so I had to de-bloat by disabling about 50 things plus un-installing apps and also have switched off a lot of gimmicky things aswell ... but yeah couldn't be happier with the speed now tbh but its just annoying having to do this but its not just Samsung its all the Asian phone manufacteres.

So after reading your post i wanted to try to figure out if i can change the backround color for settings.I know a little something about theming.I understand how to decompile and recompile and how to change alot of other things.Im going to try to do it and will let you know if i succeed. Its going to be alot of reading and try to figure out what to change.I dont have much time but when i have free time im going to try to change.Im at work and have the framework decompiled on my computer. If you can help try to figure out what file to change that would be a big help.I found how to change the settings backround for a phone but it doesnt work on our tablet.I think i need to change holo light but not sure.Ill keep you posted if i figure out how to do.

I'm pretty sure it's in framework, not settings because iv'e done it before so your'e stepping in the right direction. I'm not a themer by the way, more of a modder. I tried taking a shortut by throwing some Tab S stuff into a VR Theme zip but it didn't work so I guess i'm gonna hvae to do it the proper way lol

Here is Settings Background Theme:
It should change the colour to the same one as the Tab S. This zip should work on any rom but if it doesn't then let me know :good:
The only reason I didn't test it is because of laziness and because i'm not that concerned with theming my tablet, I mostly theme things for my phone
As always, make sure you have a backup (framework-res)
here's the zip :good:
Settings_test.zip - 558.65 KB

Hyperdrive has a lot of tweaks so that could be conflicting with things. I'll make a full version now made for Hyperdrive rom :good:

@mikep2323 try this, it should definitely work now. Make sure you dont have any xopsed modules or mods that may conflict with things and be sure to wipe cache + dalvik as well:
Hyperdrive Mod:
Settngs V2.zip - 17.27 MB
Hyperdrive Mod Revert:
Revert_Settings.zip - 17.58 MB

I am heading home now from work, will try when i get home.I have alot of exposed apps that i use for changing stuff.Ill turn them all off. Thanks
Edit=So I flashed version 2 and tablet wouldn't boot. I cleared dalvik and cache.I tried 2x. I then flashed the revert one and it worked and reverted.Im going to make sure I had everything unchecked in exposed.I use wanam, gravity box and tweaks in hyperdrive to theme diffrent things. It seems to look a little diffrent now then before but the backround is still white. Is it white in the one you made or a diffrent color? The sliders look a little smaller then before also.
Edit 2=I still had something checked in exposed so after unchecking flashed version 2 wiped and rebooted but still nothing changed. This time it booted up.
Edit 3= So I put my backed up framework back on and there is a diffrence in some things then yours. The settings top bar is a diffrent color where as mine is grey. The slider buttons are smaller and some apps have a blue bar on top with your framework. Example root explorer has black top bar on mine and blue top bar on yours. The settings though is still white on right side and grey on left side. I think someone else needs to test cause I have so many diffrent things themed that maybe something is throwing off your test one.
Hm so close and yet so far ?

Yeah I got it to work with lighter colours, not dark ones. Dark ones need font colour to be changed which I'll have to look at later :good:
I tested with stock deodex NI1
