I ran Speedtest on my Nexus 4 over my local wifi network and saw something surprising. I am getting only about 6Mbps download speeds. I'm on a 40Mbps Internet connection. My Galaxy Nexus gets 30Mbps on the same wifi network using the same Speedtest server.
Maybe not coincidentally my T-Mobile HSPA+ speeds also seem to cap around 6Mbps usually.
I'm scratching my head, this can't be normal, right?

That photo was me running the Speedtest simultaneously. But I tested both phones multiple times individually as well with the same results.
Why does the speedtest app show fullscreen on the nexus, but on the nexus 4 it not?

I was skeptical about the issue being my router, it's a nice ASUS RT-N66U router. And I have an iPad 3, Kindle Fire HD, and Galaxy Nexus all getting 30 to 35Mbps results from speedtest tonight, while only the Nexus 4 seems to be struggling around 6Mbps.
But I logged into the router and looked around at wifi settings that might be affecting this.
The router is set to "N only" mode, because I have no 802.11g or lesser devices. I'm using both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and have issues with both. 2.4GHz is on channel 1, which is the least crowded in my neighborhood.
I looked at this setting called "Channel bandwidth". I have mine set to 40MHz for optimal performance. But it has a note that I should set this to 20Mhz if there are stability issues. I set the channel bandwidth down to 20Mhz and now I'm getting almost 35Mbps on my Nexus 4. I set it back to 40Mhz and now my Nexus 4 is back to 6Mbps. Back again to 20MHz, and back to 35Mbps. It's definitely the channel bandwidth.
Not sure why the Nexus 4 has such a problem with 40Mhz channel bandwidth when nothing else has an issue with it. However 20Mhz doesn't seem to be hurting my other devices performance. So issue solved.

Sometimes problems with channel width is caused by wmp or.similar setting try disabling that (the whatever power/resource/priority setting newer routers seem to have)

Do you stream videos at all? I am interested to know if it can hold a good connection while watching videos on YouTube for example and not buffer every 15 seconds.
That's one of my main concerns and want to be sure before buying two SGS3 as my wife and I both stream lots of videos on YouTube and netflix.

Video streaming working flawlessly. It runs the Super Video app (you know, the on with the pop up, movable video) silky smooth, too. Nothing to worry about

Casselberry, Fl sitting inside my apartment.
Ping, download and upload all much faster then my N1 and noticeably faster then many Galaxy Nexus was.

To respond to your question in the other thread, I had a Galaxy S Vibrant before, so it's notably faster being on the HSPA+ network. That said, the wifi definitely connected faster, not sure if it's noticeably faster or not, I'll have to use it some more.

I'm all the way on Edgewater Drive now at work. Don't really get great speeds here. I'll check for you when I get off work.
I use to get 7-8 download tops on my Galaxy Nexus. Upload is about the same. Ping is way better.

Great. Ive always been curious of other T-mobile users speeds in our area because ive flashed so MANY different roms, radios, rils, firmwares, i feel my sensation isnt pulling its full capability.

Well, my old phone is actually a Vibrant but I decided to test it against my girlfriends vibrant+ to see the difference in 4g speeds. My phone gets terrible ping for some reason, but the speed is much better than her phone(using the latest kj6 modem). This is north of San Antonio using a San Marcos server. The first speed test is from Wichita, KS
I don't know but I think I hit a freak spot because this area is always crazy fast

So I woke up this morning and been playing around on my lovely beauty and decided to actually use my 5Ghz band. This is the speed I pulled on my wifi using the 5Ghz band on my G S III. Anyone want to start a comparison? Great speeds. Generally, my optimum speeds should be ~30Mb, so not too shabby.

Your router would have to be able to produce a 5Ghz band. You can't just 'create' it, it has to be given off by your system.

No, you see, what you do is: Build a machine with a motor in it that oscillates at 2.4 Ghz, strap your router into it, and set it to vibrate asynchronously with the 2.4 Ghz band that your router is putting out.
Voila! Instant hertz double-age.

Mine does too, though I'ma use both, but to set it:
Settings > wifi > advanced button > wifi frequency band > select 2.4GHz only.
So question, this is WiFi, what the hell could you guys ever need 20-50mbs of internet speed for? XD I'm on 3mbs and im perfectly fine

I think I'm going to return my phone. I strongly believe that my radios are off. I still have my GS2 from Sprint and my wifi speeds are twice as fast than on my GS3. That coupled with almost no bars from voice and fluctuating data. I live in an apartment in Brooklyn, but it's a studio with 3 big windows. My Sprint gets full bars. What do you think? Just got my phone yesterday. My GS3 is on Tmo.

What ISP? Those graphs look like some kind of 'speed boost' style manipulation. What's the advertised speed? I used to get insane results when I was with Comcast elsewhere on speedtest/other things, but reality never worked out quite so well.
I have Comcast as my ISP, and I'm subscribed to the extreme 105 plan.

Hi. So I just got my Nexus 7 2013 version yesterday and I like it so far. But the things is, the Wi-Fi throughput speed I'm getting is much slower than my OG Nexus 7 (I usually get 10Mbps down, but on my new one it's down to 2-3Mbps). My router is the ASUS RT-AC66R with updated firmware, set to Wi-Fi N only. I tried resetting my N7 to the factory condition and still getting slower speed than my OG N7, disconnected all the wi-fi devices except it and I still get 2Mbps (I have a CIR from Comcast for 30mbps) Should I exchange this one for another one?

Doing a bandwidth test over your ISP will be bottlenecked by your ISP's connection. You really need to test by doing a local file transfer over your network.

Man, I wish I were getting that kind of speed. Anyway, my N7 2013 I'm connected to my 2.4Ghz network with the router set to auto channel, channel bandwidth set to 20&40 MHz whilst my N7 '13 has Wi-Fi optimization turned on and the channel set to Auto.

On my iPod Touch 5G I'm getting at least 10mbps 2.4Ghz network on speedtest while getting 27Mbps on 5Ghz network...

Lol I get 80-90 megabits/sec on wifi in my AT&T LG Optimus G, basically N4 with an sd card slot since I run N4 roms on it with slight modifications to the kernel and blobs.
Not having any issues on mine. This is on the 2.4 GHz freq in my house. Didn't try the 5 GHz.

I also tried turning off battery optimization and seemed to really help a lot I'm now getting 50 down
I don't know why but my Nexus 4 WiFi download speeds are horrible, I can get 5 to 6 or near 12 Mbps with luck.
I have 100 Mbps DL 10 Mbps UL (and I get 100% of it) Router is an Asus RT-N66U.
Phone connects at 150 Mbps to my 5 Ghz band and at 65Mbps on the 2.4 Ghz band.
I use the less crowed channels in my area (48 and 1) according to network monitors I'm alone in those freqs.
Connecting to the 2.4Ghz gives me
4 Mbps DL / 10.40 Mbps UL ( So funny ... )
Connecting to the 5 Ghz gives me
25.80 Mbps DL / 10.91 Mbps UL ( Makes more sense but 25% DL Speed only)
I remember when I first got the phone, and I even got some results saved, that I was getting 65+Mbps DL.
I'm using stock JWR66Y ROM and stock kernel.
I could use some help.
Has you mentioned above about 150MBps and 100MBps is just the link speed so nothing to do with the internet, just local.
The speeds really either depend on the router or the device itself, did this occur before the update?

As I said above my Internet speed is 100 Mbps on a gigabit Lan, not just link speeds. The link speed of the WiFi is indeed 150Mbps but with enough bandwidth it should output at least 65Mbps.
And yes this did occur in JWR66V as well, but with lower impact overall.

I used that, and there is no difference at all
The problem resides on the JRW66(X) Rom (4.3) since in 4.2.2 speeds go back up to 60+ Mbps, and after doing a factory wipe and trying with and without tweaked values,I could not go past 26 Mbps.
As I mentioned in another thread, I have the same problem. My wifi is almost unusable because it's so slow now. I noticed this after upgrading from stock JWR66V to JWR66Y using efrant's script (not blaming his script, just for info).
I assumed it was a V to Y thing because I hasn't noticed it before. It sounds like I should try going back to 66V to test.
Add also mentioned in another thread, it seems that disabling Wifi optimisation fixes the problem. Very odd.

To recover my full speed I have to go back all the way to 4.2.2, I don't know why but it's like that
Guess I will have to stick with this speeds until they fix it.
My speed problems are intermittent now, 3 speed tests after the device was sleeeping, 2 60+ Mbps results, and now back to 26Mbps max.
Try putting this... gDataInactivityTimeout=200 ...... in your WiFi INI file, before the END marker.
Also have you tried untucking WiFi optimisation in settings? don't forget to disconnect/reconnect before testing.

Can anyone tell me what are the top speeds that 6P can do it via Wifi (5Hz) ?!
I have a N5, and a few months ago, on a shopping mall, me and a friend (with a Iphone 5S) decided to test wifi speeds of our devices. They have really good wifi speeds. They have 5Hz networks and usually I get over 100 Mb/s download speeds.
On that day we tested over speednet
I got around 80 Mb/s from download and 20 Mb/s on the upload. My friend, he got almost a symmetric result, around 80 Mb/s on both download and upload results!!
We test this several times and with consistent results, specially on the upload for me, never got better than 20 Mb/s and my friend always got on his iphone equal results for download and upload speeds.
So what I'm asking, does the 6P has better results compared with my N5 ?! What values can we speak about?!
I have had well over 100Mb/s down and up on a capable network via my 6P.
Nexus 6p is CAT6 LTE which means its max theoretical speed is 300Mbps
Wifi is 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2x2 MIMO, dual-band device. It contains the Broadcom BCM4358 chip which enable speeds up to 433 and 867 Mbps respectively

Asus RT-AC68P. I had no interest in spending $400 for some crazy router.

Using my PC, I can get a good 400+Mbps, but wired is always faster. Then again, who needs 200+Mbps on a phone anyway? ??

I do! Lots of internal file transfers to and from my file server. I wish it would actually connect at 1300Mbps instead of just 866. I can only manage to pull from the file server at about 70MB/s vs 110 over a wire.
